Despite positive reviews and record-breaking numbers upon release, Dexter: Resurrection hasn't turned out to be the breakout revival that Showtime would've liked. At least not yet. The series serves as a sequel to the poorly received Dexter: New Blood from a few years ago, which itself was a continuation of the original Dexter. Having premiered in 2006, the series became a key part of the Golden Age of Television, where it competed for attention with Lost, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and eventually, Game of Thrones. Dexter almost singlehandedly kept Showtime running, and its popularity needs no further proof than the numbers it's delivering now, over a decade after its conclusion. In fact, the original Dexter is outperforming Dexter: Resurrection.

Taylor Sheridan continues to dominate Paramount+'s viewership charts, but it has done so without claiming the streamer's number one spot. That honor goes to Tom Hardy's celebrated crime drama show with a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score that premiered in late March 2025.
Taylor Sheridan has four shows trending globally on Paramount+ – Yellowstone, 1923, Lioness, and Tulsa King. Yellowstone, one of the most popular shows of the 21st century, still impressively holds the number 2 spot on Paramount+ as of July 22, 2025.
1923, a Yellowstone prequel series that released its second season in February, currently ranks at #3. Lioness and Tulsa King, which both released their second seasons in Fall 2025, rank in the seventh and eighth spots, respectively. While Sheridan is all over the Paramount+ streaming board, Tom Hardy's MobLand is still #1.

Tom Hardy’s Underrated Crime Drama Leaves Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone in Dust on Paramount+ Charts
Tom Hardy has struck gold with MobLand, a British crime saga that has stealthily scaled Paramount+’s global streaming ladder to claim the #2 spot as of July 11, 2025. And it’s surprisingly surpassing Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which sits at #3 (per Flixpatrol). This isn’t merely a case of star power; MobLand offers a gritty narrative of warring crime families, anchored by Hardy’s portrayal of Harry Da Souza, the fixer caught in the crossfire of the Harrigan dynasty.
Created by Ronan Bennett, whose fingerprints are familiar from the groundbreaking Top Boy, MobLand is a meticulously crafted story drawing on authentic, lived experiences of gang culture, far removed from the sprawling American ranch drama that dominates Paramount+.

Tom Hardy's mob drama series, MobLand, continues to hold one of the top spots on Paramount+'s global streaming charts. The series, created by Ronan Bennett (Top Boy) and co-written by Jez Butterworth (The Agency), is quietly considered one of the best new original TV shows of 2025 by critics and audiences alike.

Paramount+ is bringing back its popular mob series for a second season. The announcement came not long after the first season finished streaming. The show features big-name stars like Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren, and is created by a team led by Guy Ritchie, Ronan Bennett, and Jez Butterworth.
Mob stories have always had a loyal following, and this one proved to be no different. The debut episode alone drew 26 million views within its first couple of months in English-speaking countries. It also took off quickly in other markets, making it the second biggest launch for an original Paramount+ series, just behind Landman.
The series became a regular on Nielsen’s Top 10 list for streaming originals, staying there for several weeks in a row. This strong performance led to the fast decision to continue the story with a second season.
Chris McCarthy from Paramount called the show a success.

Paramount+ said Monday that it has handed a Season 2 renewal to breakout new drama MobLand, starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The news, announced in a short video that you can watch below, comes three weeks after the series, from executive producer Guy Ritchie, creator, writer and exec producer Ronan Bennett, writer/exec producer Jez Butterworth, David C. Glasser’s 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios, wrapped its freshman run on the streaming platform.

Ballots for the 2025 Emmys have officially been released and voting is currently underway in all categories. For Best Drama Series Writing, there are 132 submissions, which means there will be six finalists for the category when nominations are announced July 15.
When it comes to writing, there are two strategic approaches when it comes to seeking a slot: submit one showcase episode or flood the zone. This year, as is often the case, practically all of the frontrunners are opting for the former tactic. This includes the incumbent winner Will Smith for Slow Horses, who is the only nominee from last year eligible again. He could win his second consecutive Emmy for the Season 4 finale, a shattering, suspenseful episode surrounding River Cartwright (Jack Lowden).
But what may stop Slow Horses in its tracks would be Severance, with "Cold Harbor," the Season 2 finale scripted by creator Dan Erickson. It's just as devastating, with...

