Toxic Avenger Resurrects Iconic 35-Year-Old Piece of Movie Lore
Image
Peter Dinklage's Toxic Avengerhas officially resurrected the Moviefone telephone line more than a decade after it closed.

Per Bloody Disgusting, the long-lost Moviefone telephone line has officially returned. Rather than hearing the iconic "Hello, and welcome to Moviefone!" automated message, however, callers will instead be greeted by none other than Dinklage himself in the form of Toxie. Since the promotion between Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting began on Aug. 1, fans have been able call 1-802-377-film to hear Peter Dinklage in character as he reads show-times for the film, offers tips on purchasing tickets, and re-enacts scenes from the trailer for the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot.

Cineverse SVP of Marketing Lauren McCarthy said of the promotion, "We are thrilled to bring fans (writer-director) Macon Blair’s hilarious, punk-rock, heart-warming film alongside the imitable nostalgia of the Moviefone number. This toxi-rific pairing is just the latest installment in our...

Toxie Is Mean, Green, And Violently Fighting Crime In New Trailer For Unrated The Toxic Avenger
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie.

A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.

Back to those reviews, and much of the praise heaped on The Toxic Avenger is featured heavily in the second half of this latest sneak peek. And yes, that's not a lie: this movie will release "unrated."

While Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage lends his voice to Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro, an actor and movement artist, donned the...

The Toxic Avenger Gets A Bloody, Weird Teaser Trailer That Will Leave Jaws (Literally) On The Floor
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived and it's violent, weird, and unhinged...which we're guessing is pretty much everything you'd want from a movie featuring the beloved Troma Entertainment cult hero.

Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews at film festivals in 2023 (the movie has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's been a battle to get The Toxic Avenger into theaters and, when it is finally released this summer, it will be unrated.

Based on the jaw-dropping gore - that's not hyperbole; someone literally loses their jaw here - it's not exactly hard to see why this movie didn't receive an R or even Nc-17 rating from the MPAA.

"The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature," director Macon Blair recently said, "with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new...

The Toxic Avenger First Look Finally Reveals Peter Dinklage's Horrifying Toxie In All His Mutated Glory
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was dropped way back in October 2023. Few updates followed that sneak peek, though reviews from various film festivals were largely positive.

Last year, we heard that director Macon Blair's movie - starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the character - had been deemed "unreleasable." Things looked bleak, only for it to have since been revealed that an unrated cut will hit theaters later this year.

Entertainment Weekly (via FearHQ.com) has confirmed it's coming on August 29 and we also have a first look at the movie's titular Toxic Avenger. That's not Dinklage, though, as Luisa Guerreiro - an actor and movement artist - donned the extensive makeup and prosthetics for Toxie's physical performance.

Regardless, it's quite the transformation and Blair tells the site, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature,...

‘The Toxic Avenger’ – Entertainment Weekly Reveals First Images of Peter Dinklage’s Toxie!
Image
Troma’s beloved hero The Toxic Avenger returns to the big screen with a brand new reboot of the classic movie from director Macon Blair, with Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting unleashing The Toxic Avenger in wide theatrical release – fully Unrated – on August 29!

Peter Dinklage takes over the iconic role of The Toxic Avenger in the movie, and our friends over at Entertainment Weekly shared two first-look images of the new Toxie this morning.

Macon Blair tells EW of the new design, “The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd [Kaufman’s] original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon’s look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie’s design. I love what Millennium FX did with it — part human, part mutant, all heart.”

Toxic Avenger Images Reveal Best Look Yet At Peter Dinklage's Hero In Cult Classic Reboot
Image
The new images for The Toxic Avengergive a closer look at Peter Dinklage's hero character. The Toxic Avenger is a remake of the classic 1984 film of the same name. The movie tells the story of a janitor named Winston Gooze who, after falling into toxic waste, evolves into the eponymous Toxic Avenger. The new version of the horror comedy features a star-studded leading cast including Dinklage, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige. The movie initially premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 but now has distribution for this summer, opening on August 29.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has revealed new images of Dinklage in his Toxic Avenger role. The images show the star in full makeup all over his entire body. His skin is green, and he has two dark black eye sockets. His body has enlarged veins and bulging muscles and he wears tattered, demolished clothing. In one image,...

The Toxic Avenger Reboot Photos Reveal Best Look Yet at the New Toxie
Image
New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.

Previously, very little had been revealed from the remake. The only shot that's been released of Toxie was from behind the character, keeping his appearance mostly a mystery. Per Entertainment Weekly, that has changed with brand-new images released of the new Toxie. Check out the new photos below.

