Today, AMC Networks’ Acorn TV and Channel 5 announced additional cast members and the start of production on the new murder mystery drama, Murder Before Evensong.

The six-episode drama starring Matthew Lewis is based on the first novel in the Sunday Times best-selling series by British author Reverend Richard Coles and will air later this year on Acorn TV worldwide and Channel 5 in the UK.

Acclaimed Netflix drama The Crown wrapped up its sixth and final season last year, with rumors circulating about potential sequels and spin-offs. Producer Andy Harries recently opened up about the idea of more drama surrounding the royals, calling the possibilities "endless".

The short follows Whishaw as a down-on-his-luck man who tries to turn his life around with the help of his anarchic mum (Marion Bailey) but figures from his past and a bygone tragedy threaten to consume and derail him. The short film blends multiple genres including comedy, drama, and tragedy and it is Whishaw’s powerhouse performance that is propelling this little indie film that could into a race full of the big boys.

Were one to go into “All the Light We Cannot See” totally cold — drawn to the four-part limited series, say, purely by its placement atop Netflix’s home page — it would be impossible to discern that it was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel celebrated for its lyricism and profundity.

The dialogue here is pedestrian. The lead character, blind French teenager Marie-Laure LeBlanc (screen newcomer Aria Mia Loberti), escapes the German invasion of Paris in World War II with her father, Daniel (Mark Ruffalo). They seek refuge in the French port city of Saint-Malo. Yet throughout the journey, and the limited series, our Gallic heroine and Papa LeBlanc speak English with British accents.

The series’ wartime visuals are dark and obviously CG-enhanced. More practical effects include perfectly contained fires placed in strategic spots to indicate — along with James Newton Howard’s overwrought score — that a neighborhood has been bombed.
