Your favorite animated fairies are finally back. Netflix is bringing back The Winx Club series in a major way with The Winx Club: The Magic is Back — an all-new series that hopes to capture the magic of a franchise that has been beloved by many for over two decades. The brand-new trailer introduces the ambitious new series, three years after the live-action series, Fate: The Winx Saga, ended.
This series is now the second animated installment of the Winx Club, following the original series' premiere in 2004. That series, The Winx Club, ran for eight seasons and was produced by Rainbow, and eventually co-produced with Nickelodeon. After the series came to a close (including a revival in 2010), Netflix took a different approach to the series, making a darker live-action adaptation called Fate: The Winx Saga. The series starred Abigail Cowen as Bloom. Other cast included Eve Best (House of the Dragon), Danny Griffin,...

Nurse Jackie ended on an ambiguous note 10 years ago, and even now, the Showtime dramedy’s cliffhanger of a finale still has fans frustrated. So what exactly happened in the series closer, and why? Let’s revisit the final moments of the show and what people said about it below. Spoilers ahead! The show ended on an inconclusive note. In that series finale, Season 7’s “I Say a Little Prayer,” Edie Falco’s titular character is back in scrubs following a nursing license hearing about her substance abuse, and she gets a job offer from Bellevue Hospital, a lifeline out of the soon-to-close All Saints Hospital. All seems well, but Jackie’s former coworker Eleanor (Eve Best) is right to think Jackie has relapsed in her addiction recovery. At a farewell party with her coworkers — including mentee-turned-minder Zoey (Merritt Wever) — Jackie snorts lines of heroin and overdoses, collapsing to the...

When creating the vocal personalities of the titular fire breathers in HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” sound designer Paula Fairfield starts by giving them a story.
Whether it’s “old lady” Vhagar, or “white boy who thinks he can rap” Caraxes, or the “fidgety” 13-year-old Taylor Swift fan in Syrax, this is how Fairfield gets to know the creatures at her fingertips — and keep them straight.
That was crucial in Season 2, when more dragons took to the skies than ever before in the “Game of Thrones” universe as two factions of the Targaryen dynasty unleashed war on each other from the backs of their winged companions. But fans of author George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” know the prequel is actually a history of the downfall of the Targaryens and their dragon bloodline.

HBO is filming the third season of House of the Dragon as we speak. War is afoot in Westeros, as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother King Aegon Targaryen fight for the Iron Throne.
The season will open with a big action sequence called the Battle of the Gullet, where Corlys Velaryon's fleet of ships will face off against a pirate fleet led by Sharako Lohar. It'll be the first big sea battle depicted in the Game of Thrones universe, and the cast and crew have been talking it up a lot.
"No spoilers, but what we have planned for this season is huge," Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys, told Awards Radar. "The are some things that I have been told that I’ve never done on television before. It’s amazing! We were walking around the set just a couple of days ago, discussing the details on the paintings...

According to Gold Derby, the network has submitted House of the Dragon for a total of 40 potential awards.
Obviously, it's submitted the show for Best Drama Series, the top award of the night. It's submitted 10 actors for consideration. Emma D'Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) is the only actor they've put forward for one of the lead categories. Seven others have been submitted in supporting actor categories: Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon Targaryen), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen). The struggle for the Iron Throne between the rightful ruler, Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), and her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) in House of the Dragon, has come at a significant cost. The Blacks lost Prince Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) in Season 1 and the Greens also suffered the loss of Aegon's dragon, Sunfyre, which died in Season 2. Season 2 also saw the passing of the regal character of Rhaenys Targaryen, played by Eve Best, leaving behind her husband, the much-feared Lord of the Tides, Lord Corlys, alone. Steve Toussaint, who plays the character, has discussed the pain of that loss.
"It's probably the loss of my sparring partner, my confidante, Eve Best," Toussaint responded to Gold Derby when quizzed regarding what stands out in Season 2. "I know it sounds silly because we're just acting, but it's the most wrenching thing that she will not be there to continue the...

