Alan Ritchson has become a fan-favorite when it comes to his role as Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series based on the novels of Lee Child. That means audiences are waiting to lap up his other action offerings, which include his new adrenaline-pumped thriller, Runner, which is currently filming. Sharing a new look at the movie in a behind-the-scenes shot, Ritchson revealed that he has been “exhausted” with the demanding shoot.
Having previously appeared in several big action movies, including Fast X, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and The Expendables 4, Ritchson’s new movie sees him reteam with the latter movie’s director, Scott Waugh, and expectations are already high that Runner will be another huge action blockbuster for the star. If there's anyone that doesn't need saving, it's Rambo. But even Sylvester Stallone's nigh-on invincible action hero needs a helping hand from time to time — especially when his movie flops with critics. Enter: Netflix. The king of the streamers has extended its own muscular arm to John J. Rambo, making for the streaming version of that "epic handshake" meme. That is to say, the streamer has given "Rambo: Last Blood" a small reprieve following a devastating critical response upon its 2019 debut.
Back in the mid to late 2000s, Stallone returned to his two best-known characters, giving Rocky a heartfelt and surprisingly solid legacy sequel in 2006's "Rocky Balboa." Given how these legacy sequels typically go, it was an impressive feat for Stallone to have pulled off, especially since critics were mostly complimentary of the movie. He followed it up with yet another revisit, this time to the world of John Rambo.

One of the most divisive action movies in the repertoire of Hollywood icon (and now a so-called "Special Ambassador" tasked with saving the industry) Sylvester Stallone is climbing the charts on Netflix. Released back in 2019, Stallone leads the final outing for one of his most beloved characters, John Rambo, in Rambo: Last Blood, which finds the hero battling a cartel after someone close to him is kidnapped.
Rambo: Last Blood is now #7 on the Netflix chart, just behind the likes of other action outings Miss Congeniality, Rogue Agent, and the Die Hard-esque Aftermath, which holds the top spot. Directed by Adrian Grünberg from a screenplay co-written by Matthew Cirulnick and Sylvester Stallone, Last Blood stars Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adriana Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquín Cosío, and Óscar Jaenada alongside Stallone. You can check out the official synopsis below.

Released in 2023, Blue Beetle serves as one of the final entries in the much-maligned Dceu. However, the fan-favorite superhero is already set to return in James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe, and for good reason. A standalone coming-of-age origin story, Blue Beetle impressed critics and audiences alike with its lovable protagonist, led by Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña. Fortunately, it's never been easier to catch up on the DC film, as it's now streaming for free on Tubi.
Blue Beetle is now available to stream at no cost with ads on Tubi starting Feb. 1. The film follows Jaime Reyes (Maridueña), a young college graduate who is imbued with superpowers when he comes into contact with an alien relic, the Scarab. Guided by a Jarvis-like voice, Jaime has the ability to create any kind of weapon he can imagine (sort of like Green Lantern), as well as flight. The first live-action...

Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his Blue Beetle role in an animated series from DC Studios.
The Cobra Kai actor recently teased what it means to continue telling the story of Jaime Reyes, the DC Comics superhero he played in the 2023 film.
“There’s only one Blue Beetle,” Maridueña said in an interview with Hablemos de Cine about voicing the Latino superhero in the upcoming animated series.
He continued, “I’m so excited to get to continue the story of Jaime is an honor and I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime.”
Earlier this year, Deadline broke the news that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios were working on an animated series based on Blue Beetle. Miguel Paga would serve as director and showrunner, and Cristian Martinez would serve as writer.

Rambo: Last Blood is getting a free streaming home. The movie, which is the final installment of Sylvester Stallone's Rambo movie series, will start streaming for free on Tubi on Oct. 1.
Released in theaters in 2019, Rambo: Last Blood was directed by Adrian Grnberg. The film brings back Stallone for the fifth and likely last-ever time he'll star as the iconic John Rambo character. There is a lot of truth to the belief that a movie's ending can and will make or break it. Even the best stories and spectacles shown on the big screen had their legacies ruined in real time because of a questionable or even downright terrible conclusion. The opposite is true for movies that most would consider mediocre or even horrible. Thanks to either an undeniably exciting final fight or a surprisingly compelling and effective narrative endgame, these otherwise lackluster movies were saved from mockery and obscurity. Some even went on to become genuine cult classics.
The only thing more important than these movie endings being fun and emotionally satisfying in a vacuum was how they made up for everything that happened before. Whether it was due to a slow start or an apparent adherence to formula, these movies had rocky starts but, thankfully, ended on high notes. Because of this,...

French actor Jean Reno and Mexican actress Adriana Barraza star in the true story of a Brazilian man who nurses a penguin back to health, who then repays him by visiting him every year, traveling 5000 miles from his habitat to see his human friend. My Penguin Friend is a joyous, moving, sweet-natured film suitable for the whole family.

A heartwarming tale of friendship between a lost penguin and a lonely fisherman touches on themes of the transformational power of friendship and love and what it takes to move on. Jean Reno shines in his role as a curmudgeonly fisherman who finds new purpose through his bond with the penguin. A delightful, emotional journey, My Penguin Friend may be too slow and saccharine for some people, but is an uplifting animal movie for the whole family.
Themes of compassion, courage, universal love, and rare friendships are sewn into the creative fabric of My Penguin Friend. Think of it as a bird out of water tale: An adorable, lost penguin finds himself far away from home only to bond with a humble fisherman named Joao (Jean Reno of Ronin and Mission: Impossible). The two hit it off, but both must move on with their lives. In doing so, they may lose each other.

