3 Forgettable Star Wars Characters
Image
With George Lucas creating Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope back in 1977 (with help from Steven Spielberg and Brian De Palma), the film quickly turned into a franchise, which turned into a global pop culture phenomenon.

From Mace Windu to Darth Vader, from Luke Skywalker to Han Solo, there were a ton of characters and villains, and heroes introduced in an uncountable number of sequels, prequels, TV shows, and video games. Naturally, there were several characters in the Star Wars franchise that were completely forgettable. Here are 3 characters from the Star Wars franchise that you may have completely forgotten.

‘Andor’ star Genevieve O’Reilly on her unlikely two-decade Mon Mothma journey: ‘I’ve closed the circle on her’
Image
Andor actress Genevieve O’Reilly’s Star Wars journey has been longer and more circuitous than most actors in the franchise, but what a payoff she received.

The ethereal Rebel leader Mon Mothma was originally portrayed by actress Caroline Blakiston in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Though her appearance lasted less than 30 seconds, the character quickly became an iconic part of Star Wars lore. O’Reilly later stepped into the role in her 20s for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith — a brief appearance as well, but one that laid the groundwork for her deeper involvement in the franchise later on.

Much to her surprise, O’Reilly returned to the franchise as Mon Mothma just over a decade later in a slightly more fleshed-out role for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, accompanied by turns voicing the character for the animated series Star Wars Rebels. But those brief stints were just...

Tony Gilroy Changing ‘Andor’ Season 2 Release Format Ruined Mon Mothma’s Story in Deleted Scene
Image
Tony Gilroy had a different plan for how Mon Mothma’s story turned out in Andor Season 2. There was a deleted scene in the series that added another layer to the character. However, the three-episode weekly release pattern meant that all these stories couldn’t be included in Gilroy’s series.

Caroline Blakiston played Mon Mothma in the original Star Wars films. Genevieve Reilly took over the role in Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One before she appeared in Andor. In Gilroy’s series, Reilly had a leading role, and it was unlike any version of Mon Mothma that we saw earlier.

Tony Gilroy’s release schedule for Andor Season 2 ruined Mon Mothma’s story Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma in Andor | Credits: Disney+/Lucasfilm

The first season of Andor followed a weekly release pattern after dropping its first three episodes together. Season 2 followed a different release schedule for its twelve episodes.

As ‘Andor’ ends, Genevieve O’Reilly looks back on 20 years of playing Mon Mothma, from ‘Revenge of the Sith’ to now
Image
It wasn’t planned this way, but Andor Season 2 arrived on Disney+ when Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith celebrated its 20th anniversary with a theatrical rerelease. This coincidence gives even greater resonance to Genevieve O’Reilly’s performance in the final season of Andor, because it’s a reminder that the actress has now been playing Mon Mothma, a senator who watches her Republic devolve into an Empire and then becomes a leader of the Rebel Alliance, for two decades.

“It's really lovely because I hadn't realized that connection until recently, but it’s a reminder of the longevity of our storytelling and how Star Wars does seem timeless and universal,” O’Reilly This 20th anniversary has collided with Andor Season 2 coming out beautifully. It’s just a reminder that I have had the good fortune of playing with this woman at different times over 20 years. It's not something I ever expected,...

TV’s Best Character Is … Mon Mothma? ‘Andor’ Star Genevieve O’Reilly Talks Season 2
Image
For Star Wars fans, Mon Mothma was always an interesting character — a grave, regal woman who suddenly pops up in 1983’s Return of the Jedi as the leader of the Rebellion, mourning the death of “many Bothans.” Still, she had one scene, total (as played, at that point, by veteran British actress Caroline Blakiston). So the idea that we would someday be deeply conversant with Mon Mothma’s inner life seemed about as likely as a Pinteresque drama starring the Cantina bar’s Hammerhead and Walrusman.

In 2004, the young Irish-Australian...

