U.K. Agency Casarotto Sets New Leadership With Jodi Shields Named Chairwoman, Tracy Brimm Upped to Head of Film and TV
Image
Independent Brit agency Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, which represents a number of big name writers, directors, literary properties and heads of department, had appointed Jodi Shields to the newly-created role of chairwoman with overall responsibility for the company.

Tracy Brimm, who joined the agency in 2018 as creative affairs executive, will expand her role to include the position of head of film and television.

Casarotto’s longtime head Jenne Casarotto passed away in February 2024 at the age of 77 following a short illness. The agency’s managing director Anna Higgs left the company four months later after only a year.

Shields is a three-time veteran of the London-based company, having previously overseen its film and TV business. As chair, she will serve as the strategic lead, working closely with COO Ian Devlin, head of theatre Mel Kenyon, the board of directors, heads of department and the advisory board. Casarotto said that the...

Tracy Brimm, who joined in 2018 as Creative Affairs Executive will expand her role to include the position of Head of Film and Television.

As Chairwoman, Shields will serve as the strategic lead, working closely with COO Ian Devlin, Head of Theatre Mel Kenyon, the board of directors, heads of department and the advisory board. The role aims to shape the company’s long-term vision and “ensure that the values of the independent agency continue to grow and evolve”. Alan Dean Foster and a legendary novelist’s life in film
Image
Author Alan Dean Foster talks to us about his connections to some of the most important sci-fi films of all time, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien and more.

With a career spanning over five decades, dozens of novels and many more short stories, Alan Dean Foster is one of the most prolific genre writers currently working. And whether he’s writing sci-fi or fantasy, novelisations of major films or personal storytelling, Foster’s work has always had a touch of the cinematic about it.

In one of his earliest published stories, a 1971 short called Why Johnny Can’t Speed, Foster imagines a near future in which drivers rumble onto freeways with guns strapped to their vehicles. Published two years before Jg Ballard’s own auto-fetish dystopia, Crash (1973), or in cinema, the petrol-crazed nightmares of Death Race 2000 (1975) or Mad Max (1979), its descriptions of mayhem on America’s roads have...

The Most Daring Met Gala Outfits: Fashion Risks That Paid Off
Image
The Met Gala has long been the playground for the avant-garde and, more so, for the terribly theatrical. Fashion’s biggest night out, originally a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute held on the first Monday in May, has evolved into a spectacle where celebrities push the boundaries of fashion.

Excess is the expectation. Hand-stitched gowns taking two years to make, ten-foot trains requiring a small army, and headpieces that defy physics – if your outfit doesn’t require a team of handlers, did you even try?

The main goal also seems to be grabbing attention rather than following the theme. The 2024 theme, The Garden of Time, inspired by J.G. Ballard’s story, was largely ignored by many celebrity attendees. The Met Gala has, it seems, become less about raising funds and more about who can wear the most talked-about outfit. Whether through elegance or a touch of absurdity, stars...

Why Tom Hiddleston's 'High-Rise' Is Better Than Its Source Novel
Image
More than once throughout his 50-year career, British writer J.G. Ballard's writing turned out to be eerily prescient. From the more straight sci-fi of his early-60s work to the surreal and often controversial satires of the '70s, Ballard had an uncanny knack for turning humanity's worst tendencies into art. His works have been adapted to film by directors as disparate as David Cronenberg and Steven Spielberg, a testament to the range of his talents. One of his most celebrated works, 1975's High-Rise, received its own film treatment back in 2015, courtesy of eclectic filmmaker Ben Wheatley, the director behind such acclaimed indie fare as Kill List, A Field in England, and Free Fire.

Following the residents of a state-of-the-art high-rise apartment building that quickly devolves into chaos when the amenities break down, Ballard's novel chillingly satirizes the ways that the upper classes cannibalize each other when their imagined social order begins to crumble.

Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina (2014)
Ex Machina (2015) Retrospective Movie Review: Why the Sci-Fi Thriller is Still Vital Ten Years On?
Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina (2014)
In the promotional tour for the UK release of “Ex-Machina” in January of 2015, writer-director Alex Garland lamented the relative failure of “Sunshine,” “Never Let Me Go” and “Dredd” by commenting that his films miss some mainstream sensibility’ and ‘… just don’t break out’. It’s interesting to look back on that statement now following the recent box office success of “Civil War.” Has Garland’s sensibility changed? Or has the cinematic dial shifted to a place in which his films have now become more conscionable to the masses? To answer this question, we must go back to Garland’s childhood…

Obsessed with the sci-fi fables of J.G. Ballard and Ray Bradbury, as well as old episodes of “The Twilight Zone,” Garland channeled his interest in artificial intelligence into his screenplay for his directorial debut “Ex-Machina.” What started as an “epiphany” based on Murray Shanahan’s ‘The Technological Singularity’ evolved into...

Nina Gantz at an event for The Oscars (2025)
Wander To Wonder - Jennie Kermode - 19463
Nina Gantz at an event for The Oscars (2025)
Do you ever wonder what became of your childhood friends? Not just the ones who lived on your street or the ones you went to school with, but the ones whom you might once have felt even closer to, as an infant, watching their adventures on TV? British children’s television of the Seventies and early Eighties was a dizzying phenomenon, bringing together a collection of highly creative individuals with almost no oversight, and heavily influenced by psychedelic drug culture. The programmes that emerged were frequently unintelligible to adults, but thrilled young viewers. Nina Gantz’s BIFA-winning and Oscar-shortlisted short film imagines such a film and observes the fate of its characters – or rather, the miniature human actors playing them – after the sudden and unexpected demise of its creator.

The body lies rotting on the floor, resembling Jg Ballard’s Drowned Giant, never spoken of directly yet dominating every aspect.

The Fly: Nikyatu Jusu to write and direct a film set in the universe of David Cronenberg’s remake
Image
Back in 1986, David Cronenberg directed a remake of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 sci-fi horror classic The Fly (which was based on George Langelaan’s short story) – and the result is considered to be one of the best remakes of all time. 20th Century Fox, now the Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios, has been wanting to replicate that success with another remake for a couple of decades now… but the project has never managed to escape from development hell. Cronenberg wanted to come back and make another Fly movie, but it fell apart over budgetary issues. Screenwriter Todd Lincoln wrote a remake of The Fly that he described as a “dark, twisted, grounded re- imagining… Part Val-Lewton, part J.G. Ballard, part Neal Stephenson with some Horror Manga touches.” The studio wasn’t into it. J.D. Dillard was attached to direct a new version of The Fly for years, then stepped away from it.

Tom Hiddlestons Weirdest, Wildest, Angriest Sci-Fi Film Just Hit Max
Image
Based on the J.G. Ballard novel of the same name, High-Rise is a film that takes a unique and dystopian look at society. Directed by Ben Wheatley, the film is set in a 40-floor high-rise tower block in 1975, where the wealthy residents live on the top floors, and the poor live beneath them. With everything they need in the building, the residents rarely leave and become isolated from the outside world, living in a social bubble of their own making. The building begins to malfunction, slowly at first, before everything descends into anarchic chaos. The film, as a whole, depicts a volatile analogy of the class system and societal breakdown. Even though the book was written in 1975 and the film was made in 2015, the story remains as relevant as ever.

It Was Fate That Led Christian Bale to Make His Debut in a Steven Spielberg Movie That Almost Didn’t Happen: ‘You should do it’
Image
Christian Bale is considered to be one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. The actor has been in the industry for over three decades, cementing his reputation through his credible acting.

However, the credit for his stellar exposure in the industry lies with iconic director Steven Spielberg. It was his 1987 war film, Empire of the Sun which gave a 13-year-old Bale his big break. Most fans don’t know that this opportunity came purely due to luck being with Spielberg at the time of the making of the film.

The turn of events which led to the onset of Hollywood’s most iconic actor

Christian Bale has been in the entertainment industry since he was a minor, the actor worked in several projects as minor characters. Finally in the 1987 epic war film Empire of the Sun, the then-young actor got his deserved recognition.

‘Reagan’ Is Everything the Right Gets Wrong About Art
Image
There’s a reason that hardline American conservatives regard so many books, movies, TV shows, music, theater, and other creative arts as ideologically poisonous, tools for “indoctrinating” people with “woke” values or “grooming” children to adopt an LGBTQ+ identity and become sexually permissive. It’s because they find little value in a piece of entertainment beyond its reinforcement of a political agenda and preferred cultural norms. To many of the far-right persuasion, Hollywood being a liberal place means it necessarily produces content to liberalize the masses.