This Emmy season, four starry Best Drama contenders put a spin on the venerable spy genre. Three newbies, “The Agency” (Paramount+/Showtime), “The Day of the Jackal” (Peacock), and “Black Doves” (Netflix) are already prepping their second seasons, while one established series, “Slow Horses” (AppleTV+) will premiere Season 5 on September 24.
“Slow Horses” Season 4 has already scored a number of critic and guild nominations, following nine Emmy Primetime nominations and one win (showrunner/writer Will Smith) for Season 3. Inevitably, while critically lauded and popular, in a competitive field, the new shows are playing catch-up with the already established “Slow Horses.” But this year, anything can happen.
Three of these shows are British, while the American “The Agency” just looks British: It’s set at the CIA London office, is written by the British Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, and stars Irish Michael Fassbender playing American and British actress Jodie Turner-Smith playing Sudanese.

In the 1971 novel “The Day of the Jackal” by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 film adaptation by Fred Zinnemann, there was not much of a question about who the Jackal was: a remorseless assassin who had been hired to kill French president Charles de Gaulle. Either he was going to die or de Gaulle was.
But Peacock’s new TV version, created by Ronan Bennett, is different — partly because it’s a continuing series, so you expect its title character to survive, and partly because the Jackal is played by Eddie Redmayne, whose innate likability means that we’re bound to root for him at least some of the time.
Redmayne’s Jackal is meticulous and relentless, but one of the conceits of the show is that the British detective who’s out to get him, played by Lashana Lynch, is as remorseless as her target, and almost as willing to bend the rules.

MobLand may be one of the grittiest crime dramas on TV right now, but even its fate is up in the air. Nearly a month after the Season 1 finale dropped on Paramount+, the streamer has yet to confirm whether or not the series will be returning for a second season. Still, fans aren’t letting that stop them from rallying behind the show keeping it in the global Top 10 — and they’re not alone.
Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren in a Shakespearean war of succession and betrayal set in the underbelly of Irish-British organized crime. The series currently holds a solid 75% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even stronger 77% audience score, reflecting just how invested viewers have become in the Harrigan empire's bloody chess game. While Paramount+ continues to play it coy, the cast has been vocal about their hopes to return.

Pierce Brosnan started the year strong with his performance opposite Tom Hardy in Guy Ritchie’s MobLand, but the former James Bond actor has just debuted a new project that is heading down a dangerous path. Brosnan stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson in The Unholy Trinity, a Western following a man caught between a sheriff determined to keep the peace and a stranger intent on burning it down. The Unholy Trinity debuted in select theaters this weekend, and the film has earned a disastrous 17% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were much kinder to the film, reviewing it at 65% on the Popcornmeter. These scores come from 18 and 100 reviews at the time of writing, respectively, so they are subject to change as more reviews come in.

MobLand fans are playing the waiting game with Paramount+ as the streamer has yet to reveal whether it will be renewing the project for a second season. In the almost one month since the Season 1 finale, audiences have been turning wherever they can to get more content like that of the Ronan Bennett-created production which stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. And, the show’s following aren’t the only ones being left in the lurch in hopes of a second set of episodes. Recently speaking with ScreenRant, series star Joanne Froggatt was clear about her optimistic outlook for Season 2.
“We're just hopeful. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Obviously, nothing's official yet, so yeah, we're just very hopeful to be able to carry on the story for sure. I'd love to.”

If you're still reeling from the explosive finale of MobLand Season 1, you're not alone — Pierce Brosnan is right there with you. The actor, who plays the razor-sharp but increasingly cornered, angry Irish crime boss Conrad Harrigan, says he hasn’t been told what comes next. And that’s exactly how he likes it. Speaking with Collider's Taylor Gates alongside Samuel L. Jackson— his co-star in the upcoming Western The Unholy Trinity — Brosnan was asked what he hopes to see if MobLand is renewed for a second season. He noted that he had no idea where the story would be going, only stating that he had his own ideas which he had yet to share with the show's creative minds:
“I honestly don't know what's going to happen. I have some ideas in my head, but I have not expressed those to Guy Ritchie or to Jez Butterworth or Ronan Bennett,...

