Stone Cold: Brian Bosworth action classic is coming to 4K!
Image
Craig R. Baxley started off working as a stuntman in the early 1970s, and just a few years later he started directing second unit on movies and TV shows. In the ’80s, he directed multiple episodes of The A-Team – and then it was time for him to make his feature directing debut… and with his first three features, he delivered three of the coolest action movies ever made: Action Jackson, I Come in Peace (a.k.a. Dark Angel), and Stone Cold. We’re big fans of all of those films here at JoBlo, and when it comes to Stone Cold, Chris Bumbray has written a “Best Movie You Never Saw” article and video on the film and John Fallon has put it in the “Arrow Recommends” spotlight. Today, we have some good Stone Cold news to celebrate, as Kino Lorber – the company that gave the film a special edition...

Yes, That's Brian Bosworth In The Dr. Pepper Commercials — His Character Explained
Image
College football fans have undoubtedly seen, if not religiously follow, Dr. Pepper's Fansville commercials, featuring familiar faces like Brian Bosworth. The soda company has created a whole new world just to get thirsty football fans to buy their soda. The commercials center around a fictional town, called Fansville, USA, which looks suspiciously like Dr. Pepper's in Texas. But, make no mistake, Fansville is entirely made up, and serves as a hilarious parody of the college football industry.

Meant to capitalize on Name, Image, Likeness, (Nil) laws, each ad features a college football player. But, it's not just current ballplayers living in Fansville, as the ad campaign also features football legend, Brian "the Boz" Bosworth. Bosworth was an all-American Sooner at the University of Oklahoma from 1984-1986, and a two-time winner of the Dick Butkus Award. The linebacker went on the play three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before an injury ended his athletic career.

Wtf Happened to Passenger 57?
Image
You have three seconds to name Wesley Snipes’ best ‘90s action movie: Go! As the numbers tally, only six options remain: New Jack City, Passenger 57, Boiling Point, Rising Sun, Demolition Man, and Blade. If we’re talking crime-action, New Jack City reigns supreme. Horror-Action? Blade all damn day. Sci-Fi Action? Demolition Man is too silly to miss. But if we’re simply counting hyper-violent, hard-boiled action fare – it’s hard to elevate above Passenger 57 – a lean, mean, bullet-laced blitzkrieg of thrilling throwback action made in the wake of Die Hard. In the film, Snipes portrays John Cutter, a badass airport security expert who finds himself in a hijacked airliner overrun by Charles “The Rane of Terror” Rane and his undercover henchmen.

Despite overtly adopting the Die Hard formula of isolating a grumpy, charismatic hero in a single location and pitting them against a troupe of gun-toting terrorists, Passenger 57...

Dr. Pepper Fansville Cast: Every Actor Who's Appeared In The Commercials
Image
Dr. Pepper Fansville features a star-studded cast with notable celebrity cameos, from actors to athletes, in over-the-top commercials. The ensemble cast brings to life the exaggerated town of Fansville, showcasing a mix of stereotypical high school drama characters. Dr. Pepper branding is prominent in the commercials, but the talented cast members deliver funny performances that keep viewers entertained.

Dr. Pepper Fansville is an episodic series of commercials for the soft drink brand in which several notable actors and athletes have made funny appearances. The series first began in 2018 and ran up through 2022, starting with the introduction of the fictional town "Fansville", a generic town where generic fans of the generic local team "State" root against their arch nemesis "Tech". The citizens of Fansville often get into exaggerated dilemmas reminiscent of those from soap operas, though with the solution always revolving around Dr. Pepper.

The Fansville commercials succeed not just with a bunch of celebrity cameos,...

