Flabber From Big Bad Beetleborgs Character Explained
Image
Flabber is a phantasm trapped in a pipe organ in Hillhurst Mansion, but he becomes a key character when the kids release him and he grants them their wish to become Beetleborgs. Flabber is a kind and quirky character who helps the Beetleborgs by giving them advice and guidance on defeating monsters. His spells often backfire, but his unorthodox style and potent strength make him a unique and memorable addition to the show. The original design for Flabber looked very different, with carrot-orange hair, a protruding nose, and an oversized striped blazer. However, the changes made to his appearance in Big Bad Beetleborgs were well-received by both the audience and the studio.

Flabber (Billy Forester) is one of the main characters of Big Bad Beetleborgs, the Fox Kids live-action superhero series. Premiering in 1996, Big Bad Beetleborgs was one of the many Power Rangers-like superhero shows that's often forgotten amidst...

Lost Big Bad Beetleborgs Pilot Would Have Ditched The Horrifying Flabber
Image
If there’s any show that took a heavy dose of inspiration from Power Rangers back in the ‘90s and still brings back fond(ish) memories, it’s without question Big Bad Beetleborgs. Premiering in 1996 on Fox Kids and running two seasons, the show was another hybrid of stock Japanese action footage and original American shot scenes. The series memorably featured not only a cast of kid heroes who’d transform into the titular Beetleborgs but also a gang of horror movie monsters that provided comic relief. This included the character of Flabber, who can only be described as the ghost of Jay Leno if he was turned into a Blue Meanie from Yellow Submarine. Even if people don’t remember the Beetleborgs themselves, they always remember that strange character … perhaps have nightmares of him.

But there was very nearly a different version of Beetleborgs, one that featured some stark...

Mon. March. 15 Nine Female Filmmakers Chosen For Future Directors of Studio Features Initiative

Nine female filmmakers have been selected to participate in the inaugural Future Directors of Studio Features Initiative.

Blackmagic Design announced the initiative, which is designed to elevate and polish undiscovered and underrepresented female-identifying storytellers who are poised to make the transition to feature directing. The fellows – each with a strong body of work, distinctive style and clear voice – were professionally recommended and vetted.

As the anticipated new faces of feature film directing, fellows will meet with industry mentors, advisors and studio partners to prepare their portfolios, amplify their creative brand and learn how to navigate studio-level feature production.

Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”), who is a mentor for the program, shared “It’s so fun to be an Fdsf advisor this year – not only to meet more and more women storytellers, but also to watch them thrive!”

“The women...

‘Imposters’ Alum Adam Korson To Star In Indie Creature Feature ‘The Stairs’
Adam Korson
Exclusive: Things are about to get creepy and terrifying for Adam Korson. The alum from Bravo’s Imposters is set to lead the indie creature feature The Stairs from director Peter “Drago” Tiemann. The movie is currently shooting in Seattle.

Co-written by Tiemann & Jason Lowe, the film starts in 1997 when 11-year-old Jesse and Grandpa Gene go on a hunting trip deep in the woods. While tracking a deer, Jesse and Gene are separated. As the shadows of the forest grow deeper, Gene finds the deer and Jesse finds something only a little boy’s nightmares are made of.
