It’s one of my favorite genres, and Prime Video has been dropping a steady stream of big, funny, explosion-filled movies (including the latest one starring Eddie Murphy!). It honestly feels like they’re using these as warm-ups before the next “James Bond” movie — which Amazon now fully controls — and if that’s the case, keep practicing so as not to mess with one of the best franchises of all time. Between these newer titles, some underrated sequels, and a few all-time crowd-pleasers, I went back through everything and pulled the seven best movies streaming on Prime Video right now. Whether you’re into treasure hunts, buddy comedies, or full-blown musical magic, here’s where I’d start.

David Ayer‘s Street Kings (2008) may not be the most famous movie in Keanu Reeves’ oeuvre, but it is one of his best and most underrated works to date. However, what makes it even better is his mixed ethnicity, specifically Native Hawaiian, Chinese, and Portuguese ancestry [via IMDb], which saves the film from being trapped in an age-old Hollywood stereotype, i.e., featuring a white male actor in the role of a hero and savior.

Moreover, the film’s over-the-top action sequences and lone hero on a path of vengeance make it a solid precursor to Reeves’s John Wick saga, giving Street Kings a good reason to deserve the franchise treatment from Hollywood.

In this adrenaline-infused cop drama littered with moments of typical street bravado and badge lingo, Street Kings refuses to be boring for even a minute with its constant testosterone-fueled sequences of action and suspense.

Despite its basis in existing comic book material, the film ended up making only $6.9 million worldwide. The following year, he released Raw Deal, which made only $16.2 million.

Pitt’s new sports drama F1, made with a towering budget reportedly touching $300 million, has overtaken Statham’s The Beekeeper’s domestic box office collection ($66 million), earning $72 million in North America. However, it is still trailing behind the surprising 2024 strong performer by less than a million in total earnings.

Chechik’s film was dismantled in post-production, slashed to ribbons following bad test screenings. The final product runs well under ninety minutes and is hard to understand. It sits on the other end of blockbusters in the ‘90s adapted from hit televisions from yesteryear.

Now, following the official announcement that Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct, the site has shared additional details about the arrangement.

Each person had their own idea of what makes a movie “the best,” but in the end, The Dark Knight made the biggest impression.