‘God Is a Bullet’ Review: Nick Cassavetes Delivers a Blood-Soaked Highway to Hell
Image
Adapted from the author’s 1999 debut novel, “God Is A Bullet” is the first screen translation of a work by one Boston Teran, a prolific but pseudononymous scribe of popular page-turners. Those tomes have been well-received by thriller fans, though others have speculated they might be a genre put-on penned by possibly more than one well-known literary figure. Nick Cassavetes’ slick adaptation certainly maintains the book’s mix of lurid incident and pontificating pretentiousness — albeit without the kind of intensity that might have made this far-fetched story credible, or the atmospheric style that might’ve pulled it off as a fevered nightmare à la David Lynch instead.

These 156 minutes, with cop Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and escaped captive Maika Monroe pursuing the cult of devil-worshipping scumbags who’ve kidnapped his daughter, are not exactly dull. But they are rather ludicrous, without being much fun. It’s hard not to imagine this overlong,...

Fright Night Part 2 (1988) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
This episode of The Black Sheep was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Joseph Wilson, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

With all due respect to the vampire western Near Dark and the coolness of The Lost Boys, my favorite ’80s vampire flick is pretty easily Fright Night (watch it Here). It has a way about it that is just unmatched. It’s able to mix the ’80s setting, think Jerry in the club hypnotizing Amy, with both a modern and classic feel. Its almost the evolutionary step of what Hammer films would have turned into had they not folded. Its certainly beloved enough with it’s own documentary and a sequel, remake, and sequel to that remake. That’s what I wanted to talk about today. While Near Dark got no sequel, probably for the best, and The Lost Boys got multiple awful sequels,...

The sheriff in the Dr Pepper Fansville commercials is Brian Bosworth Not Kurt Russell
The Dr. Pepper Fansville commercials feature the former Oklahoma linebacker Brian Bosworth as sheriff, and not the actor Kurt Russell. Many fans mistook the sheriff in the ad for actor Kurt Russell, known for roles in The Hateful Eight, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, The Fate of the Furious, and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. I only now realized that the sheriff in those Dr. Pepper commercials is Not Kurt Russell...

Kendrick Cross on Playing His 'Ambitions' Character: "Suddenly It Was Perfect"
Ambitions premieres Tuesday, June 18 at 10 p.m. Et on Own. Kendrick Cross stars as Titus Hughes, a passionate attorney and dedicated husband to Amara (Essence Atkins). Titus has accepted the challenge of being in-house counsel for a big pharma company run by Hunter Purifoy (Brian Bosworth) to fight a class action suit brought by the powerful Carlisle family.

Cross explained how he eased into the role when We Love Soaps visited the Ambitions set in April.

"Initially, when I first got the audition all they gave me was the scene," he said. "I didn’t know the backstory or anything else. I developed that character. When I got on set, I had eleven different people telling me 'no, he's this" or “no, he’s that.' I was a little confused for the first two episodes."

Cross decided to trust his instincts on the character.

"Ultimately, I said, 'I’m...

What Men Want Review
Taraji P. Henson stars as a hard-working, ball-breaking sports agent struggling to be heard in a male dominated industry in Adam Shankman’s new comedy What Men Want. Loosely based on the 2000 film What Women Want which starred Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, the film is the latest instalment in the current trend for gender switch comedies which have so far failed to set the box office alight.

Ali Davis (Henson) finds that she is constantly being frozen out by her male colleagues and objectionable sexist boss Nick (Brian Bosworth). When she is passed up for a well-deserved promotion, Ali begins to wonder what else is to be done to succeed in an industry which will never allow her to grow. After a wild night out for her best friend’s bachelorette party, Ali gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts after drinking a mysterious potion concocted by a...

‘What Men Want’ Review: Toothless Retread Flips the Genders but Not the Script
Taraji P. Henson at an event for Larry Crowne (2011)
Taraji P. Henson powers through the comic clichés of What Men Want like a supernova engine that could. She’s a hot-wired riot, but her movie stalls almost as soon as it starts. It’s a gender flip on What Women Want, the nearly two-decades-old Nancy Meyers rom-com in which Mel Gibson (before he was revealed to be a raging bigot) played a piggish Chicago ad exec suddenly able to hear what women are thinking — which is nothing positive about him. In this inverted update, Henson plays Ali Davis, a...