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains some spoilers for the Season 1 finale of “MobLand.”]
Having just completed five movies and Guy Ritchie’s Shakespearean gangster series “MobLand,” Pierce Brosnan is kicking up his heels in Kauai. It’s the day after the airing of the Paramount+’s series bloody first season finale. He’s tired, but happy to declaim on a show that he and his wife Keely Shaye Smith enjoyed watching every week as it unfurled, commercials and all. “It is a toxic mess of pure mayhem and great shenanigans,” said Brosnan on Zoom.
Brosnan was the first in, after Ritchie sent him five scripts by showrunner Ronan Bennett. At first, Brosnan figured he was going for a North or South London accent: that’s where Conrad Harrigan bases his crime family. But Ritchie had other plans, said Brosnan: “In his shoot-from-the-hip style, with great bravado, he said, ‘Go Irish. Don’t worry about it. We’ll sort it out on the day.

In one of the most mind-boggling turn of events, Guy Ritchie delivered yet another masterpiece in the form of MobLand, which has been more than just winning the hearts of fans worldwide. With Pierce Brosnan as one of the leading prominent characters of the crime drama series, the show really did wonders enough to return for a season 2.
Of course, the hope about the series getting revived for a second season is still high, with Tom Hardy already getting everyone’s hopes up about the same. But he isn’t the only one who wants to return to the saga, considering how even Brosnan recently admitted that he is ready to “go again” despite having a big heartbreaking regret about the first season.

Tom Hardy In MobLand Paramount+ Comeback (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Hardy’s gritty crime series MobLand climbed back into the spotlight after vanishing from the Paramount+ charts for a few weeks. It pulled off a sharp turnaround as the show wrapped up its debut season and locked in the number two spot on the platform’s viewership rankings on June 2 and 3. This put the show ahead of every single title from Taylor Sheridan, who usually dominates the service with his growing list of hit dramas.
MobLand Outperforms Sheridan’s Biggest Paramount+ Hits
Sheridan’s shows like Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and 1883 have become Paramount+ mainstays. But for two days, MobLand grabbed more attention than any of them. It earned 231 points on June 3, while Tulsa King managed 176, and Yellowstone sat at 143, according to FlixPatrol. Even earlier in the season, MobLand was outscoring some of Sheridan’s spin offs like 1923 and 1883. However,...

Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant had long wanted to adapt Frederick Forsyth's 1971 novel The Day of the Jackal, which had already been turned into a 1973 film directed by Fred Zinneman and starring Edward Fox. But they had always tabled the discussion because "I don't think think the film can be bettered," Neame tells Gold Derby.
"Several rounds we just said, 'No, we're not gonna do anything with this. We're not gonna pursue it,'" he continues.
But the producing duo could never forget about it and eventually found a way to put their own spin on the spy thriller: by bringing the cat-and-mouse chase into the 21st century as a 10-episode TV series to delve deeper into the psyche of the titular assassin.
And it worked. The Day of the Jackal has been a hit for Peacock and Sky and was renewed for a second season before the first one ended.

After disappearing from the Paramount+ streaming charts for a few weeks, the crime drama series MobLand had a major resurgence as it concluded its debut season this month. MobLand took the number two spot on the Paramount+ viewership charts on June 2 and June 3, challenging Taylor Sheridan's dominance on the streamer, which practically survives on the popularity of his output. Sheridan has several shows on the Paramount+ service, but on June 2 and June 3, none of them could outperform MobLand. Created by Ronan Bennett and starring Tom Hardy, the show opened to mostly positive reviews, but had an uneven run.