Therefore, the right is...

10 Horror Flops From The 2010s That Are Worth A Second Watch
Image
Some horror movies take time to find their audience, like Annihilation and The Lords of Salem, that deserve a rewatch. Gems like Knock Knock and Under the Skin were misunderstood upon release but are now gaining appreciation for their unique takes. Films like A Cure for Wellness and Doctor Sleep were critically acclaimed but faced challenges translating that into box office success.

Sometimes it takes a couple of years for a film to find its audience, and in the past decade, this was the case for several horror movies that have proven more than worth another watch. The horror genre has long been considered a proving ground for young up-and-comers, so its a crowded chock-full of talent, and some of those bold visions haven't always immediately landed.

The 2010s were a decade so rich with horror movies, from slasher movies to the rise of psychological horror movies in the 2010s,...

The Brood (1979)
Mark Kermode on… David Cronenberg, master of gore as a metaphor for our deepest anxieties
The Brood (1979)
From The Brood to Crash and new film The Shrouds, the Canadian body horror pioneer has outraged the censors and inspired countless directors

In 2021, French film-maker Julia Ducournau won the Cannes Palme d’Or with her blistering, autoerotic magnum opus Titane. It was a richly deserved victory – a celebration of a bold new voice in cinema. Yet for longstanding fans of body horror – a genre pioneered decades earlier by the Canadian writer-director David Cronenberg – it also felt like karmic payback for the festival’s botched response to Crash, Cronenberg’s controversial 1996 masterpiece, to which Titane is heavily indebted.

During a career spanning six decades and more than 20 feature films, Cronenberg, 81, has inspired everyone from Japanese auteur Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: The Iron Man) to rising British star Rose Glass. But his brilliant Jg Ballard adaptation was denied its own Palme d’Or win thanks largely to the disdain of Cannes jury president Francis Ford Coppola.

‘The Substance’ Review: Demi Moore And Margaret Qualley Pair Up For The Year’s Smartest, Goriest Horror Breakout – Cannes Film Festival
Image
Have you ever dreamed about being a better version of yourself? With her second film, Coralie Fargeat not only addresses this question but takes aim at ageism and sexism in the entertainment industry with a riotous, dreamlike horror-thriller that ends in a delirious symphony of blood, guts and otherwise undefinable viscera. Imagine David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive fused in a telepod with David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers, add the unbelievably dynamic pairing of Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, process it through the ultra-vivid color palette that is Fargeat’s hyper-saturated imagination, sprinkle a bit of J.G. Ballard on top, and you have the perfect breakout genre movie of the year.

If you had “Demi Moore to make a hagsploitation body horror splatter movie” on your 2024 bingo card, you stand to make a fortune, but, come on, it’s not very likely; there’s been nothing in her filmography so far...

A Retro Revival: Nicole Kidman’s Met Gala 2024 Balenciaga Flamenco Gown Takes Us Back to the 1950s
Image
As a seasoned Met Gala attendee who has made several trips up the iconic Met stairs, Nicole Kidman lived up to her elegant reputation by reviving a 1950s vintage gown for her return to the gala this year.

I love how she subtly interpreted this year’s theme, opting for a bespoke black-and-white Balenciaga gown instead of the more popular whimsical floral motif. Some, however, weren’t impressed by her ostensibly typical black-and-white look, which they assumed deviated from the evening’s “The Garden of Time” dress code.

In Full Bloom: A Detailed Look At Zendaya’s Three Enchanting Garden-Themed Costumes at the 2024 Met Gala
Image
Zendaya made a spectacular comeback to the Met Gala on Monday! Following a five-year absence, Zendaya returned as a co-chair for the 2024 Met Gala, joining Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny. Before this, her last Met Gala appearance was in 2019 when she dazzled the crowd in her magical Tommy Hilfiger Cinderella ball gown.

The 27-year-old actress delivered more than I could have imagined at the 2024 Met Gala, showcasing not one or two but three exquisite outfits appropriate for a co-chair. Her latest outing came following a whirlwind press tour for Challengers, where she once again demonstrated her mastery of method dressing by donning chic tennis-inspired looks.

In true Zendaya and, of course, Law Roach fashion, they did not let fans, including me, down.