She plays Ali Davis, a successful sports agent who’s constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When she is passed up for a well-deserved promotion, she questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world… until she gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts. With her newfound power, Ali looks to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar, but the lengths she has to go to will put her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.

Adam Shankman directs, and Richard Roundtree,...

Tajiri P. Henson Can Read Men's Minds in Trailer For What Men Want
The first trailer for Tajiri P. Henson's What Men Want has arrived, and all I can say is I hope this gender-bent reboot is better than the original which starred Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.

Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is a successful sports agent who’s constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When Ali is passed up for a well-deserved promotion, she questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world… until she gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts! With her newfound power, Ali looks to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar, but the lengths she has to go to will put her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.

First Look at Taraji P. Henson in 'What Men Want'
Taraji P. Henson in What Men Want (2019)
Taraji P. Henson shows off her funny side in the first trailer for comedy 'What Men Want.'

The movie is a gender-reversed take on the 2000 hit 'What Women Want,' which starred Mel Gibson and centered on a chauvinistic executive who gains the ability to hear what women are really thinking.

In the upcoming movie, Henson plays a successful sports agent who is passed up for a well-deserved promotion and questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man's world.

After taking a "magic potion," she gains the ability to hear men's thoughts and uses her newfound power to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar. But the lengths to which she resorts puts her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.

Henson is perhaps best known for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Cookie Lyon in FOX drama "Empire" and starred in 2016 box-office hit 'Hidden Figures.'

Directed by Adam Shankman ('Hairspray'), the cast also includes Tracy Morgan, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Phoebe Robinson, Max Greenfield, Jason Jones, Brian Bosworth, Chris Witaske, and Erykah Badu.

'What Men Want' is set for release in U.S. theaters on Jan. 11, 2019.

Ghostbusters (1984)
What Men Want Trailer Puts a Gender-Spin on Mel Gibson's Classic
Ghostbusters (1984)
First Ghostbusters. Then Ocean's 8. Now, we get What Men Want, a remake of the Mel Gibson comedy classic What Women Want, which puts a gender-swapped spin on the idea. Taraji P. Henson takes over the lead role, and if we're to believe the first trailer, it will be hilarious.

Paramount Pictures obviously knows what men want. They want a romantic comedy headed-up by Taraji P. Henson. Girls Trip producers Will Packer and James Lopez are behind this upcoming winter release, and they had a big hit on their hands with that previous comedy. So they obviously know what men want too. Do we have to say it any louder? They want more Taraji P. Henson!

Adam Shankman directs What Men Want. He's perhaps best known for reviving John Waters' cult classic Hairspray as a big screen musical. The original What Women Want was one of Mel Gibson's last great films.

Taraji P. Henson Cracks the Boys' Club in What Men Want Trailer
Taraji P. Henson at an event for Larry Crowne (2011)
"This is not a curse. This is a gift." So says Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) in the trailer for Paramount Pictures' What Men Want, released just moments ago. After being passed over for a promotion at her sports agency, and being told to "stay in your lane," Ali visits a psychic and is given a mystical tea that enables her to actually hear men's thoughts. With her newfound abilities, Ali has an advantage over her colleagues and infiltrates their boys' club at work. All the while, she works overtime to sign the next NBA superstar. Of course, Ali's powers have their downsides, as they test her friendships and a possible...

‘What Men Want’ Trailer: Taraji P. Henson Takes A Trip To The Male Mind
Taraji P. Henson and Tracy Morgan in What Men Want (2019)
Looking into the minds of men could provide enough darkness for any number of horror films, but Adam Shankman’s What Men Want starring Taraji P. Henson goes for the laughs.