The Star Wars Rebels Episode You Need To Watch After Andor Episode 9
Image
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Andor Season 2, Episode 9

You knew Andor Season 2 was going to be incredible, largely because of how good Season 1 turned out to be. But chances are, you’re still blown away by the third arc of the second run, delivering the most explosive drama of the Star Wars series’ run — not just colliding several of its characters in the chaos of the Ghorman massacre, but also propelling Mon Mothma to her own destiny as a result.

It was always going this way. The Ghorman massacre has long been a footnote in Imperial history, with roots stretching all the way back to West End Games' 1990 RPG Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, and deep-cut fans knew it would be the catalyst for Mon Mothma to denounce Emperor Palpatine in the Senate before making a desperate escape from Coruscant. But if you just watched that Andor episode, 'Welcome To The Rebellion',...

Does Disney really need this Star Wars Meet and Greet?
Image
Andor is one of the best Star Wars shows ever, and it showcases how one big character is being wasted at Disney parks!

Star Wars fans are, to put it lightly, a divisive lot who can often be quite judgemental of the franchise. That’s only increased since Disney purchased it, with new fans coming on board, but as many older fans decry the state of the later movies and TV shows. That’s not counting the slams on Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership.

So it says a lot that almost all fans can agree Andor is the best thing Disney has done with Star Wars. The series begins five years before the events of Rogue One and focuses on how Andor (Diego Luna) rises up from outcast to Rebel spy.

The show is stunning in showcasing the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance which is an “alliance” in name only with scores of agendas abounding.

Andor Star Shares the Story Behind That 'Pretty Special Surprise' for Mon Mothma
Image
Andor Season 2’s premiere was an action-packed return to form for the gritty Rogue One prequel. It was a triple episode release filled with explosions, tension, threat, and Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma barely holding it together at her daughter's wedding.

Whilst other characters in the rebellion certainly had a tougher time of it this week, Mothma’s delicate position within Imperial high society led her to have a near breakdown on the dance floor. Speaking on the scene, O’Reilly noted that Mon Mothma has to “hold a lot within quite a delicate facade of diplomacy” and that the future leader of The Rebel Alliance gets a full exploration of her character this season, per THR.

Mon Mothma first appeared in 1983’s Star Wars: Episode 6—Return of the Jedi. She was then played by Caroline Blakiston and later recast as O’Reilly in Episode 3—Revenge of the Sith. Though ultimately...

‘Andor’ Star Genevieve O’Reilly Talks Mon Mothma’s Boozy Jig and the Chaos Inside Her Head
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Andor season two’s three-episode premiere.]

Andor star Genevieve O’Reilly finally has the answer to a question she’s been asking herself since she started playing Mon Mothma as of 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

When O’Reilly first revisited Caroline Blakiston’s debut as the former Chandrilan Senator turned Rebel Alliance leader in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), she sensed a particular anguish in Blakiston’s Mon Mothma that she’s been trying to get to the bottom of across her various other galactic appearances in The Clone Wars, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and now, Andor. In the latter case, creator Tony Gilroy took the canonical destinations she already had in mind and muddied Andor‘s two-season journey along the way, resulting in the clarity she’s long been pursuing.

“It has been at the heart of my curiosity all the way through [Andor]. With...

“I promise you”: Tony Gilroy Convinced Mon Mothma Actress for ‘Andor’ After Star Wars Deleted Her Scene 20 Years Ago
Image
Actress Genevieve O’Reilly is set to reprise her role as Mon Mothma in the second season of Andor. The Star Wars series is a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One, which saw O’Reilly appear as Mothma in a brief supporting role. However, the actress admitted she wasn’t keen on returning to the space opera saga after the film.

During an interview, O’Reilly discussed her original appearance in the franchise being deleted. However, she was glad to return for the 2016 film but had no intention of resuming the role for the prequel series, only for creator Tony Gilroy to convince her otherwise. Here is what O’Reilly had to say about her eventual return for Andor.

