A recent trend that has been appearing in many popular movies and TV shows is the idea of alternate universes; that is, different realities which contrast heavily with the established world thanks to at least one key change occurring somewhere in the past. Movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have dedicated themselves to diving deep into the idea, exploring numerous alternate realities that could have existed just as easily as the ones the characters live in.

However, while many major motion pictures have been entirely focused on this idea, there are also numerous TV shows that have diverged from their main narrative in order to consider alternate realities as well. We’re all in need of a treat at the moment, and for Doctor Who fans, the universe has provided in spectacular fashion. To mark the 15th anniversary of ‘Rose’ airing on BBC One, creator Russell T. Davies will be leading fans in a mass re-watch accompanied by live Tweets from 7pm UK time tonight.

Not only that, but here on the official BBC Doctor Who website, you can read a Russell T. Davies-written prequel to ‘Rose’ about the last days of the Time War, beautifully styled as a Target novelisation.

Sorry folks, but this review begins with one of those “I was there when...” anecdotes.

Oddly enough though, it's probably the most terrified I've been when watching Doctor Who, even more than when I was three years old and running out of the room screaming at the title music. No – this time, I was fearful of the much-touted revamp being a complete dog's dinner.

So there I was with my wife Ally, along with our friends Jacqui and Richard. It was, I think, the Saturday of the Easter weekend. We'd heard all about the big, exciting launch of Doctor Who, now bang-up-to-date for a 21st century take on a show that had once been scorned at for being cheap old hat.
