Igniting controversy upon its festival run at Venice and TIFF last fall, followed by its release in Mexico, Michel Franco’s New Order was criticized for its racial stereotypes as the story depicts a violent class divide at a wedding, with a darker-skinned lower class attacking a lighter-skinned upper class. Exclusive: Arthouse outfit Mubi has struck a deal with sales firm The Match Factory for all UK and Ireland rights to Michel Franco’s Venice Film Festival drama New Order, which won the festival’s Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize.

“New Order” also made its North American premiere at Toronto and will next play at the BFI London Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival. Neon is planning a theatrical release for the film but will announce release plans at a later date.

Amazon has given the formal green light to a comedy pilot written and directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta (Everybody Loves Somebody). Lorenza Izzo (Life Itself) is set as the lead in the untitled project for Amazon Prime Video, with Georgie Flores (Famous in Love), Giancarlo Vidrio (El Vato), Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge), Sarah Ramos and Patricia Bernal (Everybody Loves Somebody) also cast.
