Veniamin Basner is a Soviet and Russian composer, author of songs and film music. People's Artist of the Russian SFSR. He graduated from the Children's Music School in Yaroslavl, majoring in violin. The very first big musical impression in his life was the performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony in Yaroslavl in 1938. Later, he had a long-standing friendship with Dmitriy Shostakovich, which had a significant influence on Basner's work.
In 1942, after graduating from the Yaroslavl College of Music, Basner was invited to the Yaroslavl Philharmonic as a soloist, but a year later he was drafted into the army, where he served in a military orchestra as an arranger and also repaired musical instruments. In 1944, Basner was demobilized and entered the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in violin and composition. After graduating from the conservatory in 1949, he began performing as a soloist and orchestral musician. The composer composed a lot, and his operettas, war songs, and film music brought him the greatest fame.
