Star Wars franchise star Maria De Aragon has passed away. The actress was best known for playing Greedo in the original Star Wars movie released by director George Lucas in 1977.

The announcement of De Aragon's death comes from her management company, Coolwaters Productions, with a post shared on Instagram. It's revealed in the post that De Aragon died of natural causes in late April. She was 81 years old.

"Coolwaters Productions LLC is sad to report that our client Ms. Maria De Aragon, the actress who helped bring the character of 'Greedo' to life in Star Wars: A New Hope has passed away," the announcement post reads in part. The Greedo scene from George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars" remains steeped in controversy. /Film has written before about the many, many cuts of the Greedo scene throughout "Star Wars" history, and how baffling each subsequent change has been. In the original 1977 cut of "Star Wars," the affable Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is approached by a mugwump-like alien named Greedo (Paul Blake) in a seedy bar. Greedo is there to collect on a debt, holds a weapon on Han, and will likely kill him right at the table where he is sitting. Han, seeing the danger, plays it cool. He reaches under the table, surreptitiously unholsters his blaster, and kills the unsuspecting Greedo before the alien can get a shot off. The bar is so sleazy, no one seems to really care about the murder. 

In 1997, Lucas released a polished re-edit of "Star Wars" touted as the "Special Edition." The 1997 cut added a new wrinkle.

In the immortal words of Greedo: "Maclunkey!" "Star Wars" has given rise to plenty of one-liners and other memorable movie and TV quotes, from classic mantras like "May the Force be with you" and "I've got a bad feeling about this," to more recent expressions like "This is the Way" and "I have spoken" from "The Mandalorian." In the annals of franchise history, though, perhaps no "Star Wars" quote is more controversial than "Maclunkey!" As of 2019, it's the last thing Greedo says before Han Solo shoots him dead in the Disney+ edit of "Star Wars: A New Hope."

If series creator Jon Favreau had his way, Pedro Pascal's protagonist would have also said "Maclunkey!" in "The Mandalorian." Favreau can be heard floating the idea to co-executive producer Dave Filoni in the "Making of Season 2" episode of the docuseries "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian," streaming on Disney+.

Edgar-Jones will play the role of American singer-songwriter Carole King, on which the broadway musical is based.

The Han/Greedo confrontation in Star Wars: A New Hope is infamous as it’s gone through many iterations over the years, with George Lucas continually tinkering with the method of the Rodian bounty hunter’s death in the Mos Eisley cantina. The latest twist on the scene comes from the Disney Plus version of the franchise’s original movie and this time, it features a very mystifying addition.

In this version, Han and Greedo shoot each other at practically the same time, with the latter missing, which somewhat fixes the previous changes but doesn’t revert back to Han completely beating Greed to the trigger. While he didn't provide the character's voiceover, that was done by Larry Ward, Blake is as much of an authority on the bounty hunter as there can be. After the Maclunkey bit made the rounds, Blake was interviewed about it. For starters, Blake confirmed he had seen the new version of the scene.

“The shutdown has affected so many government employees in a really negative way,” said producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner. “If we can offer those affected by this shutdown a moment of escape and joy, then we feel it is important to do so and is truly the least we can do.”

Eligible federal employees can claim tickets for select performances by presenting valid government identification (in-person only) at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre’s box office on the day of the desired performance.

Still, even as you approach them face-to-face some of these people still don’t ring a bell. Maybe it’s because their scenes were deleted or they were an extra amongst many. Others, you discover are a familiar masked character and you are happy to chat for a few moments with them, as that movie, and its two sequels (I am only referring to the original trilogy starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher), had such a lasting impact on your childhood.

Fans of Star Wars might be disappointed by this decision, but the result is a film that is more thoughtful than just another look at the legacy of the iconic series.

