Are you ready to go back to Pandora? Titanic maestro James Cameron is here to make sure you book your round trip ticket to his alien world now. The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash — due in theaters on Dec. 19 — just debuted online after being featured ahead of Fantastic Four: First Steps over the weekend. Unlike its predecessor, The Way of Water, we haven't had to wait too long for this latest Pandora-set adventure. 13 years separated the first two Avatar features, but there's only been a three-year gap between the second and third installments.

But a lot can change in three years, particularly when it comes to the technology that makes these visits to Pandora possible. The imagery on display in the Fire and Ash trailer indicates that Cameron and his creative team are continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible with digital effects and motion capture.

A few years ago, we got two different movies that involved a young Edgar Allan Poe investigating mysteries during his time at the Military Academy at West Point, Raven’s Hollow and The Pale Blue Eye. Now, it sounds like a young Poe will be investigating more mysteries soon, as Variety reports that Freddie Highmore – who played Norman Bates in five seasons of the TV series Bates Motel and also starred in seven seasons of The Good Doctor – is in negotiations to star as a “reimagined” Edgar Allan Poe in the prestige detective period series Augustine & Edgar, which is set in Paris during the tumultuous mid-19th century.

Actor Freddie Highmore (“Bates Motel”) is in talks to star as a reimagined Edgar Allan Poe in “Edgar & Augustine,” a new French detective period series set in Paris in the mid-19th century, Variety reports today.

Highmore will star opposite Audrey Fleurot, one of France’s best-known actors.

The series’ fictional story will follow “Poe as he travels to Paris and encounters Augustine, a quick-witted female detective inspired by the character of Auguste Dupin, the protagonist of three tales created by Poe.”

Dupin made his first appearance in Poe’s 1841 short story “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” which is often considered to be the first detective fiction story. The character preceded Sherlock Holmes and Hercules Poirot.

“Edgar & Augustine” was developed by Elizabeth Kesses at Ejk Productions for over six years and is being penned by Patrick Renault, who will act as showrunner on the series.

For eight seasons, The CW's The Vampire Diaries weaved a romance that always kept fans guessing. Olivia’s sister Monica may have visited for the annual Harvard-Yale game, but her actual favorite sport was one-upping her younger sibling.

I hoped the episode’s focus on Olivia would give her some much-needed character development. While that didn’t exactly happen, her nimble participation in this festive farce was reward enough for now.

Season 7 will see the introduction of two new rookies in the form of Deric Augustine (All American) and Patrick Keleher. Their characters will feature in recurring guest capacities and will be introduced in the mid-season. Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher have joined the cast of “The Rookie” as recurring guest stars in Season 7, which is set for a mid-season premiere on ABC. The news was announced during Disney’s presentation at the summer 2024 Television Critics Association press tour.

Augustine will play Miles, who is described as “one of the newest rookies at the LAPD. As a Texas transfer, Miles is a ‘rookie’ despite being a two-year veteran of the force.” Keleher will play Seth, another new rookie who “seems like the ideal police officer, but the job requires quick, decisive action — something that doesn’t come naturally to Seth.”

Augustine’s credits include playing Muhammad Ali in the first two seasons of “Godfather of Harlem” on MGM+ and Clay in Seasons 4 and 5 of “All American” on the CW. He has also appeared in “Swagger,” “Shameless,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Cloak & Dagger” and “Queen Sugar.
