Exclusive: Oscar-nominated writer-producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have signed with Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment for management, Deadline has learned.
The news comes following word this morning that the pair have been tapped to script Shadow Tiger, a feature adaptation of the comic book from Sharad Devarajan.
No strangers to comic books, Fergus and Ostby rose to prominence after co-writing Children of Men and Iron Man back to back.
Released by Universal in 2006, Alfonso Cuarón’s dystopian sci-fi pic Children of Men adapted P.D. James’s 1992 novel of the same name. Set in a bleak future where two decades of global human infertility have pushed society to the brink of collapse, the film follows Theo Faron (Clive Owen), a disillusioned bureaucrat, as he is unexpectedly tasked with protecting a miraculously pregnant woman, Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey). Widely regarded as one of the best films of the 21st century, Children scored three Academy...

The prequel film we have all been waiting for is finally here and I am really happy to say that it is as brilliant and bombastic as the original film. Obviously, we are talking about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to George Miller‘s 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by Miller from a screenplay by Nico Lathouris and Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows the story of a young Furiosa as she is taken from Green Place of Many Mothers and tries to survive in the wasteland while trying to get back home but the war between great biker horde’s warlord Dementus and Immortan Joe makes it harder. Replacing Charlize Theron from Fury Road, Anya Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa in the prequel film and it also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, and Nathan Jones. So,...

Science fiction movies are known for having futuristic and sometimes impossible plots, but some films have scientific accuracy that makes them more realistic than they seem. As the name of the genre implies, science fiction films combine factually scientific evidence with fictionalized storylines. Movies like Armageddon feature likely circumstances, but aren't based on real scientific principles.
Luckily, there are plenty of instances in the genre where sci-fi films have gotten the science right. For decades now, movies and TV shows have warned of the dangers of technology through dystopian stories that depict robots ruling over humans. While they weren't always taken seriously, society has since seen computers take over jobs that have belonged to people. Newer films have explored how much further technology could go and how it could impact the human race. Some space movies also have been commended by scientists for their impressive accuracy. Here are a few...

Wattpad, a global multiplatform entertainment company known for its digital novels and data insights, is expanding into film development and will finance two new film projects, including one from “Children of Men” writer David Arata and another from Angela Lamanna, a co-producer on Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” the company announced Thursday.
Founded in 2006, Wattpad allows users to write, post and read short, text-based novels. Readers can engage with the content by commenting on the novel or “liking” specific paragraphs. This data is then used by the company to identify emerging trends within the platform — such as what type of content is being written about and engaged with the most. The company then uses this information to help studios create video content, with Sony Pictures Television, Hulu and more having all used the data. Currently, the company has 50 different TV and film projects in development with studios around the world.

International companies are scrambling for a piece of the action — including, perhaps surprisingly, producers in France, despite the country’s perceived snobbery about other languages.
Federation Entertainment, the 5-year-old firm behind Netflix’s first French show, “Marseille,” and Canal Plus spy show “The Bureau,” is the latest French player to step into the competitive U.S. market, with nearly a dozen English-language projects in the pipeline. Unlike outfits such as Gaumont or EuropaCorp, Federation is one of the few sizable, fully independent TV outfits left in France, and not only has opened an office in L.A. but is also developing projects with Paramount TV and other American companies.
Even so, breaking into the U.S.

Samuel L Jackson will fight a global gravity catastrophe in the upcoming sci-fi film, Inversion.
Since Samuel L Jackson happens to be one of the most omnipresent actors in the film industry, news that he’s nabbed a starring role in an upcoming sci-fi epic is hardly a stop the pressevent. Nevertheless, Jackson’s latest gig could uniquely see him join Ragnar Lothbrok and a Chinese scientist to fix the gravitational pull of the Earth! We fancy his chances, in truth.
According to Variety, Jackson will join the project, by the name of Inversion. In the film, Jackson will play a senior Homeland Security investigator who finds himself in the thick of a potentially perilous situation for anyone on the planet who enjoys constant gravity. The calamity is being combatted by Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Warcraft), who plays a street-smart American con man who in turn finds himself...

Currently the second biggest movie market on the planet, China’s stake in the global film industry continues to grow and grow with each passing year and in 2017, we’ll be welcoming the country’s most expensive blockbuster to date in the form of The Great Wall.
Mixing high-profile Chinese actors such Andy Lau as Jing Tian with western stars in the vein of Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal, if successful, Zhang Yimou’s fantasy epic could be a harbinger of things to come. One actor that’s certainly a big draw overseas is Samuel L. Jackson, and Variety brings word today that the Kingsman star has now landed a role in sci-fi epic Inversion.
Helmed by director Peter Segal, Liu Yifei has climbed aboard alongside Jackson, rounding out a preliminary cast that already boasts Travis Fimmel. It has all the makings of a true sci-fi romp, too, following a...

It’s turning into one of those weeks that’s heavily populated by talk of more movie-to-tv adaptations. Today’s latest addition to the popular craze is being served up by FX, who are developing a small screen version of Jack The Ripper thriller, From Hell.
Set to be a direct adaptation of the original comic series by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, audiences will recognize the title from the 2001 feature. Helmed by The Hughes Brothers and starring Johnny Depp, it was a bloody, gory caper that failed to bring to life the brilliance of the source material. From what we know thus far, the TV series will hopefully avoid any further misfires.
The sole remaining connection between the feature and the serial is producer Don Murphy, who’s back to produce the show for FX. Per Deadline, Murphy always envisioned the adaptation as a series not a movie. In...

