AMC Networks’ Upfront Strategy Puts More Spotlight on Streaming
Image
AMC Networks wants advertisers to pay more attention to its non-tv assets.

The company, which owns cable outlets like AMC and IFC along with niche streamers such as Shudder and Acorn, intends to give Madison Avenue a reason to consider all its venues, not just the biggest ones. “We’re really expanding what we cover beyond the just the core franchises, which are always obviously our mainstay, but into some of the brands that we’ve developed, like Shudder and Acorn that really deserve their own stage moment,” says Kim Kelleher, the company’s chief commercial officer, during a recent interview.

Among the company’s new offerings in this year’s soon-to-launch “upfront” market are the chance to link advertising across AMC, Shudder and the dynamic Las Vegas venue Sphere, which is backed by AMC Networks’ controlling shareholder, the Dolan family. In October, advertisers in the company’s annual “Fear...

Stars: Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris, Benjamin Bratt | Written by Robin Bernheim | Directed by Mark Waters

When daughter Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) turns up out of the blue to reveal she’s engaged, Lana (Brooke Shields) can’t believe what she’s hearing. The adventure takes them to a luxury resort in Phuket, where Emma and her fiance Rj (Sean Teale) have planned the entire wedding down to the finest detail. What Lana doesn’t realize is who Rj’s father is, learning that Will (Benjamin Bratt) was the man who broke her heart years ago.

It only takes a few moments to realize why any actor would have signed up to film Mother of the Bride without so much as reading a script. The movie is essentially an all-expenses-paid jolly, with its glittering cast getting to hang out at a luxurious resort most could...

Brooke Shields New Netflix Movie Misfire Is More Upsetting After Her 3-Year-Old Rom-Com With 75% On Rt
Image
Negative reviews led to a dismal 22% Rotten Tomatoes score for Mother of the Bride. This score is disappointing compared to her well-reviewed 2021 Netflix movie A Castle for Christmas. A Castle for Christmas earned a 75% score largely due to the chemistry between Shields and her co-star Cary Elwes.

Mother of the Bride has been a critical disappointment compared to Brooke Shields' rom-com success from three years ago. The new Netflix original movie, which also stars Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris, and Benjamin Bratt, was written by Robin Bernheim, who has previously collaborated with Netflix on the Princess Switch trilogy and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding. It was directed by Mark Waters, whose most prominent credits include the 2000s teen classics Mean Girls and Freaky Friday.

Chad Michael Murrays New Netflix Movie Is A Subtle Follow-Up To His 21-Year-Old Lindsay Lohan Comedy
Image
Chad Michael Murray's role in Mother of the Bride connects to his 2003 comedy Freaky Friday. In addition to another big connection, both movies feature him falling in love with single mothers. Murray's role in Mother of the Bride proves he should return for Freaky Friday 2 with Lohan and Curtis.

Mother of the Bride contains a subtle connection to one of star Chad Michael Murray's early comedy movies with Lindsay Lohan. The new movie, which is unrelated to the Father of the Bride franchise, is a Netflix original romantic comedy that also stars Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Rachael Harris, and Benjamin Bratt. It comes from a screenplay by Robin Bernheim, whose previous collaborations with the streaming service include the Princess Switch trilogy and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.

‘Mother of the Bride’ Duo Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove on Navigating Child Stardom, Finding Their Voices on Set and Rom-Coms
Image
On paper, Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove share a lot in common. They both began their professional careers as child models who went on to find early success as actors. While Shields rose to fame in late-’70s and ’80s films (Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon, Endless Love), Cosgrove made a name for herself in the aughts on small-screen sitcoms (iCarly, Drake & Josh). As young women growing up in Hollywood, they both became cultural touchstones for their respective generations but, in turn, were forced to weather intense scrutiny under the limelight.

In that respect, it seems particularly fitting that Shields and Cosgrove would team up to play mother and daughter in Mother of the Bride, which launched Thursday on Netflix. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) and written by Robin Bernheim (The Princess Switch), the breezy new romantic comedy follows Shields’ Lana, a widowed single mother and world-renowned...

‘Mother of the Bride’ Review: Brooke Shields Says I Do to Netflix’s Aggressively Inoffensive Rom-Com
Image
After “Ticket to Paradise” and “Shotgun Wedding” showed us the different ways in which calamity ensues when planning weddings abroad, Netflix releases “Mother of the Bride,” which combines the essential elements of both those recent romantic comedies into one passable package. The far-off setting emphasizes the lavish and luxe, though the narrative is cheaply woven and fairly threadbare. While “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters’ latest fails to add anything unique to the conversation, it does scrounge up a modest amount of heart when it comes to its saccharine sweet message of never giving up on happily ever after.

Mere seconds after her extravagant proposal, Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) begins fretting to her fiancé Rj (Sean Teale) about how to frame their engagement to her judgmental widowed mom Dr. Lana Winslow (Brooke Shields), who doesn’t even know her only child has a steady beau. Cue zany, plucky score. Mom’s been busy saving the world,...

Weddings are always social minefields. But when your daughter is marrying your ex’s son? How do you assign that seating chart?

Brooke Shields is about to find out in Mother of the Bride, a new rom-com directed by Mark Waters from a script by Robin Bernheim, who penned the Princess Switch trilogy. Castle for Christmas star Shields will appear alongside an all-star ensemble of wedding attendants in the nuptial slapstick comedy, and we’ve got all the hot wedding gossip you could possibly ask for.

“It was a nice film because it was like an actual destination wedding where you really have nobody to hang out with but the other people in the wedding,” director Waters says of the production, which filmed in Thailand. “We were all living in the same hotels and going to the same restaurant, so everyone naturally became friends.”

Vanessa Hudgens Pulls the Old Switcheroo in Netflix's Princess Switch Trailer
Who doesn't love a good switcheroo movie? Netflix obviously does, as they have just announced The Princess Switch as one of their big holiday releases. It stars Vanessa Hudgens and Vanessa Hudgens in a tale that is as old as rice, and still just as delicious.

There are two types of switcheroo movies that have become quite popular over the last couple of decades. The first is where two people swap bodies, as popularized in Freaky Friday and the dozen of copy cat comedies that arrived in its wake, including Like Father, Like Son and the much more recent The Change-Up.
