The Only Thing ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Needs More of Is Christopher McDonald
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers.

Happy Gilmore 2 is, among other things, a chosen-family reunion. Virtually every living star from the original makes it into the sequel. Even those who’ve died still make their presence felt, either because we meet their descendants (as with characters played by Joe Flaherty and Richard Kiel), or because they’ve been buried in the same cemetery, or both (Carl Weathers). It’s nice that everyone got to hang out again, but dozens of characters, old and new, have to compete so hard for screen time that I didn’t get nearly enough Christopher McDonald.

If you pay even a little attention to screen performers, you probably have an unofficial list of the character actors you’re consistently delighted to see pop up in a show or film. By the time McDonald showed up in Happy Gilmore, he was a firm favorite for me from his...

Happy Gilmore 2 Review: Adam Sandler is back on the green in the long-awaited sequel
Image
Plot: Twenty-nine years after winning his first Tour Championship, retired golfer Happy Gilmore returns to the sport to pay for his daughter Vienna’s ballet school.

Review (Warning: contains mild spoilers): When Happy Gilmore hit theaters in 1996, I was a dumb high schooler who had loved the idiocy of Adam Sandler’s Billy Madison and hoped for more of the sophomoric shenanigans that film delivered. Reteaming with Billy Madison co-writer Tim Herlihy, Happy Gilmore was a hilariously stupid sports movie with Sandler’s trademark yelling and bizarre jokes wrapped in an underdog tale. Naming his production company after his first two hit films, Adam Sandler has gone on to make dozens of similar movies interspersed with acclaimed movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. After three decades, Sandler and Herlihy have returned to give audiences the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2, which replicates the heartfelt stupidity of the original movie...

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Review: Adam Sandler’s Unpredictable Golfer Takes Nostalgia in a Different Direction
Image
It’s no surprise that Kyle Newacheck’s much-anticipated sequel to Dennis Dugan’s early Adam Sandler comedy classic “Happy Gilmore” opens on something of a down beat. After all, every good comeback story — a designation by which “Happy Gilmore 2” definitely qualifies — has to find our hero at some sort of crossroads, but damn if the film doesn’t kick off with a pretty audacious bummer. It’s not to be spoiled here, but believe us, Happy (Sandler) really needs a win, and there’s something impressive about Sandler and Tim Herlihy’s script using that as a jumping-off point.

The film’s opening moments zip through the highs and lows of Happy’s life since we last left him, from his continued success in both golf and sponsorship opportunities (that he started stumping for Trojan condoms after having four sons in a row with his wife is a...

Things That Better Be in Happy Gilmore 2
Image
Adam Sandler is dusting off the hockey stick putter and coming back in the spotlight in Happy Gilmore 2. Nearly 30 years later, Sandler returns as the hot-headed hockey player-turned-golfing legend, but now a bit older.

The sequel brings back the rage and ridiculousness that made the 1996 original a classic comedy. Happy is now a father and a husband. He’s still competing in the wide world of golf now, for his daughter’s ballet school. In an interview with Good Morning America (via ABC News), Sandler joked about returning to the role as an old man.

He’s older. He’s a little thicker, as you can tell from one of these camera angles. But Happy Gilmore’s life isn’t perfect right now at the beginning of the movie. And, he’s a family man and he’s gettin’ back into his golf game.

Happy Gilmore 2 premieres on...

Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
Carl Weathers was tapped to return as Chubbs for Happy Gilmore 2 before 2024 death
Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
Just tap it in…We’re just one week away from the release of Happy Gilmore 2, bringing everyone’s favorite short-tempered golfer back to the green. While we can expect much of the same style of humor and plenty of callbacks, there had to be a number of alterations, a key one of which centers around Chubbs, played by Carl Weathers, who passed away in 2024 just a few months before Happy Gilmore 2 was confirmed. So what was the plan for Chubbs?

Adam Sandler recently sat down with Collider to discuss how the death of Carl Weathers impacted the development of the Happy Gilmore 2 script. “We had a painful change. Carl Weathers had a massive part. I would talk to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl passed away. We had to rewrite a lot of the stuff, and even what the story was. We made a...

David Lynch's 91% Rotten Tomatoes Neo-Noir Thriller With a 'Dune' Star Has a New Free Streaming Home
Image
The late director David Lynch has given us some of the most iconic movies. He was the kind of visionary whose work, in some instances, made more sense in retrospect. From surreal landscapes, cinematography, to thrilling plots and misunderstood heroes, his movies have a quality, a dreamy texture, that no one can replicate. Among his long list of works is Blue Velvet, starring hisfrequent collaborator and Dune star Kyle MacLachlan, which has found a free streaming home, per ComicBook.

Blue Velvet is among the movies that got their flowers late; it received divided reviews upon its release in the 80s and wasn’t a big commercial success, but in contemporary times is considered among the best movies of all time. The movie also bagged Lynch a Best Director Oscar nomination among other accolades. It has a 91 percent Rotten Tomatoes score from critics while the audience score sits at 88 percent. It...