In the film, Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a chemical factory janitor who becomes transformed into a monstrous mutant after a freak industrial accident. He uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante, targeting the town's criminals. EW reports that actor and movement artist Luisa Guerreiro provides the physical performance of Toxie underneath the makeup and costume.

Director Macon Blair said of the new design,...

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Collection 4K Review – Troma’s Franchise Gets Ultimate Release Ahead of the Remake
Image
Over the course of its 50-year existence, Troma has helped launch the careers of filmmakers like Trey Parker & Matt Stone (South Park), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Eli Roth (Hostel), along with countless actors who went on to long careers, but their biggest export by any internal metric — financial success, brand recognition, franchisability, fan base — is 1984’s The Toxic Avenger.

The film is preceded by an “extreme violence” warning. The gore is indeed graphic — the first kill features a kid’s head being run over by a car, firmly establishing that no one is safe and nothing is off limits — but it could use about a dozen more trigger warnings by today’s standards. If you can be offended, you will be offended by the boundary-pushing content that includes (but is certainly not limited to) racism, homophobia, ableism, and sexual misconduct — yet there is substance behind the sleaze.

Elvis topped the feature competition at the 10th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (IATSE Local 706), winning a pair of awards for period make-up and period hair styling.

Accepting with the team, Shane Thomas said of the team’s challenge to creating Elvis Presley, “We wanted to represent and respect, but not impersonate.” He also saluted director Baz Luhrmann’s “unwavering commitment” to filmmaking.

Also on Saturday at The Beverly Hilton, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever collected the award for contemporary hair styling. Department head Camille Friend dedicated the award to the late Chadwick Boseman.

Angela Bassett – who is Oscar-nominated for her role as Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever – received the Guild’s Distinguished Artisan Award during the ceremony. Bassett called the Guild members the “unsung heroes of filmmaking” as she accepted the award. “For any show, there is a team who works long and hard to help us bring to life the character.

‘Westworld’ Team on Designing Season 4’s New Drones and Building an Army of Aaron Pauls
Image
Click here to read the full article.

[This story contains spoilers for HBO’s Westworld season 4.]

When HBO’s Westworld revealed its massive mid-season twist — that Aaron Paul’s Caleb had become a host — it inched this cerebral series closer to answering its longest-running question: what makes something human?

It’s a quandary the series’ special makeup effects team has had to not only help Westworld visually explore throughout the show’s run but in the face of several of its leading heroes and villains becoming hosts, alongside the introduction of a new series of drones imagined by Hale during its fourth season.

Executing that thematic exploration with Caleb took place during the season’s sixth episode, “Fidelity,” where host version #278 attempts to break out of Hale’s glass cage after she seeks to isolate what has made Caleb’s human consciousness resistant to her mind-control tech. In the process, Caleb runs into a series of frightening discoveries: past versions of him,...

2021 Muah Awards: ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ Are Top Makeup, Hairstyling Winners
Image
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” captured the top period feature prizes for makeup and hairstyling at the 8th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night, making it the prohibitive Oscar favorite for the dramatic transformation of Viola Davis as the titular pioneering blues singer. Davis, who landed her fourth Oscar nomination as the sexy, subversive Rainey — the most of any Black actress — was boldly uncompromising in demanding verisimilitude for Netflix’s adaptation of the August Wilson play. Davis was fitted with gold teeth, charcoal-like makeup, and a wig made of horsehair.

Winning both contemporary makeup and hairstyling feature honors at the virtual ceremony was Warner Bros./DC’s “Birds of Prey. He recreated the look of real wooden puppets for the titular hero (played by (Federico Ielapi) and his theater friends by using every prosthetic technique available.

Meanwhile, in what could be a preview of the Emmy race, Netflix’s buzzy “The Queen’s Gambit...

Fangoria’s new show on the Nerdist Network, Blood and Guts with Scott Ian, will debut with Knb Efx Group’s co-founder and make-up master Greg Nicotero who is behind some truly splatter-ful moments from The Walking Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Inglourious Basterds, to name a few.

Ian chats with Nicotero about his history creating zombies, predators, aliens and flesh-eating demons. It’s an awesome look at the iconic models used on some of the most popular horror movies in history.

Blood and Guts will feature five FX masters, including Gary Tunnicliffe, Rob Hall (Almost Human FX), Jerry Constantine, and Jennifer Aspinall, every Tuesday through November on The Nerdist Network.

Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...
