Brooklyn Nine-Nine Reunion Gets Disappointing Update After Terry Crews' Perfect Idea
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the rare sitcoms that only gets better with time. Not only was its storyline intriguing and rewarding, with amazing writing and a great cast, but the character development, diversity, and approach to sensitive themes stood the test of time.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired between 2013 and 2021, and wrapped up after eight seasons. The sitcom had an ensemble cast led by Andy Samberg, and also starred Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker, Joel McKinnon Miller, and the late Andre Braugher. Conversations about a reunion have been going on since the series finale, and in ScreenRant's new video series Debunking AI, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz weighed in on Terry Crews' suggested reunion idea.

The actress is promoting the new season of Twisted Metal, where she stars as Quiet, and fact-checked several questions answered by AI on search engines. There were several related to Brooklyn Nine-Nine,...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg Remembers 'Good Person' Andre Braugher
Image
Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher formed a great comedy partnership on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Braugher shockingly passed away in 2023, and now Samberg is sharing his memories of working with Braugher.

Samberg spoke about his relationship with Braugher with other comedians. He made the comments on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, via Entertainment Weekly. Poehler said of Braugher, "I never had the pleasure of meeting him, he seemed like he was just playful and fun,” to which Samberg answered, “He was, and just a good person," before going more in-depth.

Braugher played Captain Raymond Holt, a police captain who takes Samberg's Jake Peralta under his wing and forms an almost father-son-like relationship with him. Samberg described him to Poehler as “so deeply moral and kind and pleasant and smart,” before saying, “We all absolutely loved him. I miss him a lot.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine had a memorable cast. In addition to Samberg,...

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Character You Likely Forgot Reacher's Alan Ritchson Played
Image
When people talk about Alan Ritchson they usually talk about his muscles or his fight scenes, but they don't talk about his sheer comedic presence. He first made his name as Thad in "Blue Mountain State," a character whose high-pitched scream I can still hear any time I close my eyes. Thad was the standout character on that show, and it was a performance that led to Ritchson getting cast for one-off roles on sitcoms like "New Girl," "Workaholics," and the only funny episode of "Black Mirror" season 3. But Ritchson's greatest sitcom role was his brief appearance in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," playing a character nobody saw coming.

The episode was season 6's "Hitchcock & Scully," which opens up with an intense flashback to 1980s New York City. Two suave young detectives beat up a couple of bad guys, save a damsel in distress, and look damn good doing it. After finishing up...

In terms of the greatest sitcoms of the recent era, many watchers point to Brooklyn Nine-Nine as being considered one of the best. It follows the wacky and odd adventures of the police officers of the 99th precinct in Brooklyn. Audiences returned every week for eight seasons to see their favorite characters chat and joke about numerous hilarious things. A sitcom's cast is one of the most integral pieces of the puzzle in having a successful show. Without one, the audience could feel disconnected or disinterested in the characters and their lives. If an audience isn't willing to stick around for many seasons, then a show just simply won't work. So when it came to Brooklyn Nine-Nine's cast, the show got it right from the start, but it also included one extra character that was never seen again in the entire show's run.

Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine has truly made its mark on television, winning over fans with its fantastic ensemble cast and clever humor. After wrapping up its 8 seasons in 2021, the beloved cop comedy left many fans wishing for more. While it doesn’t have any spinoffs or related shows like some popular series, B99 fans have some really exciting options they’ve been hoping for.

Among its characters, Detective Michael Hitchcock and Norm Scully stand out as the lovable, albeit lazy, duo whose backstory remains largely untold. In the season 6 episode, Hitchcock & Scully offered a tantalizing glimpse into their past, revealing their transformation from dynamic detectives in the ’80s to the laid-back officers we know today. The story has sparked interest among fans for a potential spinoff or prequel series, focusing on their earlier adventure.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 9 - Will It Ever Happen?
Image
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" first aired on Fox in the fall of 2013, immediately cementing itself as yet another classic from Michael Schur ("Parks & Recreation") and Dan Goor — so why did it end, and will we ever get another season?

