How One Twist In Final Destination 3 Could Have Changed The Franchise! (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Spoiler Alert: The following article discusses major plot points from Final Destination 3 and Final Destination: Bloodlines.
Final Destination 3 nearly threw fans a curveball that could’ve flipped the franchise on its head. While the third installment stuck close to the deadly blueprint, vision, escape, then Death playing catch-up, it almost took a sharp left turn right at the end.
Instead of leaving us with that subway crash tease, the original ending would’ve dropped a bombshell: cameos from two Final Destination 2 survivors, Kimberly (Aj Cook) and Officer Burke (Michael Landes). So, what went wrong? According to producer Craig Perry (per Digital Spy), they had the plan in place. They even wrote it out, and one of the two actors was ready to go

Frozen's stripped-down story revolves around three friends stranded on a ski lift. The plot is simple and effective, and it features one of the most relatable final girls in film.
Tubi is now streaming Frozen, one of the 2010s' most underrated horror films. Starring Shawn Ashmore (The Rookie), Emma Bell (Final Destination 5), and Kevin Zegers (Wrong Turn), Frozen is a gritty psychological thriller; its slow-burn tension reportedly caused audience members to faint during its 2010 Sundance premiere. The film imagined what it's like to be trapped on a ski lift for two nights, which is every skier's worst nightmare.
Frozen's sequences were so visceral because they were all shot on location, and the harsh weather was the actors' primary motivation. "The whole movie was shot practically, which means not on a soundstage or green screen, [Ashmore, Bell, and Zegers] always really up there," director Adam Green revealed (per LAist). "They probably spent about four hours before break,...

The success of The Final Destination at the box office not only meant an inevitable sequel, despite its more maligned reception, but also that it would feature 3D. While that instilled an expectation for the weakest entry yet, Final Destination 5 wound up one of the strongest.
Director Steven Quale (Into the Storm) and writer Eric Heisserer, newcomers to the franchise, maintain the formula and standard for unforgettable kills while building toward a surprise conclusion that brings the films full circle. Quale and Heisserer use the standout kills and a likable new cast as a fun distraction from the foreshadowing hiding the twist in plain sight, all making for one of the strongest fifth entries in any horror franchise.

One of the coolest things about the "Final Destination" franchise is that if you were to ask someone which one was their favorite, it would be completely understandable to hear any four of them come up. I cannot envision a world where anyone claims 2009's "The Final Destination" as the best this horror franchise has to offer. With that installment in mind, it almost feels like a minor miracle that the series would not only survive such a franchise-killing sequel but would also lead to an installment that brings "Final Destination" back to its roots in ways no one could have anticipated.
I've seen these movies many, many times, and I will always go to bat for "Final Destination 5" as the series benchmark. The triple threat of its harrowing disaster sequences, gruesome deaths, and one of the greatest rug pulls in horror history puts it above the rest. The...

If you love horror, Final Destination isn’t just a movie—it’s a stress test for your imagination. Every object suddenly feels like a death trap. One minute, everything seems expected, and the next, someone is getting taken out by a freak accident so bizarre you’ll never look at everyday life the same way again.
Highways? Too risky. Roller coasters? Not unless a heart attack is desired. Airplane turbulence? Gripping the seat like it’s the last lifeline. Well, Death is back, and this time, it’s playing by new rules. Final Destination: Bloodlines is the sixth installment in the franchise, and it’s not just a reboot or another copy-paste sequel.
The creators have made it clear that this one will be distinct, switching up the formula that made the series famous. If you thought you knew how this franchise worked, think again—because this time, Death isn’t following the script.

This article contains spoilers for the first five "Final Destination" movies.
A good hook in a horror sequel can lure audiences in with the promise of a shakeup to the formula, whether it be adding a supernatural twist, ramping up the gore effects, or adopting a different tone altogether. You don't want a cool idea to get stale. One of the greatest strengths of "Final Destination" as a franchise is that each new film has mostly been able to sell itself by demolishing the sanctity of our everyday routines. James Wong, Glen Morgan and Jeffrey Reddick redefined the fear of flying for an entire generation. The series has since made it its mission to cast doubt over the little things — and the many ways they can kill us.
This is why "Final Destination" has maintained its cultural stronghold over the past 25 years, despite the last installment coming out nearly a decade and a half ago.