Andor Teases Tragic Journeys For 3 Major Heroes, But Only 1 Is Hinted to Die in Season 2
Image
Andor Season 2 is due to return on Disney+ in April 2025. The first season revealed the history of Cassian Andor, the Rebel Alliance spy who worked with Jyn Erso to steal the Death Star plans in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Season 2 is set to continue Cassian's story, following him right up to the events of Rogue One and revealing how he rises through the ranks of the Rebellion. The first season introduced Cassian as a thief, living with his adoptive mother on Ferrix, until he met Luthen Rael. After buying a stolen Imperial Starpath Unit from Cassian, Luthen recruited him for his first rebel mission.

In addition to Cassian himself, the first season of Andor explored the stories of several characters with important roles to play in the early Rebellion. Luthen Rael was one of the most notable, but he was joined by some more familiar faces. The...

The Only Star Wars Actor To Cameo In The Family Guy Parody Episodes
Image
The 2007-2011 "Family Guy" trilogy parodying the original "Star Wars" trilogy was audacious enough to work. The show's humor is built on cutaway gags, often ripe with movie parodies, so recreating the "Star Wars" movies wholesale took that to another level. At the time, both "Star Wars" and "Family Guy" fit under the Fox corporate umbrella, and "Star Wars" creator George Lucas is a "Family Guy" fan who was eager to lend support.

The "Family Guy" creative team are Gen X-ers who grew up with the original trilogy; the series' creator/lead voice actor Seth MacFarlane was born in 1973, so "Star Wars" was a part of his childhood. (Even if MacFarlane is ultimately more of a Trekkie.) However, "Laugh It Up Fuzzball" was released at the right time to get another generation's attention. Namely, young boys who (a.) were obsessed with "Star Wars" because of the prequel trilogy and (b.

Mon Mothma Explained: All Star Wars Movies, Shows & Rebel Origin
Image
Genevieve O'Reilly's role as Mon Mothma began in Revenge of the Sith but was cut, she later reprised her role in newer Star Wars projects. Mon Mothma, a crucial member of the Rebel Alliance, was a politician who worked to oppose Palpatine and ultimately founded the Rebel Alliance. Mon Mothma's story continued after Return of the Jedi in the establishment of the New Republic, where she became the first chancellor.

Genevieve OReilly has become well known for playing the party of Mon Mothma in Star Wars, a character of phenomenal importance to both the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. The British actress Caroline Blakiston played the character of Mon Mothma, a key rebel leader, in Return of the Jedi. Genevieve OReilly was cast for the role in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, with George Lucas interested in giving Mothma's backstory as a senator. Unfortunately,...

‘Ahsoka’ Is the Most Expansive ‘Star Wars’ Show Yet — But Risks Spreading the Galaxy Far, Far Too Thin
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in the Season 1 finale of “Ahsoka,” currently streaming on Disney+.

There’s a brief moment in the penultimate episode of Season 1 of “Ahsoka” when characters from at least four different eras of “Star Wars” occupy the same scene. The most recent character is Capt. Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), the New Republic ranger first introduced in 2020 on the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Then there’s the focus of the scene, Gen. Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), first introduced in 2014 on the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” as voiced by Vanessa Marshall. Presiding over it all is Chancellor Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), who has occupied three different eras of “Star Wars” on her own. She was first introduced (briefly) in 1983’s “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” as played by Caroline Blakiston, then showed up (even more briefly) in 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith...

How Andor Can Tie Into Mon Mothma’s Ahsoka Arc
Image
Ahsoka brings back many fan-favorite Star Wars characters for an epic Disney+ series that serves as a spiritual successor to the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. Starring Rosario Dawson as the eponymous Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, the new Disney+ series depicts the rise of a new and terrifying threat in the galaxy after the Empire's collapse in Return of the Jedi. Now, Ahsoka must team up with Sabine Wren and General Hera Syndulla in order to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn's rise to power.