In this remake of Nancy Meyers’ 2000 romantic comedy What Women Want, Henson takes the Mel Gibson role as Ali Davis, a successful sports agent who’s constantly boxed out by her male colleagues.

The official summary: When Ali is passed up for a well-deserved promotion, she questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world… until she gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts. With her newfound power, Ali looks to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar, but the lengths she has to go to will put her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.

Mike Tyson! Steven Seagal! China Salesman!
What's this? A Chinese action film featuring the talents of former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson and human oddity Steven Seagal? You betcha! Tan Bing's China Salesman not only features the least action-y title for an action movie ever - about the only thing that could ever beat it would be a Jean Claude Van Damme / Brian Bosworth star vehicle titled Soft Pillow - hits Chinese screens this summer. The story appears to revolve around the increasing Chinese presence in continental Africa, where Chinese interests have been buying up massive infrastructure projects for some time now, with the added value of Tyson punching people and Seagal trying not to look fat. Check out the first trailer below. I've gotta go write a script for Soft...

Blu-ray Review: Stone Cold – Olive Films
Olive Films is killing it this year. So many bucket list Blu-ray releases in such a short amount of time. My exposure to Olive prior to a few months ago was minimal. I had a few Blu-ray discs I had purchased, mostly their horror output, and for the most part I have been satisfied with what I have seen. There have been one or two missteps along the way, but mostly what they release is pretty acceptable. This time Olive have released another personal favorite from adolescence, in Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth.

The Movie:

Though sometimes my memory confuses Stone Cold with Charlie Sheen’s similar film Beyond The Law, it remains a favorite of mine from childhood. Some thought Stone Cold would skyrocket Brian Bosworth towards action film legend. While that didn’t exactly happen, it still turned out to be memorable Eighties action fare. Brian Bosworth is...

Box Office Predictions: 'Divergent's 'Insurgent' Will Take Down Penn's 'Gunman' with Ease
The Divergent Series: Insurgent will outperform the original film, even though that one was terrible. I liked this a lot more, so it should be a lively podcast on Friday as Brad gets mad. I'm going with $18k per theater, $68.4 million, or about a 30 percent jump. That's aggressive, but slotting this against the Ncaa Tournament was pure genius. The Gunman looks D.O.A., even more so than Run All Night. The trailers could not look any worse, Sean Penn creeping around in the shadows with a gun. I'm putting it at $8.4 million, but even that might be kind. Like that scene in The Big Lebowski, there's just no bottom here. Do You Believec Not really, no. Well, okay, I believe in the sense that with only 1,300 theaters it's punching well above its weight. As per normal, these religious titles are basically impossible to predict as they rely on actual human marketing.

Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1990′s
Villains have always been and will always be some of the most fascinating and memorable characters in the world of genre film. Here we will take a look at the greatest villains of cinema from the 1990’s.

The criteria for this article is the same as in my previous articles Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1970’s and Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1980’s: the villains must be from live-action films-no animated features-and must pose some type of direct of indirect lethal threat. The villains can either be individuals or small groups that act as one unit.

The villains must be human or human in appearance. Also, individuals that are the central protagonists/antiheroes of their respective films were excluded.

Brad Dourif as The Gemini Killer in The Exorcist III (William Peter Blatty, 1990): Veteran actor Dourif is intense and unforgettable as an executed murderer inhabiting someone else’s body in...

Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas Join ‘Expendables 3′
Antonio Banderas at an event for The Skin I Live In (2011)
I’ve confirmed that Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas have joined The Expendables 3, the Millennium Entertainment pic that already picked up Harrison Ford to add to the cast that has begun to resemble the Old Timers Day game held annually at Yankee Stadium. Sylvester Stallone continues to bring in aging action muscle for the franchise he hatched back in 2010. Why Stallone and Millennium continue to ignore Jeff Speakman and Brian Bosworth is beyond me, and they seem to be about the only action heroes who haven’t joined the beefcake brigade. Is Sly saving them for a fourth movie?...
