The Stay in LA campaign, a call to keep more production in the city, has hit 20,000 signatures with high-profile stars including Andy Garcia and Marisa Tomei joining the call alongside filmmakers including Jonathan Nolan and Paul Feig.

This comes after a week of awards season events where the likes of Hacks co-creator Paul W. Downs and DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter stumped for the campaign at high-profile shindigs.

As Hacks, which shoots in locations including Altadena, won best comedy series at the Critics Choice Awards, Downs said that “we need to ask to shoot our shows in LA” and the “people in the room have the power to make it happen”, while Linka Glatter, who lost her home in the wildfires, urged directors to “insist that your projects are shot where they are set”.

Shows about police officers have been around for decades. The conflict and dangerous situations that come with the profession are evidently fertile ground for on-screen drama. Since 2000, a number of cop shows have come and gone, some of which put unique spins on the classic procedural formula. Justified takes the police thriller and mixes it with the Western, Fargo adds comedy, and Hannibal adds horror.

Sometimes, though, audiences are just looking for a more typical show about cops. Recent shows like We Own This City and Mare of Easttown delivered on this front, as has True Detective, The Shield, S.W.A.T., and The Rookie. There's one cop thriller show, however, that has just recently released on Prime Video, and it's quickly established itself as a win with audiences for its grounded storytelling and compelling character drama.

Mare of Easttown season 2 is not yet confirmed, but it has been reported to be a possibility.

The opening of this new Prime Video series courtesy of Dick Wolf kicks things off with a bang. Officer Maria Delgado (Monica Raymund of Chicago Fire) is making a routine traffic stop only to get a bullet in the neck from a gangbanger.

With the entire Wilshire Boulevard section of the LAPD equally mourning and wanting payback, veteran patrolwoman Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) is hard-hit as she was Delgado’s training officer. That haunts her as she’s now assigned rookie cop Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente).

At first, the show looks like the same material we’ve seen in scores of series', especially The Rookie. That includes Harmon clashing with old-school Sgt. Lasman (Eriq Lasalle), whose methods aren’t what she wants to teach Diaz.

Lori Loughlin’s new role in Prime Video’s “On Call” is so unlike anything else she’s done before, she didn’t even recognize herself on screen at first as a tough cop who’s light years away from her characters in “Full House” and “When Calls the Heart.”

She’s showing a whole new side to herself in the new Prime Video series, On Call, which also stars Pretty Little Liars‘ Troian Bellisario and 13 Reasons Why‘s Brandon Larracuente. Loughlin isn’t her usual wholesome self. In fact, she wears no makeup. She also curses, which is a departure from her previous roles.

It takes less than three minutes for the latest drama to bear Dick Wolf’s name to drop an F-bomb, adopt the dashcam, and violently kill off a familiar face at point blank range. For a man renowned for his ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it approach’ to network television, it’s akin to Dylan going electric.

Initially planned for IMDb TV and then Freevee before finding a home on Prime Video, “On Call” is also Wolf’s first straight-to-streaming project (“Law & Order: Organized Crime” only moved to Peacock in its fifth season), while each episode is done and dusted within a binge-friendly 30 minutes.

“On Call” is a decent small-scale police procedural. But is it decent enough when it comes from the house of Dick Wolf?

The pedigreed eight-part show traded broadcast networks for Prime Video, where it will premiere Thursday. The novelty is that each episode is a bite-sized 30 minutes, with modest character arcs that extend over multiple episodes, and multiple seemingly random crime sequences that propel individual installments.

The result feels like “Cops” with a script. The ride-along series puts the audience largely behind the wheel with Traci Harmon. She’s a divorced surfer with a chip on her shoulder, a junkie sister and a troubled relationship with her fellows on the force. She’s wound as tight as her bun.

Riding shotgun is her trainee, the handsome newbie Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente). The young idealist is eager for the challenge, but he keeps leaping into the danger zone, ignoring the sage...

Troian Bellisario’s On Call tells the story of Long Beach Police training officer Traci Harmon, who takes on a new trainee in the wake of her old trainee being murdered while on call. While the show has an overarching story, from episode to episode it follows on-duty officers on patrol and how hard their everyday work is. At the beginning of the show, Officer Maria Delgado is shot dead while on call. The man who shot her happens to be a part of a massive Long Beach gang. It seems there’s an understanding between the gang and the police, but this murder is a violation of that understanding, so the gang comes under the radar. I did not have Troian Bellisario playing a cop on my 2025 bingo card, but dang, it’s exciting for sure. I know a lot of us grew up watching Pretty Little Liars, however, you don’t understand my obsession with Spencer Hastings. I digress because we’re not here to talk about why Troian is a fantastically underrated actress; we’re here to talk about her new show. On Call tells the story of regular cops out and about trying to save the day. That’s the simplest way to put it. Troian plays Traci Harmon, a trainer officer who teaches the rookies how to do the job. When tragedy strikes, Traci takes it upon herself to solve the case with the help of her new trainee, Alex Diaz. While the show has an overarching revenge-ish story, the main plot revolves around Harmon and Diaz’s daily pursuit to be fantastic On Call cops.

Eriq La Salle would like to gently remind his fans that he never actually went anywhere.

Though he hasn’t done regular series television since hanging up his scrubs as Dr. Peter Benton in 2009, La Salle for the last 17 years has been firmly embedded in the “Wolf camp” — the nickname for Dick Wolf’s vast empire of cop, fire and medical shows. Ever since he made his episodic TV directing debut on Special Victims Unit in 2007, La Salle has played a behind-the-scenes role in Wolf’s primetime lineup, from serving as an executive producer on Chicago Pd to directing multiple episodes of Chicago Justice, Chicago Med, Law & Order, L&o Organized Crime and FBI.

“It’s a camp that is a bit of a meritocracy where if you prove yourself, they give you a lot of respect and support and allow you to grow within the company,” La Salle tells Deadline.
