Born to a young single mother in Athens, Greece, and adopted as an infant to Southern California, James P. Axiotis turned a beginning marked by uncertainty into a lifelong pursuit of storytelling with purpose. By age 13, he had stepped onto his first set, and by 24, he became one of NBC's youngest producers, launching a career that would span four decades and cross continents.
As a dual citizen of Greece and the U.S., James brings a global lens to every project. His body of work includes network television, independent films, and documentary storytelling that explores identity, immigration, justice, and the stories of the unheard. His most personal project to date, Georgia, tells the true story of his birth mother-a tribute to the thousands of women in Greece once forced to give up their children under the label "illegitimate."
James has served two terms on the National Board of the Producers Guild of America and contributes to the International and AAPI Committees. He is also a member of the Producers Guild of Europe, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and an Academy Circle Member at BAFTA, where he dedicated a chair in his mother's name at the Princess Anne Theatre.
Beyond the screen, James is a passionate humanitarian. As an officer for the Children of War Foundation, he has hand-delivered medical supplies to hospitals in Ukraine and supported refugee education efforts in Jordan, documenting these missions to raise awareness through film.
Recent work includes Another Place, a refugee-focused documentary selected by four international festivals, including the London International Film Festival and UNHCR Refugee Film Festival in Japan, and Reading Rainbow Live, the modern revival of the iconic PBS series promoting childhood literacy.
James P. Axiotis continues to create globally resonant, socially impactful content through his company, JPA Productions. His journey-from orphanage to storyteller-fuels every frame, honoring the past while illuminating the future.
