Dan Wakefield Dies: Writer Who Created Controversial Series ‘James At 15’ And Resigned Over Network Interference Was 91
Image
Dan Wakefield, a prolific author and journalist who made television history when he created and wrote the controversial late-1970s drama James at 15 only to resign when NBC executives bristled over an episode’s depiction of teenage sexuality, died yesterday at a hospice facility in Miami. He was 91, and had been in declining health in recent months.

His death was announced by his attorney, Ken Bennett, to the Indianapolis Star. Wakefield was born and raised in Indianapolis.

In addition to James at 15 and various novels, Wakefield’s credits include the screenplay for the 1997 film Going All The Way, starring Ben Affleck and Jeremy Davies, based on his 1970 novel of the same name. The 1979 divorce drama Starting Over starring Burt Reynolds, Jill Clayburgh and Candice Bergen, written by James L. Brooks and directed by Alan J. Pakula, was based on Wakefield’s 1973 novel.

Born May 21, 1932, in Indianapolis, Wakefield began...

Charlie Hofheimer in The Mandela Effect (2019)
Celebrating the Best ‘Friday the 13th’ Film With Ginny and ‘Part 2’ [Horror Queers Podcast]
Charlie Hofheimer in The Mandela Effect (2019)
The Mandela Effect.

After dedicating an entire month to Erotic Thrillers like Bound and Stranger by the Lake, October has been blissfully fun and silly. Last week, we celebrated our 250th (!!!) episode last week with Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. This week we paid homage to Jason Voorhees with a look at one of Friday the 13th title: Part 2!

In the sequel to Sean S. Cunningham‘s game changer, poor Alice (Adrienne King) is brutally killed off immediately. After a five-year-jump, a new group of horny counsellors prepare to open Camp Blood. These red shirts include iconic Final Girl Ginny (Amy Steel), her sad sack boyfriend Paul (John Furey), as well as hot and fit Terry (Kirsten Baker) and pervy Scott (Russell Todd). And then there’s poor sweet Vickie (Lauren-Marie Taylor) and disabled Mark (Tom McBride).

What these new twenty-somethings don’t realize that Jason Voorhees (Steve Dash and...

Image
Just in time for the first Friday the 13th of the year (there’s another one coming up in October), Amazon has started taking orders for the book Sackhead: The Definitive Retrospective on Friday the 13th Part 2. As the title indicates, this 277 page book is entirely dedicated to 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch it Here) – and you can pick up a copy of Sackhead at This Link! The book is currently going for the price of 18.99.

Written by R. G. Henning, Sackhead has the following description: For fans of the genre, 1978-1984 is the Golden Age for slasher movies. Towing the line is Friday The 13th Part 2, the first follow-up in the Friday the 13th franchise, released in 1981. Beloved for its hooded antagonist, its cunning Final Girl, and its likable supporting cast, it is a tour de force in low-budget filmmaking. Directed by Steve Miner and starring Amy Steel and John Furey,...

Friday the 13th, Part 2 - Blu-ray Review
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Friday the 13th made a bushel full of money and the quickest way to cash in on it again was to make a sequel. Part 2 pretty much remade the first one, but Jason was given star billing (wearing a flour sack). Years have passed and Alice (Adrienne King) is recovering from her terrors at Camp Crystal lake. She.s then stalked by an intruder, discovers that something has gone bad in her fridge, and then joins her friends in the grave as the intruders kills her. Near the abandoned Camp Crystal lake camp, a group of counselors, Sandra (Marta Kober), Jeff (Bill Randolph), Terry (Kirsten Baker), Mark (Tom McBride), Vicki...

Reviewing the 'Friday the 13th' DVD Deluxe Editions
Just about everyone who is evenly slightly versed in pop culture knows who Jason Vorhees is. Even those who have never seen a Friday the 13th film are familiar with the name. Jason's iconic status as a serial killer has him joining the ranks of serial killers the likes of which only Michael Meyers and Freddy Krueger have achieved. Because everything old is suddenly new again, New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures are co-producing a remake of the 1980 low budget slasher flick. It hits theaters this Friday, February 13 (big surprise) and both studios are undoubtedly already counting the box office dollars in their minds even though not a single ticket has been sold. As the date nears, Paramount has grabbed some of the original films out of their vault and given them slick new DVD releases, the first one even hitting Blu-ray (read Brad's review of that one here...