Archival Looks, Recycled Materials and Lab Grown Jewels Puts Spotlight on Sustainability at Met Gala
Image
Fashion’s biggest night is star-studded event all around — usually with a focus on new clothes — but this year a less talked-about topic joined the conversation at the Met Gala in a big way: sustainability.

Monday night’s event kicked off with La La Anthony, a red carpet co-host for Vogue‘s livestream, proudly declaring that she was wearing “pre-loved vintage accessories” from eBay. The announcement set the stage for some of the celebrities who Anthony and her co-hosts, Gwendoline Christie and Ashley Graham, interviewed throughout the night who also showcased their sustainable red-carpet choices.

Designer Stella McCartney was joined by actress and model Cara Delevingne, singer FKA Twigs and singer Ed Sheeran on the Met Gala red carpet. The British designer created custom looks for each of her guests, all made from 100 percent sustainable materials.

The designer’s brand collaborated with sustainable jewelry company Vrai for Delevingne’s and Sheeran’s looks.

Sleeping Beauty Awakens: Elle Fanning Exudes Romantic Elegance in Enchanting Balmain Transparent Gown at 2024 Met Gala

Elle Fanning is best known for portraying Sleeping Beauty in the 2014 film Maleficent and its 2019 sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. So, I am unsurprised that she chose to channel her iconic character, Aurora, on the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala.

On Monday, May 6, Elle Fanning was among the many celebrities who attended the event, which raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits.

Met Gala: See All the Stars in Thom Browne’s Class of 2024 Photo (Exclusive)
Image
As is house tradition, Thom Browne’s 2024 Met Gala crew posed for a pre-carpet group photo, shared exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter.

The Thom Browne class of Met Gala 2024 group includes Cynthia Erivo, Rebecca Ferguson, Gigi Hadid, model Alton Mason, NBA pro Ben Simmons, Jaden Smith, Steven Yeun and — making a rare red carpet appearance together — Queen Latifah and her partner, choreographer/producer Eboni Nichols.

They gathered for their class photo at The Pierre New York hotel, wearing pieces that tackled the night’s “The Garden of Time” dress code and also speak to Browne’s laser-sharp vision and effortless cool. On display among the group of nine are nature details, plaid and a whole lot of black and white.

Nicki Minaj Wore a Flower-Powered Marni Dress with Her Own Line of Press-On Nails to the Met Gala
Image
Nicki Minaj’s whimsical Marni minidress popped with petal power at the 2024 Met Gala.

The “Pink Friday” rapper stepped out in an artful dress made from yellow silk duchesse adorned with hand-painted recycled aluminum flowers. Her museum-worthy silhouette featured a bold brushstroke-like texture, giving the impression of a three-dimensional oil painting. At her side was the Italian fashion house’s creative director, Francesco Risso.

Minaj completed her custom Technicolor look with her very own line of Pink Friday press-on nails — in a decidedly low-key light pink almond shape — and a matching chain strap Trunkaroo clutch by Marni.

Minaj made her Met Gala red carpet debut in 2013 when she wore a navy gown by Tommy Hilfiger. This year marks her seventh time attending the fundraiser; she has previously worn Prabal Gurung, Riccardo Tisci for Burberry, Jeremy Scott and H&m to the event.

Met Gala: See All the Craziest Looks, Wildest Hair and Strangest Fabrics
Image
The theme of the 2024 Met Gala was “The Garden of Time” — based on a story by J.G. Ballard – but, really, the theme of all Met Galas always has been: Go big or stay home!

While there have been myriad gorgeous gowns, jewels and natty tuxes over many Met Gala years, what do the most dress-obsessed actually remember? Cher half-naked. Lady Gaga’s change of dress performance art. Billy Porter’s royal entrance in Egyptian armor and entourage. Katy Perry as a chandelier. They all proved: It doesn’t pay to stay staid — even if staid means gorgeous.

So the question comes down to: Does one do good outrageous? Or outrageously bad? Both the bad and the beautiful always get the most ink — sometimes, you can’t tell the difference. With such risky looks, it’s a toss of the coin. If you’re Cher, you can pull off anything. Everyone...

Katy Perry Goes Viral During Met Gala for AI Photos That Look So Real Even Her Mother Was Duped

Katy Perry has pulled off some pretty unreal looks at past Met Galas, but nothing compares to this year: The images that surfaced of Perry on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art are actually not real.

