Paramount Pictures’ action horror World War Z will be heading to a brand-new streaming home. The 2013 movie is based on Max Brooks’ best-selling 2006 apocalyptic novel of the same name.
Beginning on March 1, World War Z will officially be available to stream for free on Tubi. The movie is led by Academy Award winner Brad Pitt, who portrays retired United Nations investigator Gerry Lane. In the film, Gerry and his family get caught in the middle of chaos, after discovering that a virus has been rapidly turning people into flesh-eating monsters. Due to his former role in the U.N., he gets recalled back to duty in order to search for the cure, before the infection wipes out the entire human race.

Quick Links Did Chinese Censorship Contribute to the Cancelation of World War Z? The Planned and Canceled World War Z Sequel
The Brad Pitt-led World War Z may not have received the most critical acclaim, sitting at a 67% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences certainly came out in droves for the zombie epic. Considered one of the most expensive horror movies ever made, with an estimated production budget of approximately $190 million, the movie more than doubled its budget, raking in $540 million worldwide.
This success typically has production companies salivating for sequels, spin-offs, merchandise, and cross-promotions (at least fans got a decent video game in 2021's World War Z). While this was the plan to move forward and see how far they could turn the film into a bankable horror franchise, it soon petered out, with World War Z now more of a side note in horror history. But what exactly happened?...

The scariest zombies in cinema have made their way to streaming, as World War Z is available to stream on Paramount+. Starring Brad Pitt as Gerry Lee, a former Un employee, World War Z follows Lee around the world as he desperately fights to survive the hordes of sprinting zombies, and searches for a cure. Directed by Marc Forster, World War Z also stars Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, Fana Mokoena, and Matthew Fox.
World War Z received decent reviews upon its theatrical release in 2013. The action/horror blockbuster boasts a 67% critics score, with a slightly stronger 72% audience rating. As well as being the rare movie where Pitt is put under the spotlight, without any other A-list actors around him, World War Z is renowned for having the most terrifying zombies in all cinema. Despite starring Brad Pitt and featuring zombies, production on a sequel to 2013's World War Z has stopped and started so many times that it is seemingly impossible to bring to life. Well, one star of the first movie that is still hopeful for the eventual resurrection of a sequel is Hanna star Mireille Enos who said in a recent interview that it would be "such a shame" if the David Fincher-directed zombie movie never gets made.
"It seems like such a shame for it not to be made. The first one was so good."
The actor continued saying what many fans of the first movie have been thinking all these years, "It seems to have a little curse hanging over it." Enos was clearly enamored with the World War Z 2 script and the choice of Gone Girl director David Fincher saying, "We were all lined up to go.

Ewan McGregor will play a World War II prisoner of war who hatches a plan to use a cow to help him escape captivity and find his way across Germany to freedom. Marc Forster will direct “The Cow,” which is a remake of classic French comedy “The Cow and I,” with shooting set to begin in the fall.
WestEnd Films has boarded the picture and will introduce it to international buyers in Cannes. North American sales are being handled by Linda Lichter.
The original version, known in French as “La Vache et le Prisonnier,” was based on a novel by Jacques Antoine and directed by Henri Verneuil. Starring Fernandel, the film was a big hit locally in the late 1950s.
The English-language remake reunites McGregor with Forster after their recent collaboration on the upcoming Disney picture “Christopher Robin,” which will be released in the summer. The pair also worked together on 2005 movie “Stay.

Despite Paramount Pictures removing the World War Z sequel (along with the new Friday the 13th movie) from their release schedule early this year, hope for the Brad Pitt project stayed afloat, with filmmaker David Fincher reportedly still interested in taking the directing reins on the follow-up to 2013's World War Z. In a recent interview with Empire, Fincher addressed the status of the World War Z sequel, confirming his interest and giving fans of the first film a glimmer of hope, even though the film is in the early stages of reanimation.
Fincher was recently a guest on Empire's podcast to discuss his new Netflix series Mindhunters, but he also touched on the long-gestating World War Z sequel, saying (via Collider):
“I worked on a show for HBO that didn’t see the light of day and at the same time was doing [Mindhunter], and then did [Mindhunter], and I...