The comedy, which was led by "Saturday Night Live" alum Andy Samberg alongside a perfect ensemble cast including Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller, focused on the 99th precinct in Brooklyn and their constant misadventures in policing — and that description alone might give you a clue as to why the series ended if you've, say, watched or read any news since 2020 or so. The show came to a close in the fall of 2021 with its eighth and final season after facing delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but even getting to eight seasons wasn't easy for this little show that could...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Actor Says Series Revival Is Unlikely
Image
Police procedural sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired its eighth and final season in 2021. While fans have been clamoring for more comedic shenanigans, a revival is not on the cards.

Melissa Fumero, who played Amy Santiago, recently told ScreenRant that while the concept of a revival is exciting, they would not be able to shoot more episodes without the late Andre Braugher. "We've definitely all played with the idea, and we definitely all miss each other so much, and miss spending our days together," she said. "I don't think we could ever do it, though, without Andre, so I don't know that that would happen. But, yeah, I hope to work in other things with everyone," the actor explained.

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Cast Won't Do a Reboot Without Andre Braugher

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will no doubt go down as one of the greatest sitcoms of the 2010s, and, as a result, fans are desperate for a revival. The hit workplace comedy following New York's finest ("just got a whole lot finer") aired between 2013 and 2021 for eight seasons. Fans would give anything to see Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago return for another season. But, star Melissa Fumero has a very respectable and heart-breaking reason why a Brooklyn Nine-Nine revival will likely never happen.

Speaking to Screen Rant to promote the second season of True Story, Fumero revealed the main reason why the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine won't re-unite for an official revival/reboot. Apparently, it's not just fans who are desperate for them to re-unite, as the cast have all been desperate to work on something new together. "We've definitely all played with the idea, and we definitely all miss each other so much,...

The Unproduced ‘Far Side’ Movie Sounds Like It Would Have Been a Disaster
Image
Gary Larson’s The Far Side may not seem like the best candidate for a feature film adaptation, considering that it contains no real narrative to speak of. But back in the late ‘80s, the iconic daily single-panel comic very nearly made the jump to the big screen, thanks to Alan Rudolph, the acclaimed director of offbeat films like Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle and Mortal Thoughts.

Not too much is known about the unproduced movie, although we did get a taste of what it might have looked like, thanks to actor Dirk Blocker. In 2021, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star shared photos from a Far Side screen test he participated in, recalling that, while the project didn’t “go anywhere,” the actors “laughed a lot and got to meet the amazing Gary Larson.”

In addition to these vaguely cursed photos, Rudolph revealed to The A.V. Club that his plan was...

10 Worst Sitcom Storylines That Almost Killed Their Shows
Image
Long-running sitcoms may fall into the trap of implausible storylines that don't align with the characters, testing the loyalty of fans. Despite some missteps, the best sitcoms can recover from unpopular storylines, redirecting the plot without destroying the overall show. Unpopular storylines like Joey and Rachel's relationship in Friends may be forced and jarring, needing quick resolutions.

All long-running sitcoms have to keep coming up with new storylines, so it's not surprising that even the best comedy shows have a few misjudged plots that almost ruin everything. Shows such as Friends, The Simpsons and The Office have all irritated fans with storylines that just don't work. This could be because the plot ideas are too contrived, or because they don't make sense for the characters.

The best sitcoms can correct course after a failed storyline, rather than letting it kill the entire show. Looking back on some long-running sitcoms, these...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: All Eight Seasons Ranked
Image
This article contains spoilers for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine remains one of the best network comedies of the last decade. This precinct full of silly, yet caring detectives has made us laugh, cry, and almost every other emotion in-between over the course of its eight seasons.

There’s not a single season that’s remotely bad, per se, but there are certainly some that hit the mark better than others. Andy Samberg quietly grieves the passing of Andre Braugher, his Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star, who played Captain Holt. Braugher's iconic portrayal of Captain Holt made him a beloved character on the comedy TV show during its eight seasons. While Samberg has not publicly addressed Braugher's death, other cast members have shared heartfelt tributes on social media.

Andy Samberg has kept mum on the subject of the passing of his Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Andre Braugher on December 11, 2023, at the age of 61, but what little he has posted implies the actor/comedian/singer is grieving in his own private way. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a comedy TV show hit from when it premiered in 2013 to its end after eight seasons in 2021. Though Jake Peralta (Samberg) is the clear star of the series, the rest of the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have plenty of screen time to make an impression on viewers.