The superstar singer went viral Monday night during the thick of the Met Gala coverage after images made the rounds online that seemingly showed Perry on theme with a billowing floral gown. The dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard and blends seamlessly with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

Met Gala veterans Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo hit this year’s cream and mossy green carpet in looks subtly inspired by their November movie adaptation of beloved Broadway musical Wicked. The subtle inspiration in question? Pink and green accents.

The more understated of the two, Grande, wore a white Loewe mother-of-pearl gown designed by creative director Jonathan Anderson. Under the lights of the carpet, the dress shimmered in pastel shades of the Wicked-themed colors. Erivo sported a Thom Browne two-piece set featuring tux details, pink petals and scattered insects, including what look to be green praying mantises. See all the 2024 Met Gala looks here.

The duo kicked off their ‘Wicked’ method dressing at the Oscars. Grande — playing the good witch Glinda — wore a bubblegum pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown. Erivo channeled her character Elphaba in a green leather Louis Vuitton dress that fashion designer Jenna Lyons and HauteLeMode...

Met Gala 2024: Nicole Kidman Turns Back Time in 1950s-Inspired Balenciaga Gown
Image
Nicole Kidman certainly turned back the clock in her Balenciaga look at the Met Gala.

Designed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, the Oscar-winning star stepped out in a 1950s-inspired white double silk bustier and flared skirt over frayed layers of black silk organza to mimic feathers. The original gown was inspired by the ruffled dresses worn by flamenco dancers, a nod to Balenciaga’s Spanish heritage.

“It was based on a dress in 1951 by Balenciaga at that time by Cristóbal,” Kidman told La La Anthony on the red carpet. “It was something that I saw in [a Richard] Avedon photo [of Dorian Leigh from Harper’s Bazaar]. I asked Demna if he was willing to reinterpret it. So he reinterpreted it in the vein of the sleeping beauties and the gowns, bringing them back to life. So I consider this to be a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ brought back to life. It’s an honor...

The Met Gala meets the Movies
Image
by Cláudio Alves

Midsommar (2018) Ari AsterThis Spring, the Costume Institute at the Met is putting on an exhibition titled "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion." It's all about garments that, through the passage of time, have degraded or become too fragile to wear and exhibit by traditional means. They are slumbering, but through technological wizardry and museum magic, one hopes to breathe new life into them. From pepper ghosts to glass coffins, replicas, and immersive soundscapes, the Met will deliver visions of the fashioned ephemeral cataloged through an appeal to nature. The exhibit has three elemental parts– earth, air, and water –underlining the connective tissue between the pieces and the natural world, where decay is an essential part of existence. In some ways, it's a look at notions of impermanence through fashion.

Fittingly, this year's Met Gala has a dress code defined as "The Garden of Time," a novel by J.G. Ballard that considers similar themes.

Kim Kardashian Opts for Cozy Cashmere and Corset Met Gala Ensemble
Image
Straying from her typical Met Gala ensemble, Kim Kardashian stepped out in a cozy meets couture look.

The reality star and brand mogul wore Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano. The designer created a haute couture ensemble comprised of a pale grey cashmere cardigan, a couture corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt tooled with silver metal.

The luxury fashion brand said the look was meant to evoke lace, flowers, leaves and sprigs alongside silver chain and floral motifs cut from mirror fragments. The silhouette was “inspired by the symbiotic love-affair between Elizabeth Taylor and her jewelry,” according to a release.

Kardashian has been a constant at the Met Gala for the last few years. Interviewed by long-time best friend La La Anthony for Vogue on the red carpet, she said that getting the chance to see those important to her is what she looks forward to the...

Demi Moore is a Floral Sculpture in Custom Harris Reed Made from Vintage Wallpaper at Met Gala
Image
Along with Mindy Kaling — who walked the Metropolitan Museum steps in flowy Guarav Gupta — actress and fashion star of the moment Demi Moore wore one of the most sculptural gowns of Met Gala 2024.

On a night when a number of stars played it safe — see Donald Glover in a brown suit — Moore went all out in a custom dress by British-American designer Harris Reed Vogue livestream co-host Ashley Graham called one of “the biggest outfits I’ve seen all night.”

