Kumail Nanjiani on 'The Big Sick,' Twitter and Surviving Our Political Moment
Holly Hunter, Ray Romano, Anupam Kher, Zoe Kazan, Adeel Akhtar, Zenobia Shroff, and Kumail Nanjiani in The Big Sick (2017)
Most romantic comedies are selling a fantasy: flowers, Champagne, weddings that cost more than the budget of your average indie film. But The Big Sick, a rom-com that takes a long detour into random disaster, grounds itself in reality from the very first scene, when an emcee calls a young comedian named Kumail Nanjiani to the stage. The Silicon Valley star, playing a loose version of himself, dramatizes the decade-old period when he met his wife – the film's co-writer Emily V. Gordon. They fell in love, dated and broke up...

Jonathan Groff Ensemble Comedy From ABC Studios Lands At CBS As Put Pilot
Exclusive: For his first writing effort since the end of Happy Endings, the series’ showrunner Jonathan Groff is taking on another single-camera comedy about a group a friends. CBS has given a put pilot commitment to The 40s, which explores the trials and tribulations of that special time in life for a group of friends living on the same street. Groff is writing and executive producing for ABC Studios where he is under an overall deal. This is the second put pilot commitment at CBS for ABC Studios, which has been very aggressive in selling to outside networks this season, along with a multi-camera comedy from Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and Danny Chun. This marks Groff’s second big commitment so far this season and the fourth sale, joining Dinks with Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael, which has a pilot production commitment at ABC, as well as projects...

Star Trek (2009)
You'll Never Guess Which Show Lucille Ball Saved
Star Trek (2009)
Though it's typically the faces in front of the camera that fans associate with a hit TV series, many of your favorite shows had some very famous people behind the scenes as well. From "Star Trek" to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," legendary Emmy, Grammy and even Oscar winners helped create the shows that have become integral parts of TV history.

The tradition of big names producing signature shows continues this season with Rebel Wilson's "Super Fun Night" on ABC. Wilson is producing her American TV debut along with comedian Jeff Ross and Conan O'Brien and his Conaco Productions, who was behind "Andy Barker, P.I." and the short-lived NBC drama "Outlaw," starring Jimmy Smits.

O'Brien also co-created "Super Fun Night" with Wilson and had only the highest praises for her at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour earlier this month, comparing Wilson's character Kimmie to Lucille Ball and Tina Fey's iconic characters.

'Deal or No Deal' winner Andy Barker jailed following bankruptcy
Deal or No Deal winner Andy Barker has been jailed for not declaring his winnings from the Channel 4 game show.

Barker - who won £35,000 on the popular series - was declared bankrupt in November 2011 and should have declared his winnings to authorities, The Sun reports.

However, he reportedly chose to spend the money on holidays and jewellery over a period of three months.

He was declared bankrupt with debts of £61,438 and should have declared his winnings to pay back his creditors.

He will now face a 13-week prison sentence after someone who he owed money to watched his appearance on Deal or No Deal.

"What should have been a joyful moment has become a nightmare," his barrister Tim Pole informed the court.

Department of Business Innovation chief investigations officer Glenn Wicks added: "Bankruptcy rules are there for a reason. The courts take offences like these very seriously."

Barker appealed...

28 Things That Have Happened Since 'Arrested Development' Initially Ended
Will Arnett
"Arrested Development" is finally back in our lives after seven years off the air.

And in that time, the dysfunctional Bluth family missed out some pretty significant moments, from Barack Obama getting elected to a bevy of social media platforms launching, beloved TV shows signing on and off to serious solar system developments. Plus, there have been plenty of reality stars in between, ripe for the mocking.

Below, HuffPost TV rounded up 28 events that mattered between "Arrested Development's" original run, which ended on February 10, 2006, and the show's revival on Netflix, which kicked off May 26, 2013.

NBC - The story of a downfall
10 years ago, NBC programs ranked among the most watched on television. In 2001/2002, the peacock had launched successful new series such as Law & Order : Criminal Intent, Crossing Jordan and Scrubs, not knowing that in the following 4 years, they would produce only 5 successful new shows while countless failed, prefiguring the crisis they're into since 2007, a crisis they don't seem to be able to get out of.

