Peter Dinklage's Toxic Avengerhas officially resurrected the Moviefone telephone line more than a decade after it closed.
Per Bloody Disgusting, the long-lost Moviefone telephone line has officially returned. Rather than hearing the iconic "Hello, and welcome to Moviefone!" automated message, however, callers will instead be greeted by none other than Dinklage himself in the form of Toxie. Since the promotion between Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting began on Aug. 1, fans have been able call 1-802-377-film to hear Peter Dinklage in character as he reads show-times for the film, offers tips on purchasing tickets, and re-enacts scenes from the trailer for the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot.
Cineverse SVP of Marketing Lauren McCarthy said of the promotion, "We are thrilled to bring fans (writer-director) Macon Blair’s hilarious, punk-rock, heart-warming film alongside the imitable nostalgia of the Moviefone number. This toxi-rific pairing is just the latest installment in our...

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie.
A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.
Back to those reviews, and much of the praise heaped on The Toxic Avenger is featured heavily in the second half of this latest sneak peek. And yes, that's not a lie: this movie will release "unrated."

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived and it's violent, weird, and unhinged...which we're guessing is pretty much everything you'd want from a movie featuring the beloved Troma Entertainment cult hero.
Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews at film festivals in 2023 (the movie has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's been a battle to get The Toxic Avenger into theaters and, when it is finally released this summer, it will be unrated.
Based on the jaw-dropping gore - that's not hyperbole; someone literally loses their jaw here - it's not exactly hard to see why this movie didn't receive an R or even Nc-17 rating from the MPAA.
"The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature," director Macon Blair recently said, "with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new...

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was dropped way back in October 2023. Few updates followed that sneak peek, though reviews from various film festivals were largely positive.
Last year, we heard that director Macon Blair's movie - starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the character - had been deemed "unreleasable." Things looked bleak, only for it to have since been revealed that an unrated cut will hit theaters later this year.
Entertainment Weekly (via FearHQ.com) has confirmed it's coming on August 29 and we also have a first look at the movie's titular Toxic Avenger. That's not Dinklage, though, as Luisa Guerreiro - an actor and movement artist - donned the extensive makeup and prosthetics for Toxie's physical performance.
Regardless, it's quite the transformation and Blair tells the site, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature,...

The new images for The Toxic Avengergive a closer look at Peter Dinklage's hero character. The Toxic Avenger is a remake of the classic 1984 film of the same name. The movie tells the story of a janitor named Winston Gooze who, after falling into toxic waste, evolves into the eponymous Toxic Avenger. The new version of the horror comedy features a star-studded leading cast including Dinklage, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige. The movie initially premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 but now has distribution for this summer, opening on August 29.
Now, Entertainment Weekly has revealed new images of Dinklage in his Toxic Avenger role. The images show the star in full makeup all over his entire body. New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.
Previously, very little had been revealed from the remake. The only shot that's been released of Toxie was from behind the character, keeping his appearance mostly a mystery. Per Entertainment Weekly, that has changed with brand-new images released of the new Toxie. Check out the new photos below.
In the film, Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a chemical factory janitor who becomes transformed into a monstrous mutant after a freak industrial accident. He uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante, targeting the town's criminals. After hustling for nearly two decades to build a career as an actor and stand-up comedian, Adam Ray has recently hit on an entirely new level of exposure. The person he has to thank for it, you might be surprised to hear, is none other than Dr. Phil.
For many a performer, Ray tells Deadline, the goal is to hone one’s craft until hitting on something “that’s yours” and yours alone. This is what he’s accomplished with Dr. Phil Live!, a digital series garnering huge attention online of later, in which he plays a heightened version of the popular daytime talk show host, with the help of detailed prosthetics.

Over the course of its 50-year existence, Troma has helped launch the careers of filmmakers like Trey Parker & Matt Stone (South Park), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Eli Roth (Hostel), along with countless actors who went on to long careers, but their biggest export by any internal metric — financial success, brand recognition, franchisability, fan base — is 1984’s The Toxic Avenger.
The film is preceded by an “extreme violence” warning. The gore is indeed graphic — the first kill features a kid’s head being run over by a car, firmly establishing that no one is safe and nothing is off limits — but it could use about a dozen more trigger warnings by today’s standards. If you can be offended, you will be offended by the boundary-pushing content that includes (but is certainly not limited to) racism, homophobia, ableism, and sexual misconduct — yet there is substance behind the sleaze.

Elvis topped the feature competition at the 10th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (IATSE Local 706), winning a pair of awards for period make-up and period hair styling.
Accepting with the team, Shane Thomas said of the team’s challenge to creating Elvis Presley, “We wanted to represent and respect, but not impersonate.” He also saluted director Baz Luhrmann’s “unwavering commitment” to filmmaking.
Also on Saturday at The Beverly Hilton, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever collected the award for contemporary hair styling. Department head Camille Friend dedicated the award to the late Chadwick Boseman.
Angela Bassett – who is Oscar-nominated for her role as Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever – received the Guild’s Distinguished Artisan Award during the ceremony. Bassett called the Guild members the “unsung heroes of filmmaking” as she accepted the award. “For any show, there is a team who works long and hard to help us bring to life the character.

2021 Muah Awards: ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ Are Top Makeup, Hairstyling Winners
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” captured the top period feature prizes for makeup and hairstyling at the 8th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night, making it the prohibitive Oscar favorite for the dramatic transformation of Viola Davis as the titular pioneering blues singer. Davis, who landed her fourth Oscar nomination as the sexy, subversive Rainey — the most of any Black actress — was boldly uncompromising in demanding verisimilitude for Netflix’s adaptation of the August Wilson play. Davis was fitted with gold teeth, charcoal-like makeup, and a wig made of horsehair.

Guided by Anthrax guitarist, metal legend and horror reverent Scott Ian, Blood And Guts is a massive celebration of the magic of movie macabre. Last season saw Ian visit the likes of FX icon Greg Nicotero, and veterans Jennifer Aspinall, Gary Tunnicliffe, Jerry Constantine and Rob Hall for insight and demonstration of gory (and not so) transformation.
Season Two (premiering March 19!) is only looking up. We'll have an explosive hang with FX coordinator and pyro maestro Ron Trost, an incredible look at Rick Baker's legacy and much, much more.
Catch up with Blood And Guts below and keep up with the series by visiting its brand new Facebook and Twitter (@BloodandGutsFX), as well as subscribing to the fantastic Nerdist Channel on YouTube!

With the upcoming DVD release of Slime City Massacre right around the corner, I thought now would be an excellent time to look back at Greg Lamberson’s 1988 flick that started it all – Slime City. Put on your raincoats, my friends, because things are about to get messy.
Jason Bene: Although Slime City is a low budget film, it is quite ambitious. Where did you find the funding to make this cult classic?
Greg Lamberson: My producing partners (Marc Makowski and Peter Clark) and I put up about one third of the $50,000 budget ourselves; we bugged friends and family for another third, and a foreign sales rep named Alexander Beck put up the remainder. It was a different time when we started, because video was huge and no-budget films sold well. But by the time we finished, the bottom had dropped out of that market. So in one sense,...

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...