The outspread black dress features large pink-and-white flower imagery and black arrow-like spikes. Moore assured Graham, however, that it wasn’t heavy. “Actually, it’s not heavy at all,” said the actress, cheekily adding, “Feel my hips. They’re soft. It makes you want to rub them.” See all the red carpet arrivals here.

Reed shared that the dress was inspired by the stunning Cartier necklace that Moore paired with the look.

Madelyn Cline’s 2024 Met Gala Dress Is Inspired By Tommy Hilfiger’s Classic White Button-Down Shirt
Image
For her second appearance at the Met Gala, Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline stuns in a perfectly tailored Tommy Hilfiger gown based on the brand’s staple: the button-up shirt.

In addition to Cline, guest including K-pop group Stray Kids and GQ Global Editorial Director Will Welch wore the designer and attended with him and his wife, Dee Hilfiger.

Cline and Hilfiger opted for a straightforward approach to “The Garden of Time” dress code. With shades of white and cream, scattered rosettes and a full skirt, Cline’s look contrasts the streamlined Stella McCartney black and silver dress she wore last year at her 2023 Met Gala debut.

As for her voluminous blowout, hairstylist Marc Mena used the viral Wavytalk’s 5-in-1 Curling Wand Set. He started off with the thermal brush attachment to achieve that effortless ’90s look, and then added extra movement with various-sized barrels throughout her long locks.

Met Gala 2024: Lana Del Rey Channels Briar Rose in Thorned Alexander McQueen Gown
Image
Lana Del Rey looked sharp at the 2024 Met Gala.

Fresh off headlining two weekends of Coachella, the “Video Games” singer stepped onto the moss-inspired carpet in a veiled cream Alexander McQueen sheath gown by Seán McGirr, who took inspiration from Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.

A haute couture version of a fit-and-flare silhouette from the label’s spring/summer line, Del Rey wore a silk, tulle and georgette corseted dress with hand-embroidered thorny vines that appeared to climb up from her skirt and behind her head. The singer finished the look with a crystal-embellished red rose corsage. The look was a nod to the British fashion house’s “crown of thorns” headpiece from the fall/winter 1996 collection of then-creative director Shaun Leane.

“I’m with Sean [McGirr at] McQueen — Oh god, I hope I don’t poke him,” Del Rey joked on the red carpet, where she stood beside collaborator Kim Kardashian. (The...

Image
Mindy Kaling turned heads at Monday’s Met Gala red carpet when she stepped out in a beige sculptural gown.

“It makes me really happy to rep such talented geniuses who happen to be from my community,” Kaling said to Vogue of her gown and her jewelry, which was also created by an Indian designer.

The beautifully textured dress became an early favorite of the night. Kaling noted that the dress had a name — “The Melting Flower of Time.” While the structural front of the dress was a hit, the back of the dress truly made the dress stand out, emphasizing the name.

“If you look at the cape, you can see that it looks like a flower that was once blossoming is now melting,” Kaling...

Ayo Edebiri Wears 3D Flowers by Loewe to Met Gala

Ayo Edebiri has hit the carpet of her very first Met Gala.

The Bear’s breakout star, who has become a fashion darling with a series of custom looks during awards season, teamed with Loewe for a custom floral, backless column dress. In an interview with Vogue, Edebiri said that of her options this year, this “was the one that spoke to me the most.” Her stylist, Danielle Goldberg, then relayed that it also was the creation that Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson was most stoked about.

“That really locked that in for me, in my heart,” Edebiri added to Vogue. “The level of craftsmanship that it took to make this dress is so beyond. Looking into those details, taking that into consideration, it just amplifies that feeling for me.

This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” took its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. The 2024 Met Gala’s Carpet Color and Design Scheme Explained
Image
Simply doing a literal red carpet for a red carpet event isn’t enough anymore. Especially when it’s a party as big as the Met Gala.

Each year, the Met Gala rolls out a new carpet design that’s inspired by the theme of the evening.

This year, the star-studded crowd, which includes co-chairs Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, is walking up steps that are covered in a cream color with mossy green accents along the sides.

The design choice is in keeping with the dress code of the 2024 Met Gala, “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by a J.G. Ballard story.

Meanwhile, the sides of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s storied steps are lined with greenery-covered barriers between the stars and photographers and reporters, and the walls are painted with forest scenes that look like they could be out of an old masters painting.
