In a land suffocating under fear and corruption, Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh arrives as a nameless wanderer—his past buried, his purpose uncertain. Cloaked in silence and anonymity, he steps into a village gripped by terror, ruled by the iron fist of Ranatunga, a ruthless warlord with a bloodstained legacy as a former international terrorist.
What begins as a seemingly minor confrontation soon ignites a firestorm of resistance. As hidden truths surface and the line between justice and vengeance blurs, Baldev must confront not only the enemy before him but the ghosts within. Bound by honor, shaped by duty, and driven by a promise he cannot break, Baldev becomes the reluctant spark in a people’s war for freedom. In a world where silence is survival and violence speaks the loudest, who triumphs: the disciplined soldier or the brutal despot?

In the hit Amazon series Reacher, Alan Ritchson a retired military officer cleans out a small dusty town of all its surplus filth. In Jaat, Sunny Deol does the same.
So much for originality.
Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the breakneck brutality of this juggernaut of a film, to a point. A lot of the choreographed mayhem hits home largely for Mr Deol, who is to cinematic empowerment and what China is to global politics.
Not only does he make a credible one-man army in Jaat, but he is also very funny when he is allowed to be. Like for instance, his entire war against the evil forces hinges on one man not saying sorry for messing up his meal.
That spilt sambar at the roadside dhaba eventuates in gallons of spilt blood.
Shove means never having to say you are sorry. At least not if you want...

Kadalkkaattu, the seventh short film in Mt Vasudevan’s Manorathangal, is a story of infidelity and the kind of maturity shown by a woman stuck in a toxic relationship. Now, unlike Sudha in Kazhcha (the 3rd short film of the anthology series), in this story, the female protagonist, named Bharathi, overlooks the mistakes made by her husband, and patiently waits for him to realize that what he was doing was not right, and in the end decides to be with him. I agree that everybody has their own set of ideologies and principles, and they have every right to stick to their opinions. This time around, I did not concur with the actions of the character, and I felt like Mt Vasudevan was trying to glorify something that should have been vehemently condemned. That protagonist didn’t have the right to walk in as and when he pleased, treat his...

The Malayalam film industry has been having a splendid 2024 on the big screen so far. They started things off with Aattam, which showed that 12 Angry Men can be remade in the 21st century, and it’ll still be relevant. Abraham Ozler wasn’t a critical success, but it did quite well at the box office. Meanwhile, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban didn’t make a dent at the box office, but personally speaking, it was nothing short of a visual masterpiece. Anweshippin Kandethum, featuring Tovino Thomas, was a massive success, given its budget. Then there was the Barbenheimer of the Year, Premalu and Bramayugam, which impressed critics and brought in the big bucks. Manjummel Boys knocked it out of the park by bringing forth an unbelievable story. The same can be said about Aadujeevitham. Aavesham is currently the frontrunner for the “Movie of the Year” title. Ullozhukku and Paradise were well-received,...

KollywoodVeteran actor Radikaa, who celebrates her birthday this month, made her debut with this 1978 Bharathiraja film.Anjana ShekarYouTube Screengrab/ Saregama TamilA train meanders through a beautiful landscape, cutting across rivers, veering around mountains, and chugs along from one station to another, as trees and name boards of obscure villages and towns blend into a streak of green and yellow. The train is a metaphor for movement, often quoted to describe life’s journey. But the train is also very real! It runs from one town to another carrying thousands with their dreams and hopes. In one such train, the eastward bound train to be precise, alights a young woman and there begins our story. Kizhakke Pogum Rail, director Bharathiraja’s second feature, released in August 1978. A buoyant looking Radikaa (what a film to debut in!) steps down from the train with a small sack of clothes and a parrot in a cage.