In 2002/2003, American Dreams was the only new show that worked, all the other were cancelled : sitcoms In-Laws (15 episodes), Ausa (12 episodes, 4 unaired) and Hidden Hills (18 episodes, 5 unaired), and dramas Kingpin (6 episodes) and Minister Sterling (10 episodes). Both Boomtown and Good Morning Miami were renewed for a second season scheduled for 2003/2004 but halfway through it, they were both cancelled, they ended in December 2003.

During the 2003/2004 season, Las Vegas was the only successful new series, the others were axed : dramas Miss Match (18 episodes, 7 unaired) and The Lyon's Den (13 episodes,...

Dop Adam Krajczynski Talks A Reckoning
Adam Krajczynski. Remember that name as I am sure you will see it again; his talents as a cinematographer cannot go unrecognized. Shooting the little-seen (but that will hopefully be changing soon) film A Reckoning on an unbelievably tiny budget, Krajczynski’s vision is right there on the screen – beautiful, eerie, stunning and haunting.

Dread Central recently had the opportunity to interview the well-spoken and charming Dop while he was working in Spain. And he had plenty to say about cinematography and the, at times, hilarious making of A Reckoning (review here).

DC: Hello, Adam, and thank you for taking time out of your schedule to speak with Dread Central about your stunning work in Andrew Barker's film A Reckoning.

How about a little information about yourself first? Where are you from? Where did you attend school?

Ak: Where to start...I am of Polish ethnic origin and a Nottingham lad born and bred.

Best Andy Richter Moments
Conan O'Brien

Countdown to 'Conan': Get ready for Conan O'Brien's TBS talk show debut on Nov. 8

Andy Richter never meant to become a sidekick.

When Conan O'Brien took over 'Late Night,' head writer Robert Smigel hired Richter to be a writer. But in the weeks leading up to the new show's premiere, it became obvious O'Brien was nervous on camera (it was actually obvious the first few seasons), so Smigel told Richter to go on stage during a practice run-through, just to calm the host down. Their rapport was so strong Richter became the permanent sidekick.

Seven years later, Richter left 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien' on good terms to pursue acting. His exit gave us the cult favorites 'Andy Richter Controls The Universe' and 'Andy Barker, P.I.', but we missed his quick, deadpan one-liners and ability to play O'Brien's folly. He...

Conan O'Brien to Get to the Bottom of Things | Andy Richter joins Conan
After countless promos (I would give Godtopus' right-most tentacle to be that desk) and viral marketing gimmicks, Conan O'Brien's new show on TBS looks to be amazing, except for one lingering doubt. What about poor, lovable Andy Richter? He's probably lying in a cold apartment somewhere in the Greater La Area, covered from the knees up in pizza grease and canned chili, cursing his black and white television over the loss of The Tonight Show. All our fears have been allayed, however, with the latest press release from TBS.

Andy Richter to Return in Conan

Longtime O'Brien Collaborator Will Join Conan on TBS Beginning Nov. 8

One of the longest running teams in late-night television will again take the stage together as Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter join forces on Conan, which premieres Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 p.m. (Et/Pt) on TBS.

'Conan' officially welcomes Andy Richter back for new TBS talk show
It's not like anyone had any doubts, right? At any rate, it's official: Andy Richter will be hitting the couch once again on Conan O'Brien's new TBS talk show, "Conan."

"I'm thrilled to be going back to work with Conan," Richter says. "And very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS. However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again."

The actor and writer joined O'Brien for late-night tomfoolery in 1993 and he has been warming the cushions ever since as they rode the NBC talk show rollercoaster together. He has also appeared in several films and TV shows, including "Scary Movie 2," "Talladega Nights," his own Fox show, "Andy Richter Controls the Universe," and NBC's "Andy Barker, P.I."

Conan is apparently very excited to spark up the bromance again. "This decision was made without my authority," he says. "I will get to the bottom of this.