Ahsoka also brings back one of the best characters in Andor, Mon Mothma, a character originated by Caroline Blakiston and now portrayed by Genevieve O'Reilly. Now the Chancellor of the New Republic, Mon Mothma was a crucial figure in the rise of the Rebellion, going on to serve as one of the alliance's greatest leaders in the Galactic Civil War. Audiences became especially acquainted with her in the first season of Andor,...

Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 3 Easter Eggs Explained
Image
This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.

So much of Ahsoka‘s third episode feels like classic Star Wars, from Sabine’s blind training nodding back to A New Hope to the space battle that combines elements from both the Original and Prequel Trilogies for one of the best dogfights ever made for Disney+. But that doesn’t mean Ahsoka has skipped out on bringing back a bunch of stuff from Rebels this time around. In fact, one major cameo allows this Disney+ series to pick up exactly where its animated predecessor left off.

Here are all the Star Wars easter eggs and callbacks we spotted in “Time to Fly”:

Evan Whitten as Jacen Syndulla

There was never any doubt that Jacen Syndulla would pop up in Ahsoka, but we definitely didn’t expect to see this little dude so soon. Introduced in the final minutes of the Rebels...

Ahsoka Is Connecting The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy And It's 'Time To Fly'
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 3 — "Time to Fly"Things are kicking into high gear in part 3 of "Ahsoka." Directed again by Steph Green and written by Dave Filoni, the episode shows the inertia faced by the New Republic when it comes to taking any military action beyond the end of the war. Few seem to believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) could be a threat to the New Republic, and others still think that the specter of Thrawn is just Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth-Winstead) trying to nab all the resources she can get to go on a selfish mission to look for her lost friend, Ezra Bridger (Emen Esfandi). While Hera spends her time arguing with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), the Chancellor of the Republic, another journey is underway. Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), and Huyang (David Tennant) travel to Seatos in...

10 Star Wars Characters Who Have Been Played By Multiple Actors

Lucasfilm’s latest Star Wars streaming series, Andor, has been praised for its cast’s nuanced performances, from Diego Luna’s thrilling work in the title role to Stellan Skarsgård’s fierce portrayal of Rebel bankroller Luthen Rael to Genevieve O’Reilly’s poignant turn as Mon Mothma, torn between her duties as an Imperial senator and her secret work with the Rebellion.

O’Reilly is hardly the first actor to put her own personal stamp on a Star Wars role played by a different actor. She took over the role of Mon Mothma from Caroline Blakiston, Ewan McGregor took over the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi from Alec Guinness, and Temuera Morrison took over the role of Boba Fett from Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan.

Star Wars: 10 Leaders Of The Rebel Alliance That Don't Get Enough Credit
Image
The Star Wars universe continues to expand with brand-new Disney+ series like Tales of the Jedi and Andor. As a result, certain eras of the franchise have been fleshed out in further detail, giving audiences even more reasons to love a galaxy far, far away.

With the pre-a New Hope content rampant in recent years, fans have received new insights into the formation of the Rebel Alliance and the subsequent fall of the Galactic Empire. However, while certain heroes like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo get much of the glory for the Empire's defeat, there are some Rebel leaders who simply aren't given enough credit for their contributions to the cause.

Senator Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma was a Senator for the planet of Chandrila during the final years of the Republic and the early days of the Galactic Empire. Portrayed in her younger years by Genevieve O'Reilley and...

In Andor Episode 11, The Biggest Threats To The Rebellion Are The Tiniest Details
Image
One way out ... of this article, that is, for those who haven't watched the latest episode of "Andor." Spoilers abound!

Compared to the movie that "Andor" first originated from, the prequel/spin-off series sometimes runs the risk of appearing downright uneventful next to the epic heroism of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." While the standalone film depicted some of the biggest and most spectacular battles in "Star Wars" history,  the action in "Andor" feels far more restrained and low-key. In fact, two of the show's most extravagant set pieces only appeared recently: last week's prison break and the unexpected dogfight that comes near the close of episode 11. Other than that, the Diego Luna-starring series has been content to carve out its own distinct niche amid this larger-than-life franchise, savoring the smallest details that most other stories would ignore completely and instead treating them with a deadly sense of seriousness.

