‘Life Of Brian’, ‘Bugsy Malone’ unit stills photographer David Appleby dies aged 77

Celebrated UK film stills photographer David Appleby has died aged 77 at his home in Somerset.

London-born Appleby enjoyed a lifelong collaboration with filmmaker Alan Parker, with whom he first worked on Bugsy Malone, Parker’s first major feature film. They went on to work together on Midnight Express, Mississippi Burning, The Commitments, Evita and The Life Of David Gale.

Parker died in 2020.

Applebyalso shot stills for Ridley Scott’s debut featureThe Duellists, as well as 1492: Conquest Of Paradise, Kingdom Of Heaven and Robin Hood.

He was born in Wandsworth, London, in 1947, and developed an early passion for cinema and photography.

Oscars: 11 Contenders on Track for a Nomination From the First Half of 2019

With the Fourth of July holiday in the rearview mirror, it’s time to get back to work. That means it’s high time to take a look at Oscar contenders from the first half of the year.

This list is comprised of films that have already been released, plus some of the top titles from festivals — even if they haven’t hit theaters yet.

The breakdown, however, doesn’t include complete unknowns and still-in-the-works films like Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical “Cats” or Greta Gerwig’s take on “Little Women.”

There’s still a lot more to see before Oscar voting begins (preliminary voting kicks off on Dec. 6), but until then, here are 11 contenders who could be on track for a nomination.

Composer Carter Burwell’s Goodbye Christopher Robin Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD Drops on October 27
Sony Classical announces the release of Goodbye Christopher Robin (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with an original score by Academy Award®-nominated composer Carter Burwell.

The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 13 and on CD on October 27, 2017. The film will be released in the Us on October 13, 2017.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Woman in Gold) and will be released in Us theaters by Fox Searchlight Pictures on October 13, 2017.

Carter Burwell said about the score:

“One of the riskier decisions Simon Curtis and I made with the score was to withhold the main theme until the middle of the film, when A. A. Milne begins to write and his friend Ernest Shepard begins to illustrate “Winnie The Pooh”. We did this to make that moment especially noteworthy, to make it the turning point of the story.
