Chris Pratt Is Perfect for the Dcu's Perry White, Not Superman
Image
James Gunn set comic fans abuzz with the recent announcement that at least one member of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast would appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. The possibilities are endless -- anyone from Will Poulter as Jimmy Olsen to Zoe Saldaña as Lois Lane -- but the go-to choice among fan speculation at the moment is Chris Pratt as Kal-El. It's the wrong move for several reasons, mostly because Pratt simply isn't right for the part. Another Superman: Legacy role, however, could be perfect for him.

Perry White, one of the Man of Steel's stalwart supporting figures, makes an outstanding fit for the actor. Not only does the role suit his onscreen persona far better than Clark Kent's, but he also represents a chance to take the character in a very different direction than how he's been depicted before. Superman: Legacy may...

DC TV Just Made 1 Old Villain Far More Powerful Than The Comics
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for Doom Patrol season 4.General Immortus, the first villain the Doom Patrol ever faced, has been made more powerful than ever in the HBO Max series based on the cult DC Comics series. Now known simply as Immortus, the villain has been a shadowy presence throughout Doom Patrol season 4, who seemed to be acting through his followers rather than attacking the Doom Patrol directly. This is true to the comics, but the true nature of Immortus and the full scope of his powers remained a mystery until the midseason finale of Doom Patrol season 4.

Immortus was described by John Constantine stand-in Willoughby Kipling as "an inter-dimensional deity capable of swallowing the entirety of existence whole." This is a far cry from the Doom Patrol comics, where Immortus was a formidable foe who commanded a vast criminal empire but was definitively not a god. Here is the rundown on Immortus,...

Review: Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons
Image
In the 1960s, Mort Weisinger ran more than a few stories speculating on what would happen had Superman and Batman married and had offspring, although no two stories were connected. Under Murray Boltinoff, World’s Finest Comics in 1973 began a series of stories about Clark Kent, Jr, and Bruce Wayne, Jr., which had its following. More recently, Superman and Lois had a son, Jonathan, while Batman met Damian, his biological son, grown in a test tube by Ra’s al Ghul. Once they established themselves, it was inevitable the youngster would be paired up and a series of entertaining Super Sons stories ran, mostly in the capable hands of writer Peter Tomasi.

Now, Warner Animation has paired them in a brand-new animated feature, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons. This is one of the most consistently satisfying offerings from the studio in some time and was fun to watch,...

Joe Corallo: The Right Way
This past weekend was Emerald City Comic Con. It’s one of the up-and-coming cons that seems to be getting exponentially bigger and more important to the industry every year. I have yet to have the pleasure and privilege to attend Eccc, but it’s on my bucket list.

Eccc has increased in importance to the point where some major announcements in the comic world are now made there. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, announcement made was from DC Comics. They announced a new DC imprint headed by Gerard Way titled Young Animal. The flagship title of this new imprint will be Doom Patrol; the first issue of which will be hitting the shelves in September of this year. I know he’ll be writing or otherwise involved in all the titles Young Animal is putting out including Shade, The Changing Girl, Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye,...

Nick Cardy: 1920-2013
Nick Cardy (October 16, 1920-November 23, 2013) died today after an illness. He was placed in hospice care over the weekend and leaves behind an enduring legacy of memorable artwork.

Born Nicholas Viscardi in New York City, he was raised on the Lower East Side and was already dabbling with art by the time he was six years old. He was painting and having his work published during his early teen years, taking free classes at the Boys Club of America. Raised in an era of gorgeous magazine illustration, he found inspiration in the works of Charles Dana Gibson, Arthur Petty, Al Dorne, and John Gannon among others. He continued his studies at the School of Industrial Art where he met and befriended Al Plastino.

In 1937, he went to work for an ad agency but two years later joined the Eisner/Iger Studio and drew stories for a variety of publications, notably Quality Comics.

Warner Bros. Developing A 'Starman' Movie?
Another DC superhero may take flight on the big screen.

According to Pajiba, Warner Bros. and Lin Productions may be collaborating on an adaptation of "Starman." While the rumor is currently unconfirmed, the story states that the project is being produced by Daniel Lin ("Sherlock Holmes") and Gregory Noveck ("Jonah Hex").

The first Starman was created in 1941 by artist Jack Burnley along with editors Whit Ellsworth, Murray Boltinoff, Jack Schiff, Mort Weisinger, and Bernie Breslauer. While the rumor doesn't state which version of Starman would be featured in the film, it does say that the character used will "wield a gravity rod, have energy powers, and likely be able to fly."

Over the nearly 70 years since the first appearance of Starman, there have been several DC characters to use that name. The first was Ted Knight — a founding member of Jsa who recently made a cameo in the "Absolute Justice" episode of "Smallville.