Final Destination 5 Movie Poster (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Netflix is currently stirring the pot for horror lovers with a sinister gem that’s making waves for one reason above all and it is its jaw-dropping finale. The film, Final Destination 5, is not your average fright fest, but a rollercoaster of suspense, twisted fate, and a climax that’s been called a genre-defining mic drop.
The Twist That Redefined the Franchise
The setup of the movie sounds deceptively simple like a team-building retreat. That is, until Sam Lawton experiences a terrifying premonition of a collapsing suspension bridge and before it strikes, he pulls a few colleagues back from the brink. But in the universe of Final Destination, death doesn’t like being cheated and it’s not subtle about collecting what’s owed.
This fifth chapter in the long-running franchise doesn’t just follow the usual formula of freak accidents and Rube Goldberg-style fatalities.

Horror movies exploit a viewer's worst fears. For some, it's ghosts lurking in the dark corner of their bedroom. For others, it's demonic possession or a serial killer stalking them outside their house. Frozen, released by Anchor Bay Films in 2010, capitalizes on a more niche fear. Not to be confused with the Disney film of the same name, Frozen has an extremely simple, yet effective premise. Two guys named Dan (Kevin Zegers) and Joe (Shawn Ashmore) and a girl named Parker (Emma Bell) end up getting trapped and isolated at the top of the chairlift at a ski resort. The worst part is that the trio didn't even have enough money to afford their lift ticket, and then later, they went after hours to try a more complex hill. In other words, they should never have been in this life-or-death situation in the first place.

Angela was remains of the most hated The Walking Dead characters to appear in the long-running AMC zombie drama - and as a fan of the Robert Kirkman comics it’s based on, I know that she shouldn’t have been. Played by Laurie Holden between seasons 1 and 3 of The Walking Dead (along with some flashback cameos in seasons 10 and 11), Andrea was one of the first survivors Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) encountered in season 1. Initially traveling with her ill-fated sister Amy (Emma Bell), Andrea’s story arc quickly became one of the most tragic in the show’s earlier seasons.
Laurie Holden remained part of The Walking Dead cast until the season 3 finale, when Andrea was killed off. There were many Twd fans who were happy to see her go for a variety of different reasons. However, it didn’t have to be this way. While I am generally a...

The Walking Dead franchise is expanding with new spinoffs, including Daryl Dixon Season 2, "The Book of Carol." Other spinoffs, like Dead City and The Ones Who Live, continue the story of the post-apocalyptic universe, allowing the franchise to continue years after the end of its flagship series.
While many of the original show's best aspects have been resurrected in its spinoffs, the new series has failed to replicate the tragic deaths that The Walking Dead delivered in its eleven-season run, and each season brought at least one incredibly devastating death to the table, from series mainstays to new characters who had far more potential.

“It’s not a remake. It’s not a sequel. And it’s not based on a Japanese one.”
Hatchet‘s festival tagline — a quote from a major studio’s rejection of the film — served as a rally cry for horror fans. Despite its roots planted firmly in practical effects-driven ’80s slashers a la Friday the 13th, Hatchet felt fresh and exciting when it arrived in 2006; a gory but lighthearted reprieve from torturous studio horror littered with janky CGI and cheap scares.
Willed into existence by writer-director Adam Green based on a character he conceived as an 8-year-old summer camper, the Hatchet franchise centers on Victor Crowley — the hulking, vengeful spirit of a deformed boy that haunts the swamps of New Orleans. While on the picket lines, actors shared with TheWrap that they were excited about the Writers Guild of America’s deal and are hoping the studios give SAG-AFTRA members what they “need and deserve” in a contract.