Happy Gilmore 2 Star Was Convinced They Would Be Replaced In Adam Sandler Sequel: “Who Am I Supposed To Be?”
Image
One Happy Gilmore 2 star was convinced they would be replaced in the upcoming sequel. The original comedy, directed by Dennis Dugan, premiered in 1996 and garnered a loyal fandom.

Starring Adam Sandler, it explores an aspiring professional hockey player who discovers he is talented at golf, and could make money from it. Along with Sandler, the cast includes Carl Weathers, Frances Bay, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald. Happy Gilmore 2 will release on Netflix on July 25, and Sandler and many other stars have returned.

Julie Bowen recently appeared on the Inside of Youwith Michael Rosenbaum podcast, and discussed reprising her role in Happy Gilmore 2. Bowen revealed that she was convinced the sequel would not include her and added that Happy should have “a younger woman.”

Later in the episode, Bowen notes that she does not have as much screentime in Happy Gilmore 2 as in the first film, although...

Image
After all these years, it’s time to return to your own happy place, as Adam Sandler walks onto the green again as one of his most beloved characters in the Netflix sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. After almost 30 years, Happy is back and once again donning his Boston Bruins hockey jersey to launch balls into the air using his unique swing, with Netflix Tudum offering us a new look at the long-awaited follow-up.

'This Is Kind of a Big Deal': Happy Gilmore Star Shares What the Netflix Sequel's Really About
Image
Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2 sees Adam Sandler's titular character return to the golf course, bringing his unusual brand of shenanigans while proving his game is still in full swing. Though the sequel has lots to live up to, another returning star believes Sandler and the cast have "outdone themselves" with the anticipated follow-up.

Speaking with People, Happy Gilmore star Christopher McDonald revealed he was "over the moon to be asked to be in" the upcoming sequel, where he'll reprise his role as star golfer and Happy's rival, Shooter McGavin. However, he played it coy when quizzed about story details, claiming, “I signed an NDA. This is kind of a big deal."

McDonald considers himself an "ambassador" for the Happy Gilmore franchise, believing the sequel will live up to the charm of the original, partly because of the "heart" Sandler and his character show. The film is "about family...

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore Returning to Movie Theaters This April
Image
Fans of golf and/or hockey and/or Adam Sandler should mark their calendars for April 27th and 30th, as Universal Pictures has announced plans to re-release the seminal 1996 film Happy Gilmore in theaters.

Happy Gilmore was Sandler’s second major starring role following 1995’s Billy Madison. The movie featured the SNL alum as a hotheaded aspiring hockey player who discovers a more lucrative use for his killer slapshot — professional golf — just when he’s in desperate need of cash to save his grandmother’s house.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore also stars Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late great Carl Weathers. Ben Stiller makes an uncredited appearance as a nursing home orderly who abuses Happy’s grandma (Frances Bay).

Thanks to Universal, tickets are on sale now for the late April screenings on Fandango. While this re-release is happening a year before the movie’s official 30th anniversary,...

Happy Gilmore Re-Release Set for April 27 and 30
Image
Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler stars as the titular character, an aspiring hockey player with a powerful slapshot who can neither skate nor control his volatile temper. When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

Originally released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore was created on a modest $12 million budget and earned more than $40 million during its initial theatrical run.

Remake of Iconic 35-Year-Old Spider Horror Movie Halts Development (& the Reason Why Will Make Fans Curious)
Image
As Hollywood's trend of reboots and remakes continues, horror fans had been expecting a new version of the 1990 film Arachnophobia to be remade by filmmaker Christopher Landon.

Back in 2022, reports emerged that Arachnophobia was getting a remake written and directed by Landon. There hadn't been any major updates shared about the project since, and in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Landon confirmed that the remake has been shelved. Curiously, he said that the reason the project fizzled out was because there was a certain "component" that made studio heads start to feel "uncomfortable" about moving forward. Landon said his unwillingness to remove this aspect from the film resulted in the project getting scrapped.

“There was a component that the studio was very nervous about and uncomfortable with—and that’s where we parted," he said. "I wasn’t willing to compromise on that. I wasn’t going to make...

'50 First Dates' is Toping the Streaming Chart Ahead of Valentine's Day
Image
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's second rom-com together is climbing the streaming chart, as 50 First Dates sits at number five on the Prime Video chart. It's a great Valentine's Day date night movie and has plenty of charm and emotion. The movie follows a vet in Hawaii named Henry (Sandler) who falls for Lucy (Barrymore) with short-term memory loss. Basically, she forgets everything that happened the day before when she wakes up.

Her father and brother, played by Blake Clarke and a hilarious Sean Astin, are very protective of Lucy. Since she's "stuck" in the day she lost her memory in an accident, they attempt to play along with the idea that she wasn't in an accident. But love blooms between Henry and Lucy, despite his having to woo her constantly.

The film opened 21 years ago, on Feb. 13, 2004, just in time for Valentine's Day, and became an instant crowd-pleaser...

