Leave it to Larry David to get both ironic and meta in a single short cameo.
14 Larry David: ‘Hannah Montana’
Larry David turned Hannah Montana into Curb Your Enthusiasm when he and his daughters made a very meta cameo: the girls complained that their dad wasn’t famous enough to get a table at a fancy restaurant.
13 Justin Bieber: ‘CSI’
CSI star Marg Helgenberger said that while Bieber was “very nice to me,” he was “kind of a brat” and locked one of the producers in a closet.
12 Prince: ‘New Girl’
Prince was a huge fan of the show, a fact no one knew until his manager reached out to Zoey Deschanel with a very scam-coded message: “Hello, I am manager to legendary artist Prince. He is loving the show New Girl. He would like 2 B on the show.” They eventually made it happen, and the episode was...

“Hello, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that the Democratic primary did not go the way I had hoped,” said former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was recently bested in the NYC Democratic mayoral primary by Zohran Mamdani, a political unknown who energized a young and diverse electorate to emerge as the party’s contender in the upcoming Nov. 4 election.
Conceding the loss after the late June primary, Cuomo praised his rival for running “a really smart and good and impactful campaign.”
However, in a video posted on X Monday announcing his run, the former governor, sounding and looking rather subdued, said, “My opponent, Mr. Mamdani, offers slick slogans, but no real solutions.” He spoke standing in front of some green in Central Park interspersed with handshaking around the city and promised New Yorkers they’d soon be seeing a lot more of him.

Why Golf Is Having a Moment — and It’s Not Just Thanks to ‘Stick’ and ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ | Commentary
For decades, I’ve tracked the currents of culture, pinpointing the shifts that shape how we live and connect. My work as a strategist and researcher has been about catching these waves early and unpacking their meaning.
Now, I’m watching another unfold: Golf is surging into a cultural moment, and it’s not just a game — it’s a reflection of what we’re craving, and we’re seeing it crop up in our cultural lives more and more. Popular programs like Netflix’s “Full Swing,” Owen Wilson’s “Stick” on Apple TV+ and the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2” are bright signals, but the story beneath them reveals why golf is resonating so deeply.
The scope of this shift is clear in the numbers: 47.2 million Americans are now involved in golf, a 38% jump since before the pandemic. Women and girls are leading the charge, with 800,000 new players since 2020. Girls...

Updated: Zohran Mamdani held a solid lead over Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary race for New York mayor, signaling a major upset by a political unknown against the state’s former governor.
Mamdani led Cuomo by nearly eight percentage points, with more than 90% of the vote counted on Tuesday evening, according to the AP.
“Tonight was not our night; tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night,” Cuomo told his supporters, conceding that his rival had “won.” He credited Mamdani with running “a really smart and good and impactful campaign.”
Mamdani, a Democratic socialist and state assemblyman, has run a campaign focused on affordability, proposing things such as a rent freeze and city owned grocery stores. But he put a big emphasis on social media and a heavy slate of media appearances, contrasting himself with the Democratic establishment.

The Democratic primary to unseat disgraced New York City Mayor Eric Adams is in full swing. With only a few days left to cast ballots, the uber-wealthy and America’s pundit class are doing everything they can to promote former New York governor and current mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo and to tank the prospects of his main opponent: Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani.
While New York limits mayoral candidates to less than $8 million in direct spending on their campaign, Cuomo turned to PACs and Super PACs to skirt the financial limits.

Kate Middleton pulled out of her scheduled appearance at the Royal Ascot horse-racing festival at the last minute, leaving Prince William to attend the event alone. The royal palace hasn’t given an official explanation of Middleton’s absence during the event. Interestingly, William will not be accompanied by Middleton when attending some of his passion projects over the next week.
In March 2024, the future queen of the United Kingdom announced to the world that she had cancer. She had revealed at the time that her plans, as part of her royal duties, are subject to change due to her health crisis. It almost explains away her absence at the Royal Ascot, but her absence from next week’s events may have an entirely different reason.