Steven Yeun has been a staple on TV screens since first stepping into the iconic role of Glenn on the AMC adaptation of the "The Walking Dead" comic-book series. Now, he's starring on Netflix's new comedy-thriller "Beef" alongside Ali Wong. Survival horror Fall (which is now on Netflix UK) sees two extreme sports enthusiasts climb up a 2000 foot tower in the middle of the desert and get stuck at the top. It’s high-concept in every sense as the two women teeter on a tiny ledge impossibly high up while the audience feel (pleasantly?) sick and anxious the whole time.
Fall is effective and efficient. The girls are likeable, capable and make good choices (other than climbing up a 2000 foot tower in the first place…). There’s real peril, enough back story to round the characters out, but ultimately it’s girls vs tower, with some pesky buzzards thrown in for good measure. This kind of survival horror – and by that in this instance we mean a film where characters are pitted against nature or a circumstance, rather than a person, or a supernatural entity – works viscerally when it’s done well.

As the United States continues to be battered with winter storms, this seemed like a good time to revisit a horror film with a wintry setting for the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series – and the movie we’ve decided to bring more attention to with the new episode is writer/director Adam Green’s 2010 film Frozen (watch it Here)… a movie which was released just three years before an animated Disney film came along and took ownership of the title “Frozen” in the minds of most movie-goers. To hear about Adam Green’s Frozen, check out the video embedded above!
This Frozen has the following synopsis: As a winter storm approaches, three people become stranded on a chairlift high above the ground when a ski resort closes for the week.
The film stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell, and Kevin Zegers, with an appearance by Green’s Hatchet franchise star Kane Hodder.

It’s happened to all of us. We have an argument with someone we care about, based on something fraught that happened in the past. One person swears one version of the truth, the other swears the other. What actually happened? The Argument, a new indie film from director Robert Schwartzman (The Unicorn), aims to answer this question for a couple as literally as possible. Jack (Dan Fogler) is a struggling screenwriter. Lisa (Emma Bell), his girlfriend, is an actor who just finished a juicy play with charismatic co-star Paul (Tyler James Williams). When subdued feelings of jealousy and …...

This is the weekend American film fans have been waiting for with the release of a pair of the year’s biggest movies — Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” and Disney’s live-action version of “Mulan” — after considerable delay.
The fact that the two strategies for sharing these two movies with the public are so wildly different — Nolan insisted on releasing “Tenet” in theaters, while “Mulan” will test Disney Plus’ pricey new “Prime Access” model — shows the degree of turmoil and ingenuity within the industry, as studios do their best to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic. Will audiences find these options safe (or affordable) enough at a time of social distancing and belt-tightening?
Meanwhile, independent distributors have more or less figured out how to deliver their titles — movies that didn’t cost hundreds of millions and therefore don’t rely on grabbing as many viewers as possible over a short span of time — directly to consumers,...

For a significant portion of the The Argument’s running time, there’s a sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop. The set up for the film isn’t particularly strong, and all throughout the first act, it’s hard not to feel like the production is going through the motion. It actually isn’t until the third act that things kick into gear, especially in terms of getting unique and weird. So, as the flick opens today, the question before me is the following: is one really good act enough to warrant a recommendation? It depends on the title in question, but for The Argument, the answer is a low-key yes. The movie is a comedy, focusing on a small group of people and the rather unusual situation they find themselves in. When Jack (Dan Fogler) and Lisa (Emma Bell) disagree in the opening scene, it seems...

Edward Albee could write an argument. In “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” George and Martha rip into each other, showing how a couple with some wear on its tires knows just where to drive in the nail to inflict maximum damage. Screenwriter Zac Stanford is no Edward Albee, and his low-key lovers’-spat dramedy “The Argument,” directed by Robert Schwartzman, pales in comparison with pretty much all the great relationship-on-the-rocks movies you can think of — “Blue Valentine,” “Marriage Story,” “Two for the Road,” to name just a few. But we’re in a pandemic, cooped up as couples (for better or worse), and watching an argument with your partner is better than having one.
The thing that might bring Stanford’s broken-record comedy too close to home is also its defining feature: Jack (Dan Fogler) and Lisa (Emma Bell) have a squabble, and rather than letting it go, or discussing it like adults,...

