Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat II, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January of 2024 after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots last summer. The movie will finally be making its way out into theatres on October 24th – and while we wait for our chance to see it, producer Todd Garner has confirmed that he’s keeping his fingers crossed, hoping for the chance to make more sequels.

The brutal world of Mortal Kombat may soon grow into a much larger cinematic universe. With Mortal Kombat 2 on the way, producer Todd Garner confirmed that the sequel is far from the franchise’s final chapter.

In a recent interview with YouTuber FutureBoyWho2, Garner revealed that the creative team has big plans for the future. “We’re hoping this isn’t the end,” he said. “This isn’t just a one-and-done. Hopefully, this is just the beginning.”

Garner teased major developments for characters like Scorpion and Bi-Han, who will return as Noob Saibot in the upcoming film. He also reassured fans that iconic moments, like Kano finally getting his signature metal eye, are coming down the pipeline.

While the future of the series depends on how the next film performs, Garner made it clear the door is open for more.

Following the live-action reboot in 2021, the franchise has returned to on-screen conversations, with the sequel, Mortal Kombat 2, one of the most anticipated movies of the 2025 calendar, with an October 24 premiere date. Back in 2021, WB’s Mortal Kombat reboot movie faced an uphill battle at the box office, released deep into the Covid-19 pandemic that crippled the box office. The film ended up making $84 million worldwide, a number the upcoming sequel hopes to deliver a gruesome fatality to. Mortal Kombat II, well, it can’t blame the pandemic for any box office woes.

Mortal Kombat II marks the arrival of Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage into the rebooted movie franchise, and the character takes center stage in this first official trailer. The new trailer also makes it clear that the sequel will actually depict the titular tournament this time around, and it looks much more like a video game come to life than the first movie did back in 2021.

That being said, I’m still not entirely sold on the approach of this particular big screen universe. Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for “Mortal Kombat 2,” the sequel to the hit video game adaptation released in 2021. “Mortal Kombat 2” will release in theaters on Oct. 24.

While the original “Mortal Kombat” movie introduced several of the iconic fighting video game’s characters, the sequel adds quite a few more familiar faces. “The Boys” star Karl Urban joins the cast as Johnny Cage, a Hollywood playboy who’s one of the most famous human characters in the “Mortal Kombat” franchise.

Mortal Kombat is fast approaching. After nearly four years of waiting for Cole Young's (Lewis Tan) story to continue, the hotly anticipated sequel based on NetherRealm Studios's series of fighting games is ready to test its might in theaters in just a few short months on October 24. Earthrealm has bolstered its ranks with mighty new warriors, including Karl Urban as Hollywood star-turned-hero Johnny Cage, to fight the forces of Outworld and ultimately decide the world's fate. Now, the first trailer has finally been unveiled, teasing the bloody interdimensional martial arts clash ahead.

Fans have been waiting patiently for the sequel to the 2021 movie and will soon be rewarded with the first look at the new adaptation, producer Todd Garner recently revealed. The feature has a sprawling cast and promises an emotional story for fans of the video game and movie.

In a new X (Formerly Twitter) post, Garner announced, “Before the end of this month, there will be blood…” signaling the arrival of the highly anticipated trailer. When a fan asked when we could expect the trailer to drop, Garner cryptically replied, “Before this month ends…” The makers have been providing fans with steady updates, be it set images, plot-related teases, or official character posters, which have created much hype around the upcoming film. So whenever the trailer drops, fans will be tuning in to take in every detail.

In Japanese cinema, which has never shied away from the extreme but rather embraced the grotesque, both in terms of violence and sexuality, it is inevitable that a multitude of shocking scenes would emerge, or at least did exist before the era of political correctness.
