Hail Caesar! However, in the time period within which the upcoming Starz drama, Spartacus: House of Ashur, is set, no one is really hailing him. At this point in history, Gaius Julius Caesar is not yet the powerful, all-conquering Roman general who became dictator of Rome. Original Spartacus creator, Steven DeKnight, has returned to the world depicted in Starz's epic series. Set in an alternate reality, one of the original series' most hated villains, Ashur (Nick Tarabay), does not meet his death at Mount Vesuvius, but instead is rewarded with the Ludus of Batiatus (John Hannah) for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and ending his rebellion. In the process of crafting his story for the upcoming sequel, DeKnight needed another key figure to return.
Todd Lasance — now of NCIS: Sydney — played the key role of Julius Caesar in the 2010 series. While DeKnight wanted the actor to return to the role in the upcoming sequel,...

The dream of every gladiator when he or she steps onto the sands of an arena is victory, and an opportunity to rise to the very top as champion. Over a decade since it aired, but Starz's epic series, Spartacus, is still dominating the streaming charts, much like the gladiators within did. The original series ran from 2010 to 2013, returning audiences to the gladiator world and Ancient Rome. Thankfully, the long-awaited sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, will premiere this fall, and is we near its premiere, interest in the original series continues to grow. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the blood-soaked Spartacus series is the number one television series streaming on Starz right now. While Power and its spin-offs occupy positions in the lower half of the Top 10, the Top 5 is completed by Three Women, Sweetpea, Outlander, and Bmf. The gladiatorial series' performance is even more impressive when...

When it was announced that Spartacus was returning with a new sequel series, fans were surprised by some things about the announcement. The biggest one was that the new series would follow Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a character who met a pretty much irreversible end in Spartacus: Vengeance. However, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight explained that Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in an alternate reality. During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series creator revealed what other characters are going to return for the new series.
During the interview, DeKnight revealed that Starz wanted to do a Spartacus follow-up for years, but a number of events got in the way. He mentioned the premature death of Andy Whitfield, who was the title character in the debut season — he was replaced by Liam McIntyre (Bring Him To Me). The showrunner revealed that Whitfield's death "took the wind out of everybody's sails,...

A competition reality series, The Summit TV show is hosted by Manu Bennett. In the series, 16 strangers embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the treacherous New Zealand Alps in an attempt to reach the peak of a distant, towering mountain. With their backpacks containing an equal share of $1 million, the group must travel an exhausting distance in just 14 days to win the cash they are carrying. However, not everyone will make it. CBS has canceled “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit” after one season each.
Neither the sitcom from Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., nor the mountainous competition series will return on the network’s schedule next season.
“Poppa’s House” was created by Wayans Sr. and Kevin Hench, and starred the real-life father-son duo as father and son, alongside Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Geoffrey Owens, Caleb Johnson, River Blossom and Wendy Raquel Robinson had recurring roles.
“The Summit” was a spinoff of an Australian series of the same name. Hosted by Manu Bennett, the series followed a group of contestants tasked with climbing a treacherous mountain, all while surmounting mental and social challenges.
The news of these cancellations comes as CBS has ordered two new projects to series: “Dmv,” a single-camera comedy starring Harriett Dyer, Tim Meadows, Molly Kearney and Alex Tarrant; and “Einstein,” a drama led by Matthew Gray Gubler and Rosa Salazar.

When you are working on one of the best TV shows of all time, there are going to be some consequences that you need to be prepared for. Veteran actor Stephen Amell, who worked on the CW show Arrow, knows this all too well.

Since he portrayed the role of the lead character Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Stephen Amell became the face of the CW show. Although he liked the spotlight, there were a number of things that were beyond his control. Fans, however, knew only one person to blame.
Fans always blamed Stephen Amell for everything that went wrong
Arrow ran for a whopping 8 seasons and it’s not possible that the creators did not mess up a single episode (unless you worked on Breaking Bad). Naturally, the show had its good moments and its fair share of bad moments.

Can you believe it’s been over a decade since Spartacus first brought its blood-soaked, action-packed drama to our screens? Back in 2010, this hit show redefined the historical epics with its unapologetic intense storytelling and raw actions. Though Gladiator and Rome did lay the groundwork for sword-and-sandal greatness, Spartacus intensified the level, delivering four seasons of unforgettable action.
Of course, it wasn’t just the on-screen drama that had us hooked to our screens, behind the scenes, the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield after Season 1 broke our hearts. But the series persevered, with Liam McIntyre stepping in to finish this epic saga of the Thracian rebel leader.

