In what’s one of the last big showdowns at the summer box office, New Line’s Weapons, which is strong across the board, and Disney’s femme-skewing, much millennial-loved Freakier Friday are about to face off, with the tracking reports indicating a too-close-to-call race for No. 1 with $30 million-plus expected for both.
However, there is immense buzz from distribution sources that the Weapons, the enigmatic horror movie directed, written and produced by Zach Cregger about a class of school children who fled their homes mysteriously in the night, has the edge with a mid-$30M and possible $40M take. We’re hearing that AMC is seeing presales for Weapons ahead of 28 Days Later; that Danny Boyle zombie title opened to $30M.
Disney’s Freakier Friday, which reteams Lindsay Lohan and Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis from the 2003 film, is also hoping for $30M.

John ‘Gomez’ Astin Was Madly in Love With Carolyn ‘Morticia’ Jones While Filming ‘The Addams Family’
During a time in sitcom history when most husbands and wives slept in separate twin beds, the physical attraction between The Addams Family’s Gomez and Morticia was white hot. “I thought that the romance between Gomez and Morticia should be on the grand scale,” John Astin, who played Gomez, told the Television Academy Foundation. “They would have a relationship of great passion.”
Astin took it a step further when he spoke at a Monster Mania convention in 2009. “We were really the first couple on television — that I know of, anyway — who had a sexual relationship,” he said. “They could actually have had the kids that they were supposed to.”
Psychiatrists agreed, writing at the time that while the couple presided over a bizarre family, the amorous connection was unusually healthy for TV spouses.

If you had killer tomatoes on your 2025 bingo card, you're in luck. The beloved cult classic franchise that began in 1978 is back with a new sequel titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, which promises to "pit the eternal power of nature against AI's best and brightest." Directed by David Ferino, this will be the first feature film in the franchise since 1992, and the fifth overall in the zany series that mixes horror, comedy, and parody.
Perhaps the best part of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is its amazing cast, which includes the likes of David Koechner (Anchorman) as the U.S. president's Press Secretary, and Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) as the film's first victim. John Astin (Gomez from The Addams Family) is also on board to reprise his role of Professor Nicholas Mortimer Gangreen from previous movies, as is Oscar-nominee Eric Roberts. The talented cast of “The Pitt” includes a number of actors whose parents are also in the business. While Taylor Dearden and Fiona Dourif might, technically be considered “nepo babies,” they have more than proven themselves to be as hardworking as their emergency room characters in the hit drama on HBO’s Max.
Here is who’s related to who and where else you might have seen them before this. Some, like Dourif and Isa Briones, who plays Trinity Santos, have even acted alongside their famous family members.

When the joyous "Batman" TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward hit airwaves in 1966, Batman comic books had only been published for the past 27 years. Batman is such an omni-presence in our popular culture that a world without him seems foreign, but truth be told, he's not really that old. When the '60s show was on, his creators weren't just a living memory, they were actually still alive — and one of them even wrote for the show.
That would be Bill Finger, the writer who made Batman into the character we all know. Modern consensus is that artist Bob Kane came up with the name "Batman" for a winged pulp hero, but Finger added the defining details: Batman's costume, the name Bruce Wayne, his detective side, his tragic origin story from the murder of his parents, and the comic's major supporting characters.

Let it be stated up front: William Dozier's 1966 TV series "Batman" is not just the finest iteration of Bob Kane's and Bill Finger's superhero character, but it may be one of the best TV shows of all time. Using the outlandish trappings of superhero comics, "Batman" created nothing less than the wildest, most hilarious parody of conservative values in a generation. Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) were heroic, yes, but they were also unbearably square, drinking milk, going birdwatching, and supporting their local police to an unhealthy degree. We admired them and laughed at them at the same time. The show's many villains were free agents, whose villainy offered a refreshing element of chaos to the world. They were sexual, exciting, and had fun.
All of this was wrapped in a stylized, mannered, near-cartoon universe. Reality was tilted. The show purported to support heroism, but somehow,...

The 1970s was a decade of legendary sitcoms, dominated by true powerhouse comedies like All in the Family, M*A*S*H, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. But in the shadows of these television titans, there are some truly hilarious sitcoms that have sadly faded from the cultural consciousness.
The decade saw television writers push the boundaries of the sitcom format. For many shows, this meant telling stories that explicitly addressed racism, sexism, and other topics that were considered sensitive in America's turbulent political landscape. Still, other writers explored the nature of the sitcom itself as prime time began to see series centered on increasingly bizarre circumstances that embraces offbeat humor.

Any story about how an actor was cast in their role for a film or TV show is interesting. Understanding the person beneath the surface of a character and what it took for them to be cast adds to the depth of a project, especially when it's an epic trilogy like The Lord of the Rings. With so much detail in the narrative and such realism placed on the surreal, it can be easy to get lost in J.R.R. Tolkien's creation and not consider how it all came together. Before viewers got to enjoy the events of Middle-earth, there were a lot of actors doing their utmost to appear in the trilogy.