Following the revelation that the new Friday the 13th movie has been canceled after Paramount Pictures removed it from their release schedule, some are fearing that the World War Z sequel might suffer a similar fate after vacating its 2017 release slot, but it appears that director David Fincher is still interested in keeping the living dead project alive.
According to THR, David Fincher remains “very creatively interested in directing the movie” after Paramount took the sequel to 2013’s World War Z off of their release schedule, presumably to set it for a later release in 2018 or ’19. World War Z 2 was initially slated to come out on June 9th of this year.
Back in August, it was first reported that Finhcer was in early discussions with the film’s star and producer Brad Pitt to helm the sequel after J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) departed the project. Fincher has previously worked with Pitt on Se7en,...

Shortly after World War Z took in an impressive $66 million at the box office this June, Paramount Pictures announced a sequel was moving forward. At the time, it wasn't known if Marc Forster would be coming back to direct. Today we have word that the director is not returning for the zombie sequel, although it is still moving forward and is in development.
Here's what star/producer Brad Pitt had to say about the follow-up.
"We are talking about it. We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas."
The original World War Z, which went on to gross $539 million worldwide from an estimated budget of $190 million, had several writers credited, including Matthew Michael Carnahan, J. Michael Straczynski, Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof. It isn't known if the studio plans on...

World War Z - Paramount Pictures - Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD Director: Marc Forster Cast: Brad Pitt, James Badge Dale, Ludi Boeken, Matthew Fox, David Morse. Full cast + crew As someone who spent months bemoaning how World War Z was guaranteed to be nothing like the book and would thus be terrible, it's time for me to eat crow. World War Z is actually a good movie. Would I have preferred a more faithful adaptation? Absolutely. Does it work despite its rush-to-save-the-world plot being the exact opposite of the book's? Yep. This is a tense, escalating, spectacle-packed zombie movie unlike any the genre has seen before. That doesn't make it the greatest zombie movie ever made, but it certainly makes it a noteworthy one...

Brad Pitt recently sat down with Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival and offered a brief update to the state of Marc Forster's possible World War Z sequels. Check out what he had to say.
"We're certainly talking about it, yes. We have so many ideas on the table from just the time we spent developing this thing and figuring out how zombie worlds work. We have so many ideas and so much information, we think we have a lot of stuff to mine from. We're going to do our best and see what we get out of it. We gotta get the script right first to determine if we go further."
The project has brought in over $500 million since it's release in June, so the sequel and a possible trilogy is very likely to happen.

World War Z sequel planned? (Photo: Brad Pitt turns into a zombie-targeting axe-murderer in World War Z) Following the early success of Marc Forster and Brad Pitt’s zombie movie World War Z, Paramount Pictures "actively will turn to developing a sequel," claims The Hollywood Reporter, citing studio vice chairman Rob Moore. However, the Reporter article features no Moore quotes explicitly stating that Paramount has actually given the go-ahead to World War Z 2 — or whatever a World War Z sequel would be called. Co-produced by Paramount and Skydance Productions, the $220-$230 million-budgeted zombie movie (minus rebates and tax breaks, its official budget goes down to $190-$200 million) debuted this past weekend in North America and 25 international territories, collecting an estimated worldwide total of $112.21 million: $66.41 million in the Us/Canada (behind Monsters University‘s $82.42 million) and an estimated $45.8 million internationally (behind Man of Steel‘s $89 million and Monsters University‘s $54.5 million...

After a successful opening weekend at the box office, Paramount Pictures has announced plans to move forward with a sequel to World War Z. The zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt took in an impressive $66 million last weekend, after many box office analysts had predicted the movie would open in the $40 million range.
The studio has not announced whether director Marc Forster will return for the follow-up, but star Brad Pitt will likely return as U.N. employee Gerry Lane, who tries to track down the origins of a worldwide plague in World War Z. Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, Fana Mokoena and David Morse co-starred, but their return for the follow-up is also unknown.

