Heartstopper star Kit Connor says he doesn’t want to be defined by the term “queer actor”, after his breakthrough role as bisexual school rugby star Nick Nelson in the Netflix mega-hit.
Connor, along with co-star Joe Locke, has become a star with the arrival of Heartstopper, which premiered on the platform in April 2022 and soon became its fifth most watched English language show, watched for a reported 53million hours worldwide.
But he received accusations of “queerbaiting” (appropriation by straight people of gay culture for kudos) after he was photographed hand in hand with actress Maia Reficco in November last year.
At the time, Connor broke his own retreat from social media to come out to his many followers – a decision he told the Guardian newspaper he now considers “frankly a bit rash” – when he posted:

"Who I am is none of your concern!" Wildcard Distribution in the UK has revealed an official trailer for a spy thriller titled Blackbird, from dance maestro Michael Flatley, who stars in, writes, and directs the film. Not to be confused with the Susan Sarandon drama Blackbird from 2019, or this year's prison drama also called Black Bird, this is something else. It was originally supposed to open in 2020, but after multiple delays and behind-the-scenes drama, the film is only now getting release - starting with Ireland first. Still no US date is set yet. The troubled secret agent "Blackbird" abruptly retires from service and opens a luxurious nightclub in Barbados, in the Caribbean, to escape the dark shadows of his past. An old flame arrives and reignites love in his life but she brings danger with her. Flatley stars, with Eric Roberts, Patrick Bergin, Nicole Evans, and Ian Beattie. This actually doesn't look so bad.

Former Game of Throne‘s star Ian Beattie just can’t win in Beirut’s humorous new video for “Landslide.” The song will appear on Zach Condon and his group’s forthcoming fifth studio album, Gallipoli.
In the Eoin Glaister-directed clip, which was shot in Kazakhstan, Beattie’s character embodies the song’s resilient outlook, which juxtaposes the defeating feelings of a landslide while declaring “I can’t hold on” against uplifting harmonies and Condon’s plucky Farfisa organ melodies.

"A great escape. An incredible true story." Bleecker Street Media has unveiled an official Us trailer for the film Papillon, a remake of the 1973 film Papillon starring Steve McQueen as Henri "Papillon" Charrière. Both films tell the same story of a French safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. This film seems to tell his entire life story of how he got there and how he escapes, while the original 1973 film focuses mostly on his time on the island and eventual escape with another prisoner. The cast of this Papillon film includes Rami Malek, Eve Hewson, Roland Møller, Michael Socha, Christopher Fairbank, Brian Vernel, and Ian Beattie. This looks like a thrilling, harrowing prison film that tells a very impressive life story - but I don't think it will top the original. Not too...

"I know it will take a miracle for these two to work things out." IFC Films has debuted a trailer for an indie drama titled The Journey, telling a fictional account of "an impromptu, detour-filled car ride through the Scottish countryside" where two opposing politicians realize they're more alike than different. Set in 2006, amidst the ongoing, decades-long conflict in Northern Ireland, Timothy Spall plays the British loyalist Ian Paisley, and Colm Meaney plays former Ira leader Martin McGuinness dedicated to reunification. The cast includes Toby Stephens as Tony Blair, plus Freddie Highmore, Catherine McCormack, Ian Beattie, and John Hurt in one of his final roles. I'm interested in this to see the two different perspectives and what insight each gains from each other, but also for the powerful performances from these fine actors. Here's the first official trailer for Nick Hamm's The Journey, direct from YouTube (via Tmb):...

What follows after that is the interviews the lads have been lucky enough to get since they started attending Comic Cons.

A morning full of eye-opening surprises, the nominations for the 22nd Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced.
The standout nods were the inclusion of Straight Outta Compton, Beasts Of No Nation, Sarah Silverman, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Idris Elba and two for Dame Helen Mirren.
Not among the perceived hopefuls called were Sylvester Stallone, Charlotte Rampling, Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, The Martian and The Hateful Eight.
Two nominating panels – one for television and one for film – each composed of 2,200 randomly selected union members from across the United States, chose this year’s nominees.
Some of the Sags choices were head-scratchers to be sure, but we’re thinking that the Oscar picks may be very different when The Academy announces their nominations next month live on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 5:30 a.m. Pt at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Idris Elba and Helen Mirren lead actor nominations with three nods each.Scroll down for full list of film and TV nominations
Hollywood blacklist drama Trumbo has led the nominations for the 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards with three nods for lead actor Bryan Cranston, supporting actress Helen Mirren and the ensemble cast. The Martian and The Hateful Eight were shut out.
Set in 1947, the film centres on Dalton Trumbo (Cranston), who was Hollywood’s top screenwriter, until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs.
Cranston will go up against Johnny Depp for Black Mass, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl.
Films that secured two nominations included Beasts Of No Nation, The Big Short, Carol, The Danish Girl, Room, Spotlight - whose outstanding cast nod will only strengthen its status as best picture Oscar frontrunner — and Steve Jobs.

The 22nd annual SAG Awards nominations were announced this morning and it's full of surprises! Sylvester Stallone, loved by critics and the National Board of Review for his performance in "Creed," was ignored. So was Kristen Stewart's supporting performance in "Clouds of Sils Maria." Matt Damon, who was so good and carried "The Martian" from start to finish, was also missing from the list.
But here's what I love about the SAG noms. First, Sarah Silverman's first dramatic performance in "I Smile Back" was embraced. And I'm also happy with the inclusion of "Room's" Brie Larson and the fantastic child actor, Jacob Tremblay. The endearing "Carol" also received noms for both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, and Saoirse Ronan's performance in the beautiful "Brooklyn" also received a nomination.
The big winner of the SAG noms is Bleecker Street's "Trumbo." Missing from earlier critics awards (see here...