Andor Should Have Made Mon Mothma Queer, and Still Can
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Episodes 1-5 of Andor.Andor’s been showing us a different perspective on the Rebellion. Rather than stories of Jedi and massive space battles, Andor puts us into a much more precarious position, following the sparks of a growing rebellion struggling to organize. Here rather than battles between space wizards we watch a story of calculated espionage as characters like Cassian (Diego Luna) hide their true identities to covertly aid the rebellion. One of these characters (and one of the few familiar faces in the series so far) is Senator Mon Mothma. Mon Mothma, originally portrayed by Caroline Blakiston and now played by Genevieve O’Reilly, is a character who’s existed within Star Wars canon for decades, but her role as a tertiary character meant we never learnt much about her. We know she’s a Senator working with the Rebellion and one...

A new chapter in Cassian’s journey to the Rebel Alliance begins in “Aldhani.” After escaping the Pre-Mor agents on Ferrix, Cassian agrees to join one of Luthen’s Rebel operations on the titular planet. The mission is simple: steal the payroll of an Imperial facility. But to do it, Cassian and his new associates will have to sneak past an entire garrison of Imperial soldiers. Unsurprisingly, Cassian doesn’t like those odds at all.

We also spend time on Coruscant, where we reunite with Chandrilan senator Mon Mothma, future leader of the Rebel Alliance. Andor Finally Justifies Our Longtime Obsession With Mon Mothma
Image
When the first "Star Wars" trilogy came out, there weren't many women in lead roles. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was a role model for so many young women at the time, but the rest of the heroes were men. In "Return of the Jedi," however, we saw another woman in a leadership role. Mon Mothma (Caroline Blakiston) was a former senator and a Rebellion leader. She wasn't on screen much, but she did say the pivotal line, "Many Bothans died to bring us this information." In one short sentence, this woman, this leader, reminded the Rebel fighters that their lives were on the line, not just those on missions, but the lives of the entire galaxy.

I had a bigger reaction than one might expect when I first saw her on the big screen as a kid. She was a revelation for a little girl in footie pajamas who continually...

Star Wars: Andor Episode 4 Review
Image
This Star Wars: Andor review contains spoilers.

Star Wars: Andor Episode 4

Before 2016, the character of Mon Mothma was mostly the answer to a trivia question. Although she is ostensibly the leader of the entire Rebel Alliance, Mon Mothma doesn’t even appear until Return of the Jedi, and then, only for one scene, to explain the plan to kill the Emperor and destroy the second Death Star. We don’t see her during the Battle of Endor, and she doesn’t stop by for an Ewok hug in the end, either.

Still, as played by Caroline Blakiston, the character left a big impression, and for hardcore Star Wars fans in the 1990s, Mon Mothma was omnipresent in the various Expanded Universe novels and comic books. Yet, despite her brief appearance in the Prequel Trilogy, as played by Genevieve O’Reilly, it wasn’t until Rogue One that it really felt like...

‘Andor’ Premieres a Darker, Grittier Take on ‘Star Wars’: “We’re Telling the Story of an Entire Revolution”
Image
Click here to read the full article.

With the premiere of upcoming Disney+ series Andor, Star Wars is exploring new territory.

In 12 episodes, Andor will dive into a darker, grittier and more complicated story than that of the more traditional tales of good versus evil that the sci-fi franchise is known for. And that’s largely due to the show’s titular character, Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna).

“If you’re gonna do something these days in Star Wars, it better be different, right?” Luna told The Hollywood Reporter at the series’ Los Angeles launch event on Thursday. “We just want to be risky, we want to bring something new and different into the Star Wars universe.”

“[Cassian] is not obviously good or obviously bad,” added director Toby Haynes, who helmed the first three episodes. “He’s a good guy who has to do bad things in order to get the job done.