World War Z weekend box office: Monsters rule, but zombies are the big surprise hit (photo: Brad Pitt in World War Z) World War Z, Brad Pitt, and his living-dead pals have turned out to be the big (happy) surprise at the North American box office this weekend, June 21-23, 2013. In case Friday’s estimates are on target, the $190-$200 million-budgeted World War Z should collect $57-$60 million by Sunday evening, or about $10-$15 million more than many pundits had been expecting. Yesterday, World War Z opened with $25 million — about $5 million above early estimates — from 3,607 locations according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. That figure includes $3.6 million from Thursday evening screenings. In case there’s a Saturday surge for Marc Forster’s Paramount-distributed PG-13 zombie movie, World War Z could actually go quite a bit beyond the $60 million mark. That’s good news for the studio and for producer Brad Pitt,...

World War Z box office vs. Monsters University vs. Man of Steel (photo: Brad Pitt in World War Z) The North American box office will be huge this weekend, June 21-23, 2013. You’ve surely read that elsewhere, and it’s no exaggeration. The combined gross of the top three movies alone — Monsters University, World War Z, Man of Steel — should hover around $180 million. Now, what remains to be seen is if there’ll be any dollars (whether Canadian or American) left for the dozens of other movies on North American screens. It’s like having huge supermarkets making little neighborhood stores disappear from view. But hey, that seems to be exactly what the moviegoing public wants. According to early, rough estimates found at Deadline.com, Disney / Pixar’s Monsters University will easily top the domestic box office following a Friday gross around $25-$28 million, in addition to $2.6 million from Thursday evening screenings.

Brazil protests lead Brad Pitt to cancel World War Z promo trip in Rio Brad Pitt has canceled plans to come to Brazil to promote World War Z, which opens in that country on June 28, 2013. Pitt was expected to arrive later tonight, June 21, with daughters Shiloh and Zahara, according to the Rio de Janeiro daily O Globo. The reason for Pitt’s cancellation are the “Brazil Protests,” a wave of demonstrations that last night brought approximately one million Brazilians to the streets, protesting against police brutality, government and corporate corruption, dismal public services, and billions of public money being spent on state-of-the-art facilities for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games while the country’s health and education infrastructure is crumbling. World War Z distributor Paramount Pictures has made no pronouncements regarding Brad Pitt’s decision, adding only that director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace, Finding Neverland) will also no...

With the release of Brad Pitt’s new film, we invite you to enter to win a copy of the World War Z soundtrack. The score is available now on Warner Bros. Records, featuring music by Marco Beltrami.
Beltrami, who brought the unique sounds of clacking teeth and wailing sirens to his score for World War Z, based all the melody, harmony and rhythm of the score on the U.S. Emergency Broadcast System signal siren, and then incorporated non-traditional percussive elements, like the sound of animal skulls teeth being mashed together, creating an atypical sonic palette, blending the rhythms of bone-on-bone with a full orchestra.
Read Wamg’s interview with Marco Beltrami Here.
Answer the following:
The prolific, Italian-born film composer got his start with the teen horror franchise “Scream.” Marco Beltrami has had two of his scores nominated for Oscars.

World War Z is easily the best time I’ve had at the movies so far this summer. Yes, I’ve heard all the stories about the huge production going over budget and all the reshoots and multiple script doctors, but for me, none of that was evident in the finished product.
Not being a fan at all of the zombie genre that has become so popular of late, I saw this more as a “global disaster” movie that had huge portions of the population affected and infected by a worldwide pandemic.
Brad Pitt is Gerry Lane, a former Un field investigator that now enjoys life as a family man with his wife (Mireille Enos) and daughters. In a hot second he goes from that tranquility to having to save his family and basically the rest of the world from marauding zombies. The infected folks are quite frightening as they...

