Robert Eggers' Nosferatu has divided many critics and audiences. Some have praised the film, whereas others have seen it as something that pales in comparison to the original by F.W. Murnau and its later adaptation, Nosferatu: The Vampyre, directed by Wener Herzog. The influence of Nosferatu extends well beyond its original release over a century ago, from the images of skeletonized templar knights rising from their coffins in The Ghost Galleon to a character named after Graf Orlok and portrayed by Boris Karloff in the movie Targets. This year, the Romanian director has another film included in the Tiff Romanian Days section. It’s his second feature, it’s a documentary (although not a classic documentary), and it’s called Bucharestless. The film was shot on miniDV with a $1500 dollar budget. Dorobanțu is the director, the scriptwriter, the cinematographer and also the editor. He worked with Alexandra M. Păun (producer and cinematographer) and with Lex Dumitru (music composer). The filmmaker who gave us The Way I Spent The End of The World, back in 2005, has finished working to his second feature - Loverboy, based on a screenplay previously entitled "A Heart-Shaped Balloon." Mitulescu's film tells the story of Luca, a 20 year-old young guy who lives in Hârşova, a small town near the Danube. Luca seduces girls, makes them fall in love with him and passes them on to a human trafficking network in Constanţa. The policemen call this technique the “falling in love” method and the ones doing it are named “loverboys”. Luca's life changes when he falls in love with a girl named Veli. He's willing to give up everything he did before to be with her. The film stars George Piştereanu and Ada Condeescu, while the shooting took place in Contanţa and its surroundings, although for the last two days of shooting the entire team moved to Bucharest.
