Bird and Fish Tank director Andrea Arnold plans to make the long-discussed FBI thriller Featherwood, starring Scarlett Johansson, as her next movie.
Indie director Andrea Arnold returned to her home turf in Kent to shoot Bird, the acclaimed drama (starring Barry Keoghan) released last year. If all goes to plan, she could be heading back to the United States for her next film – Featherwood, starring Scarlett Johansson.
In an interview with Screen Daily (via World Of Reel), Arnold reportedly said that, while a production date hasn’t been announced yet, she’s been on a location scouting tour in Texas.
Word of Featherwood – and Johansson’s attachment – first began to circulate last February. It’s based on the true-life story of Carol Blevins, the ‘property’ of a white supremacist gang member who became an FBI informant in a wide-ranging investigation in the 2000s. That investigation, in which Blevins became a key witness,...

There have been countless comic book adaptations over the years. For the better part of the 21st century, they have been the backbone of Hollywood's film industry, generating tens of billions of dollars. However, not every comic book-inspired movie can be a success at the box office. There have been many good comic book films that haven't performed well for various reasons.
The reasons why some good comic book movies succeed or fail are numerous. Some films were released at inopportune times for the industry, others had minimal marketing budgets, while some were well-made movies within franchises that had poor reputations. Needless to say, box office success does not always equate to quality—comic book adaptations are no exception.

Just a year ago, David Corenswet likely wasn't a name you'd heard. Now that the actor has been cast as Clark Kent in director James Gunn's upcoming "Superman" movie, however, you've probably been hearing his name quite a bit. Following an inauspicious end to the DC Extended Universe and an equally inauspicious end to Henry Cavill's run as the Man of Steel, Gunn announced that the newly-launched DC Studios' first film would be his "Superman" movie, led by none other than Corenswet.
This will no doubt prove to be Corenswet's breakthrough role. Prior to his casting in the inaugural DC Studios outing, the Juilliard alum had played a significant roles in several high-profile films and TV shows, from the projectionist in Ti West's A24 horror "Pearl" to aspiring actor Jack Castello in Ryan Murphy's "Hollywood" on Netflix. It was at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival where director Ned Benson first screened his two films back to back. The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him is about a marriage ending from the perspective of Conor, played by James McAvoy. The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her is that same story, but this time from the viewpoint of Eleanor, played by Jessica Chastain. The two films together are a unique cinematic experiment of telling one story from different angles. After the TIFF screening, producer Harvey Weinstein picked up the films for The Weinstein Company and requested a third cut that combined the stories. In September 2014, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them arrived in U.S. cinemas. A month later, the two other versions were also released. It is a story that merits multiple tellings, because when its presented as merely one film, most of the deeper meaning of the films gets lost.

It was also noted how Corenswet was always offering ideas on how to improve scenes, and Crute learned a lot from observing him at work. It has Crute feeling confident that Corenswet will continue to be a leading man for many more projects to come after starring in Superman.

Music can transport you. When you hear a song that brings back memories, it can be an exceptionally moving experience. However, in the new feature The Greatest Hits, those songs from the past can quite literally move you to another place and time. Written and directed by Ned Benson, the film cleverly intermingles sci-fi elements such as time travel, in a beautifully grounded way. It also features an excellent lead performance from Lucy Boynton, as well as the terrific Justin H. Min, David Corenswet, and Austin Crute. The story is original, refreshing, and will likely connect to anybody out there that loves music. It certainly did with me.
The last time I spoke with Lucy Boynton, it was for another project that had a ton of music. That would be Bohemian Rhapsody. Here, she shines as a woman who desperately attempts to change the past. Both Justin H. Min and Ms.

The Greatest Hits has the same premise as Press Play, with time travel & romantic fantasy elements. The Greatest Hits focuses more on grief & relationships, while Press Play centers on preventing death. The pacing of The Greatest Hits is better than Press Play, giving more substance & character development.
The Greatest Hits has an interesting premise of time travel, drama, and music, which was already done two years earlier – but The Greatest Hits did it better. Time travel is one of the most popular themes in film, and it has been used in pretty much every genre at some point. Time travel is also quite tricky as it poses big questions about its use and consequences, which more often than not only create confusion among the audience. Time travel has often been seen in romantic movies, and the latest example is The Greatest Hits.

In my review of The Greatest Hits, the new sci-fi romance from The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby writer/director Ned Benson, I mention that it opens with a montage of two young lovers “generally doing things that young, hip couples do in LA.” So, as someone from Los Angeles, I couldn’t help but pick the brains of Benson and stars Lucy Boynton and Justin H. Min about my hometown when I recently had the chance to sit down with them … in Chicago, where I now live. Because The Greatest Hits is a movie about the power of music to literally transport protagonist Harriet (Boynton) back in time, we also talked about music. But less specific artists (though some come up), and more the ways that...