The Western genre may not be as popular as it once was, especially on television, but that doesn't mean there aren't great stories still being told on the medium. Popular Western shows like Deadwood and Justified were consistently thrilling and garnered many fans in the process. On the other hand, there are stellar Western shows that have fallen under the radar because they only lasted one season.
Whether because of low ratings, an inability to find a larger audience or the narrative told everything it needed to, these series were axed after their sole season. Regardless if the shows originated in the modern era or before the 21st century, they remain a welcoming treat for Western genre fans. Over 60 years, there have been a massive number of Addams Family shows and movies, and here are the Addams Family movies in order. From the pages of magazines to television to the big screen, America's favorite gothic and macabre clan have experienced their fair share of trials and tribulations. The Addams Family have been a fixture on screen since the 1960s with several actors who played Wednesday Addams helping the character become an icon. The classic characters are originally based on the 1938 single-panel New Yorker cartoons by Charles Addams, but it wasnt until the 1964 sitcom that The Addams Family would become pop culture staples. Since the sitcom, The Addams Family has been adapted on numerous occasions for movies and television. However, the most recently entry into the franchise, Tim Burton's Wednesday, suggests the family's eccentric daughter is the real star.
Wednesday Addams is the daughter of Gomez and Morticia and has inherited her parents fascination with homicide and torture, which she often practices on her younger brother Pugsley. With her deadpan tone and dark wit particularly in Christina Riccis version of the character Wednesday is often a highlight of The Addams Family movies and TV shows. Since The Addams Family...

Throughout the last two decades, Peter Jackson has become one of modern cinema's most celebrated directors. With his directorial work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises, along with his most recent project, a five-Emmy-winning Disney+ original docuseries on The Beatles titled Get Back, it's almost hard to believe that Jackson cut his teeth in the B-horror genre. Starting his career with cheesy horror films like Bad Taste and Dead Alive, no one safive-Emmy-winningw his transition from gore-filled slaughterfests to Academy Award-winning fantasy films coming.
A few years before his foray into Middle-earth with The Fellowship of the Ring, Jackson teamed with '80s megastar, Michael J. Fox, and the two created possibly the most underrated film of both their careers, with The Frighteners. While the film was seen as a financial failure, not quite making back its budget, it was decently lauded among critics, specifically for its fun performances from Fox,...

The Addams Family is the first family of horror. They're creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky... and they've been around in one medium or another since 1938. Starting out as a comic strip by cartoonist Charles Addams, the family was made famous on the small screen in 1964 with the emergence of their iconic self-titled TV show. From film and cartoon appearances to fan-favorite offshoots like Wednesday, this family has lasted in some form or other for nearly a century.
One thing about them that's not nearly so well known, however, is their lineage. The Addams Family, not to be mistaken for the iconic American ancestors, are a proud and rambunctious breed, many of whom reside just within or outside the confines of the family home. From the famous nuclear family to the staff they treat like family and everyone in between, here is an overview of the twists and turns in their gnarled family tree.

The Riddler could have appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, as co-writer Jonathan Nolan has confirmed that the supervillain was in consideration to be featured in the third chapter of the Dark Knight trilogy. However, as Nolan explained in a new interview, those plans were scrapped due to concerns it'd have been too similar to Heath Ledger's take on Joker in the previous film.
"We had these conversations. Bane came out of a conversation between David [S. Goyer] and Chris [Nolan]. I was unsure about that at the story stage," Jonathan Nolan said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I think Chris understood that what we had done, and what Heath had done with that character, you didn't want to go anywhere near it. I sort of started to play with ideas about the Riddler, and what could be done with that character, but it did feel like it was close enough...

Charles Addams' very first Addams Family comic strip -- or at least a proto-version of the Family -- appeared in the pages of the New Yorker in 1938. In the strip, a vampire-like woman stands next to a large, bearded, brutish man at the foot of a staircase in a haunted mansion. Bats fly overhead and spider webs adorn the light fixtures. A creepy third member of the family peers down through a railing high above. Standing at the door is an eager, white-suited vacuum cleaner salesman attempting to hawk his wares. "Vibrationless, noiseless, and a great time and back saver. No well-appointed home should be without it," the salesman says. He is unperturbed to be in a haunted house, and presses on with his sales pitch, even though the manse has clearly never been swept.
Charles Addams would revisit these creepy characters regularly, eventually settling on a core cast of characters.

Ah, "The Addams Family." They're creepy and they're kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky. And so on. The ghoulish Addamses were created by cartoonist Charles Addams in the pages of The New Yorker before Hollywood came calling, adapting Addams' comics into a TV series in 1964. The series followed a family of weirdos who live every day like it's Halloween, much to the confusion of the normal folks all around them. The original "The Addams Family" series lasted only two seasons, running between 1964 and 1966, but its impact and influence continued for decades.
Sadly, the majority of the original cast of "The Addams Family" are no longer with us. But there's one main player who is still around.