‘Andor’ Star Genevieve O’Reilly Never Thought She’d Get the Chance to Flesh Out Mon Mothma
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Andor star Genevieve O’Reilly has been playing Rebel leader Mon Mothma in the Star Wars galaxy for nearly 20 years, but she never really got the chance to become acquainted with the character until now. Whether it was a Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith deleted scene that she shot in 2003 or her two scenes in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), O’Reilly likely spent more time with the character in a vocal booth for the animated series Star Wars Rebels. But all that has changed thanks to Rogue One co-screenwriter and Andor creator Tony Gilroy, who’s enabled O’Reilly to flesh out her Imperial senator character once and for all, as she begins to form the Rebel Alliance.

For O’Reilly, Andor has created an opportunity that she thought would never come.

“To have the opportunity to explore her...

Genevieve O'Reilly On Returning To Star Wars To Flesh Out Mon Mothma In Andor [Exclusive Interview]
Image
If there's one thing hardcore "Star Wars" fans love, it's taking to characters with relatively little screen time. There is perhaps no better franchise out there consistently ending up with these kind of results. Just look at Boba Fett, who had but a few minutes of screen time between "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," and yet, he went on to become one of the most beloved characters in the history of the franchise. But the nice thing about the Disney+ shows is that they have allowed room for some of these characters to grow (for better or for worse). Next up to bat? Mon Mothma.

That name is surely familiar to longtime devotees of a galaxy far, far away, as she was one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance in "Return of the Jedi," famously delivering "many Bothans died" line. Genevieve O'Reilly played the character in...

Diego Luna Was Ready To 'Move On' From Star Wars Until He Was Offered Andor
Image
In the "Star Wars" universe — the cinematic one, not the literal one — standalone projects have become popular storytelling tools, and with good reason. If done right, they can be really effective, both at adding context to an unexplored event and informing a period of a beloved character's life. But what happens when a standalone leaves behind more questions than it answered? When one-off characters introduced to propel a story actually become fan favorites?

When it comes to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" — the film that famously killed off most of the characters it introduced — it can feel almost foolish to hope for more. Even Diego Luna, who played Rebel spy Cassian Andor in the film, treated "Rogue One" like a one-and-done project. The self-proclaimed "Star Wars" fan didn't expect much in terms of a spin-off.

Luna made peace with his time in that galaxy far away; he later told...

Andor Will Showcase A New Side Of Mon Mothma
Image
Mon Mothma has been an integral figure in the "Star Wars" saga since her first film appearance in "Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi." Having opposed Chancellor Palpatine's power grab during the Clone Wars, she became the leader of the Rebel Alliance, and lived to see the defeat of Empire. And yet, as a live-action character, she's been completely underserved. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" gave her a bit more to do, but it was still jarring to emerge from the film knowing so little about the woman who founded and led the resistance.

If you've been craving mo' Mothma, here's some splendid news: "Andor," the "Star Wars" spin-off series in which Diego Luna reprises his "Rogue One" role as the charming thief who eventually sticks his neck out to join the Alliance, will prominently feature the Rebel leader. And it sounds like Genevieve O'Reilly, who...

Here's How A Key Star Wars Character Will Figure Into The Plot Of Andor
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, Warwick Davis, David Prowse, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Carter, and Larry Ward in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
"Many Bothans died to bring us this information." It's the line everyone remembers from 1983's "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi," if only for the sheer gravity with which Caroline Blakiston delivers this statement as Mon Mothma. Of course, unless you know your "Star Wars" lingo inside and out, you've probably no idea what the heck a Bothan even is and likely refer to Blakiston's Rebel leader as "that lady with the white caftan." (The film doesn't exactly go out of its way to tell you her name.)

While Genevieve O'Reilly (very) briefly showed up as a younger Mon Mothma in 2005's...

Jane Featherstone, Stacy Martin join as judges for 2019 edition.

The Female Film Force, the UK-based initiative launched last year by online dating and social networking app Bumble, will return in 2019 in an expanded international format.

