The weekslong Swiss music celebration, Montreux Jazz Festival, revealed a typically diverse lineup of artists on Thursday for its 59th annual gathering, which will take place from July 4 – 19 in the titular city. Roy Ayers, the pioneering jazz-funk musician best known for his song “Everybody Loves the Sunshine,” has died at the age of 84.

“It is with great sadness that the family of legendary vibraphonist, composer and producer Roy Ayers announce his passing which occurred on March 4th, 2025 in New York City after a long illness,” read a post on the musician’s Facebook. “He lived a beautiful 84 years and will be sorely missed. His family ask that you respect their privacy at this time, a celebration of Roy’s life will be forthcoming.”

In 2022, Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli resurrected their duo, Black Star, for their first album in 24 years, No Fear of Time. Now, the duo has announced the album is being released for the first time on vinyl and CD starting November 22nd via Rhymesayers.

Released in May 2022 exclusively on the podcast platform Luminary (and later made available via Bandcamp), No Fear of Time is a nine-song album featuring production from Madlib and guest appearances by Black Thought and Yummy Bingham. It was made “guerrilla-style,” recorded in secret over a four-year period with hotels and dressing rooms at Dave Chappelle shows serving as the studio space.

SXSW 2024 kicked off its first full day of music on March 12 with a smattering of must-see shows around town, plus some tension in the air thanks to the festival’s relationship with the U.S. Army. (When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott chimed in on social media, it was the kind of noise that no one needs.) While a number of acts cancelled their official showcases, many of them continued to play unofficial shows for the audiences that SXSW brought to town, and several spoke out in support of the Palestinian people and against war.

Slasher films are known for their one-liners, both the badass and the embarrassing. More than one year after its release, Black Star have made their long-awaited comeback album, No Fear of Time, available outside of the Luminary podcast network.

Originally released in May 2022 as a Luminary exclusive, No Fear of Time marked the first proper full-length from the duo of Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (f.k.a. Mos Def) in 24 years. It was produced entirely by their frequent collaborator Madlib.

“We are gutted not to be able to perform for you this year,” the group said in a statement. “We were really looking forward to it and we hope to get back to you again as soon as we can. We love our Gorillaz family and we can’t wait to see you again.”

In the anime medium, personifications of death are usually unconventional, and even when they fit some aspects of the Grim Reaper (or Shinigami), there still tend to be notable differences between their presentation and that of the deathly figure.

Some are experienced combatants and others are deific figures, but all of these individuals share one trait in common: they sow death and/or harvest souls on a regular basis.

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival is back. For the first time since 2019, the music event will return with a new lineup of performers — but it’s keeping its location at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. Camp Flog Gnaw has always taken place far outside of the normal date range of music’s summer festival season. For 2023, the carnival is scheduled for Nov. 11 and 12.