Nominees for the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were unveiled this morning in Hollywood, with a fair amount of surprises to be had. Leading the pack is Trumbo, which picked up three nominations, then a large batch of films behind it with two each: Beasts of No Nation, The Big Short, Carol, The Danish Girl, Room, Spotlight, and Steve Jobs.
Perhaps most surprising is no mention of The Hateful Eight, which has one of the year’s best ensembles. Also of questionable note is the inclusion of Helen Mirren for Woman in Gold, a film all but forgotten (we suppose Harvey Weinstein’s campaigning indeed worked). There’s also the welcome nods to Michael Shannon in 99 Homes and Sarah Silverman in I Smile Back, as well as an ensemble nod to Straight Outta Compton. Check out the full list of nominees below ahead of the ceremony on Saturday, Jan.

HBO’s Game of Thrones Mother’s Mercy TV Show Review. Game of Thrones: Season 5, Episode 10: Mother’s Mercy brought several main character’s season long arcs to a close, striking a typically “Game of Thrones-ian” balance of closure for season 5 and rabid anticipation heading into season 6.
Stannis, Stannis, Stannis (Stephen Dillane). What is there left to say about the would be king of The Seven Kingdoms? We already knew that he was out of the running for the Westerosi father of the year award, but the unfortunate string of events he endured in this episode showed him there is always a lower emotional rung to sink to. There was a bit of dark comedic timing in the way the soldiers reported increasingly dire circumstances to Stannis that was reminiscent of a Monty Python sketch. Melisandre (Carice von Houten) abandoning Stannis’s camp faster than Daenerys (Emilia Clarke...

A bold new era has begun on "Game of Thrones". We are now (with a few exceptions) all on the same page. The major events book readers have kept under wraps for as long as they could, have played out on screen. With much of season five carrying the trend of diverting from the novels towards downright invention, the discussion surrounding the show has become more complex. Now that the show has delivered on many of this season's promises, there is a lot to talk about. No one will consider "Mother's Mercy" an optimistic or hopeful episode and Stannis (Stephen Dillane) sets the tone. After his horrific actions seem to have paid off in the form of a thaw, he is quickly dealt three massive blows that could only be interpreted as cosmic retribution. His men have abandoned him, his wife has abandoned him, and his lord has abandoned him...

HBO’s Game of Thrones The Dance of Dragons TV Show Review. Game of Thrones: Season 5, Episode 9: The Dance of Dragons is the penultimate episode of season five. Instead of matching the visual spectacle of last week’s exceptional episode, The Dance of Dragon’s took viewers on a remarkable emotional journey that reached the exhilarating highs and soul crushing lows that Game of Thrones is famous for.
Game of Thrones is the only series on the air that could spend an episode dancing along the precipice of murdering a child and have viewers not even doubt that said child will meet a gruesome end. The Dance of Dragons provided another example of the tension and sense of dread a show can create when an audience accepts that no character is safe from death. As much as we all hoped that Shireen (Kerry Ingram) would escape Melisandre’s (Carice van Houton) sacrifice,...

The ninth episode of every season of "Game of Thrones" is the one people remember. The last four seasons gave us the fate of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the Battle of the Blackwater, the Red Wedding, and the Battle of the Wall. For season five, the memorable action-packed episode was delivered early in the form of "Hardhome", but "The Dance of Dragons" features an ending that should find its way into that pantheon. Before that ending, the show has a bit of business to take care of to set up the finale. In Dorne, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Prince Doran (Alexander Siddig) broker an unstable peace. Doran, again, recounts his horrendous experiences with war which serve to highlight why he is, seemingly, willing to do anything to prevent hostilities with King's Landing. He is even willing to let Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free) return with Jaime provided his son, Trystane (Toby Sebastian...

This week's Game Of Thrones enters immediately into its own hall of fame. Here's Ron's review...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.6 The Laws Of Gods And Men
We've all seen a show have one or two good episodes, then kind of tail off into a status of eternal decentness. Never great, never bad, sometimes mediocre, and usually just kind of... pretty good. Game Of Thrones is not one of those shows. The first season was riveting, the second season became the showcase of Tyrion Lannister, the third season was the Red Wedding and the destruction of the Stark family. The worst episode, if you can call it that, is rated with an 8.5 on the IMDb.
That's a very high average, and a very high bar for the average episode of Game Of Thrones to meet, yet The Laws Of Gods And Men may have become one of the best episodes on the show's four seasons.

Game of Thrones' “The Laws of Gods and Men” saw Stannis visit Braavos, Dany’s sense of justice questioned and Tyrion derail his father’s plans for his murder trial.
Game of Thrones Recap
The episode first shows Stannis (Stephen Dillane) and Davos (Liam Cunningham) in Braavos, where they attempt to hit up the Iron Bank for coin to fund their quest for the throne. After waiting for hours, they're finally given an audience with Tycho Nestoris (Mark Gatiss). Stannis makes the case, as he has over and over, that he’s the rightful heir to the throne as Robert Baratheon’s brother. Robert’s children, Stannis tells Tycho, were never really his and that they were born of Lannister incest.
Tycho doesn’t have any proof about the Lannister family, all he knows are the numbers in his books. He wants to know the number of men they have,...
