In Season 2's third episode, "Over the Hill with the Sword of a Thousand Men," Chace Crawford's The Deep chases Billy Butcher and his titular team's Yatch down riding a whale. The Boys showrunner, Eric Kripke, disputes claims that the hit Prime Video series has gone woke, saying it's the world that has changed to match the series. Despite its comical setting with evil superheroes, The Boys has always been a scathing satire of the American commercial system. Later seasons saw the show get political, as Homelander (Antony Starr) made a play for the White House in Season 4. Fans criticized the series for being too on the nose with its satire in Season 4, but Eric Kripke never could have predicted just how accurate the show's reflection of reality would be.

Speaking to Variety, Eric Kripke discussed how The Boys became one of the most relevant superhero shows around. Unlike the McU's Falcon and the Winter Soldier, whose social lesson boils down to "do politics better," The Boys takes a multi-faceted approach, dissecting several elements of the American political and capitalistic system.

The Boys season 5 gets a new update, with creator Eric Kripke unveiling an intriguing title for episode 1. First released on Prime Video in 2019, the hit superhero satire has become one of the streamer's most popular offerings. After the release of season 4 earlier this year, which continues Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) bloody quest for vengeance against Homelander (Antony Starr), The Boys season 5 is confirmed to bring the show to an end, with production getting underway in Toronto this month.

Kripke now takes to X, formerly Twitter, to share an image of the script title page for The Boys season 5, episode 1, revealing the title to be "Fifteen Inches Of Sheer Dynamite." The title page also confirms that episode 1 was penned by Paul Grellong and directed by Phil Sgriccia, both of whom are also executive producers on the show. The Boys Season 5 may be the last time audiences will see the anti-Supes task force, but that doesn't mean the mature-rated universe will be ending anytime soon. After the fifth and final season, Vought Rising tells the story behind the infamous company's foundation, starring Aya Cash and Jensen Ackles, reprising their roles as Stormfront and Soldier Boy, respectively. They won't be alone, however, as a new Supe has been cast in the fifth and final season of The Boys, as well as its Vought-centric spinoff.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reports that Mason Dye, who previously appeared in Stranger Things, has been added to The Boys universe as Bombsight. The character is the third-oldest active Supe, just behind Stormfront and Soldier Boy, who started their careers in the 1950s. Although Dye is reportedly only a guest star in The Boys Season 5, he will have a recurring role in the prequel Vought Rising.

The Boys season 5 adds a new actor to its cast, as a Stranger Things star joins as a new Supe. Created by Eric Kripke, Prime Video's hit superhero parody show returned for season 4 earlier this year, continuing Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) quest for vengeance against Homelander (Antony Starr) and Vought. Exclusive: BET+ has picked up darkly comedic drama series Average Joe, headlined by Deon Cole, for a second season.

Created by Robb Cullen, Average Joe was released June 26, 2023 to strong reviews (86% on Rotten Tomatoes), quickly becoming the #1 scripted drama series on BET+ in its debut week.

Season 2 is slated to begin production in late 2024 in South Africa. In an unusual move for an ongoing original series on another streamer, Season 1 of Average Joe will be made available on Netflix this summer, sources said. That would give the comedic drama exposure and raise awareness ahead of its second season on BET+.

Inspired by Cullen’s life, Average Joe is set in “The Hill” district of Pittsburgh. The Motion Picture & Television Fund’s second annual Lights, Camera, Take Action! Caring for Hollywood’s Crews telethon exceeded its fundraising goal by raising $786,512 on Saturday night, the nonprofit said.

The telethon, co-hosted and co-produced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Tom Bergeron, aired live on Ktla in Los Angeles, aiming to raise relief funds for entertainment industry members impacted by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes this year.

It had set a goal of raising $750,000 this year after raising $865,000 a year ago.

“To Kill a Mockingbird?” Emma, who is played by Clark Backo, said in the clip titled “What a Day,” which you can watch above, released Thursday exclusively via TheWrap.

The scene in the clip began with Apollo coming home and seeing Emma holding their son Brian. Apollo, book dealer, showed Emma his latest find.

“That’s right, a true first edition, original cover. It’s in pristine condition — not a scratch,” Apollo responded. “Now, a book like that could get us… $10,000.”

According to rudimentary Googling, Apple has a generally well-regarded parental leave policy. But according to the output at Apple TV+, there is anxiety in the water in Cupertino (or in the company’s Los Angeles offices).

Dropping this Friday, The Changeling is the second Apple TV+ series in five years blending fairy tale and horror to delve into maternal and paternal anxieties about nature, nurture and the price paid when parents are forced to leave babies behind to return to work.

Perhaps not as bluntly effective as Servant, The Changeling is an admirably ambitious series, especially on thematic levels, where it seems to be bursting with commentary on 21st century parenting. As storytelling, though, Kelly Marcel’s adaptation of Victor Lavalle’s novel is a mess. Though the series isn’t lurching through time and frames of reality without intent, its refusal to build any sort of momentum becomes increasingly frustrating.