Screen adaptations of the works of legendary British comic writer Alan Moore have been a bit of a mixed bag and have often differed considerably from the original work.
One that strayed quite far from the text was 2001's "From Hell". Moore's original 572-page, black-and-white work is his magnum opus - a serialised exploration of the Jack the Ripper murders that explores its themes to extraordinary lengths.
The Johnny Depp-film though bares no real relation beyond the title and subject matter, transforming the story into a more standard whodunit which pales compared to Moore's indulgent yet nonetheless astonishing creation.
Now, FX and producer Don Murphy ("Transformers," "Real Steel") are teaming for a new TV series adaptation of Moore's work which "Children of Men" screenwriter David Arata will pen. The plan is to turn this into an 'event series' with the much longer runtime than a two-hour movie allowing time...

FX is turning Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's graphic novel From Hell into a drama series. David Arata (Children Of Men) will pen the adaptation, while Don Murphy is serving as executive producer.
The work was previously adapted into a film starring Johnny Depp and Robbie Coltrane. The Hughes brothers directed the film, but won't be involved in this new take.
From Hell tells the tale of "Jack the Ripper with the killer himself as the main character. Detailing the events leading up to the Whitechapel killings and the cover-up that followed, the 572-page graphic novel is a meditation on the mind of a madman whose savagery and violence gave birth to the 20th century."
Murphy, who also produced the film, said he always envisioned From Hell as a TV series due to its length. The book’s structure was changed in order to make into a two-hour movie.

The Jack The Ripper graphic novel From Hell, previously a Johnny Depp film, is being re-adapted for TV.
In this age, where films are being touted for small screen adaptations pretty much every week, it’s refreshing to see a graphic novel getting attention. Albeit one which has already been a film.
We’re talking of course about From Hell, Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell’s Jack the Ripper story which previously offered the basis for the 2001 Johnny Depp film of the same name.
FX are developing a series, with Don Murphy (producer of the film) on executive producer duties. The Hughes brothers, directors of the film, are not involved. David Arata, of Children Of Men fame, will write the series, though.

Cable network FX is developing a dramatic television series based on Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's From Hell, a graphic novel about Jack The Ripper. It was previously adapted into a 2001 feature film by 20th Century Fox that starred Johnny Depp, Heather Graham and Robbie Coltrane. It was directed by Allen Hughes and Albert Hughes. One of the film's producers, Don Murphy, will be an executive producer for the From Hell television series. He's the only major player from the film to be involved with the show. Children Of Men screenwriter David Arata will pen the adaptation. Moore and Campbell's From Hell was published from 1989 to 1996 and is 572 pages long. The comic was inspired by Stephen Knight's controversial theory that the Jack The Ripper murders were orchestrated by Freemasons and the British Royal Family to cover up a matter involving Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence. It is...

That crackling sound you can hear is Alan Moore setting fire to his beard. Transformers producer Don Murphy is developing a new version of Moore and Eddie Campbell's dense Jack The Ripper tome From Hell for television. The FX Channel is its intended home, and David Arata (Children Of Men) will adapt the complex narrative. We've been here before in slightly different circumstances. Murphy was also one of the producers behind the 2001 Hughes Brothers version starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham. That film did as good a job as could reasonably have been expected of simplifying and cramming the story into two hours. But Murphy apparently always thought the material was better suited to an episodic format, and the rise of must-see quality TV drama has prompted him to seize the opportunity. Moore and Campbell's massive massive graphic novel sees Inspector Abberline of the Yard investigating a Ripper conspiracy that involves the Freemasons,...

No one’s is ever going to launch an Oscar campaign for Need for Speed, but there’s a case to be made for unpretentious, action-packed popcorn pleasures like the racing thriller. Aaron Paul gave a mesmerizing performance, the stunts were spectacular and, perhaps best of all, it proved that helmer Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) knows his way around a slick action vehicle. Now, Waugh is set to dive into the deep end for a much pricier venture – a $120 million sci-epic titled Inversion.
The script, from Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Spy Game), follows a young Chinese scientist and a street-smart American ex-patriate who team up and race against time to prevent a cataclysmic reversal of gravity, which would send entire cities and civilians falling into the sky to certain death.

Need For Speed director Scott Waugh will direct the sci-fi epic Inversion, about two heroes trying to save the world from an apocalyptic end. Production will begin next spring.
Inversion follows two unlikely heroes, a young Chinese scientist and a street smart American expat, on a frenzied journey across the globe to save Earth from an apocalyptic threat – a total reversal of gravity that causes whole cities and civilizations to uproot and plummet into the sky.
The pic teams up Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Children Of Men, Spy Game). On board to produce are Michael Nozik, Markus Barmettler, and Philip Lee.
No word on who's going to star, but personally, I'm excited to see a sci-fi blockbuster with an Asian star.
Scott Waugh's last movie, DreamWorks’ Need For Speed, starring Aaron Paul, grossed $200m worldwide.