Steve Toussaint plays experienced seafarer Corlys Velaryon on House of the Dragon. In the first season, we watched Corlys' life play out over several years; he lost both of his adult children, and at the end of the season lost one of his grandchildren. He's been through it, and will likely still be smarting when the show returns for a third season.
Looking back on season 2, Toussaint named the loss of Corlys' wife Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) as the thing he remembers most. "I know it sounds silly because we're just acting, but it's the most wrenching thing that she will not be there to continue the journey with me and the rest of us," he told Gold Derby. "And then it's trying to portray several kinds of grief throughout the season, because at the beginning, he's still grieving his children and his grandchild, and then in the middle of that season — wham!

In Season 2 of House of the Dragon, viewers learned that Steve Toussaint's Lord Corlys Velaryon had two sons, Alyn and Addam, outside of his marriage to Eve Best's Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. "We had built Corlys up to be this man of virtue and so forth," Toussaint tells Gold Derby. "And then suddenly to find out that? It did take a little bit of mental working out for me to get my mind around the timeline for him," the actor admits.
Also this season, Corlys dealt with the devastating death of his wife Rhaenys, which meant Best left the series. "There were tears on my part," Toussaint admits about saying goodbye to his costar, whom he calls his "sparring partner" and "confidante." As he explains, "In a business full of lovely, charismatic people, to have a connection like that with somebody is still a rarity. And so I'm very...

When dragons take flight, kingdoms burn. And House of the Dragon Season 3 is fanning the flames for what might be its most explosive chapter yet. Fire, blood, betrayal—it’s all brewing into a full-blown Targaryen inferno. Though it started slower than a raven in winter, HBO’s first Game of Thrones spin-off has found its fire. House of the Dragon has gone from cautious political plays to fiery clashes, with fans once again rallying under the banners of George R.R. Martin’s epic world.
And if whispers from the realm are true, Season 3 could rival the best of Thrones—think “Battle of the Bastards” level mayhem with dragons added to the mix.

For the uninitiated, House of the Dragon draws from Martin’s Fire & Blood, set 200 years before Game Of Thrones. It’s the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

One of the most talked-about deaths in House of the Dragon happened in Season 2 after Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon, Meleys, fought Aemond and Aegon with their respective dragons, Vhagar and Sunfyre, during the infamous Battle at Rook’s Rest.
Her death was reportedly toned down as compared to what they originally filmed—and what George R.R. Martin described in Fire & Blood. Still, it was an emotional day for the entire cast and crew as they shed tears before officially saying goodbye to actress Eve Best.

The first season of "Game of Thrones" plays it slow and steady with the magic. Yes, the opening scene introduces ice zombies, but the rest of the season is focused on medieval-esque political worldbuilding. It's easy to wonder if those dragons we keep hearing about ever even existed, or if any of those gods the characters worship are even real. But by the end of the first season it's been made clear that this is a true fantasy show: Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) awakens her three dragons, which she'll use to burn down countless enemies throughout the rest of the series.
How does Daenerys pull this off? Well, she walks through fire. She spends the entire night surrounded by flames, and rises from it unscathed. Even her hair remains untouched, which is strange considering her clothes burned so easily. In the books Daenerys' hair did burn, and she spent the next...

A third season of House of the Dragon is on the way, with another spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to debut on HBO this year. There have been a number of Game of Thrones projects that have been scrapped, including a Jon Snow series, which Kit Harington has said is now on the shelf. “Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” Harington said. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.” Although the Jon Snow spinoff is no longer in development, HBO’s Casey Bloys said he would be open to revisiting it down the line.

Turns out House of the Dragon almost started on a very different note — one that might have put Paddy Considine’s Viserys in the background right from the jump. George R.R. Martin revealed that an early version of the show had a scrapped opening scene that was deemed too “challenging,” forcing the writers to take a different route.

While Considine’s portrayal of the doomed Targaryen king became one of the show’s highlights, this alternate introduction could’ve sidelined him entirely. Given how much weight his performance carried in Season 1, it’s hard to imagine Hotd without him front and center.