"I made a pie!" Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Argument, the latest from actor / musician / director Robert Schwartzman. The Argument follows Jack and his girlfriend, Lisa as they get into an argument during a get together with some friends over wine and charcuterie in their apartment after the final night of a play. As the argument escalates, the party comes to an end and all their friends leave — but the party isn't really over. Jack and Lisa recreate the party over and over again — with all their guests — in order to figure out who was right. Dan Fogler and Emma Bell star, with Maggie Q, Danny Pudi, Cleopatra Coleman, Karan Brar, Marielle Scott, Charlotte McKinney, Tyler James Williams, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Mark Ryder. This is a pretty clever concept for a film, recreating a party just to settle an argument, of course it...

We’ve got the exclusive debut of the trailer for Robert Schwartzman’s upcoming film The Argument, in virtual theaters and on demand September 4, and it looks like a refreshingly bizarre take on romantic comedy tropes. The movie stars Dan Fogler and Emma Bell as Jack and Lisa, a couple who get into an argument in the middle of a get-together with a group of their friends. Rather than squash the conflict or agree to disagree and move on, the two decide that the only way to resolve the dispute is to recreate the exact events of the …...

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to the comedy The Argument directed by Robert Schwartzman and written by Zac Stanford (The Chumscrubber). The film is set to open in theaters and on demand September 4.
In the film, Jack (Dan Fogler from the Fantastic Beasts franchise) and his girlfriend, Lisa (Emma Bell from The Walking Dead) are having a lovely cocktail party. Things take a turn when they get into an argument. As the argument escalates, the party comes to an end and all their friends leave — but the party isn’t really over. Jack and Lisa recreate the party over and over again — with all their guests — in order to figure out who was right.
“On behalf of our team at Utopia, the cast, and crew, we are thrilled to partner with Gravitas Ventures, a company that has shown genuine passion throughout this acquisition,” said Shwartzman.

What a difference a decade can make. Ten years ago, the famed San Diego Comic Convention looked very different than it does today. For starters, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year's Comic-Con will be virtual. In 2010, stars were in abundance at Comic-Con as hit shows and movies held panels, debuted trailers, teased inside scoop and so much more. In fact, at the '10 Comic-Con, the now-AMC hit The Walking Dead made their first-ever appearance. Yup, 10 years ago, season one stars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jon Bernthal, Laurie Holden and Emma Bell were relatively unknown. If that doesn't blow your mind, The Avengers cast made their big debut, including then...

Newly formed literary management company International Literary Properties – which represents the works of authors such as “Maigret’s” Georges Simenon – has signed a first-look deal with BBC Studios, allowing both BBC Studios Production and its team of independent producers the chance to adapt for television the intellectual property owned and managed by Ilp.

A few weeks after it acquired rights to 12 notable author estates, London/New York management outfit International Literary Properties has set a first-look deal with BBC Studios. I’ll say it straight away. I don’t really like romantic comedies or ‘rom-coms’ as they are better known. Hate is probably too strong a word but I can count on one hand how many I have enjoyed. And I have to say pretty much they exact same thing about weddings. They’re generally long, bring affairs and I’ve thankfully not been invited to many (maybe there’s a link there?!). So a romantic comedy about weddings might seem like the last thing I’d choose to watch but I do like to at least give ‘new’ things a go.
I’m very glad I did. Plus One had me smiling from start to finish. It’s a simple story.

