An animated video for Mark Knopfler’s all-star charity single “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” – which brought together a stunning lineup of over 60 guitar gods to raise funds for Teen Cancer America and the Teenage Cancer Trust – has been released. It features the final recording of Jeff Beck along with contributions by Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Sting.

The song came out a week ago, but it was difficult to discern who was playing what part throughout the ten-minute song.

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.

The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.

Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler has united with over 60 artists — including Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Sting, Brian May, Joan Jett, Nile Rodgers, and Brian May — to create a new version of his 1983 instrumental “Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero.”

The song arrives on March 15, though you can hear a brief sample right now. It’s the final recording Jeff Beck created before his death in January 2023. All proceeds from the release will benefit Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.

Roger Daltrey has been unveiled as the final headliner for the Teenage Cancer Trust’s historic annual Royal Albert Hall concert series.

The Who frontman will close out the cancer charity’s weeklong fundraising series on Sunday 26 March.

Daltrey will be joined by Friends of Teenage Cancer Trust’s Richard Ashcroft, special guest Joan Armatrading and Far From Saints, who will be performing live for the first time.

Other previously announced headliners include Underworld (Monday 20 March), Wet Leg (Wednesday 22 Mach), Jake Bugg (Thursday 23 March), The Courteeners (Friday 24 March) and Kasabian (25 March).

On Tuesday 21 March, the series will hold an evening of comedy featuring Alan Carr, Harry Hill, Russell Kane, Seann Walsh, Rosie Jones, Slim, Neil Delamere and Fatiha El-Ghorri.

In 2000, The Who kickstarted the concert series, which has raised millions of pounds for young people with cancer.

Little Simz returned late last year with her fifth album, No Thank You, and a companion short film of the same name. On Monday night, the British-Nigerian rapper sought to promote both releases with a late-night television appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Sting is the latest songwriter to be given the highest honour of The Ivors Academy: Fellowship of the Academy.

The former The Police singer has sold over 100 million albums throughout his solo and band career, making him one of Britain’s most successful artists.

He has won more than seven Ivor Novellos, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

The singer follows in the footsteps of the likes of Elton John, Paul McCartney and Kate Bush, who have all received the award.

“Becoming an Academy Fellow is an honour reserved for those who have truly reshaped and redefined the art and craft of music creation,” said the Academy.

Amazon Music has also been announced as the sponsor of the awards and will commemorate Sting’s honour by releasing an exclusive demo of “If It’s Love”.

During the 2023 Ivors, which will be held at Grosvenor House in London on May 18, Sting will receive the highest distinction bestowed by The Ivors Academy: the designation of Academy Fellow.

Kate Hudson has explained why she found a Matthew McConaughey kissing scene “not that fun to shoot”.

The actor appeared opposite the Oscar winner in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008), and previously described a romantic scene they shared in the latter as “gross”.

“Every time I kissed McConaughey, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot, or wind,” Hudson, 43, said.

Speaking about the scene during a forthcoming appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Hudson explained that the reason it “was definitely not that fun to shoot” was due to the fact it occurred in the sea.

“Ocean, swimming and kissing is not always pleasant,” she said, adding: “Things happen in the ocean, like yuckiness… we’re like treading water trying to stay above water.”

Hudson continued: “Matthew and I have had very romantic kisses and then we’ve had very non-romantic kisses.

Joan Armatrading, the singer-songwriter who has worked with The Prince’s Trust charity for more than 40 years, has said that the Queen and King Charles III have “very similar traits”.

Armatrading, who became a trustee of the charity in 2020, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday morning (15 September) to discuss her encounters with the royals.

“He’s very down to earth,” she said of King Charles. “I’ve met the Queen a few times, they’ve got very similar traits. They are both very approachable. There are people around them to say, ‘Don’t do that,’ but they’ll invite you in.”

She added: “The King is very interested in talking to people, he wants knowledge… [him and the Queen] are really interested in people, the world.”

Armatrading was made MBE by the former prince in the 2001 Birthday Honours and Cbe in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music, charity and equal rights.

Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne, grime rapper Dizzee Rascal, documentarian Sir David Attenborough and singer Joan Armatrading were among the British artists to receive appointments on the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

“Intolerance”

“Intolerance” would be a massive, amazing undertaking in 2013. Can you even put in perspective what it was like 100 years ago? Arguably one of the most important and influential silent films ever made, “Intolerance” runs almost three hours and covers centuries of storytelling. It’s a fascinating film both in the history of cinema and the way it addressed cultural concerns of the time. Cohen Media Group continues to expertly restore and highlight great films. They’re quickly rising the ranks of the most important Blu-ray studios working today.

After a downtown Manhattan performance this week, the German-Nigerian singer Ayo was approached by a fan who commented on her soulful reggae-pop song, “Down on My Knees,” about the grief of a breakup.

“We play it cool, but that’s how we feel inside” the fan said.

“Yes, that is exactly what I meant,” Ayo said, looking deeply into her eyes before tightly embracing her for what seemed an eternity, as others gathered to greet the singer.

Tinie Tempah has been added to the lineup for next year's Isle of Wight Festival. The London-born rapper joins the bill of the Seaclose Park event along with Labrinth, Band of Skulls and Joan Armatrading. Tempah was scheduled to appear at the 2011 Isle of Wight Festival before pulling out. The artist completed a UK arena tour earlier this year. I've made six or seven attempts at getting this recap started, and I keep deleting them and starting over. Because somehow I think I turned back into a 16-year-old girl with a broken heart because the girl who said she loved me is going out with a boy.

If you didn't watch, I'm talking about Santana Lopez, who broke every expectation I had of what this episode would be about, and told Brittany she loved her and wanted to be with her.

Is there anyone reading this who thought that would happen? Even one single person? Because if you did, please tell me right now what's going to happen with the economy, because you're definitely psychic.

And it's not like this episode's gay was all girl on girl, either. Kurt and Blaine had their moments, and Kurt and his dad had one of the best father-son sex talks in the history of television.