The Greatest Hits stars Lucy Boynton as Harriet Gibbons, a woman grieving the tragic death of her boyfriend. She discovers an ability to travel back in time when triggered by certain songs they shared together. Harriet tries to save him but has failed repeatedly over the course of two miserable years. Her mission takes an unexpected turn when she meets David (Justin H. Min) at a group counseling session. They have an instant attraction. Harriet must choose to move on with David or continue to live in the past.
Min "feels incredible" when questioned about his heartthrob status as a romantic lead. He doesn't "really think about that kind of stuff" but loves "that audiences do feel pulled to both guys." No one here is a "hero" or "villain." Min thinks The Greatest Hits "allows for both to feel loved" and doesn't sway the audience "very easily towards one or the other.

The Greatest Hits explores themes of nostalgia and selflessness through Harriet's time-traveling journey. Lucy Boynton and Justin H. Harriet (Lucy Boynton) is struggling to deal with the loss of her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet), attending grief therapy two years after his passing. She figures out that certain songs will take her back in time, charting music shared in their relationship to revisit specific memories. Trying to remember the song that could unlock saving Max’s life, Harriet gets mixed up with David (Justin H. Min) in the present.
It goes without saying that a good soundtrack makes a movie — though that doesn’t necessarily mean one needs to dazzle in order to make a film worthwhile. However, if you are leading with sound first, it’s an unwritten given that your songs need to be in order and benefit the wider storyline. It might be The Greatest Hits in name, but...

And while the Black Widow prequel movie wasn’t one of Marvel’s best or most lucrative movies, it did conclude the story of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU, and introduced us to some new characters we are going to see in some of the upcoming movies. But, this article won’t be about the movie itself, as it is going to be about the complex creative process that led to the final product, as IndieWire had a talk with one of the story co-writers Ned Benson, who joined the production at a later date, rewriting the original pitch, but even his version did not end up being the final one.
Ned Benson had a short talk with IndieWire about a potential return to the MCU, seeing how his original collaboration with the large cinematic project didn’t turn out to be the best, but it seems that the filmmaker...

Ned Benson's (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby) latest movie, The Greatest Hits, explores more of the writer-director's favored themes of "dealing with loss and relationships and love," in what he calls a love letter to Los Angeles. Starring the Dcu's new Superman, David Corenswet, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Justin Min (The Umbrella Academy), and Austin Crute (Booksmart), this is a romantic drama with a genre twist: Harriet (Boynton) discovers she can time travel when she hears the right song from her past.

Nearly a decade after his ambitious first feature (which then became three features) and filmmaker Ned Benson is finally back on the big (and small) screen. His second film, “The Greatest Hits,” arrives ten years after his directorial debut, the 2014 breakout feature “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” And this time, Benson is letting his protagonist have a happily ever after … kind of.
During a recent interview, Benson told IndieWire that, in a similar twist to his “Eleanor Rigby” process, the script for “The Greatest Hits” was one he had been tinkering with for years, starting in 2008. Unlike “Eleanor Rigby,” which was eventually split into a “Him”/”Her”/”Them” mini trilogy, “The Greatest Hits” firmly centers on sole lead Harriet (Lucy Boynton), whose heartbreak leads to a music-induced time travel back to her past relationship with her late lover (David Corenswet) prior to his death.

After a premiere at the SXSW Film Festival last month, Ned Benson’s romantic drama The Greatest Hits is making its way to streaming on Hulu. The film, a love story with a unique sci-fi twist, is a crowd-pleasing charmer, and much of that is thanks to its stars, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy).
We at FandomWire had the opportunity to speak with Boynton and Min about their roles in the film before its release. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.

Ned Benson’s sophomore feature, The Greatest Hits, is a romantic drama following a young woman who travels back in time anytime she hears a song to the last time and place she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a charming film with an incredible soundtrack that will delight any musicophile, not that you would expect any less.
We at FandomWire spoke with Benson and the film’s composer, Ryan Lott (frontman of Son Lux and Oscar nominee for his work on Everything Everywhere All at Once), about their work on the film. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.

In The Greatest Hits, more so than many other films driven by music, the soundtrack essentially functions as a character. We asked the team behind the film where the song choices came into play — whether it was during the writing process or later in production.

Here comes another time-traveling fantasy, but with a twist. As the kids on Bandstand used to say to Dick Clark, “It’s a gotta’ good beat. You can dance to it”. Maybe you could even do the twist. That’s because the force to send this story back through the decades isn’t a big machine, like the one H.G. Welles conjured or even the beloved DeLorean that Doc Brown modified. Nor is it hypnosis ala’ Somewhere In Time, though the brain is involved along with…the ears. You see the gimmick here is music, specifically certain pop tunes that propel a twenty-something woman into the past. And just what is she doing six or seven years ago? Making “sure bet” investments perhaps? No, she’s trying to save a “lost love”, so this is really a romantic fantasy with a soundtrack that’s this couple’s take on...