A case involving the poisoning of a Navy musician, fortunately, didn't hit a sour note.
McGee got to be in charge of the case after Gibbs abruptly left the office on NCIS Season 17 Episode 8.
Jack also responded to an unexpected text as well, but there was a scant resolution to either storyline.
The weighty case, though, got solved on this surprisingly humorous episode.
Making things worse was the Secretary of the Navy making noise about closing the case so that the publicity-generating Anchor Ensemble could perform at a special Washington D.C. date.
What an effective opening it was, when an impromptu jam session of "Swing Swing Swing" got cut abruptly short when a clarinet player threw himself out the back door of their bus, crashing through the windshield of the follow car.
Talk about the day the music died.
It certainly didn't take Jimmy long to determine that the...

Happy Friday, everyone! As the end of this year’s Women in Horror Month is sadly nearly upon us, we have one more batch of amazing horror (and genre-adjacent) short films for you all to enjoy that were helmed by some great female filmmakers from all over the world. First up is Scratch from Emma Bell (who many fans should know from The Walking Dead and Frozen), and then we have Becca Flinn-White’s spookfest The Candlelight Witch on tap. Next up is Blackbird, which Screamfest recently added to their online short film channel, and to close things out, we have Špela Čadež’s animated short, Nighthawk, which has a darkly comedic streak to it that I really appreciated.
We hope you enjoy this latest assortment of genre shorts directed by some very talented women, and we’ll see you right back here next month for more mini-terrors!

Stolen Picture, the production company founded by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, has launched a new drama initiative to work with up-and-coming writers on young-adult projects, with two series already in development.
The first project from the Righta Incubator initiative, “We Never Sleep,” is a detective comedy-thriller that will tackle bullying, justice, morality, mental health and post-Brexit small-town life. “Chemistry,” the second project, is a fast-paced genre hybrid that will pose questions about what it means to be human as the show follows protagonists on the run for their survival.
Pegg and Frost formed London-based Stolen Picture with former Fox Searchlight and Bad Wolf executive Miles Ketley last year. There has been keen interest in the new indie banner’s projects, given the founders’ loyal following and string of film and TV hits.
Horror comedy movie “Slaughterhouse Rulez” is in production, and half-hour paranormal investigator comedy “Truth Seekers” is in development.

20th Century Women (Mike Mills)
That emotional profundity most directors try to build to across an entire film? Mike Mills achieves it in every scene of 20th Century Women. There’s such a debilitating warmness to both the vibrant aesthetic and construction of its dynamic characters as Mills quickly soothes one into his story that you’re all the more caught off-guard as the flurry of emotional wallops are presented.

Cynthia Nixon as Emily Dickinson and Jennifer Ehle as her sister Vinnie, in Terrence Davies’ A Quiet Passion. © A Quiet Passion/Hurricane Films/Courtesy of Music Box Films.
Early in A Quiet Passion, we see the young Emily Dickinson being expelled from a women’s college for her defiant, free-thinking attitude. It is not how we usually see the poet portrayed, and one of the refreshing aspects of director Terence Davies’s insightful, surprising biography.
Those expecting a depressing, claustrophobic slog through the life of Emily Dickinson will be very surprised by A Quiet Passion. Davies presents a witty young Emily, who is irresistibly energetic and frankly laugh-out loud funny. Cynthia Nixon turns in a stellar performance as Dickinson, in this wonderful drama from the acclaimed British director of House Of Mirth and last year’s Sunset Song. If you only know the actress from Sex In The City, this role will be a revelation.

One of the most remarkable moments in A Quiet Passion, Terence Davies’ witty and stirring Emily Dickinson biopic, is a simple transitional device. Emily, played as a teenager by Emma Bell, has sat down to pose for what will become one of the only surviving photos of the poet, taken in 1847. Davies slinks his camera forward, pushing in on her face, until—through some almost imperceptible trick of the light—Bell has transformed, before our very eyes, into Cynthia Nixon. This amazingly seamless special effect serves a practical function: A Quiet Passion has leapt from Dickinson’s youth to her adulthood, and from here Nixon will take over the role. But given the preoccupations of this great American artist, unsung in her own time but almost universally beloved today, the moment shudders with an additional significance.