The Harrigans are bloodied, broken, and behind bars — but if Pierce Brosnan is to be believed, they’re not even close to finished. Following MobLand’s explosive Season 1 finale, which saw betrayals, shocking deaths, and a prison cheer fit for a kingpin, Brosnan is already teasing what’s next for the Irish crime family. And though the show hasn’t been officially renewed just yet, he’s already made his intentions clear. Brosnan has been speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in the wake of the finale, and revealed there's more to come.
“Yes, we have spoken about that and I would very much like to see more seasons. There’s a lot of life (laughs) and death within this family and these storylines.”

MobLandstar Pierce Brosnan discusses the "cinematic homage" in the series' first season finale.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan opened up about the finale scene of the recently released MobLand Season 1 finale, which sees a legion of prisoners all cheering on his Conrad Harrigan. "In the film, you’ll see Noël Coward come down to the gantry in the prison being applauded by the prisoners. Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers for the Season Finale of MobLand
Season 1 of MobLand came to an epic conclusion yesterday on Paramount+, leaving many to question the fate of Tom Hardy's character of Harry Da Souza. After neglecting his home life for the better part of the show's 10 episodes, Harry tried to make things right with his wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt), who was having none of it. After an explosive outburst, she accidentally stabbed her husband in the chest, and while he at first tried to play it off as no big deal, Harry had to take a seat at the end of the scene. With the knife still firmly implanted in him, we're now left to wonder: Is the wound fatal?

MobLand (2025) is a British crime thriller created by Ronan Bennett, known for Ray Donovan. The Paramount+ series stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a calm but sharp fixer for the Harrigan family—an Irish crime clan based in London. The family is led by Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan), though it’s Maeve Harrigan (Helen Mirren) who really runs the show from the background.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Anthony Byrne, Daniel Syrkin, and Lawrence Gough, Season 1 builds a world shaped by power struggles, loyalty, and quiet betrayals. As the man trusted to handle the dirty work, Harry moves between boardroom-style decisions and street-level chaos, doing whatever it takes to keep the Harrigan empire intact.
In this article, I’ll take a deep dive into the series explaining what happened across the season and break down the ending. Please be aware – the article contains spoilers, reader’s discretion is advised.

There’s only one episode remaining in Guy Ritchie’s new crime series, MobLand, which features a top-heavy roster of talent. Leading the charge is Tom Hardy as Harry da Souza, and starring alongside him are Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as Conrad Harrigan and Maeve Harrigan, respectively. The show follows Souza, a street-smart fixer who finds himself in the middle of two families warring for power. The Harrigans are an Irish crime family who operate in London in MobLand, and one of the stars has come under fire for his Irish accent. Fans have criticized Brosnan’s accent in the series, so much so that he’s finally clapped back at the haters. During an interview with Radio Times, Brosnan, who was born in Ireland and moved to England when he was young, spoke about this and even mentioned how much Conrad’s accent differs from his own, which...

MobLandstar Pierce Brosnan recently opened up about the reaction to his Irish accent in the hit series. The actor also explained how he came up with the intonation.

Paramount+ is going all-in on its critically acclaimed British crime drama “MobLand.”
Revealed to Variety exclusively, the company is launching an ambitious Emmy campaign that surprisingly places both Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan in the running for lead drama actor. The decision to push Brosnan as a co-lead — rather than a supporting contender as many had assumed — is one of several surprising moves in the streamer’s Emmy strategy.
Helen Mirren, meanwhile, will compete for supporting drama actress, avoiding a head-to-head clash with her own work in “1923,” Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama, where she is considered a possible contender for lead drama actress.

The finale of Tom Hardy’s new series, MobLand, grows ever nearer, as the fate of two rival families and Harry Da Souza's (Hardy) middle-man fixer hangs in the balance. In recent weeks, it seems like the Guy Ritchie-directed series from creator Ronan Bennett and writer Jez Butterworth has been growing from strength to strength, as the twists and turns of any good crime tale keep viewers hooked.
This is something reflected by the trend of the series' ratings on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, which, when the series began, showcased just a 65% audience score and a "certified fresh" 78% approval rating from critics. Although the critic rating has dropped slightly since, as more reviews have leveled out in opinion, it is the audience score that neatly reflects the trajectory in quality MobLand has had, with the score having since risen by 9% to 74%, matching the views of critics.