Last year, the company put up £100,000 to fund short films from five filmmaking teams from the UK and Ireland – the completed films were screened at an industry event in London earlier this year and are now being submitted to screen at festivals. ‘Poldark’ Review: Despite an Updated Adaptation, a Woman’s Lot Still Sucks in 18th Century Cornwall
Poldark (2015)
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 3, Episode 3 of “Poldark.”]

After such an eventful premiere — which, to be fair, was actually Episodes 1 and 2 together — Sunday’s latest “Poldark” was an exercise in frustration. The majority of the action was literally about people waiting: Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) in France waiting on word from an informant about his friend Dwight Enys (Luke Norris), who’s gone missing while out at sea, and their wives waiting to hear back about their respective fates abroad. “How frustrating is a woman’s lot,” Dwight’s wife Caroline (Gabriella Wilde) laments to Ross’ better half Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson). Ah, if only being left i were the worst of it in an episode that highlighted the gender inequities of the time.

The other source of frustration was with how poorly the female characters are being used, with only a few exceptions. As with “Downton Abbey,” one of the worst positions to be in for a woman is servitude,...

Poldark: a beginners’ guide

Poldark returns for series three this Sunday. If you’ve never had the pleasure, here’s what you’ve been missing…

Warning: contains spoilers for Poldark series one and two.

See related Why you should play Ori And The Blind Forest

Welcome to eighteenth century Cornwall, land of sumptuous landscapes, confusing personal pronouns and Captain Ross Poldark. The bearer of an ancient name and a tousled mane, Poldark’s the hero around this way. (Well, he is until series two episode seven, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves).

Known variously as Ross, Mr Ross, Mr Ross Sir, Cap’n Poldark, ‘that classless ruffian bringing shame upon his family name’ or ‘ee with t’alluring scar who can blast us tin-mine any time ee choose’, depending on who’s addressing him, Poldark is cut from typical Byronic cloth. He’s a gentleman rebel given to fits of...

Ross is still playing with fire on tonight’s Episode 7 of Poldark on PBS
Tonight’s Poldark is a bonafide nailbiter! Where are my Team Demelza people? This week’s Poldark (we are lagging in the USA as the series airs ahead of us in the UK) is full of action, as Eleanor Tomlinson’s Demelza is onto to the other woman [Elizabeth] in Ross Poldark’s (Aidan Turner) life. Aunt Agatha (Caroline Blakiston) is giving us amazing Dowager Countess/ Downton Abbey flashbacks as this rifle-packing mama would be a hit in the old Western territories of England’s former colony across the pond. We love her! There’s the matter of Prudie tonight too. Frigging Prudie! Hiding Elizabeth’s (Heida...read more...

‘Mon Mothma’ Will Be Utilized In Rogue One Much More Than She Was In Return Of The Jedi
In Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Mon Mothma appeared and briefed the Rebel Alliance on the plan for the Battle of Endor. Aside from that moment, she didn’t really have a pivotal role in the film. Mothma in Return of the Jedi was portrayed by Caroline Blakiston, however, in Rogue One, she will be played by Genevieve O'Reill. This isn’t O'Reill’s first time portraying the Rebel Leader. She portrayed Mothma in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Don’t remember? Well, you wouldn’t, unless you own the DVD version. Sadly, all of her O'Reill’s scenes never made it into the final copy of the film. Never to fear though, she’s back in Rogue One and ready to lead! Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, spoke on Mon Mothma’s role in Rogue One, and she revealed that...

Mon Mothma actress gets the last laugh after being cut from 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith'
James Earl Jones, Forest Whitaker, Wen Jiang, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Daniel Naprous, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Spencer Wilding, and Riz Ahmed in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
Mon Mothma. The ethereal enigma that is the leader of the Rebellion in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The senator from Chandrila who fought to curb the Chancellor’s power before he revealed himself to be Palpatine. The first chancellor of the New Republic and political tutor to Princess Leia Organa. For over three decades, Mon Mothma has been one of the most iconic women in the Star Wars universe. And now she returns in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Several women have had the honor of playing Mon Mothma. She was originally portrayed by Caroline Blakiston in Return of the Jedi. When the senator appeared in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she was voiced by Kath Soucie. And in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith the future leader of the Rebellion was played by Genevieve O’Reilly. But wait a minute! Mon Mothma wasn’t in Revenge of the Sith.

