The series expanded on characters from its predecessor as well as welcoming new characters (such as Audra McDonald's Liz Reddick and Delroy Lindo's Adrian Boseman) who helped craft a tone that was rather different from the last series. The Good Fight's...

The upcoming sixth season of The Good Fight will be the last for the acclaimed series, which helped launch Paramount+ predecessor CBS All Access as its first original series. Production is currently underway in New York City on Season 6, which will premiere Sept. 8. This wraps a 13-season run for Robert and Michelle King, creators and executive producers of The Good Wife, which aired on CBS for seven seasons, and co-creators/executive producers of spinoff The Good Fight.
As usual, The Good Fight will be topical and reflect current events in Season 6, which has Diane (Christine Baranski) feeling like she’s going crazy, struggling with an uneasy sense of déjà vu, with everything from Roe v. Wade, to voting rights, to Cold War aggressions returning. Meanwhile, the lawyers of Reddick & Associates wonder if the violence that they see all around them points to an impending civil war.

Although their characters are all smooth talking legal experts on Paramount+ series “The Good Fight,” occasionally, some of the actors flub a line or two. And this is documented hilariously in this gag reel clip from the DVD release of Season 5, exclusive to TheWrap.
Mandy Patinkin, who plays Judge Wackner, is first up in the video, combining recess and research into a brand new word. Then Jane Curtin, who plays Judge Farley, replaces one defendant’s name for another. You can see more of the moments that left the cast chuckling in the video at the top of this page.
“The Good Fight” Season 5 drops May 3 on DVD, spanning three discs. It will also included deleted scenes.
Here’s Season 5’s logline: “In the latest season, Diane (Christine Baranski) is forced to question whether it’s appropriate for her to help run an African American law firm with Liz (Audra McDonald...

Mandy Patinkin’s Judge Hal Wackner, the latest kooky character on the Paramount+ series “The Good Fight,” makes his litigants end each lawsuit by saying to one another, “I respect and I love you.” Critics have shared the exact same sentiment about this criminally underrated series, which has been earning some of the best notices of its entire run for its brilliantly bizarre fifth season that wraps up on Thursday.
Its new characters, including Patinkin’s Wackner and Charmaine Bingwa‘s enigmatic new lawyer Carmen Moyo, topical episodes on medical racism in the treatment of Covid-19 and hilarious, moving visits from historical figures like Elaine May’s Ruth Bader Ginsberg have earned the plaudits of critics. Kevin Fallon (Daily Beast) calls the season “flawless,” writing that the show is “having what may be its best season ever,” including “the most thrilling stretch of episodes in a TV series this year.

“The Good Fight” doesn’t reflect reality so much as has one foot just beyond it on either side. Since its debut in 2017, it’s taken slices of headline fodder and put them in a TV context, reconfiguring and prodding at them under the guise of a fascinating legal drama. A few of the faces from the opening season cast photos have gone. The White House intrigue that generated the current underneath so much of its early seasons has since faded somewhat, but not entirely.
Despite those changes (and in the midst of tumult inside the world of the show and the one of the people watching it), “The Good Fight” comes back for Season 5 on Paramount+ with a renewed sense of purpose, as focused as it’s ever been.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Season 5 premiere of “The Good Fight,” streaming now on Paramount Plus.
The fourth season of “The Good Fight” was cut short because of the Covid-19 pandemic, running for only seven episodes last spring instead of its planned 10. Yet, it ended perfectly, with the final moments of the season lingering on a shot of Jeffrey Epstein’s undiscovered, disembodied brain and penis encased for time immemorial. Below the floating penis was a plaque that said “Bud.”
How could the finale have been better?
But what creators Michelle and Robert King didn’t get to resolve in the abbreviated season was tying up the arc about Memo 618, the mysteriously sinister cabal of corrupt Chicago judges that seemed to be run by people in the highest echelons of power in the United States — and which Diane (Christine Baranski) and Julius (Michael Boatman) were trying to expose.

Exclusive: The Good Fight is getting a high-profile new cast addition for Season 5. Emmy and Tony winner Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) is joining the praised Paramount+ drama series as a series regular with a one-year deal.
Patinkin will play Hal Wackner, a layman with no legal training who spontaneously decides to open a court in the back of a copy shop. Against all odds, the court catches on, and the team at Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart find themselves contending with judgements that mean nothing legally, but are honored by much of the entertained public.
This marks Patinkin’s return to television following his eight-season run as CIA vet Saul Berenson on Showtime’s Homeland, which landed him a Golden Globe nomination and four out of his seven Emmy nominations. On election night 2016, CBS All Access’ “The Good Fight” was filming its pilot episode, which had baked into its premise the assumption that Hillary Clinton would win the presidency. Her loss not only inspired the show’s opening scene, in which Christine Baranski’s feminist attorney Diane Lockhart watches Donald J. Trump’s inauguration aghast, but also proved kismet for the series, which fast became the most incisive political satire of the Trump era. With Trump’s tenure now ended, will Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild voters finally honor this delightfully bonkers legal thriller with first-ever nominations?

The earliest Charles Burnett film to survive is his second, Several Friends (1969); the first is lost. Several Friends ambles in and out of a day in the lives of different friend groups who don’t intersect but are bound by a looming sense that, for reasons big enough to know but too abstract to confront, they can’t seem to get where they’re trying to go. There are no barriers between them and the exit, not so much as a locked door, but whenever the ne’er do wells get up to go, they find themselves turning back. Other than the obvious class differences, there is a key distinction between the two films. In Several Friends,...

Almost ten years ago, Michael J. Fox made his first of many celebrated appearances on the CBS Emmy-winning legal drama “The Good Wife” playing lawyer Louis Canning, who notoriously garners sympathy with judges and juries with his disarming sense of humor about his neurological condition. Now, a decade later, Fox returns to the role in the fourth season of the critically-acclaimed “Wife” spinoff “The Good Fight,” rematching legal wits with Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and reintroducing audiences to an unscrupulous character who fans love to loathe.
In the episode “The Gang Tries to Serve a Subpoena,” Fox’s Canning squares off against Baranski’s Lockhart in a straightforward eminent domain case, but progress stalls when Canning tells newly-minted judge Julius Cain (Michael Boatman) that his client refuses to comply with the court’s subpoena. Fox plays his scenes with a thin air of deference, lending a friendly face to his...

Cush Jumbo will not be returning to “The Good Fight” when the CBS All Access show comes back for its fifth season, Variety has confirmed.
“I have had the most amazing time over the last five years working with Robert, Michelle and the crews of both ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Good Fight,'” Jumbo said. “I will miss them all so much, but am so excited to explore pastures new. Due to the pandemic forcing us to shut down early we weren’t able to wrap up Lucca’s story fully and so I hope if schedules allow I can return next season to do that.”
