Love Triangles and Dark Secrets in ‘A Corpse in Kensington’
Image
The curtains have closed on the production of A Corpse in Kensington, an ambitious horror project that promises to blend chilling suspense with moments of darkly humorous romance. Helmed by writer-director Brian Patrick Butler, known for his innovative film Friend of the World, the film is set in the atmospheric neighbourhood of Kensington in San Diego, California. The story follows a trio of entangled characters who find themselves stalked by a menacing killer. A unique touch? The killer may not be entirely human—or could be someone dangerously close, hiding in plain sight.

Derrick Acosta (Mega64) leads the cast as Lionel, a solitary figure haunted by a past infatuation. When he reconnects with his childhood crush, it appears he might get a second shot at love. However, his ambitions are complicated by her unpredictable boyfriend and a terrifying predator lurking in the shadows. The film’s plot intensifies as Lionel,...

Corn Crazies: The 11 Strangest Moments in the ‘Children of the Corn’ Franchise
Image
Forty-six years after publication, Stephen King’s Children of the Corn has become a B-horror institution. The short story, which first ran in a 1977 issue of Penthouse, follows a bickering couple who run afoul of a murderous cult of corn-worshiping children on a back road in Nebraska. A bleak example of horror in the daylight, the original text plays out like the bastard child of The Wicker Man and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. A 1984 film adaptation adds a sunnier tone while kicking off the story with a brutal massacre in which the children of Gatlin murder their parents. But this jarring tone is not the strangest thing to happen in the corn.

The franchise’s eleven entries are a cinematic cornucopia of ludicrous scenes and sequences. The following is a list of the most bonkers moments in the Children of the Corn series.

The eleventh installment in the franchise,...

Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
A couple months ago, we shined a spotlight on the 1984 Stephen King adaptation Children of the Corn for an episode of our Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series (you can watch that video Here). Now we’re taking a look at the 1992 sequel Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (watch it at This Link) for an episode of The Black Sheep! To hear what we had to say about Children of the Corn II, check out the video embedded above.

Directed by David Price from a screenplay by A.L. Katz and Gilbert Adler, Children of the Corn II has the following synopsis:

The neighboring town of Hemingford has discovered not only the gruesome massacre of Gatlins entire adult population, but also the orphaned children who refused to participate in the human sacrifices. The once quiet Midwestern town is jolted into activity as a barrage of media reporters descend upon it.

Revisiting the film of Stephen King's Children Of The Corn 2
Rebecca Lea Sep 3, 2017

Our lookbacks at the screen adaptations of Stephen King land at Children Of The Corn 2...

One of the more interesting aspects of these revisits so far has been how the sequels to different films have adapted to work without source material from Stephen King (Creepshow 2 aside). Mostly, they’ve not worked very well, but the Children Of The Corn franchise seems very determined to see if it can succeed in its seven further instalments. I like a challenge and have a morbid curiosity when it comes to these movies so I shall be watching all of them. Ask me again after the eighth Children Of The Corn movie as to whether this was a good idea or not.

Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (Review)
1992 - 92 mins. - Rated R

D: David Price

C: Terence Knox, Paul Scherrer, Ryan Bollman, Christie Clark

Picking up directly where the first film left off, the murdered bodies of the adults have been discovered and all the kids have been moved to a neighbouring town where they continue their reign of terror.

Unnecessary, but competently executed sequel, with some picturesque cinematography, is an improvement over the original simply because the film has an understanding that the material is trashy and plays up to that aspect. Forget about character depth or substance. This isn't what this film is about! Instead, Children of the Corn II is a guilty pleasure all about the cheap thrills! And it certainly delivers with plenty of cheap thrills throughout as the title children of the film find all kinds of creative and grisly ways to murder the adults of the film highlighted by some fine...

Party Favors: The Audio & The Visual
Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.

Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.

When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.

Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.