Andy Richter Joining Conan O’Brien’s Show on TBS
Late night talk show host Conan O’Brien and comedian Andy Richter have been working together intermittently since 1993. Though it had always been assumed that wherever Conan landed after leaving NBC in a huff, Richter wouldn’t be far behind. Well today TBS announce (via press release) that the longtime duo will be together again for Conan, the new late night show premiering on November 8th at 11/10c on TBS. Always making with the funny Richter said, “I’m thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS. However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again.” Conan followed suit by saying, “This decision was made without my authority. I will get to the bottom of this.” I know I can’t wait for Conan’s return with Andy at his side. How about you?...

Andy Richter Returns to Conan
Andy Richter returns as Conan's sidekick One of the longest running teams in late-night television will again take the stage together as Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter join forces on Conan, which premieres Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 p.m. (Et/Pt) on TBS.

A collaboration that began Sept. 13, 1993, O'Brien and Richter have developed a comedic chemistry that few performers have achieved. Through two late-night franchises and the recently concluded The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour, Richter has been a consistent asset to O'Brien.

Andy Richter stated, "I'm thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS. However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again."

Conan O'Brien added, "This decision was made without my authority. I will get to the bottom of this."

Andy Richter Officially Joining Conan
Conan O’Brien’s right-hand funnyman, Andy Richter, will join Conan when the late-night talk show premiers Nov. 8th on TBS. Getting his start on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Andy Richter quickly gained fame for his comedic chemistry as O’Brien’s sidekick. After leaving the show in 2000, he went on to star in his own Emmy-nominated series, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, on Fox. After another stint on television (Andy Barker, P.I.) and several film roles (Elf, Talladega Nights), Richter once again re-teamed with O’Brien, when he took over hosting duties on The Tonight Show for a very brief tenure. Richter stated: “I’m thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS. However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house...

Donny Osmond in Pyramid (2002)
Andy Richter might host new 'Pyramid': It's not another sitcom, but we'll take it
Donny Osmond in Pyramid (2002)
Conan O’Brien is headed for basic cable on TBS, but his old sidekick is likely keeping it old-school at CBS. The L.A. Times reports that Andy Richter is currently “sealing a deal” to host a new version of Pyramid, the game show Dick Clark used to host in the ’70s. (Apparently, Donny Osmond hosted a previous Pyramid reboot in 2002-04…. Must have missed that.)

According to the Times, Richter wasn’t exactly CBS’ first choice: “Last year, there were two pilots made, one with Dean Cain as host, the other with Tim Vincent, and neither got off the ground.

TBS Special from Andy Richter and Conan O’Brien Writers Will Air June 27th
Conan O’Brien is passing time until the November 8 premiere of his new TBS show with the 30-city Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour, but you won’t have to wait until then to see his influence on the cable network. Andy Richter, live show opener Reggie Watts, and a bevy of Conan writers will tape a special tentatively titled Team Coco Presents Conan’s Writers Live in Chicago on June 17th, which TBS will air a week and a half later on June 27th. I believe that Conan’s legal obligations will preclude an appearance, but a night of comedy from the men who help make him funny is a delightful consolation process. For you Chicagoans, tickets for the Bank of America Theater event go on sale Friday May 28th at 10:00 Am.

NBC Cancels Heroes, Trauma, Mercy, Officially Picks Up Chuck, The Cape, Outlaw, Harry’S Law, Friends With Benefits
There’s been plenty of speculation, but now it’s official: Heroes is cancelled. The Live Feed reports that the ratings simply sunk too low to justify the budget, though fans may hold out hope that NBC is considering a “special or movie” to wrap up loose storylines. Likewise, NBC has no use for the low-rated freshman medical dramas Mercy and Trauma, so neither will get a second season.

On the flip side, NBC officially renewed Chuck for a fourth season(!) and picked up four new series: the superhero-centric The Cape, retitled legal dramas Outlaw (formerly titled Garza) and Harry’s Law (formerly titled Kindreds), and twenty-something singles comedy Friends With Benefits. Check out a press release with all the details after the jump.