A jolly The Price is Right contestant won a vacation that left fans lost for words. The getaway was more enticing — and expensive — than the game show’s usual fare. And it was doled out by a surprise fellow CBS host in a winning TV crossover. In a clip from a recent episode shared by Tpir’s YouTube on Thursday (November 7), Drew Carey called on the sweet-as-could-be Linda from South Carolina to play the Cliff Hangers game. Cliff Hangers entails a hand-painted aluminum mountain climber who climbs up a mountain based on how far the contestant misses the prize’s price, and missing it by too many causes the mountain climber to plummet to his doom. Carey revealed an “extra special treat” was in store. In honor of CBS’ new series The Summit, host Manu Bennett joined the show for a crossover to introduce a trip for two to New Zealand.

When “The Summit” returns to CBS for its second episode, it will unveil exactly what host Manu Bennett meant when he referred to “The Mountain’s Keeper” and her difficult choices.
Or, as the episode logline puts it, “After an unexpected twist reverberates throughout the group, game plans shift as they begin to tackle harder terrain. While the trekkers are challenged with crossing an extremely rickety bridge, emotions surge as the Mountain’s Keeper arrives with a shocking choice for the trekkers to make, leaving one person’s fate hanging by a thread.”
In the video above, get a sneak peek of how The Mountain’s Keeper intends to test the remaining contestants. As Bennett points out, their first task was meant to expedite their progress. “But,” Bennett intones sadly, “they chose empathy over the objective. Now, to get them back on track, The Mountain’s Keeper will force their hand.

Remember when we thought we were going to get a Deathstroke film set in the DC Extended Universe? Good times.
Well, even though that didn't happen, Slade Wilson could be coming to James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as the character is set to co-headline his own DC movie, along with none other than fellow Batman villain Bane. And fans of the anti-hero couldn’t be happier.
We've waited years to see Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke, properly represented in a solo film. Back when the live-action universe was still the Dceu, fans thought they’d finally get a taste when Joe Manganiello suited up as Deathstroke in the post-credit scene of Justice League. You know, the one where the movie was "average at best," and we all left feeling like we deserved more. Manganiello looked like he was plucked right from the pages of DC comics,...

It's time for a new reality series to join the CBS reality competition juggernauts. To get there, it has to climb some incredible heights to reach the top. Which is essentially the premise of the brand-new CBS series, The Summit. Hosted by Kiwi actor Manu Bennett, The Summit follows 16 individuals as they endure a dangerous trek to reach the top of the titular peak in the New Zealand Alps. With breathtaking views and a luscious landscape, its not necessarily the elements that will get the contestants, it's each other. As Bennett told Collider, "It's really interesting to see the individuals who do come from this diverse background and then have to battle this morality of, am I there for myself? Do I have to rely on everybody else?"...

Villains really are the new superheroes.

The project is still in its infancy: There are no stars or director attached, and DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been clear that they will not greenlight a project until they are satisfied with a complete screenplay.

DC Studios is going all in on its villains with Joker: Folie Deux hitting theaters and The Penguin on HBO. Now it looks like James Gunn and Peter Safran's next gamble is to pair Bane and Deathstroke up in a movie. Gunn is currently working on his new Dcu, which so far has a wide selection of different projects from the animated series Creature Commandos debuting later this year, and both Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 set for release in 2025. These will subsequently be joined by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026 with a Lanterns series in the same year. Now, it looks like another project will be entering development, putting the spotlight on two iconic DC villains.

Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke will appear together in a new movie at the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The script is being developed by Matthew Orton, whose upcoming work includes Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World. No director is attached to the project.
Introduced in the early 1990s, the brutish Bane is best known for Tom Hardy’s menacing portrayal of the character in the 2012 Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. More recently, a comical take on Bane has been voiced by James Adomian in the animated series Harley Quinn.

The Penguin and Joker won't be the only Batman villains with their own DC Studios projects. The company is developing a team-up movie starring Bane and Deathstroke.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Orton (Captain America: Brave New World) is developing a script for a movie featuring Bane and Deathstroke at DC Studios. At this time, it is unclear if the project falls under the DC Elseworlds banner or if it will be part of the DC Universe, which begins this December with the adult animated series Creature Commandos. While Deathstroke and Bane are not the first DC villains fans would think would team up, sources close to Deadline have indicated that "it's unclear if they would be the central figures of the project," suggesting that the movie may be more of an ensemble than a two-hander. DC has always excelled at highlighting villains, with the recently released Penguin series starring Colin Farrell as an example. We’ve also got Joker: Folie à Deux coming next week. I’ll confess that I’m not a big comic-book guy, so Deathstroke and Bane seem like a random pairing, but I’m sure the more comic-literate among you will be able to set me right. Maybe they’re good buds.

