Hitting Netflix on July 3, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was a smash hit that reunited Eddie Murphys titular character with his longtime pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton). Along the way, he hooks up with Joseph Gordon-Levitts Detective Bobby Abbott to unravel a vast conspiracy, which at one point sees them steal a helicopter. It was a high-octane scene that utilized both practical effects and CGI, but veteran pilot Fred North said that director Mark Molloy wasnt too impressed with the stunt, until he decided to come along for the ride.

Appearing in a new video with Corridor Crew (seen below), North broke down the helicopter scene in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F with hosts Niko and Wren. It starts off with Murphy and Gordon-Levitt commandeering the helicopter from the roof of the Bhpd, and after flying through the streets of Beverly Hills ends with them crashing on a golf course.

Stunt pilot Fred North reflects on Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F director Mark Molloy becoming alarmed by a helicopter stunt executed during the film's production. As the fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop series, the film brings back Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley alongside his old friends John Taggart (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) when Axel's daughter's life is threatened. The stunt, which involved a helicopter crash filmed with practical effects, left Molloy visibly shaken.

Molloy's reaction underscores the intensity of the stunt, which combined real elements with visual effects. Broadway actor Ken Page has sadly passed away at the age of 70.

The beloved musical theatre actor was best known for playing the roles of Lion in the musical The Wiz and Old Deuteronomy in Cats, as well as voicing Oogie Boogie in the classic animated movie The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The news was confirmed on Monday (September 30) by Ken‘s friend, producer Dorian Hannaway.

“Ken Page has passed onto the next show. My heart is broken,” she posted on Facebook.

Beverly Hills Cop star Judge Reinhold has paid tribute to his longtime friend and colleague John Ashton, who has passed away at 76 following a battle with cancer.

The duo memorably played the ‘by the book’ police partners Taggart and Rosewood in the hit comedy franchise starring Eddie Murphy. Ashton was the straight man and Reinhold the clown in what became a beloved comedy pairing in the movies.

Reinhold said last night: “Thursday night John seemed like he was sleeping but the Yankees were on. They won the game, clinched the division then John made it to home. Forty years of laughs on screen and off. John Lived his life! My brother, my partner, my Sarge – I love you. There’s no smoking in Heaven, John.”

Beloved character actor John Ashton has died at the age of 76, it has been confirmed. The prolific star of stage and screen, who made memorable turns in the likes of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise and Midnight Run during a career that spanned over half a century, passed away on Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado after a short battle with cancer.

News of Ashton's passing was shared by a rep of the actor, who issued the following statement: “John was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

The actor's family has requested donations in Ashton's memory be made to Pathways Hospice Care. Ashton's rep, Alan Somers, also shared a statement confirming his death.
