The king of the streamers has extended its own muscular arm to John J. Rambo, making for the streaming version of that "epic handshake" meme. That is to say, the streamer has given "Rambo: Last Blood" a small reprieve following a devastating critical response upon its 2019 debut.

Back in the mid to late 2000s, Stallone returned to his two best-known characters, giving Rocky a heartfelt and surprisingly solid legacy sequel in 2006's "Rocky Balboa." Given how these legacy sequels typically go, it was an impressive feat for Stallone to have pulled off, especially since critics were mostly complimentary of the movie. He followed it up with yet another revisit, this time to the world of John Rambo.

The 2024 International Emmy Awards took place Monday night in New York, honoring the finest shows made outside of the United States, with nominees coming from 21 countries, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The night’s big winners were Apple TV+’s French-Japanese anime adaptation “Drops of God,” which won best drama series; Netflix’s Argentinian satire “División Palermo” winning best comedy series; Netflix’s German thriller “Liebes Kind” winning best limited series; Timothy Spall, who won best actor for the BBC’s crime drama “The Sixth Commandment;” and Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying, who won best actress for Netflix’s Thai chef drama “Hunger.”

Two honorary awards were given out during the ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Vir Das. The best in global television was honored in New York on Monday night at the 2024 International Emmy Awards, with winners picked across nominees from 21 countries.

The big winners on the night were Drops of God winning best drama series, Timothy Spall winning best actor, Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying winning best actress, División Palermo winning best comedy and Liebes Kind winning best miniseries.

In the best drama category, Apple TV+’s French-American-Japanese manga adaptation Drops of God, produced by Legendary Television, won out against 1980s-set Australian series The Newsreader; the Amazon Prime Video Argentina espionage thriller Yosi, the Regretful Spy; and the Disney+/Hotstar series The Night Manager, an Indian adaptation of the 2016 BBC show of the same name.

British acting legend Timothy Spall went into the ceremony as favorite in the best actor category, nominated for his turn in the BBC true-crime tale The Sixth Commandment, and duly walked away with the award.

French-Japanese drama series “Les Gouttes de Dieu [Drops of God],” Argentinian comedy series “División Palermo” and actor Timothy Spall were among the winners at the 52nd annual International Emmy Awards.

Hosted by stand-up comedian Vir Das, the ceremony took place Monday at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel. This year, 21 countries were represented across 14 categories and 56 nominees.

During the evening, French actor Omar Sy presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Gaumont CEO Sidonie Dumas, while writer and producer David E. Kelley received the International Emmys Founder Award from Michael Pressman.

Streaming giants are a force to be reckoned with in the race for the 52nd International Emmys, organized by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as they approach the awards on Nov. 25 in New York.

Nominees for drama series include Season 2 of Prime Video’s Argentine thriller “Yosi, the Regretful Spy,” based on the real story of an Argentine police agent who infiltrates a Jewish community. Also nominated is Disney+ Hotstar’s Indian remake of BBC/AMC’s John le Carré adaptation “The Night Manager,” about a corrupt and dangerous arms dealer.

They compete alongside Apple TV+’s “Drops of God,” adapted from a manga series, about the estranged daughter of a French wine expert who must compete with her father’s Japanese protégé in a series of tests; and Season 2 of Prime Video’s “The Newsreader,” about the cut-throat world of Australian news media in the 1980s.

Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his Blue Beetle role in an animated series from DC Studios.

The Cobra Kai actor recently teased what it means to continue telling the story of Jaime Reyes, the DC Comics superhero he played in the 2023 film.

“There’s only one Blue Beetle,” Maridueña said in an interview with Hablemos de Cine about voicing the Latino superhero in the upcoming animated series.

He continued, “I’m so excited to get to continue the story of Jaime is an honor and I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime.”

Earlier this year, Deadline broke the news that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios were working on an animated series based on Blue Beetle. Miguel Paga would serve as director and showrunner, and Cristian Martinez would serve as writer.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Tom Cruise will be starring in the new film from director Alejandro Iñárritu for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, with this being Iñárritu’s first English language movie since The Revenant, which hit theatres back in 2015. Now Deadline has revealed the names of six of Cruise’s co-stars, breaking the news that he has been joined in the cast by John Goodman (The Big Lebowski), Jesse Plemons (Civil War), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), and Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name), with Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) in final negotiations to join in as well. Details on the characters they’ll be playing are being kept under wraps.