1 of Adam Sandler's Funniest Movies Lands a New Streaming Home 30 Years After Its Release
Image
It may only have a 40% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but Adam Sandler’s 1995 movie, Billy Madison, has become a classic among audiences since it was released 30 years ago. The film boasts a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and hits Hulu on Feb. 1.

Billy Madison stars Sandler as the titular man-child, Billy Madison, who, to inherit his father’s hotel empire, must repeat first through twelfth grade again. 4K Uhd Blu-ray Review: Stephen Frears’s ‘The Grifters’ on the Criterion Collection
Image
Even in its most buoyant moments, Stephen Frears’s The Grifters retains a palpable, stifling air of desperation and moral rot. The trio of grifters at the center of the 1990 crime thriller are introduced via a visual triptych, in which each of them are donning designer sunglasses and a slick outfit as they ready themselves for their respective cons. But despite their suave appearances, these schemers—Lilly (Anjelica Huston), Roy (John Cuscack), and Myra (Annette Bening)—aren’t living large.

There are no obscenely rich marks, no luxurious locales, no big score that’ll allow them to sail off into the sunset. No, while Lilly skims a little off the top of her employer’s winnings at a horse racetrack, Roy heads to a dive bar for a money swap that nets him a whopping $10 and Myra seduces a jewelry shop owner. Roy later works a similar scam that earns...

Ben Stiller became a household name after starring in several hit movies during the 1990s and early 2000s. However, the actor says people often mistake him for fellow comedy actor, Adam Sandler.

"People always will yell out to me or to [Sandler], and he'll text me, and he'll say, like, 'I was in Italy and someone said, 'Ben Stiller, I love you!' Adam Sandler Cast Margaret Qualley in Happy Gilmore 2 Based on a Total Lie
Margaret Qualley in 82nd Golden Globe Awards (2025)
Just like us regular old Joes, actors are known to embellish their resumes to help them land jobs, and Margaret Qualley did just that to land a role in Happy Gilmore 2. The actress joins Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore) and Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin) in the new, long-awaited sequel. In the original movie, Happy Gilmore had to learn golf after his career as a hockey player went under, but, in real life, Qualley is undergoing a similar journey to prepare for her unrevealed role.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Margaret Qualley revealed that she had been cast in Happy Gilmore 2, and admitted to the slightly dishonest process of getting her role. After having her agent reach out to Adam Sandler and the producers on the new movie, Qualley's husband, musician Jack Antonoff, received a text from the actor, asking if she knew how to play golf.

Netflix Confirms Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 Is Now in Production
Image
Earlier this year it was announced that a sequel to Happy Gilmore was officially greenlit by Netflix, and now the streaming giant has confirmed that production has started on the long-awaited Adam Sandler follow-up. Released in 1996, the comedy gem has long been considered one of Sandlers funniest movies, if for nothing more than his battle with the late Bob Barker, and the appearance of Christopher McDonald as his arch nemesis, Shooter McGavin. Produced on a small budget of $12 million, the film grossed $41.2 million by the time it was all said and done, and has since gone on to become a cult favorite.

Via their X account, Netflix confirmed the news today with a post showing a Boston Bruins jersey with the name tag of Happy Gilmore on it. Its a tip of the hat to the original, as Sandlers character is regularly seen wearing the hockey jersey on the golf course.

Ben Stiller's 10 Funniest Movie Characters
Image
In a movie career reaching back to the 1990s, Ben Stiller has played several hilarious characters. Compared to some of his contemporaries, Stiller's comedic persona is much less eye-catching. He doesn't often play loud, splashy characters. Instead, Stiller has portrayed plenty of awkward, lovable losers. He's also brilliant at playing it straight, allowing another actor to deliver big, zany performances.

Some of Ben Stiller's funniest performances have created comedy classics, such as Tropic Thunder and There's Something About Mary. His often understated style doesn't always get the attention it deserves immediately, but audiences eventually come to realize how important his characters are to their movies. Stilller has been taking some time off from acting in the past few years, but he still has a stellar comedic legacy.

Stiller responded to a fan on X/Twitter who asked whether his hilariously cruel character would be back in the Netflix follow-up, to which the actor referenced one of his best quotes from the first movie: You could trouble me for a warm glass of. Shut the hell up! Now you will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep.

Stars: Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Steven Weber, Peter Friedman, Stephen Tobolowsky, Frances Bay | Written by John Lutz, Don Roos | Directed by Barbet Schroeder

Single White Female, directed by Barbet Schroeder and starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, is a psychological thriller that not only captivated audiences with its tense narrative and compelling performances but also marked a significant point in the female-villain-led thrillers of the 1990s, taking what was originally a more direct-to-market “erotic thriller” (from filmmakers like Jag Mundhra) and making it mainstream, leading to a proliferation of similar films through the decade from filmmakers looking to cash-in… and it made a superstar out of actress Bridget Fonda.

The film centres on Allie Jones (Bridget Fonda), a software designer who, after discovering her fiancé’s infidelity, seeks a new roommate. She finds one in Hedra “Hedy” Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh), whose initially shy and supportive demeanour slowly...
