The True Story Behind the Griselda Ending: What Happened to Griselda Blanco?
Image
They say the truth is stranger than fiction, but in the real world of Griselda Blanco, the truth is more brutal.

Inspired by the true story of Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco and starring Sofía Vergara (who also serves as executive producer) as the ambitious and murderous Miami cartel head, Griselda tracks the dramatized life, business acumen, and downfall of “the Godmother,” one of America’s highest earning drug traffickers in the ’70s and ’80s… and one of the most deadly.

She went by many nicknames: “La Madrina,” “The Black Widow,” “La Dama de la Mafia.” But for her foes, the name Griselda became synonymous with death.

With six hour-long episodes, Griselda was created by Eric Newman (Painkiller) and Andrés Baiz — who directs every episode — reuniting the team behind Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard serve as co-creators and executive produced the series...

Damon stars alongside Pedro Pascal in The Great Wall, the 2016 historical action epic following a group of European mercenaries who encounter a secret army that defends the Great Wall of China against deadly creatures. The Great Wall began streaming on HBO Max at the start of July, and it’s become one of the most popular movies in America, sitting at #5 at the time of writing. The film earned abysmal scores of 35% from critics and 42% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it even turned a profit off its $150 million budget by grossing $334 million globally.

The Great Wall was plagued with controversy even before its release, but once the film hit theaters, things didn’t get any easier.

Sofia Vergara has earned her fifth Emmy Award nomination today for her portrayal of real-life drug queenpin Griselda Blanco in the Netflix miniseries Griselda, the first dramatic role of her career. Netflix's New Crime Drama Is The Perfect Narcos Replacement, 3 Years After Hit Spinoff
Image
Griselda, the new Netflix crime series, is a perfect replacement for Narcos and has received critical acclaim. Sofia Vergara delivers a transformative performance as the real-life queenpin Griselda Blanco, showcasing her unprecedented rank in the Colombian cartel. Griselda maintains the stylistic and thematic similarities of Narcos, but focuses more acutely on its protagonist and differentiates itself from the Escobar-centric series.

The new Netflix crime series Griselda is the perfect replacement for the celebrated series Narcos, even three years after its successful spinoff Narcos: Mexico. The original Narcos series was one of the earliest popular original series on the giant streaming platform, premiering back in 2015 only two years after House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Narcos, which was created by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, and Chris Brancato, quickly earned critical acclaim and is still considered one of the greatest Netflix series ever made.

It’s not all laughs for Sofía Vergara in Griselda.

Beneath the glitz and glamour of ’70s and ’80s Miami lies a much darker side — and an antihero playing a dangerous game. With her lethal blend of savagery and charm, Griselda navigates business and family as she rises to the top of the industry, earning the title of “the Godmother.”

Available to stream on Netflix now, Griselda reunites the team behind Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, including Newman, Baiz, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard, who all serve as executive producers, alongside Vergara and Luis Balaguer with Latin World Entertainment. Who Killed Griselda Blanco? What Happened To Her In Real Life

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Griselda on Netflix.

The Netflix miniseries "Griselda" does not depict the death of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug lord. Blanco was released from prison in 2004 due to health issues and lived a quiet life until she was assassinated in 2012. The producers of "Griselda" chose not to show Blanco's death as they prioritized capturing the emotional truth of her story.

Griselda Rotten Tomatoes Score Falls Short Of Similar Netflix Crime Shows
Image
Griselda has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% with 33 reviews, though this score could fluctuate as more reviews are added. This score puts the show just behind Narcos (89%) and Narcos: Mexico (90%), which both hail from the same creators. Griselda is similar to its two predecessors in terms of its setting, strong performances, and approach to tackling real-life historical events and figures.

Griselda's Rotten Tomatoes score is here, and it fails to beat some other very similar Netflix crime shows. Created by Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, Eric Newman, and Ingrid Escajeda, the first two of whom also created Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, the new Netflix series stars Sofia Vergara as real-life figure Griselda Blanco. The show charts Blanco's life from Medellín to Miami as she rises to become the leader of one of the most powerful cartels in history.

Following Griselda's release on Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes reveals the show's critics score to be,...

