“Hello, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that the Democratic primary did not go the way I had hoped,” said former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was recently bested in the NYC Democratic mayoral primary by Zohran Mamdani, a political unknown who energized a young and diverse electorate to emerge as the party’s contender in the upcoming Nov. 4 election.

Conceding the loss after the late June primary, Cuomo praised his rival for running “a really smart and good and impactful campaign.”

However, in a video posted on X Monday announcing his run, the former governor, sounding and looking rather subdued, said, “My opponent, Mr. Mamdani, offers slick slogans, but no real solutions.” He spoke standing in front of some green in Central Park interspersed with handshaking around the city and promised New Yorkers they’d soon be seeing a lot more of him.

Updated: Zohran Mamdani held a solid lead over Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary race for New York mayor, signaling a major upset by a political unknown against the state’s former governor.

Mamdani led Cuomo by nearly eight percentage points, with more than 90% of the vote counted on Tuesday evening, according to the AP.

“Tonight was not our night; tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night,” Cuomo told his supporters, conceding that his rival had “won.” He credited Mamdani with running “a really smart and good and impactful campaign.”

Mamdani, a Democratic socialist and state assemblyman, has run a campaign focused on affordability, proposing things such as a rent freeze and city owned grocery stores. But he put a big emphasis on social media and a heavy slate of media appearances, contrasting himself with the Democratic establishment.

The Democratic primary to unseat disgraced New York City Mayor Eric Adams is in full swing. With only a few days left to cast ballots, the uber-wealthy and America’s pundit class are doing everything they can to promote former New York governor and current mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo and to tank the prospects of his main opponent: Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani.

While New York limits mayoral candidates to less than $8 million in direct spending on their campaign, Cuomo turned to PACs and Super PACs to skirt the financial limits.

The late Kevin Conroy will always be the voice of Batman. The 10th anniversary Genesis Prize was awarded to Streisand in recognition of her lifelong pursuit of social justice and commitment to being a “force for good.”

The Genesis Prize was established in 2014 when New York City Mayor, businessman and philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg was announced as its inaugural laureate. Described as “The Jewish Nobel Prize” by Time Magazine, the annual $1 million award recognizes individuals for their outstanding professional achievements, contributions to humanity and commitment to Jewish values. In addition to Bloomberg, past honorees include Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Natan Sharansky, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, Robert Kraft, Steven Spielberg, Itzhak Perlman, and other extraordinary Jewish leaders.

Ron Howard, Mike Bloomberg and Faiza J. Saeed are set to receive the Paley Center for Media’s Paley Honors Award.

The illustrious prize, recognizing the the trio’s individual contributions to media, is the Paley Center’s highest honor and will be presented at a gala event in New York next month, where each of the honorees will be recognized with video highlights of their media achievements and tributes from colleagues and other media figures.

“Each of this year’s recipients represents the very best across media, entertainment and business,” Paley CEO and president Maureen J. Reidy said in a statement.

Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh is among this year’s 19 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the White House announced Friday.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented annually, is the nation’s highest civilian honor, bestowed on individuals “who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace or other significant societal, public or private endeavors,” per the White House.

Yeoh made history in with her starring turn in 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” becoming the first Asian woman to receive the Oscar for best actress. She began her career starring in martial-arts action movies, notably “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,” and has starred in numerous other films including the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and Kenneth Branagh’s “A Haunting in Venice.” Yeoh also stars in the first Star Trek TV movie, “Section 31,” which recently wrapped filming.

President Biden on Friday announced that he would be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 recipients, including a handful of names familiar to the world of media and entertainment.

The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor that the President can bestow, and is given to those “who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.”

This year’s list of honorees include Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, who “continues to shatter stereotypes and enrich American culture,” according to the White House.

It also includes Phil Donahue, the journalist whose daytime talk show transformed syndicated TV and become one of the most influential programs of its era.

Other honorees include Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg, former Vice President (and the focus of An Inconvenient Truth) Al Gore and Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky.

A long-rumored video of James Gandolfini reprising his Emmy-winning role of Tony Soprano has been unearthed.

The footage (below) has Gandolfini and his co-star Edie Falco back in their roles as The Sopranos power couple Tony and Carmela.

The clip was privately produced in 2010 — three years after the HBO drama’s finale — in an effort to lure LeBron James to the New York Knicks.

The scene takes place “Two Years Later,” following the end of the show. “Yeah, life’s good here Carm, even if we are in the witness protection program,” Tony says to his wife. Then, they discussed the possibility of James moving to New York and finding him the perfect home: Madison Square Garden. The video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre and aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. The scene starts at the 9:30-minute mark.

The Democrat who delivered President Joe Biden his first defeat of the 2024 primary cycle wasn’t millionaire Congressman Dean Phillips or new age gadfly Marianne Williamson. It was a previously obscure Baltimore businessman with a name out of an Aaron Sorkin script: Jason Palmer.

Palmer shocked the incumbent, and denied the president a clean sweep on Super Tuesday, by winning the caucus in American Samoa. In so doing, his shoestring campaign — which he likens to a “lean startup” — matched the 2020 Democratic primary performance of Mike Bloomberg, who spent colossal $1 billion on his vanity presidential bid.

Mayor Eric Adams (D-New York) has expressed his desire to end the city’s sanctuary city policy and suggests that migrants “suspected” of major crimes should be handed over to federal immigration officials.

This proposal represents a potential shift in New York’s approach to protecting undocumented individuals.

Goldberg is an equity investor in Blkfam, billed as the first and only Black-owned and Black-focused family streaming platform. The free, ad-supported service launches Feb. 26 across multiple platforms.

At launch, Blkfam’s content library includes more than 20 syndicated series, with over 1,000 hours of animation titles, dozens of animated characters of color and diverse gender experiences, and hundreds of hours of original music-driven content. In addition, the company has 10 original live-action and animated series in development set to premiere on the platform throughout 2024.

“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain,” Kennedy wrote on X/Twitter. “The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super Pac without any involvement or approval from my campaign. Fec rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff. I love you all. God bless you.”

On stage to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, Haley called Judy Sheindlin, whose daily courtroom show made her one of the most famous women on TV, a “trailblazer” who is “tough” and “speaks hard truths” and “doesn’t mince words.”
