Bradley Cooper’s Big 2014 Scene Might’ve Shamelessly Stolen From Al Pacino’s Film Hiding on Netflix
Image
A romantic scene from Bradley Cooper‘s 2014 period drama Serena has a striking resemblance to a nearly identical moment in Al Pacino’s underrated movie Frankie and Johnny (1991). Directed by Garry Marshall, the movie stars Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer in their titular roles. In both movies, the male lead suddenly declares his love and proposes marriage, using near-identical lines: “I think we should get married.”

In Frankie and Johnny, Al Pacino‘s character, Johnny, comes across from Pfeiffer’s Frankie and earnestly proposes a nearly identical line.

I’m in love with you. I love you. I’m totally and completely mad for you… I think we should get married. I definitely want to have kids. Four or five if possible?

The moment may seem awkward, but it carries significant emotional weight within the context of the movie. Similar to a scene in Serena, the declaration feels abrupt. Especially...

’Practical Magic’s Evan Rachel Wood Reveals Why She Won’t Be Returning for the Sequel
Image
Not everyone may be obsessed with the era of sequels and reboots, but at least fans get to see their favorite classics return in an all-new form, usually with the original stars, on either small or large screens, or even both. One such classic is the bewitching 1998 pic Practical Magic, which is getting the sequel treatment but won’t be released till the fall of 2026. While fans eagerly anticipate, we have a major casting update, which comes not long after two major returnees joined the enchanting sequel.

So far, a few original stars have already been confirmed to reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2, including the leading duo, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who portray sisters Sally and Gilly Owens. And just last weekend, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing were announced as returnees too, playing the Owens aunts, Jet and Franny. With the latest addition, many wondered if Evan Rachel Wood...

Here's why Evan Rachel Wood won't be returning for the Practical Magic sequel
Image
While it was recently reported that Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest would be returning as the eccentric Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet in the upcoming Practical Magic sequel, one star will not be reprising her role from the 1998 movie. Evan Rachel Wood took to social media over the weekend to confirm that she would not be back as Sandra Bullock's onscreen daughter Kylie.

Per Deadline, Wood posted on her Instagram stories over the weekend that she hadn't been asked back for the sequel, revealing that she'd even suggested only appearing in one scene. “I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”

The Practical Magic sequel was first announced last fall. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock both agreed to return and reprise their roles as Gillian and Sally Owens,...

Evan Rachel Wood was not asked back for Practical Magic 2
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic (1998)
Last year, it was officially announced that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the roles of sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the sequel, which is aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release, will honor the original and not attempt to reinvent the wheel – but that doesn’t mean they’re bringing all of the original cast members back. Evan Rachel Wood, who played Sally’s daughter Kylie in the original film, has confirmed that she will not be back for the sequel. But her absence from the film was not her choice.

The Hollywood Reporter caught Wood’s confirmation on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and...

Evan Rachel Wood Will Not Return for ‘Practical Magic’ Sequel: “It Was Not in My Control or My Choice”

Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing are set to reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2, but there’s one witch who won’t be joining the family reunion.

Evan Rachel Wood, who played the eldest daughter of Bullocks’ character in the 1998 supernatural romantic comedy, has taken to social media to confirm she will not appear in the sequel.

“I am getting asked about this a lot, so I’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the Practical Magic sequel. I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,” she shared in an Instagram story over the weekend.

Evan Rachel Wood Says Practical Magic 2 Will Recast Her Role
Evan Rachel Wood at an event for The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards (2012)
Evan Rachel Wood told fans she will not reprise Kylie Owens in Practical Magic 2, writing on Instagram that producers “are recasting” and that the decision was made without her input. “I would have happily rejoined my sisters,” she added, responding to speculation that circulated after the sequel’s green-light earlier this month.

Warner Bros. confirmed on 8 July that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will return as the Owens sisters, with Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing back as the eccentric aunts. New cast members include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod, signaling a generational shift in the family saga first adapted from Alice Hoffman’s novels in 1998.

People close to the project say director Susanne Bier and writer Akiva Goldsman sought actors closer in age to the characters as written in Hoffman’s Rules of Magic prequel, a choice that effectively ruled out Wood, now...

'Practical Magic' Star Evan Rachel Wood Won't Repise Her Role in Sequel
Image
Sally Owens’ (Sandra Bullock) spell-casting eldest daugther, Kylie Owens, will be a no-show in the upcoming Practical Magic 2, or, at least, the role won’t be played by Evan Rachel Wood this time around. Wood, along with Alexandra Artrip’s portrayal of Antonia, played the two children of Sally and the nieces of their spellbinding Aunt Gillian (Nicole Kidman). Sadly, though, Wood confirmed in a story posted to her Instagram account that she would not be returning for the sequel, and it seems she did want to be a part of the magical sequel. Wood wrote on social media:

"I am getting asked about this a lot, so l'll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans.

