Ewan McGregor's powerful new show about motorcycling has quietly become a huge streaming hit. Long Way Home continues the multi-part franchise that originally started with 2004's docu-series Long Way Round.
Long Way Home follows the Star Wars actor and his best friend, TV host and actor Charley Boorman (Deliverance and Excalibur), as they take a trip more than 20 years in the making all across Europe, traveling only by motorbike. Per FlixPatrol, Long Way Home has quietly become one of Apple TV+'s most popular shows worldwide. The travel show currently ranks #9 on Apple TV+s worldwide chart of Top TV Shows, putting it in contention with the likes of perennial favorite Ted Lasso and current chart topper Murderbot.
Given that Long Way Home is produced on a much smaller budget than many of the other Apple TV+ shows it's competing with, its current streaming success is particularly impressive. Reviewers...

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman step once more into dawn’s uncertain light, trading the glossy promise of electric steeds for the creak and rattle of vintage engines. Their odyssey unfolds like an elegy for youth: 10,000 miles of cracked tarmac stretching north to the Arctic hush and looping back through frost‑tinged woodlands and cobbled Baltic lanes. Stripped of excess, they navigate by a garage‑pinned map and the memory of shared heartbeats, each kick‑start a small rebellion against time’s relentless tick.
In this stripped‑down venture, every stutter of the 1970s Moto Guzzi becomes a meditation on fragility. With each sputter, one senses the quiet insistence of mortality humming beneath the roar of pistons. Yet they smile, reminding us that resilience often blooms from rust. Family farewells—glimpsed in soft, pre‑dawn light—anchor their freedom to home’s tender gravity: a silent question, “Can we ever truly escape our origins?...

Ewan McGregor and travel mate Charley Boorman hit the road again for another motorcycle adventure for Long Way Home. The Apple TV+ docuseries mark the next leg of their 20-year odyssey that started with Long Way Round, which took the two on a 19,000-mile journey across 12 countries. It’s there they immersed themselves in diverse cultures from London through Europe and Asia to New York. From there, the duo’s globe-trotting in 2007 took them more than 15,000 miles from John o’ Groats in Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa through 18 countries with Long Way Down. Three years later they reunited for Long Way Up, logging 13,000 miles from Ushuaia in Argentina through 13 countries up to Los Angeles while also exploring the scenic South and Central America. Here five years later McGregor and Boorman, who first struck up a friendship while working on The Serpent’s Kiss in 1997, have set their eyes on familiar places.

Wherever Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor goes, a certain bearded Jedi follows. In 2019, when McGregor and his travel writer friend Charley Boorman arrived in a small South American town (McGregor thinks it was in Peru) amid a long motorcycle journey, so too did a legion of fans excited to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi.
“We were in a small town and there are these long winding steps all the way up to this famous lighthouse,” McGregor says. “We were going up and someone asked for an autograph. I was happy to do that. Then the same thing happened on another flight of stairs up. Then a bunch of people were arriving going, ‘Oh, we didn’t know where you’d be.’ Turns out (our location) was on a Star Wars social media platform or site. They were always very friendly though. It was never a chore.”
For now, Star Wars is in the rearview.

The new Apple TV+ series, Long Way Up, chronicles Ewan McGregor's and Charley Boorman's three-month trip from the bottom tip of South America to Los Angeles, through wintry mountain roads and sparse deserts to decimated jungles. That sounds like an intimidating journey on its own, but trouble began

To celebrate the release of Long Way Up, the eagerly anticipated reuniting of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman after almost 12 years, we sat down with the guys to chat about all things motorbikes.
Together again after their first two trips – Long Way Round and Long Way Down – McGregor and Boorman have mixed things up this time by deciding to do their newest trip on electric motorbikes which presented the duo with some amazing equipment but also proved to be a different challenge altogether, not least with trying to charge their new bikes in the middle of nowhere. But they told us that overall it was the right decision but did make for some heartstopping moments in the show, not least seeing McGregor having to be pulled along to make a once-a-day ferry.
Covering 13,000 miles over 100 days through 16 border crossings and 13 countries, starting from the city of Ushuaia at the tip of South America,...

The Boys in the Band
There is a party, and this party calls for games. The rules are simple: Make a phone call, get a point. Get more points if the person you call picks up. Get a bonus if you deliver your message. All would be harmless if the premise were lower-risk. Instead, the players must call the one person they believed they truly loved. Given that the friends are a group of gay men in an era that wasn’t yet willing to accept them, tensions – and stakes – run high.

Exclusive: Charley Boorman narrates Steve McQueen motorcycle doc.
TV presenter and motorcycle enthusiast Charley Boorman, son of director John Boorman, has lent his voice to new documentary about Steve McQueen.
Cardinal Releasing handles sales on Desert Racer about McQueen’s love of motorcycles, with the producers looking for final finance to complete the film.
Jon Brewer (B.B. King: The Life of Riley) directs and produces for Emperor Media from Laura Royko’s script. The feature includes interviews with Chad McQueen, Steve’s son.
The hour-long biopic documentary, currently in post-production, explores the iconic actor’s obsession for motorbikes, his relationship with stunt double Bud Ekins and the film they were in together The Great Escape.
Through their shared love of bikes, the duo created a new track-racing bike, which McQueen took to England where he met up with the Rickman brothers of Metisse motorbikes, and the ‘Desert Racer’ was born.