This will be Cruise’s first time working with all of these actors except for Plemons. Cruise and Plemons were in the 2017 film American Made together.

Based on a heartwarming true story, My Penguin Friend (2024) promises both laughs and a good cry for the whole family. However, like the movie's animal star, the film doesnt quite soar, but it does manage to hit all the notes associated with this kind of inspirational, family-friendly fare. After all, its hard not to be delighted by the real-life inspiration for David Schurmanns feature. As the closing text reveals, a lost penguin, who really was named DinDim by those who met him, swam over 5,000 miles, from Patagonia to Brazil, for eight years.

Dios mio! Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are scuttling toward expanding the reach of Blue Beetle with a new animated series. Miguel Puga has been working on the Blue Beetle animated series since early 2024 and will act as the project’s showrunner and director, with Cristian Martinez writing the scripts.

Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the top talent behind DC’s 2023 film, return for the Blue Beetle animated series as executive producers alongside John Richard. Galen Vaisman, who helped executive produce the movie, oversees the animated adaptation. Casting for the project remains a mystery, though Deadline says DC is in contact with multiple stars from the live-action film. Although deals still need to be implemented, their response was positive.

The Blue Beetle animated series continues the story started in Soto’s live-action film. If audiences connect with the animated series, DC could continue the story in a new live-action sequel.

British filmmaker Sally Potter has set plans to re-release her 2009 feature Rage, starring Riz Ahmed, Lily Cole, Jude Law, and Judi Dench, as a series of posts on Instagram, to mark the film’s 15th anniversary.

Potter has said the movie will unravel over several “real-time” posts across seven days, starting February 23.

The film also stars Patrick J Adams, Jacob Cedergren, John Leguizamo, Eddie Izzard, David Oyelowo, Dianne Wiest, Steve Buscemi, Adriana Barraza, Simon Abkarian and Bob Balaban. The original concept in 2009 was for the film to be watched on smartphones. The synopsis reads: Michelangelo, an unseen schoolboy armed only with a mobile phone, goes behind the scenes at a New York fashion show for seven days in which an accident on the catwalk turns into a murder investigation, and his interviews with key players become a bitterly funny expose of an industry in crisis.

Sally Potter is taking her “Rage” to Instagram. IndieWire can exclusively reveal that the lauded British filmmaker will release her iconic 2009 film in a series of Instagram posts beginning on February 23.

“Rage” was the first full-length feature film specifically designed to be watched on mobile phones. Shot in a vertical format as a series of to-camera monologues, the Instagram release will feature a new shot being posted daily, leading up to the March 8 theatrical release from Abramorama to mark the 15th anniversary of the film’s Berlinale debut. “Rage” will screen with anniversary theatrical and non-theatrical engagements across North America and land on a Direct-to-Consumer digital and VOD placements later.

A mysterious miracle is at the heart of this absorbing and superbly acted film from the Italian director Andrea Pallaoro, which refuses the cliched “issue movie” beats of confrontation, catharsis and resolution. Like his previous work Hannah, which starred Charlotte Rampling as the haunted, troubled woman of that name, Monica is marked by its cool compositional rigour: scenes from a life are evoked with studied, often wordless vignettes and middle-distance shots from fixed camera positions, combined occasionally with looming, asymmetrical closeups.

Blue Beetle released as part of a series of DC movies with lackluster box office results, raising questions about its future in the DC Universe. The movie introduces Jaime Reyes, the third generation of Blue Beetle, who discovers an alien artifact and becomes a young hero facing conflicts with antagonist Victoria Kord and villain Carapax. It seems that “Blue Beetle” has come full circle. The superhero movie was originally slated as an HBO Max (now simply known as Max) streaming release, but then moved to a theatrical run during development. And while it was a box office disappointment — despite getting the top spot during its opening weekend in early August — “Blue Beetle” might find more of an audience when it’s released on digital on September 26.

‘Blue Beetle,’ the latest and second-to-last Dceu movie, was released last August, and as it was anticipated, the movie didn’t really do well at the box office. Despite positive reviews from critics and audiences (78% on Tomatometer and 92% on Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes), the movie grossed only $120 million worldwide, which makes it the lowest-grossing Dceu movie ever, falling behind this year’s ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods,’ which grossed only $133 million.

Xolo Maridueña’s debut as the Blue Beetle received favorable criticism, and we can’t blame the movie for its commercial failure. It’s a fact that this movie was released at the worst possible time, and with everything going on around DC Studios and the ongoing strikes, this movie was never given a chance to succeed.
