Natalie Dormer says feminism is misconstrued: "It's not about girl power"
Natalie Dormer plays a feminist icon in BBC Two's new drama The Scandalous Lady W - but she thinks the point of feminism is "misconstrued by so many people".

The Scandalous Lady W casts the Game of Thrones actress as Seymour, Lady Worsley - a noblewoman who became notorious following her 'scandalous' separation from husband Sir Richard Worsley (Shaun Evans).

"It was a scandal, and she was considered scandalous - because, as is the nature of history at that time, the woman gets blamed," Dormer told Digital Spy. "For centuries, the woman got blamed, or was vilified, as opposed to the man."

But Dormer said she feels for men "in modern society" - and that it "upsets" and "disturbs" her when others - especially young people - adopt an 'us vs them' mentality.

Natalie Dormer to star in BBC Two's The Woman in Red
Natalie Dormer has been announced to star in BBC Two's The Woman in Red.

The Game of Thrones actress will play Lady Seymour Worsley in the one-off 18th century factual drama.

The Woman in Red follows Seymour Worsley on trial, after she tries to leave her husband Sir Richard Worsley (Shaun Evans) and elope with his best friend Captain George Bisset (Aneurin Barnard).

In court, a woman's worth and material value as one of her husband's possessions are heavily debated.

Dormer said: "I am thrilled to be playing a woman who was so ahead of her time. Though our story is set in the 18th century, it challenges and explores the issues still fully relevant today of freedom and equality.

"To be home in London shooting with such a talented ensemble in front of and behind the camera is a real treat."