Closing arguments in Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial concluded Wednesday with the defense team claiming the former mogul is being scapegoated as the face of the #MeToo movement.
“If this guy wasn’t Harvey Weinstein, would we even be here?” Weinstein attorney Arthur Aidala asked the jury.
“It’s not because the defendant is Harvey Weinstein, it’s because he raped three people,” Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg said at the start of her summations.
Weinstein is being retried on a criminal sexual charge and a rape charge related to respective claims from a former production assistant on Project Runway, Miriam Haley, who alleges he forced oral sex on her at his Manhattan apartment in 2006, as well as from aspiring actress Jessica Mann, who alleges she was raped by Weinstein in 2013 in a Manhattan hotel. The Peabody Awards will honor veteran NBC News’ Chief Washington and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell with the Career Achievement Award, and the landmark sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live” with the Institutional Award during a June 1 ceremony in Beverly Hills.
Now in its 85th year, the Peabody Awards recognize the importance of storytelling and of narratives irrespective of genre or platform, whether the show be entertainment, news, a documentary, children’s programing, radio, podcasting or a video game.
Jeffrey P. Jones, executive director of the Peabody Awards, says that Mitchell’s long, distinguished career as a journalist at various capacities covering the White House and international affairs — and the gravity of both of those positions — makes her an obvious choice for the award.

The late Kevin Conroy will always be the voice of Batman. His 30 year tenure in the role, from "Batman: The Animated Series" to Conroy's fitting bow-out in "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths — Part Three," is immortal. Conroy brought his own life into the performance that redefined the Dark Knight; as a gay man living in mid-20th century America, Conroy could relate to Batman keeping secrets and pain bottled up inside.
But across his many times voicing Batman, Conroy's voice shifted. During the original run of "Batman: The Animated Series," Conroy's Batman voice wasn't quite as deep as it became. He also gave the character two voices: a light and laidback one for Bruce Wayne (which was Conroy's own natural voice) and a stern one for Batman.
Then, in 1997, the series relaunched with an updated art style as "The New Batman Adventures.

Jeff Bezos’ Next Big Washington Post Move: Opinion Pages Pivot to “Personal Liberties, Free Markets”
With David Shipley stepping down as editor of The Washington Post opinion pages, the newspaper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, has announced a dramatic shift in focus for the storied publication.
“I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages. We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets,” Bezos said on X on Tuesday.
The move would appear to bring the Post more in line with Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal opinion section, which has touted free markets along with conservative social viewpoints since he purchased the paper for $5 billion in 2007. And, similarly, The Economist and Michael Bloomberg’s Bloomberg Opinion tread in related territory.

John Mulaney took the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special on a five-decade journey through the ups and downs of the show’s New York City home base. Starting with the 1975 birth of the series, Mulaney’s star-studded medley began with convincing former cast members Pete Davidson and David Spade that the grimy 1970s was still a glorious time to live in New York.
From there, it was a decade-by-decade look at the city, with Adam Driver dressed as a hot dog, Kate McKinnon showing up as a disgraced former mayor Rudy Giuliani and Scarlett Johansson dressed as Audrey from “Little Shop of Horrors,” joking about real-life husband Colin Jost. Also, Nathan Lane sang an ode to cocaine to the tune of “The Lion King’s” “Hakuna Matata” — a song he sang for the film as Timon.

In newly unsealed court documents, Ben Affleck is on Harvey Weinstein’s Red Flag List (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Ben Affleck’s name on disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein’s “Red Flag List” raised more than a few eyebrows. This newly revealed list, uncovered in unsealed court documents, held the names of people Weinstein feared might be talking to journalists about his misconduct back in 2017. As the industry reeled from the revelations that fueled the #MeToo movement, Affleck’s inclusion in this infamous document added a surprising twist to the unfolding story.
This “Red Flag List” was part of nearly 1,000 pages unsealed at a New York courthouse ahead of Weinstein’s sentencing. In those pages, Weinstein’s internal worries came to light: around 70 names of people he suspected might expose him, a mix of accusers and Hollywood insiders who knew too much. The list surfaced during Weinstein’s seven-week trial when prosecutors...