Every Main Character's Age In Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Image
One of the funniest sitcoms of the decade, Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the detectives of the 99th Precinct in Brooklyn, New York, as they balance their personal lives and action-packed jobs. The series, which ran for 8 seasons, ended in September 2021, but it will remain in the fans' hearts forever.

Although Brooklyn Nine-Nine also had some dramatic scenes and heartwarming moments, its general tone was obviously comedic, and it highly depended on its characters' ineptitude and absurdity. More often than not, the whole squad behaved as if they were just teenagers in a high school classroom. But in reality, they're all adults at different stages of their lives, despite how old the characters of Brooklyn Nine-Nine truly are.

Updated on March 27, 2024, by Andrea Sandoval: Brooklyn Nine-Nine is an iconic sitcom with a wide following. While the characters all hang out together, most of them are at different points in their lives.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Every Captain The Precinct Has Had
Image
Captain Holt's no-nonsense leadership style was a perfect fit for the talented detectives at the 99th Precinct. Captains like McGinley and Pembroke had short stints, but Holt's bond with the team made him the best leader. Terry Jeffords stepping up as captain in the series finale was the perfect ending, showcasing his authority and respect.

Even with all the great characters on the show, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine captains managed to stand out. Over the years, the titular station in the Fox-turned-NBC sitcom went through several chief officers. Each had varying serving time, not to mention different rapports with the rest of the squad. At the end of the day, their respective stints make the team and the viewers more confident that Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) is the best one for the job.

The events of Brooklyn Nine-Nine were kicked off when the no-nonsense and stoic Captain Holt became the precinct's leader.

10 Reasons Brooklyn Nine-Nine Was The 2010s' Best Sitcom
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine showcased the best of sitcom brilliance, seamlessly blending comedy and serious topics. The stellar ensemble cast, with strong romantic arcs and endless laughs, made Brooklyn Nine-Nine a standout in modern TV comedy. The show's flexibility in balancing goofy humor with serious cop narratives, along with critical social commentary, marked it as a progressive hit.

Debuting in 2013 and running for eight seasons across two networks, Brooklyn Nine-Nine stands tall as the prime example of how good the sitcom formula can be. Focusing on the titular police precinct in New York City, the show was a workplace comedy that generated consistent laughs. The show's ability to hop around tonally with ease gave the gifted cast plenty to play with. Although it never lost touch with its goofy roots, the show became more emboldened to tackle hard subjects and face ugly truths, even turning that critical eye inward to examine the flaws with policing in America.

‘Cutting Class’ 4K Review – Brad Pitt Slasher Movie Is Easier to Appreciate 35 Years Later
Image
As the ’80s came to a close, so too did the first wave of the slasher cycle. While they would continue to be produced into the next decade, 1989 was the last gasp of a dying genre. Returning franchises and hopeful upstarts alike struggled to make an impact. We all know you can never really kill a slasher, but it would take Scream‘s reinvention of the concept in 1996 to renew broad interest.

Cutting Class, another ’89 entry in the subgenre, marked the directorial debut — and, as it turned out, sole directorial effort — from Rospo Pallenberg, who notably co-wrote Excalibur, contributed uncredited rewrites on Exorcist II: The Heretic, and served as a “creative associate” on Deliverance. Despite his pedigree, Pallenberg did not write the script; that was the work of Steve Slavkin, who would go on to create Nickelodeon’s pivotal series Salute Your Shorts.

The plot finds prototypical girl-next-door Paula in...

Why Is Hitchcock Barely In Brooklyn 99 Season 8 (& Why Facetime?)
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's final season had an unusual dynamic with the iconic comedic duo Hitchcock only appearing via FaceTime. Hitchcock's absence in season 8 remains unexplained, but the show creatively utilized FaceTime calls to maintain his comedic double act with Scully. The likely reason for Hitchcock's limited physical presence in season 8 could be related to Covid-19 restrictions or health risks for the actor.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Hitchcock season 8 role for the star only saw him appear via video calling over FaceTime, creating an unusual and unexpected dynamic for the sitcom's final run. Detective Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) was a part of Brooklyn Nine-Nine since the pilot episode, almost always seen alongside his work partner, and best friend of over 30 years, Joel McKinnon Miller's Norm Scully. In contrast to Scully, Hitchcock is an incredibly lewd man. He has dated numerous women young enough to be his daughter, lies on his online dating profiles,...