This ecologically conscious family film tells the heartwarming true story of an unlikely bond formed between a fisherman and a wayward penguin – a bond that would transcend borders, both physical and metaphorical.
My Penguin Friend movie follows the real-life account of João, a simple yet solitary man living in coastal Brazil who rescues an injured Magellanic penguin after a chance encounter in the waters off Ilha Grande. Named “DinDim” by one of the local children, this intrepid bird would proceed to develop a deep affinity for João, returning annually across thousands of miles of open ocean just to spend time in his company.
Director David Schurmann spins this tale of interspecies compassion with a keen eye towards authenticity, opting to feature live penguin performers over digital alternatives. While clearly aimed at younger viewers, the film casts its net wider by subtly weaving in environmentalist undercurrents around overfishing, oil spills, and climate change.

The movie tackles grief with expected penguin antics. Emotional performances elevate the Homeward Bound-like story. Unnecessary subplot impacts pacing and viewer engagement.
Based on a heartwarming true story, My Penguin Friend (2024) promises both laughs and a good cry for the whole family. However, like the movie's animal star, the film doesnt quite soar, but it does manage to hit all the notes associated with this kind of inspirational, family-friendly fare. After all, its hard not to be delighted by the real-life inspiration for David Schurmanns feature. As the closing text reveals, a lost penguin, who really was named DinDim by those who met him, swam over 5,000 miles, from Patagonia to Brazil, for eight years.

It’s been a few decades since last we saw Jean Reno playing a withdrawn curmudgeon protecting a pint-sized charge in “The Professional.” Now, with director David Schurmann’s “My Penguin Friend,” it’s a welcome return to a winning formula.
In the Brazilian filmmaker’s tender-hearted, all-ages adventure, Reno plays a grief-stricken father who gains a small, sweet companion after rescuing him from polluted waters. Inspired by the unshakeable bond between a real-life Brazilian fisherman and a Magellanic penguin thrown off his migration route, the French actor reveals new colors as a performer, shading the picture’s playful and poignant overtones with sensitivity and subtlety, making this a must-see for those who love uplifting stories about redemption, perseverance and empathy.
Reno plays João, whose journey began long before his penguin pal’s arrival, when his cozy, beachside home in Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, was filled with love, music and laughter.

Dios mio! Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are scuttling toward expanding the reach of Blue Beetle with a new animated series. Miguel Puga has been working on the Blue Beetle animated series since early 2024 and will act as the project’s showrunner and director, with Cristian Martinez writing the scripts.
Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the top talent behind DC’s 2023 film, return for the Blue Beetle animated series as executive producers alongside John Richard. Galen Vaisman, who helped executive produce the movie, oversees the animated adaptation. Casting for the project remains a mystery, though Deadline says DC is in contact with multiple stars from the live-action film. Although deals still need to be implemented, their response was positive.
The Blue Beetle animated series continues the story started in Soto’s live-action film. If audiences connect with the animated series, DC could continue the story in a new live-action sequel.

Sylvester Stallone's "Rambo" movies might not be as beloved as his "Rocky" films, but they've had just as fascinating a trajectory. What's more, they've been incredibly influential in the history of action movies, charting the general evolution of the genre across four decades. If you want to get an insight into the state of action filmmaking at a certain time, "Rambo" films are a good gauge.
"First Blood," the inaugural "Rambo" film, was noteworthy for blending what are now well-known action tropes with an attempt at exploring the very real issue of Ptsd in the context of the Vietnam War. Stallone's John J. Rambo was introduced as a former United States Army Special Forces officer who despite his preternatural combat skills was haunted by his experiences overseas. Following that, the character of Rambo underwent somewhat of a transformation throughout the '80s, becoming the epitome of the muscle-bound,...

‘Drag Me to Hell’ – New Australian Blu-ray Celebrates 15 Years of Sam Raimi’s Horror Return [Review]
Of all the masters of horror that helped to reshape the genre as we know it in the ’70s and ’80s, none were more successful in branching out and achieving commercial success within the studio system than Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy laid the groundwork for the influx of comic book movies that would follow, but he was eager to return to his roots following the third installment’s turbulent production.
Armed with $30 million and complete creative control, Raimi dusted off a story he wrote with elder brother and frequent collaborator Ivan Raimi back in the ’90s to make his triumphant return to horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. The Raimi broters seemingly drew inspiration from 1957’s Night of the Demon but injected it with a heavy dose of Evil Dead DNA, most closely evoking Evil Dead 2‘s cartoonish blend of over-the-top splatter and tongue-in-cheek humor.

Although Cruise has starred in movies from different genres since then, such as horror with Interview with the Vampire, psychological drama with Eyes Wide Shut, and period drama with The Last Samurai, Cruise is best known for his action roles.

It was reported yesterday that Tom Cruise was looking to return to more serious, dramatic fare with an award-winning director, and Alejandro Iñárritu certainly fits the bill.