The morning after their contentious first debate which saw Vice President Kamala Harris call former President Donald Trump a liar and Trump blame Harris for an unverified rumor that immigrants in Ohio were eating their neighbors’ dogs, the presidential candidates found themselves in very close proximity the annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan.
How close? Only President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg stood between them. In fact, it was Bloomberg who broke the ice. In a made-for-tv moment, the former mayor leaned over, tugged on Harris’ sleeve and pointed to Trump, who was looking expectantly in the vice president’s direction.
As she did last night at the beginning of the debate, Harris extended her hand to Trump and the duo shook, a gesture that caught some who had watched the previous night’s showdown by surprise.

“The Sopranos” fans got thrown a curveball in 2021 when Edie Falco revealed for the first time on an Atlantic podcast that she once reunited with James Gandolfini to reprise Tony and Carmela Soprano for a bizarre clip set two years after the events of the series finale, which infamously ended with a cut-to-black that left Tony’s fate in the balance. The purpose of the clip was to help the New York Knicks basketball organization lure LeBron James to the team.
Gandolfini and Falco shot the “Sopranos” reunion in 2010 as James was becoming a free agent after his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers expired. All of the top teams in the NBA wanted James, and the Knicks came up with the idea to make a short film with “The Sopranos” stars to help sell James on the Big Apple. A long-rumored video of James Gandolfini reprising his Emmy-winning role of Tony Soprano has been unearthed.
The footage (below) has Gandolfini and his co-star Edie Falco back in their roles as The Sopranos power couple Tony and Carmela.
The clip was privately produced in 2010 — three years after the HBO drama’s finale — in an effort to lure LeBron James to the New York Knicks.
The scene takes place “Two Years Later,” following the end of the show. “Yeah, life’s good here Carm, even if we are in the witness protection program,” Tony says to his wife. Then, they discussed the possibility of James moving to New York and finding him the perfect home: Madison Square Garden. The video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre and aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. The scene starts at the 9:30-minute mark.

The Democrat who delivered President Joe Biden his first defeat of the 2024 primary cycle wasn’t millionaire Congressman Dean Phillips or new age gadfly Marianne Williamson. It was a previously obscure Baltimore businessman with a name out of an Aaron Sorkin script: Jason Palmer.
Palmer shocked the incumbent, and denied the president a clean sweep on Super Tuesday, by winning the caucus in American Samoa. In so doing, his shoestring campaign — which he likens to a “lean startup” — matched the 2020 Democratic primary performance of Mike Bloomberg, who spent colossal $1 billion on his vanity presidential bid.

President Joe Biden faced his first defeat in the Democratic presidential primaries, courtesy of a previously unknown candidate, venture capitalist Jason Palmer.
Palmer, who hails from Baltimore, announced his gratitude and triumph via X: “Honored to announce my victory in the American Samoa presidential primary. Mayor Eric Adams (D-New York) has expressed his desire to end the city’s sanctuary city policy and suggests that migrants “suspected” of major crimes should be handed over to federal immigration officials.
This proposal represents a potential shift in New York’s approach to protecting undocumented individuals.
In a press conference at City Hall, Adams stated, “I want to go back to the standards of the previous mayors who I believe subscribe to my belief that people who are suspected of committing serious crimes in this city should be held accountable.”
Adams emphasized the need to return to the standards set by previous mayors, such as Ed Koch and Michael Bloomberg, who allowed police to detain those arrested and charged for longer periods, which enabled U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to issue detainers.
However, the current rules established under former Mayor Bill de Blasio provide a level of...

Update: Robert Kennedy Jr. apologized to family members for a Super Bowl spot that mimicked an ad run by his uncle John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential run.
“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain,” Kennedy wrote on X/Twitter. “The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super Pac without any involvement or approval from my campaign. Fec rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff. I love you all. God bless you.”
Kennedy did pin the ad to his X/Twitter account, where it remains.
Bobby Shriver, Kennedy’s cousin, objected to the spot, writing that his mother Eunice “would be appalled by his deadly health care views.” Mark Shriver wrote that he agreed with that sentiment against the ad, and Maria Shriver retweeted her brother’s objections.

