Huntington Beach Officials Working To Ban Mask And Covid Vaccine Mandates
Image
A divided Huntington Beach City Council voted Wednesday to seek a ban on universal mask and Covid vaccine mandates in the city.

The motion passed with a 4-3 vote during a marathon meeting that ended at 2:48 a.m.

Under the city’s action, people who have tested positive for Covid would still be required to wear masks in certain settings.

Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van Der Mark introduced the motion at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The council voted to direct the city manager to work with the city attorney on language for a resolution, said Councilman Dan Kalmick, who voted against the motion.

In the motion, Van Der Mark said mask mandates imposed at City Hall and other parts of the city in 2020 and 2021 “unnecessarily limited the freedoms of the citizens of Huntington Beach — even those who were not around anyone who tested positive for Covid-19 or at risk of any exposure.

Dennis Hopper’s Controversial 1980 Masterpiece Out Of The Blue Getting a 4K Restoration and Theatrical Release
Image
“Subvert normality. Punk is not sexual, it’s just aggression. Destroy. Kill All Hippies. I’m not talking at you, I’m talking to you. Anarchy. Disco sucks. I don’t wanna hear about you, I wanna hear from you. This is Gorgeous. Does anybody outthere read me? Disco sucks, kill all hippies. Pretty vacant, eh? Subvert normality. Signing off. This is Gorgeous. Signing off.”

“Thumbs Up! Bitter, unforgettable. An unsung treasure.” – Roger Ebert

Shocking. Controversial. Unforgettable. – Dennis Hopper’s brilliant punk rock masterpiece of adolescent rebellion is ready for a new, long overdue close-up!

A kind of spiritual sequel (and cautionary counterpoint) to Hopper’s own Easy Rider, Out Of The Blue chronicles the idealism of the sixties decline into the hazy nihilism of the 1980’s. Here’s a new trailer for the restoration:

Don Barnes (Dennis Hopper) is a truck driver in prison for drunkenly smashing his rig into a school bus.

Dennis Hopper’s Out of the Blue Sets Theatrical Release with 4K Restoration Trailer
Image
Dennis Hopper’s 1980 drama Out of the Blue, in which he stars alongside Linda Manz, has been restored in 4K from the two 35mm prints left in existence. Backed by John Alan Simon and Elizabeth Karr of Discovery Productions, Inc., the new restoration premiered back at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, but with the pandemic, the wait has been a long one to see it on the big screen. Now, it’ll finally arrive theatrically at NYC’s Metrograph this month and the new trailer has debuted.

In the film, Don Barnes (Dennis Hopper) is a truck driver in prison for drunkenly smashing his rig into a school bus. Linda Manz (Days of Heaven) plays Cebe, his daughter, a teen rebel obsessed with Elvis and The Sex Pistols. Her mother (Sharon Farrell) waitresses, shoots up drugs and takes refuge in the arms of other men. Cebe runs away to Vancouver’s...

California Governor Gavin Newsom Issues Limited Stay-At-Home Order Through December 21; “We Are Sounding The Alarm”
Image
In light of an unprecedented, rapid rise in Covid-19 cases across California, Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced a limited Stay-at-Home Order. The order requires “generally that non-essential work, movement and gatherings stop between 10 Pm and 5 Am in counties in the purple tier.” That means basically every county in Southern California and 94% of the state’s population (see map below).

Due to the rise in #COVID19 cases, CA is issuing a limited Stay at Home Order.

Non-essential work and gatherings must stop from 10pm-5am in counties in the purple tier.

This will take effect at 10pm on Saturday and remain for 1 month.

Together–we can flatten the curve again.

— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) November 19, 2020

Said Newsom in a statement: “This is the same as the March Stay at Home Order, but applied only between 10 Pm and 5 Am and only in purple tier counties that are seeing the highest rates of positive cases and hospitalizations.

Amid Large Public Protests Over Beach Closures, California Gov. Gavin Newsom Says, “Meaningful” Changes Are Close At Hand
Image
In the 24 hours since California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all beaches in Orange County closed, there have been two lawsuits filed by the cities of Huntington Beach and Dana Point; the O.C. Sheriff said he will not enforce the order; and, now, large protests have begun adjacent to the Huntington Beach Pier and near the Capitol Building in Sacramento.