House of the Dragon star Tom Glynn-Carney, the actor who gives life to Aegon the usurper, aka King Aegon II, has revealed a few details about what fans can expect from his character in Season 3 of the Game of Thrones prequel series. While he remained vague about the finer details of what could happen to Aegon, the actor teased some changes for the character, who didn't actually have a great time during the Dance of Dragons.
Season 2 of House of the Dragon ended a few months ago, and to call its ending a cliffhanger is an understatement. The shift in terms of character is inevitable for Aegon. He's now a victim of his greed and his lack of skills. In Season 2, he had to get some respect. Season 3 will see him trying to simply survive as everyone in the Targaryen clan, the one in King's Landing, sees Aemond as the new leader.

Over the course of eight seasons of Game of Thrones and two seasons of House of the Dragon, we have seen a lot of relationships come and go. While they didn’t all start out great, some turned into ships that we would end up rooting for.
The House of the Dragon ships are still in relatively early days and we haven’t spent a lot of time with some couples. However, there are reasons to root for them, even if they can’t ever be official relationships within the world of Westeros. Since when has that stopped characters from getting together?
Here are my five favorite ships from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon

Quick Links The Sophomore Slump Hurt 'House of the Dragon' Do the Golden Globes Matter for 'House of the Dragon?'
It hasn’t exactly been a good week for fans of Westeros. A few days ago, George R.R. Martin seemingly confirmed a fear fans have had for years now: it’s unlikely that he’ll ever finish the last two books of A Song of Ice and Fire. But an even bigger surprise came during the Golden Globe nominations, which House of the Dragon had handily dominated two years before. Despite mixed reviews for its sophomore season, critical reception has never stopped any Westeros-set series from having guild support. Even the maligned final season of Game of Thrones got (at the time) a record number of Emmy nominations and won Best Drama Series.
Instead, House of the Dragon only earned a single Golden Globes nod for...

Carrying on Game of Thrones’ tragic legacy, House of the Dragon portrayed a gruesome death for one of the most important characters in the series. Fans still vividly remember the treatment Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen got in the story during and after her death.

Pertaining to the same theme, her ancestor Rhaenys Targaryen met a pretty gruesome end in Season 2 of House of the Dragon. Fascinatingly, there are some hard-to-ignore similarities in their tragic demise, although the premises were completely different. And even more shocking was the fact that none of them got a funeral or remembrance scene by their most loved ones.

Rhaenys Targaryen, ‘The Queen Who Never Was’, is a character who has become a polarizing figure in the House of the Dragon fanbase. While some hail her as a feminist trailblazer, others see her as a hypocritical character whose actions are often contradicted by her own lofty ideals.

Hence, there has always been a debate within the fanbase regarding her right to the Iron Throne. Despite George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood providing the context for her sidelining, HBO’s adaptation’s narrative tweaks ultimately reinforce the belief that she was never fit to be the queen.

The second season of House of the Dragon wrapped up earlier this year, and most people who watched it agree that the best episode was the fourth, "The Red Dragon and the Gold," which ended with Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) and her dragon Meleys being knocked out of the sky by Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon Vhagar. After a pitched battle, Rhaenys and Meleys both ended up dead, although we were spared the sight of their burned and blackened bodies on the ground.
But we've known for a while that director Alan Taylor actually did film the dead bodies of Rhaenys and Meleys, but for whatever reason that shot was cut from the final episode. “It’s always like that,” he said in an interview shortly after the episode aired. “I think the impulse behind that choice was to make sure that we stayed focused on the key storylines.

As the fantasy TV show landscape grows larger and more impressive every year, older shows must conclude and make way for new projects entering the sphere. Plenty of long-running shows currently on the air are not only exiting gracefully but are completing their planned arcs. By having a confirmed end date, these shows get to carefully orchestrate a conclusion that will successfully bring the character development and story full circle, which always satisfies fans. As difficult as it is to say goodbye to such high-quality shows, it's good to know they won't suddenly be canceled at their peak.
There's hope that these series will join the ranks of fantasy TV shows with almost perfect endings since having a definitive conclusion is often better than going on for too long. When a fantasy TV show continues for too many seasons, it taints the legacy of the series, making the case that...