Andre Braugher Cause of Death Revealed
Image
Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been revealed to be lung cancer, his rep has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Braugher died Monday at 61 after what his rep then said was a “brief illness.”

He starred as master interrogator Det. Frank Pembleton on NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street for the first six seasons of the show’s acclaimed run, then played another cop, Capt. Raymond Holt — this time against type and for laughs — on the 2013-21 Fox-nbc sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

He won his first Emmy in 1998 for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Homicide after a season that featured one of its most memorable episodes, “Subway.” That was a two-hander in which Pembleton tries to unearth whether a man (Vincent D’Onofrio) pinned between a Baltimore subway train and the platform was pushed onto the track — while also trying to comfort him in his dying moments.

Poltergeist TV series is now in development at Amazon
Image
Last year, Amazon closed an $8.5 billion acquisition of the film studio MGM, giving them ownership of the studio’s thousands of films and TV shows. Earlier this year, we heard that Poltergeist was one of the six MGM properties Amazon was most interested in doing something with… and now Variety has discovered that a Poltergeist TV series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios! There are no plot details to share at this time, but Variety has been told “the show will be set within the world of the film”.

Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to executive produce the series for Amblin Television.

Tobe Hooper, who had previously made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive, Salem’s Lot, and The Funhouse, directed Poltergeist from a screenplay Steven Spielberg wrote with Michael Grais and Mark Victor. Spielberg also crafted the initial story. The film has the following synopsis: Strange...

Every Main Character In Brooklyn Nine-Nine Ranked Worst To Best
Image
The eight-season run of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was quite a ride. Premiering in 2013, the workplace comedy about the NYPD's 99th precinct capped its first season with surprise Golden Globe wins for best comedy and best television actor in a musical or comedy series for star Andy Samberg. The show continued to receive critical acclaim but never topped the television ratings, leading Fox to cancel the series just shy of its fifth season finale. Due in large part to the outcry from loyal fans, NBC swept in the next day and picked up the quirky comedy for an additional three seasons.

After an extended hiatus due to Covid-19, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" resumed production in a world shaken by anti-police protests following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. In response to growing cries of "copaganda," Samberg told People the cast and crew were "taking a step back" and "discussing how you...

One Last Heist: How Brooklyn Nine-Nine Said Goodbye
Andy Samberg
Of course, it all had to end with one last heist.  Brooklyn Nine-Nine said goodbye on Thursday with one final installment of the annual Halloween heist, and it obviously had to be the most complicated and twist-filled heist of them all. Jake (Andy Samberg) had decided to leave the precinct to be a stay-at-home dad, and planned the whole heist to be a goodbye to the squad, complete with sentimental gifts for everyone. But at the same time, Holt (Andre Braugher) was planning his own goodbye and Amy (Melissa Fumero) was planning a surprise goodbye party for Jake, turning the whole thing into a chaotic, memory-filled mess that was eventually won by none other than Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker). We couldn't keep track...

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Series Finale: Goodbyes, Promotions & One Last Heist
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the series finale of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine,“The Last Day”.

Eight seasons, spread across two networks –Fox and NBC–with a brief cancellation in between; Brooklyn Nine-Nine finally turned off the lights at the precinct with an hour-long series finale that brought back a slew of familiar faces from the series’ past.

However, in its home TV market of NYC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine didn’t quite get a proper sendoff with the final episode airing outside of primetime, at 7 Pm, to make room for the Giants game on the local NBC station.

After Season 8 which took on a more serious tone, tackling issues of police brutality, levity returned in the finale as Jake (Andy Samberg) surprises the squad with a final heist to commemorate Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) last day at the 99th precinct after her big promotion in the previous episode. This time,...

But in “The Last Day, Part I and II,” those frowns should turn upside down. There is, indeed, one final heist—it’s just not tied to a specific holiday! And it’s filled with all the hallmarks of those iconic episodes: betrayals, twists, and even a few tearjerker moments. Here’s how it happens.