Although the critic rating has dropped slightly since, as more reviews have leveled out in opinion, it is the audience score that neatly reflects the trajectory in quality MobLand has had, with the score having since risen by 9% to 74%, matching the views of critics.

Following a magnificent premiere several weeks ago, writer Ronan Bennett and director Guy Ritchie’s crime drama series MobLand appeared to be leaking audiences with every passing episode. For some time, it was even able to challenge some of Taylor Sheridan’s shows on the Paramount+ charts. But this early success was short-lived; the show began to slip, while Sheridan reasserted his dominance over his stronghold. However, MobLand recently reclaimed a spot on the top 10 charts as it charges towards its season finale. On Sunday, the show snuck into the top 10, but only just.
According to FlixPatrol, MobLandtook the 10th spot on the Paramount+ charts on May 19, scoring 46 points. The show has earned a total of over 1,500 points in total during its run, which is nothing compared to the kind of figures that some of Sheridan’s shows have been posting on FlixPatrol. For instance, Yellowstone, which took the third...

Though Eddie Redmayne currently stars in “The Day of the Jackal,” one of the most acclaimed new shows of the year, he still has time to check out other television programs – including the buzzy HBO hit “The White Lotus.” But the Oscar winner isn’t throwing his hat into the casting ring for an upcoming season.
“I’m too paranoid about butchering the things I love,” he tells Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast. “There are some things you don’t want to see yourself in because you don’t want to ruin it.” Even the fact that the show shoots in beautiful locations isn’t enough to convince the actor. “You say that, but also you have to be topless for the entire thing. And if you’re pasty and moley like me…I just don’t think the world needs to see my pallid body.”

Meet the Makers: The Day of the Jackal & Lockerbie: A Search for Truth
The morning kicked off with a pair of powerful dramas from executive producers Nigel Marchant and Gareth Neame of Carnival Films, the company responsible for such hits as “Downton Abbey” and “The Gilded Age.” Marchant noted that if their projects had a common theme, it was world-building. “I think that’s what we’re really good at — really looking at what entertains us is going to entertain an audience.”
Both “Jackal” and “Lockerbie” are currently streaming on Peacock and feature standout lead performances from Oscar-winning actors. In “Jackal,” Eddie Redmayne plays the titular assassin, who takes on many disguises. “He’s such a meticulous actor,” said Marchant. “He had to learn different languages, he [worked] with movement coaches, he had to have all of the prosthetics [work] and he really embraced all of that.”

Tom Hardy’s new series, MobLand, has only three episodes remaining in its first season, but the show has been mostly well-received thus far. Hailing from creator Ronan Bennett and writer Jez Butterworth, Guy Ritchie directed several episodes of the Paramount+ series. While it may be a surprise, especially considering their overlap in styles, MobLand marks the first project of Ritchie’s that Hardy has starred in. The series follows Harry Da Souza (Hardy), a local crime fixer who is caught in the middle of two warring crime families. Hardy recently sat down for a tell-all interview with Esquire to talk about MobLand and his other new project, Havoc, and he revealed that he hasn’t always been the hottest on some of Ritchie’s projects:
"I love Guy Ritchie when he’s on, right? I don’t like his take on ‘Oi oi, awight mate! Awight geezah!’ I’m not really into that.

After surrendering territory to Guy Ritchie and his cohorts recently, the streaming maven Taylor Sheridan is back for revenge. Three of Sheridan's shows found spots on the Paramount+ streaming charts, pushing Ritchie's crime drama MobLand outside the top 10. Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand premiered to exemplary viewership figures some weeks ago, and will conclude its inaugural season in June. Through most of its run, MobLand was able to dominate the Paramount+ charts, pushing Sheridan's shows down to levels they'd rarely seen in the past.
In the last few days, however, MobLandis nowhere to be seen in the top 10; this suggests a worryingly high drop-off rate, which is never a great sign for television. Return viewership for Sheridan's output, on the other hand, seems to be solid. According to FlixPatrol, Yellowstone took the number four spot on the Paramount+ charts on Tuesday, Lioness claimed the number seven spot, and...