Narcos became one of the most impressive early Netflix hits, and that success allowed the creators to come up with several seasons of the show and a number of spin-offs. Griselda, the new miniseries from Netflix, serves as one of those spin-offs bringing the story of Griselda Blanco to the screen and giving the role to Sofía Vergara in a role that certainly feels out of her comfort zone, and yet, the actress is wholly committed to it. ‘Griselda’ Boss on Sofía Vergara’s Dramatic Transformation: “She Does Terrible Things”
Image
While Sofía Vergara was delighting millions of viewers for more than a decade as Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family, she was thinking about Griselda Blanco.

For 15 years, Vergara pored over the life of the woman known as the cocaine trade pioneer — who also earned the nicknames “The Godmother” and “The Black Widow” — for transforming the drug trade from Colombia to the United States, making her biggest mark in Miami, in the 1970s to the early 2000s.

Narcos boss Eric Newman had also spent time thinking about Blanco. The executive producer behind Netflix’s hit drug cartel franchise says he always wanted to tell the Colombian queenpin’s story and even considered bringing her into the Narcos fold while working the flagship series and spinoff Narcos: Mexico.

“The challenge that I found immediately with Griselda [Blanco] is that her story is so compelling; she’s such an anomaly,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Griselda’ Review: A Sofia Vergara Showcase Encased in Predictable Drug Drama
Image
If you watch enough TV, you should place bets on Netflix’s “Griselda.”

The limited series, from Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz of “Narcos,” stars Sofia Vergara as real-life drug boss Griselda Blanco. Even though it’s based on a real person, the limited series’ beats are visible from miles away, and it’s the rare show that feels like it could’ve used two extra episodes if only to avoid an abrupt ending.

Baiz directs the series, with Vergara on the executive production team that also includes co-creators Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard (Escajeda and Miro serve as showrunners). To drive home the “Narcos” parallels — or at least to pull in the hit show’s audience — “Griselda” opens with a quote from Pablo Escobar himself: “The only man I ever feared was a woman named Griselda Blanco.”

The quote is revealed in three parts — the beginning, the...

‘Griselda’ Review: Sofia Vergara Lends Netflix’s Overly Soft Griselda Blanco Series Some Much-Needed Steel
Image
Hollywood likes to pretend that it’s in a constant state of self-improvement, and that the days of blackface and Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi are far in the past. But we aren’t that far removed from Zoe Saldaña playing Nina Simone, FX casting a white British actor as a budding Middle Eastern despot in Tyrant or Catherine Zeta-Jones playing notorious Colombian drug kingpin Griselda Blanco in Lifetime’s Cocaine Godmother.

I hope we can all agree that whatever divine and legal sanctions she deserved for being, by all accounts, quite monstrous at times, Griselda Blanco did not deserve the throughly bizarro accent and makeup job that accompanied Zeta-Jones’ performance in Cocaine Godmother.

If nothing else, Netflix’s six-part Griselda is an adequate representational corrective. Colombian actress Sofía Vergara plays Blanco, with a latex job that doesn’t really make her look like Griselda Blanco, but definitely makes her look like “Not Sofía Vergara.

Following the success of the Narcos franchise, Netflix is diving headfirst back into another biographic series about the drug empire led by Griselda Blanco with Sofia Vergara. The new limited series, consisting of six episodes, is coming to Netflix globally in January 2024. Here’s what you need to know about Griselda.

News of the show first came about in November 2021, with Illuminerdi first reporting that a Narcos spin-off was in development with the same team. Days later, we also reported that the show was in development, and just a day after that, Netflix officially unveiled the title but was keen to stress that “there is no association or crossover between the shows.”

It’s taken a long time for Griselda to come to our screen. It reportedly took Latin World Entertainment eight years for the series to be picked up by a network.

National Treasure 3: Predicting What's On Page 47
Image
National Treasure 3 development has stalled due to Disney's shifting priorities, but the potential storyline involving the mystery of Page 47 has already been set up. Page 47 could contain information about the missing 18-and-a-half minutes from the Watergate Tapes, which would be a compelling storyline for National Treasure 3. The existence of the Georgia Guidestones and the secretive Bohemian Club could provide intriguing narratives for National Treasure 3, possibly involving the President and uncovering hidden societies.

It has been heavily speculated what is on page 47 in the President's Book of Secrets in National Treasure 2, and the National Treasure Page 47 mystery could be the premise for the long-awaited National Treasure 3. 2004's National Treasure was a promising movie that had the potential to develop into a long-running, profitable franchise for Disney. The movie stars Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha. National Treasure followed protagonists Ben, Abigail, and Riley on...