Mon Mothma Returns in 'Star Wars: Rogue One'
James Earl Jones, Forest Whitaker, Wen Jiang, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Daniel Naprous, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Spencer Wilding, and Riz Ahmed in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer hit this morning, and it is simply amazing! The perfect blend of old and new as the first spinoff arrives from director Gareth Edwards. While it has long been rumored that Darth Vader or Boba Fett might show up in this sneak peek footage, it was another iconic character that completely took fans breath away. Simply because she doesn't look to have aged a day since we first saw her in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi over thirty years ago.

Yes, that is Mon Mothma you see standing in front of that familiar neon green command center. First introduced in Return of the Jedi, Mothma served in the Galactic Senate and Imperial Senate as the representative of Chandrila, the leader of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and the first chancellor of the New Republic. At the end of the Clone War,...

Star Wars: Rogue One - breaking down the first trailer
facebook

twitter

google+

The first trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One is officially here. We take a closer look at what it all means...

If The Force Awakens had one herculean trial to undertake - relaunch the Star Wars franchise for a new generation of moviegoers - then Rogue One has a mighty task of its own. This is, after all, both a spin-off from the numbered Star Wars entries and also a prequel to 1977's A New Hope.

As history has already taught us, Star Wars sequels aren't necessarily easy to get right.

What Rogue One does offer, however, is the possibility of opening up the Star Wars universe in ways that were previously confined to books, videogames and other media. Director Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) has pitched his movie as a mash-up of Dirty Dozen and space opera; its basic plot involves the Rebels' attempt to steal...

'Rogue One' Trailer: First 'Star Wars' Standalone Is a Badass Rebel
The first trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" just arrived with a rebel yell and some welcome throwbacks to the Og era.

"Good Morning America" debuted the teaser trailer for the first standalone story in the "Star Wars" universe, which stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk, and hits theaters in December.

Felicity Jones's Jyn takes center stage, like Daisy Ridley's Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." We hear a younger Mon Mothma describe Jyn as on her own from age 15, reckless, aggressive, undisciplined. "This is a rebellion, isn't it?" Jyn quips. "I rebel."

Damn right, she does, and she accepts her mission: A major weapons test is imminent, and they need to know what it is and destroy it. This story is set just before the events of Episode IV, "A New Hope,...

9 craziest rumours about Star Wars The Force Awakens: Is Darth Vader back from the dead?
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
Nothing kicks the rumour mill into gear quite like Star Wars. As anticipation builds ahead of the The Force Awakens's December release, every piece of Force Awakens gossip pinballs around the web faster than the Millennium Falcon doing the Kessel Run.

But which possess the Force and which are pure Bantha poop? Here are nine huge (and potentially spoilerific) Star Wars rumours to chew over.

1. Rey and Kylo Ren are linked more closely than you think

The Star Wars movies have always explored blood ties and family, so is the notion that Kylo Ren and Rey are separated siblings?

Offspring of Luke? Son and daughter of Han and Leia? Obviously we can't say for sure, but the latest poster has fans speculating about the positioning of Rey's staff parallel to Kylo Ren's lightsaber. The previous Comic-Con poster for The Force Awakens places Rey between the light (Finn) and dark side...

George Lucas's digital tinkering with the Star Wars trilogy resulted in Hayden Christensen taking original Return of the Jedi actor Sebastian Shaw's place as the ghostly Anakin, and according to Making Star Wars he'll be the permanent (albeit heavily scarred) face of Luke's dad throughout the new films.

The charred remains of Vader's helmet were shown in the trailer for The Force Awakens, suggesting that the character's presence will be strongly felt -...