‘Practical Magic 2’ — Everything We Know So Far
Image
Something magical is brewing over at Warner Bros. Last year, it was first announced that Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock were nearing a deal with the studio to make a long-awaited follow-up to their witchy 1996 romantic fantasy “Practical Magic.” Then, teases trickled out for a few months before, and unexpectedly, WB dropped a teaser on social media in May, sending fans into a whirlwind.

The original film, which did not make a profit in its initial theatrical run, went on to become a staple of aughts cable television, brewing up generations of fans and becoming a cult favorite.

The logical next question, then, was who — besides the now-Oscar-winning Kidman and Bullock — would be returning to the quaint Owens sisters’ Massachusetts home for the next adventure. In 1998, the cast included Goran Visnjic, Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, Aidan Quinn, Evan Rachel Wood, and Margo Martindale. Visnjic’s character, Jimmy, would seem unlikely...

'I Was Told They Are Recasting': Practical Magic Star Wasn't Invited to Return for Part 2
Image
Practical Magic is getting a sequel, and several stars from the original film are already confirmed to return. Despite the best efforts of Evan Rachel Wood, however, she will not be among the group of returning stars.

On her Instagram Stories, Wood shared a post clearing the air about her status with Practical Magic 2. She said she tried to get involved, claiming she was willing to show up for a single line of dialogue if nothing else. In any case, this did not result in an offer for Wood to return for Practical Magic 2, as she added that she'd heard that her role was even being recast.

“I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the Practical Magic sequel,” Wood said in the post. “l offered my services, even if...

Evan Rachel Wood Says She Isn’t Returning for ‘Practical Magic 2’: “I Was Told They Are Recasting”

While several of the castmembers in the original Practical Magic are returning for the film’s sequel, Evan Rachel Wood has made it known she’s not.

Dakota Fanning said ‘yes’ to ‘The Perfect Couple’ the moment she heard Nicole Kidman was involved, without knowing anything else about the show
Image
Dakota Fanning laughs while recalling her spontaneous decision to join Netflix's suspense drama The Perfect Couple. "The first thing they said was, 'You're Nicole [Kidman]'s daughter-in-law, you're pregnant, and you're the murderer,' and I was like, 'Yes!'"

The Emmy-nominated actor tells Gold Derby, "I was introduced to the project through Susanne Bier, who I had worked with before and became very close to. She called me, and told me a bit about the character. I don't even think she told me the title of the show or the book that it was based on. She said Nicole Kidman was involved, and I said yes. That was my introduction to it, and then, of course, I read the scripts and found out who was playing all the other parts, and as the cast was coming together I got more and more excited, but Susanne and Nicole were the two biggest draws for me.

It’s a cliché but it’s a cliché for a reason: Netflix puts out so many movies that most people never even hear about them. How Old Was Sandra Bullock in ‘Practical Magic’? Nicole Kidman Claims Sequel Was Planned Way Before You Thought
Image
Almost three decades ago, Practical Magic hit the screens to show two of the most famous actresses of their time, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, joining hands for the fantasy-comedy romantic book-based film. At the time, the critical reviews it garnered weren’t all that favorable, although the general audience didn’t seem to dislike it so much.

Now, almost 27 years after the release of the original, Kidman has come forward to reveal that the movie, which has since gained a cult following for its cast, soundtrack, and feminist themes, is about to get a sequel. Surprisingly enough, though, although it took so long to be made, this upcoming follow-up movie was actually planned way before!

‘Practical Magic 2’: Joey King’s 88% Rated Show Redeems ‘Kissing Booth’ And Explains Why Sandra Bullock Wants Her in Sequel
Image
Joey King’s been quietly rewriting her story since The Kissing Booth happened in 2018, and now, it’s paying off. While the 2019 drama The Act earned her critical respect with an 88% rating, it’s that very performance that’s catching fresh attention in 2025. Word is, Sandra Bullock sees that Emmy-nominated turn as reason enough to bring King into Practical Magic 2.

This feels like a full-circle moment — King moving from guilty-pleasure rom-coms to dark, mystical, witchy territory. And with Bullock reportedly championing her casting, one can say that The Act kind of absolved her past, providing a boost to her career.

Last year, it was officially announced that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the roles of sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens. Joey King (The Kissing Booth) has been cast in Practical Magic 2 as the daughter of Bullock’s character.

King and Bullock were both in the cast of the 2022 action film Bullet Train, and King played Kidman’s daughter in the Netflix rom-com A Family Affair just last year.

She'll threaten to "plunge the family into a crisis" in late summer, when filming gets underway in London.
