Why CBS Canceled The Damon Wayans Sitcom Poppa's House
Image
Back in 2022, a new CBS sitcom was announced that would see Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. playing a father-son duo. At the time, Deadline described "Poppa's House" as "a dream on-screen sitcom pairing [that's been] two decades in the making," and while that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, it was at least exciting to hear that Wayans Sr. was returning to network comedy following his successful ABC series "My Wife and Kids." That early 2000s sitcom ran for five seasons and became a beloved part of many a millennial's childhood. As such, Damon Wayans returning to multi-camera comedy seemed like it could be a success — especially if that comedy also starred his real-life son, with whom he had an undeniable comedic chemistry as evidenced by their previous collaborations.

"My Wife and Kids" also featured Wayans Jr. in a recurring role, before the actor went on to star in...

Poppa’s House Series Finale Ends With A Cliffhanger: Will They Or Won’t They?
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the series finale of CBS’ Poppa’s House.

Tonight’s episode of CBS’ freshman comedy Poppa’s House “Magic Shine Along”, served as the show’s conclusion following the network’s recent cancellations. And while saying goodbye will prove difficult, at least Poppa’s House cast, creators, and crew put a lot of love into the episode.

In “Magic Shine Along,” Poppa finally finds the courage to admit his feelings for his colleague and friend Dr. Ivy Reed (Essence Atkins), only to have her ruin his plans. Moments before Poppa presented her with a bouquet, she reveals she has some feelings for her ex-husband, David (Coby Bell). Gutted, Poppa remained upbeat and acted like he was unaffected to support his friend as she explored whether there were any sparks left with her ex.

Not an easy task when David spends more...

‘Poppa’s House’ Finale: Poppa-Ivy Romance Might’ve Been Major Part of Season 2
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Poppa’s House Season 1 finale, “Magic Shine Again.”] The Poppa’s House Season 1 finale ended on a major romantic cliffhanger between its leads. After they spent the season slowly getting closer, the finale culminated in Poppa (Damon Wayans Sr.) and Ivy (Essence Atkins) ready to admit their romantic feelings for each other. Their timing, however, was off, resulting in missed chances. But the episode’s final moment proved that Poppa’s House intended to dive into this potential couple in Season 2. Sadly, Poppa’s House was canceled by CBS on April 22, less than one week before its first finale would air. Unless the show is able to be saved by another network or streamer (and some fans are hoping that’s possible), the Poppa’s House Season 1 finale serves as its series finale, cutting off a central romance just as it was beginning. Poppa was ready to admit his attraction to Ivy ...

CBS Cancels New Sitcom With 86% Rt Score After 1 Season
Image
CBS has decided which shows will not return for another season. Despite positive reviews, Poppa's House was canceled before its first season aired in full.

Per Deadline, CBS axed not just one, but two shows: Poppa's House and The Summit. The sitcom that comes from Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr. premiered in October 2024 to positive reviews. However, that wasn't enough to keep it on the air. With a season finale set for release later this month, Poppa's House will end after 18 episodes.

Poppa's House was created by Wayans Sr. and Kevin Hench. The series starred Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr. as a father and son duo. Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson also had main roles Dr. Ivy Reed, Poppa's new co-host, and Nina, respectively. It followed legendary radio host and happily divorced Poppa, who struggles when a new female co-host is hired, all while dealing with parenting his adult son.

‘Poppa’s House’ Canceled By CBS After One Season
Image
It’s one and done for CBS’ comedy series Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., which is not being renewed for a second season. It was CBS’ only freshman scripted series on the bubble and the only one to get canceled. The others — dramas Matlock, NCIS: Origins and Watson and comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage — all have been picked up for next season.

As Deadline reported last month, Poppa’s House had been vying for a single remaining comedy slot on CBS’ 2025-26 schedule with three half-hour pilots: the single-camera Dmv, the multi-camera Zarna, and The Neighborhood planted spinoff. It come down to Dmv, Zarna and Poppa’s House, with Dmv ultimately getting the spot with a series order. It was the end of the road for the others.

While Poppa’s House has been a respectable performer, earning a full-season order in November with a pickup of five additional episodes,...

CBS Cancels ‘Poppa’s House’ and ‘The Summit’ After One Season Each
Image
CBS has canceled “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit” after one season each.

Neither the sitcom from Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., nor the mountainous competition series will return on the network’s schedule next season.

“Poppa’s House” was created by Wayans Sr. and Kevin Hench, and starred the real-life father-son duo as father and son, alongside Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Geoffrey Owens, Caleb Johnson, River Blossom and Wendy Raquel Robinson had recurring roles.

“The Summit” was a spinoff of an Australian series of the same name. Hosted by Manu Bennett, the series followed a group of contestants tasked with climbing a treacherous mountain, all while surmounting mental and social challenges.

The news of these cancellations comes as CBS has ordered two new projects to series: “Dmv,” a single-camera comedy starring Harriett Dyer, Tim Meadows, Molly Kearney and Alex Tarrant; and “Einstein,” a drama led by Matthew Gray Gubler and Rosa Salazar.

Image
CBS has canceled Poppa’s House and The Summit after just one season apiece.

Poppa’s House brought Damon Wayans (My Wife and Kids, The Last Boy Scout) and his son Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl, The Other Guys) together. Wayans Jr. played Junior, Essence Atkins played Ivy, Poppa’s new co-host, and Tetona Jackson played Nina, Junior’s wife; Poppa’s House was produced by CBS Studios.

CBS finally renews one of its freshman bubble shows
Image
There is finally some good news for a CBS show on the bubble. One of the freshman series has finally landed a renewal!

Yes, it’s all about Watson. Two months after the debut of the series, we finally got the good news that there will be a second season. It seemed like a no-brainer when looking at the average linear ratings, but when you look closer at the numbers, it was easy to see why CBS was a little on the fence about the show’s future.

Watson’s premiere position gave the series an excellent start

The series premiered on Sunday, Jan. 26, straight after the AFC Championship. This strong position gave it a great start, pulling in a higher number of viewers than it would have got premiering just after a new episode of Tracker. There was a bit of a wait for the second episode, but multiple...

Is Late Night with Seth Meyers new tonight, February 24?
Image
Late Night with Seth Meyers has left a void in late-night TV recently. So what should fans expect to see tonight on NBC?

Seth Meyers and his team were off last week. The combination of the Monday holiday and recovering from the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special gave Meyers plenty of excuses to take some time off.

Unfortunately for fans eager to hear from Meyers, the break isn't quite over yet. There will not be a new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers tonight, February 24.

Instead, NBC will reair the January 20 episode. Interested fans can tune in to revisit appearances by Christian Slater and Zosia Mamet.

The good news is that there remains plenty of other late-night TV show options on Monday night. The other shows will be brand-new with some big-name celebrity guests.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! welcomes Chris Pratt, Drew Carey, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Gregory Alan Isakov.

20 Best Christian Movies Of All Time Ranked
Image
The best Christian movies include everything from adaptations of the best-known biblical stories to modern tales that subtly weave in Christian characters and themes to movies that are explicitly by Christians, for Christian markets. "Christian movies" is a bit of a vague genre, particularly considering how widely encompassing the term "Christian" is itself. But to put stricter parameters on the genre and ensure more unknown films are included, a good list of the best Christian movies should strictly include movies that adapt Christian texts and stories,...