Today marks the release of House of the Dragon: Dawn of the Targaryen Civil War, a coffee table book that dives deep on the second season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show. Author Gina McIntyre had access to the set and was able to talk to cast and crew members about their experience. The book also includes tons of photographs straight from the set, concept art, pictures of props, and more.
Let's focus on the images for right now, because a lot of them are making their way around the internet, with an X user named @glindacent being extremely thorough. I won't actually embed the photos here for fear of angering the copyright gods, but will link out to tons of stuff, including:

For 40 years, People magazine has been naming the Sexiest Man Alive, an opinion with the force of tradition and therefore fact. This year, the magazine has named The Office alum John Krasinski, but People doesn't stop there; it actually names 100 sexy men, but doesn't rank them, since that might be a bit gauche. You're all the second sexiest man alive, guys. Don't overthink it.
Anyone, People has designated House of the Dragon star Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) as one of these sexy men, and interviewed him about the show. Overall, the 59-year-old actor seems beyond grateful to be working on the Game of Thrones prequel series. Ewan Mitchell has broken out in the past few years thanks to role in movies like Saltburn and shows like House of the Dragon, where he plays the one-eyed dragon-riding revenge machine Aemond Targaryen. “He almost floats into scenes," Mitchell told GQ about the character. "He’s almost an idea rather than a person,” says Mitchell. “The way he looks, he screams ‘villain.’”
That he does. Mitchell went even further, comparing Aemond to famous movie monster Michael Myers, who's been hacking and slashing his way across the big screen since the 1970s. “No matter how much Jamie Lee Curtis’ [character] tries to wind through the trees to escape Michael Myers, [he always] catches up with her. The idea that this guy is your maker, and you will meet him eventually.”
And yet, it's possible to see where Aemond is coming from, at least some of the time. In the first season, we saw...

With the help of its stars, the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon became an instant success. Emily Carey's Alicent and Milly Alcock's Rhaenyra propelled the show into the public consciousness by introducing a touching dynamic with painful and tragic overtones. Their close connection was shattered quickly, and Rhaenyra's pain was set to resound through Alcock's performance for the rest of the show.
Yet, by House of the Dragon Season 1, Episode 6, "The Princess and the Queen", the two characters were recast. Olivia Cooke replaced Emily Carey and Emma DArcy took Milly Alcock's place in the show. Alicent and Rhaenyra's dynamic remained unchanged, but Alcock and Carey did not return to the show in a full-time capacity. Recasting both characters is understandable, given the 10-year time jump, but the decision is still baffling. After all, few other characters were recast.

George R.R Martin's complaints about the television adaptation of House of the Dragon caught the attention of HBO execs. While his grievances have not been addressed directly, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, recently touched on the topic.
Martin's comments came up when Deadline asked Bloys to share his thoughts about House of the Dragon's Emmy Award chances since Season 2 divided some fans. "Well, I'm not sure that the fans were divided over Season 2," the HBO exec said before the publication mentioned the acclaimed author by name. "Yes, maybe one fan was. But no, the show did really, really well. I expect that will be in competition," he added.

Spoiler Alert: Possible spoilers follow for future seasons of House of the DragonSomething is rotten in the state of Westeros. After promising last week to talk about his dissatisfaction with parts of House of the Dragons second season, franchise maestro George R.R. Martin made good on that promise on Wednesday in a now-deleted blog post. Specifically, he detailed the changes to the season premieres Blood and Cheese plotline, which controversially removed Queen Helaenas youngest son, Prince Maelor. Since Helaena no longer had to willingly sacrifice Maelor (only for Blood and Cheese to kill Jaehaerys instead), fans felt this lessened the emotional impact of the scene. While Martin praised the season as its own entity, he clearly sides with the fans.
As he explained, his bigger concern is the repercussions that Maelors exclusion from the show would have going forward (Spoiler Warning Ahead). In the book Fire and Blood, Maelor is...

Last week, George R.R. Martin took to his “Not a Blog” to hint at some significant grievances with the recent sophomore season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, promising to go into more detail soon.
The writer has now done just that, with a lengthy post outlining why he felt one particular character omission in the season premiere could have a "butterfly effect" on later seasons of the show.
He also spoils a significant season 3 death - at least for those who haven't read the book.
In the show, King Aegon and Queen Helaena have two children (Jaehaerys and Jaehaera), but in Martin's Fire and Blood, the twins have a younger brother, 2-year-old Maelor. The infamous “Blood and Cheese” sequence in the series shows the hired thugs kill Jaehaerys in front of his mother, but the events of the book are quite different - and a lot more disturbing.