Netflix is looking for ways to expand the universe of hit drama Wednesday, which reportedly involves developing a spin-off featuring Uncle Fester.
The Addams Family has been a perennial presence on the big and small screen since Charles Addams’ comics were adapted into the original television show in 1964.
Since then, there have been reunion television films and animated series, but the franchise arguably hit its peak in the 1990s with the release of feature films The Addams Family and it’s arguably even better sequel Addams Family Values.
Very few people talk about Addams Family Reunion which, although it features a scenery chewing turn from Tim Curry, failed to make an impact, much like The New Addams Family, the television series which followed soon after, which is only really worth watching for the episode where John Astin, the original Gomez, returns as Grandpapa Addams.

Peter Jackson truly hit the public consciousness with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. Yet before that, he was creating very different films. Along with his strange puppet-based Bad Taste (1987) and Meet the Feebles (1989), he found his way into other, more high-concept films.
One of these, The Frighteners, was released in 1996, five years before The Lord of the Rings. It contained two elements that Jackson loved in his movies to that point: Horror and comedy. Here's why the film is perfect for a Halloween movie night.
What Is The Frighteners?
In The Frighteners we are introduced to Frank Bannister, played by the always-delightful Michael J. Fox. He is a man who, after the death of his wife, can see ghosts. With this talent, he makes friends with three ghosts from very different time periods. Each one looks the way they did when they died.

The Addams Family movies have had varying degrees of success, with some being financially successful but receiving mixed reviews from critics. The first Addams Family movie from 1991 was a campy reinvention of the family, but its uneven tone didn't resonate well with critics. Addams Family Values, the darker and funnier sequel from 1993, is considered superior, with a great subplot and strong performances from the cast.
How do the Addams Family movies rank in comparison with each other? The Addams Family began life as a series of morbidly funny cartoons by Charles Addams for The New Yorker in the 1930s. Throughout the various adaptations of The Addams Family, Gomez Addams' costumes have changed to reflect each unique interpretation, but many pay homage to Charles Addams' original sketches. The costumes in the TV series from the 1960s and the recent animated films have been the closest to the comic-accurate designs, featuring double-breasted pinstripes. While some adaptations like the ill-fated 1990s cartoon series and the 1998 straight-to-video film missed the mark with inaccurate costume choices, the 1991 film is considered the best because of its original choices that stayed true to Addams' drawings.

Where to Watch Powered by Christina Ricci's appearance in Netflix's Wednesday series has opened the door for more actors from the beloved Addams Family movies of the 1990s to make cameos. It's been almost 30 years since Batman Forever, Joel Schumacher's legendary film about the Dark Knight starring Val Kilmer, hit theaters. In an era where superhero movies were not the trend, Batman managed to be one of the few comic book icons to successfully make it to the big screen. In large part, thanks to its villains.
Beyond the personality and cunning of the Caped Crusader, one of the great charms of the Batman universe is Gotham City and the vast gallery of criminals it presents. Some are more realistic like the mafia mogul Carmine Falcone, and others are more eccentric like The Riddler.

Freak Friday went from a young adult novel in the early 1970s to a fairly reliable live-action staple for Walt Disney Pictures. There have been four adaptations so far, though two of them -- a terrible 1995 made-for-tv movie and a better 2018 musical version -- rarely engender much discussion. Besides the 1976 original, the stand-out is the 2003 remake, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and a then-ascendant Lindsay Lohan. Both films have curried their share of fans over the years, and both have good reasons to tune in now -- no small feat for any movie decades after all the profits have been counted and spent.
The two films adopt the same basic formula, as mother and daughter magically switch bodies for a day. Both use it to deliver the same message about walking a mile in someone else's shoes before judging them. But one of them does it with a little more panache and substance than the other.

“They’re gonna put me in the movies,” Ringo Starr sang on The Ed Sullivan Show as the Beatles covered Buck Owens’ hit “Act Naturally.” The 1965 appearance featured songs from the group’s new film, Help!, director Richard Lester’s send-up of James Bond movies and other elements of spymania, as well as a follow-up to the greatest jukebox movie ever made, A Hard Day’s Night (1964). Both films put the rhythm up front. It was natural.
Prior to the nationally broadcast live performance, Starr prepared the audience by introducing himself as “all nervous and out of tune,” and smiled embarrassedly without missing or slowing a beat through his propulsive country swing. Starr was a natural performer, a locally famous beat-keeper in Liverpool before joining the Beatles, whose rhythm patterns had a character which set him apart from other drummers. Gomez Addams will be returning to Wednesday season 2, and it seems that his character will only get better. Three decades after the original Night Court ended its nine-season run on NBC, the iconic sitcom is back with a revival series, also titled Night Court. The new series sees John Larroquette return as Dan Fielding, a role for which the veteran performer won four consecutive Emmy awards. He stars alongside the new lead character, Judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the original protagonist Harry Stone (played by the late Harry Anderson).
Melissa Rauch helps lead Night Court as the young judge of Manhattan's evening arraignment court, having developed the series along with her husband, Winston Rauch, and writer Dan Rubin.