Lucy Boynton plays a woman who can travel back in time with the power of a song in a high-concept, low-enjoyment fantasy
In the often insufferably cutesy romance The Greatest Hits, our heroine travels back in time whenever a song from her past is played, nostalgia acting as a magical, transporting force. While watching the film, we too are pulled back but rather to all of the far superior films we’re inconveniently reminded of, from High Fidelity to Richard Curtis’s similarly high-concept About Time to the ’00s Sundance breakouts (500) Days of Summer and Garden State. It’s a film about the power that great music has in distracting us from the now that instead showcases the power that great films have in distracting us from the lesser ones they inspire.
But even without the many whiffs of familiarity, writer-director Ned Benson’s film would still be hitting a bum note.

More than any other type of entertainment, music can take a person back in time. A specific note or lyric can toss a person to a memory or feeling—even one that had been otherwise forgotten—in such a visceral and powerful way. That type of obvious platitude that anyone who has ever listened to music already knows is the sort of thing that The Greatest Hits loves to tell its audience. From writer-director Ned Benson, the film is an earnest, yet extremely flawed time-travel romance that insists on explaining its themes and lessons to the viewer, as the characters continue to ignore these truths, all within a story that also avoids giving its audience key elements that are needed for it to actually work.

Hulu’s latest romance is going to pull at your heartstrings. The Greatest Hits, premiering April 12 on Hulu, follows Harriet (Lucy Boynton) two years after the loss of her boyfriend, Max (David Corenswet), in a car accident. In TV Insider’s sneak peek video, Boynton and the rest of the Greatest Hits crew explain Harriet and Max’s unique love story. “For the last two years, she’s realized every time she has a song that they listened to together, she’s thrown back in time,” Boynton says. Harriet believes that if “she can try something new every time she goes back, she will find a way to save him.” Ned Benson, the writer and director of The Greatest Hits, notes that Max was the “epitome of what love was supposed to be” for Harriet. “Because she never got the chance to see the relationship out, she’s kind of...

Easter is behind us, we’re into a new month, and we’re fully into spring … and yet, the box office might be hitting another lull. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
There aren’t many scenarios where “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” doesn’t win its second weekend at #1. Even with a steep drop from its Easter opening, it should still be able to bring in another $30 million this coming weekend, which will be hard to beat.
It might be a coin flip on which of the other two new wide releases might do better, but I have to give a slight edge to “The First Omen,” 20th Century’s prequel to a horror franchise that began all the way back in 1976 with the horror film, “The Omen,” directed by Richard Donner pre-“Superman.” That led to two sequels in 1978 and 1981, even though the original...

Searchlight Pictures announced on Tuesday that its dramedy A Real Pain, marking the sophomore feature of actor-turned-filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg, will hit theaters in the thick of awards season, on October 18.

The Greatest Hits Review: Solid Acting Chemistry Can't Keep This Messy Time Traveling Romance Afloat
Harriet can time travel by listening to songs from her past relationship with Max. Harriet struggles with the desire to save Max, rather than embrace a new love interest. Lucy Boynton and Justin H. Min shine in a messy film lacking emotional depth.
The Greatest Hits follows a once budding music producer, Harriet (Lucy Boynton), two years after a tragic car accident claimed the life of her boyfriend, Max (David Corenswet). The accident left her with a traumatic head injury that had an unusual consequence no medical professional can explain — she can time travel to specific moments in her relationship by listening to the songs that were playing in those situations. Hearing these songs instantly triggers Harriet and sends her back in time, where she desperately tries to alter reality and prevent her boyfriend's death.

When is a collection of dreamy, romantic, forlorn, and crestfallen moods just that and not actually much of a movie other than a series of sequences that sum up those big melancholy feelings with achingly dreamy music? Oooh, ooh! “The Greatest Hits,” filmmaker Ned Benson’s latest feature-length effort, would like to field this one. Built one too many many groan-worthy romantic clichés like the relationship breakup phrase, “it’s time to move on,” taken to an implausibly silly genre and literal level, Benson uses a flimsy neurological time travel conceit to tentatively move forward and heal his hopelessly heartbroken protagonist’s heart.

Although not selected for the phenomenal soundtrack for Ned Benson’s follow-up to his similarly themed The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Metric’s “Now or Never Now” nearly sums up the plot of his oft-sublime The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton), a librarian mourning the loss of her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet), is triggered by songs that marked their relationship. An obsessive cataloger (a great quality for a librarian), she has mapped-out the trajectory of their relationships in songs and memorabilia that she accesses in a controlled environment. For the rest of her life there are noise-canceling headphones that she uses to block out songs that send her back into the past.
