Sound Pros Rick Ash, Ron Eng Join Periscope's New Hollywood Facility

Sound pros Rick Ash and Ron Eng have joined Chicago-headquartered Periscope Post & Audio’s recently launched Hollywood facility.

Ash, a rerecording mixer who won has Emmy Awards for his work on the miniseries Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Warm Springs and Live From Bagdad, brings more than 200 credits across independent features, television and documentaries.

Eng, a supervising sound editor, sound designer and rerecording mixer, earned two Emmy Award nominations last year for Twin Peaks. His credits also include the animated feature Coraline and the David Lynch classic Mulholland Drive.

Guild Awards for Editing & Sound Mixing Announced
The American Cinema Editors handed out their “Eddie Awards” and with no surprise The Social Network was named the best edited feature-length drama. Alice in Wonderland won in the comedy/musical category, Toy Story 3 in the animated category and finally Exit Through the Gift Shop won in the documentary category. Modern Family, The Walking Dead, Treme, and Temple Grandin were awarded as the best edited programs on television last year.

The Cinema Audio Society gave their top film award to True Grit while Boardwalk Empire came out the big winner in television.

Kurland, Cas and Re-recording Mixers Skip Lievsay, Cas, Craig Berkey, Cas and Greg Orloff, Cas. This is the third Cas win for Kurland who previously won for No Country for Old Men and Walk the Line. "Black Swan," "Inception," "Shutter Island," "The Social Network," and "True Grit" are competing under the Motion Pictures Category for the 47th Annual Cas (Cinema Audio Society) Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2010.

'Hurt Locker' makes noise at CAS Awards

Summit's "The Hurt Locker" made more awards season noise at the Cinema Audio Society's 46th annual CAS Awards, where it took the prize for outstanding sound mixing in a motion picture.

The award's recipients were production mixer Ray Beckett and re-recording mixer Paul N.J. Ottosson.

At the event, which took place Saturday at the Millenium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, HBO's "Grey Gardens" added one more laurel to its crowded trophy shelf as it claimed the prize for television movies/mini-series, with production mixer Henry Embry and re-recording mixer Rick Ash taking the bows.

The episode of AMC's "Mad Men" titled "Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency," took the award in the TV series category, with the trophy going to production mixer Peter Bently and re-recording mixers Ken Teaney and Todd Orr.