Film: "World War Z"; Director: Marc Forster; Cast: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Ludi Boeken, Matthew Fox, Fana Mokoena, David Morse, Elyes Gabel, Peter Capaldi, Sterling Jerins and Abigail Hargrove; Rating: **
"World War Z" is a subtle combination of a medical thriller and a horror film. Packed with fleetingly captivating emotional moments and mobs of panic-stricken people running from something we cannot see, the film evokes mixed reaction.
Inspired by, if not really based on Max Brooks' novel with the same name, the story is about zombie - Apocalypse.
Director Marc Froster wastes no time.

I didn’t think that World War Z would turn out to be an enjoyable movie. The signs of a troubled film production were there: substantial changes in the screen story from the source material; extensive reshoots of the movie’s ending; big budgetary overruns; and rumors of the director and the star clashing to the point that they had stopped speaking to each other.
But the final product works. World War Z is a decent movie.
Brad Pitt plays our hero, the guy that gets called out of retirement and away from his family because only he can save the world, in this particular story from the lightning quick spread of the undead. A zombie virus is rapidly killing off the global population. In the movie’s first 15 minutes we get to see how lethal the virus is, and how quickly a city can fall from the rising hordes of undead.

World War Z: Zombies movie offers ‘Breathtaking’ overhead shots [See previous post: "World War Z Review: Saved by Zombies."] These early scenes establish the speed and sheer number of undead and also unveil some visual go-to’s developed by Marc Forster (of the dreadful Quantum of Solace) and DPs Robert Richardson (who started the project) and Ben Seresin (who finished it and received sole credit). The most breathtaking are the overhead shots, oftentimes from a helicopter’s Pov, showing thousands of zombies filling the streets like floodwater. They figure prominently in the movie’s best section, when Gerry travels to Israel to investigate why the Israelis sensed the coming zombie invasion early enough to build a wall around Jerusalem. (Photo: World War Z zombies try to climb Jerusalem wall.) But since World War Z isn’t very interested in exploring the effects of a zombie takeover on social or religious order, the Israeli scenes, enlivened by eye-level shots of...

Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster hit the red carpet last night for the Moscow premiere of World War Z, debuting in theaters tomorrow. When asked about a possible sequel to this adaptation of Max Brooks' zombie novel, the actor revealed there is plenty more material from that book which could be used in future movies.
"There is enough to mine from the book. We could barely get a fraction of the book in. So we'll see. We'll see."
Director Marc Forster revealed he would be interested in a sequel, provided this movie fares well at the box office.
"Let's see how this goes. We hope this movie goes well and we shall go from there."
Back in January, we reported that both Paramount Pictures and Marc Forster viewed World War Z as the start of a trilogy. We haven't heard any official movement on a follow-up yet, but...

I just came out of the Hollywood screening of World War Z at the ArcLight Theater and I’m stunned and slack-jawed – it is that awesome! World War Z is ridiculously good!! You’re rooting for every character in the movie. I have no words for how great director Marc Forster’s thriller is. Nevermind the “jump” scenes that will scare the livin’ daylights out of you.
Composer Marco Beltrami’s score is spot on. It had me teary-eyed in more than a few moments throughout. The writing was really smart, keeping the pace moving along in real time. Every scene is absorbed with no time to breathe in between transitions. No long dialogue scenes. No unneccessary back stories. You care about all these people because they are human beings like you.
Brad Pitt is so amazing – dude, seriously, where did you come from? How are you this good? He’s not over the top,...

Brad Pitt is full of bad news in this new clip from World War Z.
On an ordinary day, Gerry Lane and his family find their quiet drive interrupted by urban gridlock. An ex-un investigator, Lane senses that this is no ordinary traffic jam. As police helicopters buzz the sky and motorcycle cops careen wildly below, the city erupts into chaos.
Something is causing hordes of people to viciously attack each other – a lethal virus that is spread through a single bite, turning healthy humans into something unrecognizable, unthinking and feral. Neighbor turns on neighbor; a helpful stranger suddenly becomes a dangerous enemy. The origins of the virus are unknown, and the number of infected grows exponentially larger each day, quickly becoming a global pandemic.