'I Hated to Lose That': George R.R. Martin Criticizes House of the Dragon's Blood and Cheese Changes
George R.R Marin has been pretty vocal about what he loved about House of the Dragon. However, the acclaimed author recently took issue with how the series portrayed Blood and Cheese and the death of Prince Jaehaerys.
"I still believe the scene in the book is stronger," Martin wrote in a Sept. 4 post on his Not a Blog website. "The readers have the right of that. The two killers are crueler in the book. I thought the actors who played the killers on the show were excellent. But the characters are crueler, harder, and more frightening in Fire & Blood. In the show, Blood is a gold cloak. Season 2 of House of the Dragon brought in many new characters and plenty of new dragons as the "Dance of Dragons" got officially underway. Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) saw this firsthand at the battle of Rook's Rest.
With the death of Rhaenys (Eve Best) and Meleys, and the damage done to Sunfyre, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) realizes that her dragons alone will not be able to stop Vhagar if she and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) decide to attack. So begins the Sowing, a series of violent introductions...

It sounds like George R.R. Martin may have some issues with the second season of House of the Dragon.
The Game of Thrones author, who is also listed as co-creator and executive producer on House of the Dragon, took to his “Not a Blog” over the weekend to hint at some significant grievances with the recent sophomore season of HBO's Got prequel series.
Martin began by admitting that he’s had “a pretty wretched year,” before revealing that he is planning to list off his problems with the show in an upcoming blog post.
"I need to talk about some of that, and I will, I will… I was away from my computer traveling from July 15 to August 15, so a lot of things that needed saying did not get said. I am glad I took that trip, though. My stress levels beforehand were off the charts, so much so that...

Warning: Spoilers for character deaths through Season 2 of House of the Dragon.
With two seasons under its belt, House of the Dragons Targaryen Civil War between the Blacks and the Greens is in full swing. The first season consisted of five key players, but as the story expanded, the series drastically widened the scope of the Targaryen family tree. While the Targaryen line was around before the characters in the spinoff came to be, its these characters that sparked the infamously bloody Dance of Dragons within the family and nearly annihilated the dragon-wielding house.
In order to fully grasp the Targaryen story, viewers need to understand the foundation that laid the groundwork for the familys civil war. King Jaehaerys I (Michael Carter) had multiple children, but Aemon and Baelon played the largest role because they died while Jaehaerys was alive, before a definitive line of succession was established. As a result,...

Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is indicating some trouble behind the scenes of the prequel/spin-off series House of the Dragon. Based on parts of Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the infamous "Dance with Dragons," a war of succession with House Targaryen. The series debuted on HBO on August 21, 2022, and was a huge hit with critics and most audiences, showing that Game of Thrones still had a large fanbase despite a controversial finale. Season 2, though, received a worse audience reaction.
In his blog, George R.R. Martin, a man who is never shy about sharing his opinions, recently wrote that he is not looking forward to the day when he must write about what went wrong with the Game of Thrones spin-off series. While he did not get into specifics about the series,...

Weeks after the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale aired, the Games of Thrones spinoff series continues to divide opinion. Acclaimed author George R.R. Martin is among the many critics with strong feelings about the show's direction, ready to unload on "everything that's gone wrong" with it.
In a blog post on his website, Martin teased his thoughts on House of the Dragon, based on his fantasy novel, Fire & Blood. While celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Burning of Zozobra, Martin claimed he's not looking forward to the day he outlines his issues with the prequel show. "I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything thats gone wrong with House Of The DRAGONbut I need to do that too, and I will," he said.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones may not have invented the shocking character death, but it seemingly perfected it. From Sean Bean's Ned Stark meeting his untimely demise in the first season to the Red Wedding in the third season, the show turned killing off characters into an art form, and moments that defined the series. Producers of the show also started a tradition that continues now with the prequel series House of the Dragon: the Call of Death. According to actors from both series, when their time on the show is up, and they are being killed off, they get a call from producers with the bad news. And no one wants to get that call.
In an interview with Variety, actor Harry Collett, who plays Jace, the eldest son of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), discussed the "Call of Death,...