Campaigns are finalizing their buys of local political ad time during the biggest live event of the year: the Super Bowl.
A few examples: Nikki Haley’s campaign has contracts for time during the kickoff on CBS stations in Charleston and Columbia, as she seeks a better-than-expected showing in the South Carolina primary later this month, according to records filed with the FCC. In California, Adam Schiff and Katie Porter have spots to run in Los Angeles during network’s day-long coverage.
As in previously cycles, the primary season is taking place amid an early year calendar of major live sporting events as well as award shows, the latter of which was apparent last weekend, when Joe Biden’s presidential campaign bought up time in major battleground states during the Grammy Awards.
Other candidates, including Haley and congressional contenders, also bought time during the Grammys, which saw its ratings climb 34% to almost 17 million,...

Judge Judy Sheindlin endorsed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley for president.
“She is principled, measured and has that illusive quality of real common sense,” the TV personality said. “I truly think she can restore America and believe she is the future of this great nation.”
Haley responded to this endorsement in a statement in which she called Sheindlin a practical woman worthy of the respect she receives from millions of Americans in her courtroom.
“I’m honored to have her support,” Haley stated.
Sheindlin previously endorsed the former mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, in the 2020 Democratic primary.
On January 22, CNN reporter Dana Bash sat down with Sheindlin to discuss why she would rather support Haley than Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
“I met Nikki Haley about a year ago because I was impressed with her four years ago, and when she decided to dip our toe in the water,...

As Donald Trump was about to step on stage on Sunday for another rally to tout the endorsement of another former rival, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley was about 30 miles south in New Hampshire, at a rally at Exeter High School, where a celebrity figure and daytime fixture was lending her support: Judge Judy.
On stage to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, Haley called Judy Sheindlin, whose daily courtroom show made her one of the most famous women on TV, a “trailblazer” who is “tough” and “speaks hard truths” and “doesn’t mince words.”
“I will tell you for all of those endorsements you talk about, those are the endorsements that matter, the ones where they’re going to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it, and they are going to tell you why, and it’s a combination of brains and heart,” Haley said.

Nikki Haley’s presidential race is entering the final days before the New Hampshire primary with some celebrity support: Judge Judy Sheindlin.
The Haley campaign said that Sheindlin, who announced her endorsement earlier this month, will join the candidate at a rally on Sunday in Exeter, Nh.
Haley posted about Sheindlin’s support on X/Twitter, writing, “Hard truths from Judge Judy.”
Sheindlin said, “Neither Biden nor Trump would know a Houthi from a salami unless someone whispered in their ear or spelled it out from them on a Teleprompter. We need a president like Haley who knows what’s happening — because that’s essential to knowing how to respond.”
Sheindlin produces and stars in Amazon Freevee’s Judy Justice and will headline Justice on Trial , a courtroom docudrama focusing on seminal cases.
Sheindlin backed Michael Bloomberg in his 2020 presidential bid, but otherwise said that she had stayed away from politics except to vote.

Judge Judy Sheindlin endorsed former Un ambassador Nikki Haley for president, saying that she is “principled, measured and has that illusive quality of real common sense.”
Sheindlin, who appears on Amazon Freevee’s Judy Justice, backed former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in his 2020 presidential bid.
In a statement, Haley called Sheindlin a “no-nonsense lady who has earned the respect of millions of Americans from her courtroom by being thoughtful, fair and honest. I’m honored to have her support.”
Sheindlin also said of Haley, “I truly think she can restore America and believe she is the future of this great nation.”
Haley is trailing far behind front runner Donald Trump in the latest polling for the Iowa caucuses. But some polls have showed her narrowing her margin with Trump into the single digits in the first primary state, New Hampshire. That primary is on Jan. 23.

President Joe Biden issued a brief statement on Henry Kissinger’s death on Thursday, a day after the former secretary of state died at the age of 100.
“I’ll never forget the first time I met Dr. Kissinger. I was a young Senator, and he was Secretary of State —giving a briefing on the state of the world. Throughout our careers, we often disagreed. And often strongly,” Biden said in his statement.
“But from that first briefing — his fierce intellect and profound strategic focus was evident,” he continued. “Long after retiring from government,...