The perfect casting choice for Deathstroke in the rebooted DC Universe may have been found in the line-up of rumored actors to be in the running to play Hal Jordans' Green Lantern in the upcoming Lanterns series. Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that DC Studios may be close to casting Hal Jordan in the Dcu, with several high profile stars, such as Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor, supposedly being in the running. Any number of these actors would be great as the Green Lantern, but one would make a much better Deathstroke.
One of the actors rumored to be in the running to be Hal Jordan's Green Lantern is Timothy Olyphant. Best known for his roles in Scream 2, Deadwood, Justified and, more recently, The Mandalorian, Timothy Olyphant would be a huge get for DC Studios, and he would certainly be great in the role of an older Green Lantern,...

It’s finally that time of year when we can get excited for the fall television schedule to begin! However, one network in particular will be short on premieres for September 2024: CBS. Instead of every one of their new and returning shows coming back during the regular schedule, a good majority of them are premiering in October. So which five shows are premiering in September?
Even though a majority of the shows coming in September are not the standard procedural or comedy shows, we will still have a dose of reality among the returning and new players. In addition, we will get to see a sneak peek of a new series, Kathy Bates’ Matlock, after the airing of CBS football on Sunday, Sept. 22.
If you are into news and investigative series, then you will be able to mark your calendars for two of the best-known shows, 48 Hours and 60 Minutes.

CBS' Fall TV slate will boast a new reality action-adventure competition in The Summit. Set in the New Zealand Alps, the series is not for the faint of heart but that's to be expected from a program set to air its first season after Survivor--the network's longest running unscripted programming in this genre.
The Summit takes 16 strangers and throws them together in what CBS is calling a "once-in-a-lifetime journey" as they do their best to reach the peak of the mountain before them. Host Manu Bennett told Jeff Probst, in a Conversations Between Stars interview, that the contestants were under the impression that they were going to be doing a treasure hunt.
Instead, they learned that the backpacks they'd be carrying each held an equal share of the $1,000,000 grand prize. Over the course of 14 days they would make the treacherous and exhausting trek up the mountain and would need...

CBS isn’t eager for summer to end. The Eye network has opted to push its premiere week — normally held the third week of September — to mid-October, with one big exception: “Survivor.”
The landmark unscripted series is indeed CBS’ sole September “Survivor,” premiering its 47th season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Et. CBS will also air sneak peeks of two more entertainment series during the month: Newbie “Matlock,” starring Kathy Bates, will get an special early premiere on Sunday, Sept. 22, while new competition skein “The Summit” will also get a Sunday sneak, on Sept. 29.
But for the most part, CBS will wait until the week of October 14 to take the bow off its fall 2024 primetime package. In doing so, it runs the risk of competing for attention right when the presidential campaign could be at its apex.

Spartacus: House of Ashur is a new spin-off series exploring an alternate timeline of the original show. The new series assumes Ashur didn't die in season two of the original series, leading to an all-new storyline. Nick Tarabay reprises the role of Ashur, and new cast members include Graham McTavish and Ivana Baquero.
The Starz series Spartacus is getting a new life, but not the way fans might expect. Spartacus: House of Ashur, now in production in New Zealand, is not a revival or a reboot. Original series creator Steven S. DeKnight is taking an "alternate universe" approach, applying Marvel's "What If?" formula to an original character to create a whole new series, and Starz has now announced the cast that will bring it to life.
According to a report by Deadline, Nick Tarabay will reprise the role of Ashur, who died in the second season finale. The new series...

Deathstroke is officially coming to the DC Universe. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has confirmed that the fan-favorite supervillain will be part of the new DC shared universe.
Gunn recently responded to a fan on his latest Instagram post who had asked the filmmaker to "please wink if you have plans for Deathstroke." For his reply, Gunn simply posted the winky face emoji, confirming that DC Studios does indeed have plans for Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in the Dcu. Gunn's confirmation comes more than a year after he previously alluded to Deathstroke being part of his 10-year plan for the Dcu. One major problem that plagued most Arrowverse shows was CW’s inability to end them at the right time. While most of them started on a high note, especially Grant Gustin’s The Flash, which was the biggest superhero show on TV upon its release, the writers couldn’t carry the momentum in the later seasons. But things could have been very different for the CW show that started it all, Arrow.
Had CW stuck to the original plans for the show, Arrow could’ve ended on a really high note, as instead of going on for 8 seasons, season 5 was originally intended to be the show’s end.