Minor characters and some that really aren’t even considered characters (sorry, stormtrooper who knocked his noggin against a blast door) step into the spotlight in Elstree 1976. As if anyone needed further convincing that Han Solo shot first in the theatrical cut of 1977's Star Wars, the man who played Greedo has come forward to say that's exactly how it went down on both the set of the film and in the original script. Actor Paul Blake told the New York Daily News (via Uproxx):

"...it said it all in the original script, we played in the scene in English and at the end of the scene, it reads, 'Han shoots the alien.' It's all it says and that's what happened. It was very painful."

Like the rest of fandom, Blake wants to see the original version reinstated to the movie, but he has slightly more selfish reasoning: the altered version makes Greedo look like an embarrassingly terrible bounty hunter:

For all the talk of the billions of dollars "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will rake in, the plans of the sequels and spinoffs and more, it can be easy to forget that the franchise has very humble beginnings. In fact, 20th Century Fox had so little faith in the original "Star Wars," they gave George Lucas the merchandising rights (easily one of the worst cinematic business decisions in history). However, Jon Spira’s new documentary “Elstree 1976” takes audiences on a thirty-nine year trip to tell the story of how Lucas started an empire, by hearing it from some of the smaller players who made it happen. After bowing at the BFI London Film Festival and Sitges, Jon Spira's Star Wars documentary is now readying for a theatrical release in the UK courtesy of The Works. Elstree 1976 talks to ten of the minor players involved in George Lucas' science fiction classics, from Paul Blake, who played Greedo, to Boba Fett himself Jeremy Bulloch. While the world has been forever changed by Star Wars, back when it was shooting in a sweltering UK summer 39 years ago, few of those involved had any idea what they were a part of, let alone that it - and ultimately they - would become such icons of cinema.Check out the trailer below....

The BFI's Days of Fear and Wonder programme celebrated Star Wars Day this weekend (Saturday, December 12) to screen George Lucas's original trilogy back-to-back.

The Southbank venue played host to showings of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with special guests Paul Blake (Greedo), Garrick Hagon (Rebel pilot Biggs Darklighter), Anthony Forrest (Mos Eisley roadblock stormtrooper), Anne Skinner (script supervisor) and Harley Cokeliss (2nd Unit Director) on hand to discuss the sci-fi movies.

Lando Calrissian star Billy Dee Williams also took part in an exclusive filmed interview before Empire Strikes Back and Jabba the Hutt puppeteer Toby Philpott joined in for a post-Return of the Jedi Q&A.

The BFI's Benugo bar offered fans Mos Eisley Cantina-themed drinks, while Lego tables decked out the foyer for those wanting to build Star Wars models.

As part of BFI's sci-fi festival "Days of Fear and Wonder", this exhibition of rare behind-the-scenes snaps from Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope are on display at the Atrium of the British Film Institute's Southbank location, and will be running through Jan. 4. The photos are from the personal collection of the continuity supervisor on the film, Ann Skinner. As you can see theer are some very nice shots, including actors David Prowse and Paul Blake (as Darth Vader and Greedo repetitively) without their masks. There's also pics of Anthony Forrest as Laze Loneozner, Koo Stark as Camie, and Garrick Hagon as Biggs Darklighter from the deleted Toshe Station scene.

Today saw the return of the Star Wars Fan Fun Day to Burnley, Lancashire. The annual event takes place each year at Turf Moor, home to Burnley F.C., and this years event appeared to be the largest yet! Guests included such Star Wars luminaries such as Dave Prowse (Darth Vader), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), and Paul Blake (Greedo); along with the charity costume organisations Rebel Legion and the 99th Imperial UK Garrison who turned out again in force for photo opportunites and fan interaction.

Organisers have announced the return of the Star Wars Fan Fun Day, a one day convention that takes place in the heart of the North West. And this year looks set to be bigger than the last, with David Prowse, aka Darth Vader himself, in attendance! Along with Vader, the convention promises the largest gatherin of Star Wars cast members ever inthe North West. The event is a not for profit Star Wars fan event that attracts both fans and families, with last years event hosting over 1100 attendees. Guests at this years event include:
