Exclusive: Streamer Viaplay is once again looking beyond Scandi Noir by greenlighting a feature about a woman in two timelines, experiencing a messy divorce and difficult teenage years.

There’s Something Going On is based on the popular novels from Martina Haag and features well-regarded Swedish actors Alexandra Rapaport and Ella Hammarsten Liedberg in the dual title roles of Petra. Haag is adapting alongside Peter Arrhenius.

Petra is portrayed at two turning points of her life – the protagonist as a contemporary 50-year-old struggling through a divorce, and as a 15-year-old in the 1980s nearing the end of school while facing up to her own parents’ disintegrating relationship.

Shanti Roney (The Unlikely Murderer), Gustaf Hammarsten (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Jessica Liedberg (Together) and Adrian Macéus (The Truth Will Out) all feature in the film, which explores universal themes of love, angst and the search for oneself.

The new six-episode drama, announced by Netflix yesterday, will star Bill Skarsgård in the role of “celebrity gangster” Clark Olofsson. Yesterday, Netflix announced the making of a six-episode drama series about the life of Clark Olofsson, a Swedish criminal who has been referred to as a “celebrity gangster”. The new project commissioned by the Los Gatos-based streaming giant will be directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker and drummer Jonas Åkerlund. Åkerlund, who is best known as a music-video director, recently worked on the thriller Polar (2019), which starred Mads Mikkelsen in the role of a retired assassin who finds himself on the receiving end of a hit, contracted by his former employer. Netflix has ordered “Clark,” a drama series about the Swedish criminal Clark Olofsson who will be portrayed by Bill Skarsgård (“It Chapter Two”).

Bill Skarsgård, the actor who played Pennywise in the 2017 adaptation of It, has been set to play Swedish criminal Clark Olofsson in a six-part Netflix series.

Skarsgård will star in Clark, a Swedish language adaptation of Olofsson’s autobiography in which the convicted drug trafficker and bank robber reflected on his criminal escapades which began in the 1960s.

Olofsson gave rise to the term “Stockholm syndrome,” in which hostages forge an affinity with their captor, following a failed bank robbery in the Swedish capital in 1973.

Clark will be directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Lords Of Chaos) and produced by Scandinavian Content Group. Fredrik Agetoft, Peter Arrhenius and Jonas Åkerlund are the writers.

The series will be executive produced by Hans Engholm, Åkerlund and Skarsgård. Börje Hansson and Patrick Sobieski are the producers.

Welcome to Sweden’s first season is currently airing on NBC, and has featured many high profile guest stars, including Poehler’s sister, Amy Poehler, as well as Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza and Gene Simmons. With season 2 on the horizon, Poehler tweeted a few suggestions for dream guest stars, citing Britney Spears, Barack Obama and Hulk Hogan as a few of his top choices.

The show is a particularly risky move for the network, as it features a fair amount of subtitles. In fact, the show has already been picked up for a second season by Swedish television.
