Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, the creators of Modern Family, made a deliberate creative choice that made their sitcom stand out in a genre that was populated by hits like Everybody Loves Raymond. So, what was the difference between them? The children in the hit 1996 sitcom were just props who existed to remind viewers that the main characters were parents. But Modern Family decided to treat the children like characters who are central to the storytelling.
When Modern Family arrived in 2009, the family sitcom genre had almost vanished from the TV landscape. That genre had been replaced with titles that were comedy but had a bend of cynicism. So, creators like Levitan and Lloyd thought of a way that would bring the family sitcom genre back and also help it stand out in a landscape where it had lost its place. Their decision was clearly right because Modern Family was a hit,...

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for Happy Gilmore 2
Modern Family star Julie Bowen thought she wouldn’t be a part of Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 because she thought that Sandler would want to replace her in the sequel, which aired almost 30 years after the original.
Starring alongside Adam Sandler and portraying the role of her love interest, Virginia Venit, Julie Bown became a classic character like Happy Gilmore. However, Julie Bowen couldn’t believe it when she was called to reprise her role almost 30 years after Happy Gilmore in Happy Gilmore 2.
She had earlier told The Hollywood Reporter that she had no idea about potentially returning to the role since she assumed Adam Sandler’s character would have moved on.
I thought, ‘Well, I won’t be in it.’ And that was Ok — it was like Virginia Venit, it’s been 30 years, he’s got a hottie. He’s...

Happy Gilmore 2 hit Netflix last week, and although the film has been a major hit for the streamer in the viewership column, it makes some controversial decisions with the story. Easily the most talked-about plot point is the death of Virginia (Julie Bowen), which happens between films but is shown early in the sequel. Virginia died after being hit with a golf ball via an errant shot from Happy (Adam Sandler).
Sandler recently caught up with The Hollywood Reporter about the decision to kill Bowen’s Virginia. Before going into details about Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler praised Bowen’s work as a professional, “We love Julie. She’s just a great vibe and a great person. We love working with her, and we did the first one and Hubie Halloween.” Sandler then explained the decision to kill Virginia, saying, “We just knew we needed Happy to have to overcome something in this story.

While Happy Gilmore 2’s launch blew up Netflix, setting a record for the streamer’s biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time, some fans were horrified by one of the sequel’s shockingly depressing storylines. After all the hubbub about Adam Sandler asking back Julie Bowen rather than replacing her with a hot, young star like Sydney Sweeney, the film wasted little time before killing the character, the victim of one of Happy’s errant power drives.

Adam Sandler can do very little wrong when it comes to his run of Netflix movies, as even if not everyone likes them, millions still tune in to watch them. His long-awaited return as Happy Gilmore, in the imaginatively titled Happy Gilmore 2, is no exception to the rule. With a mixed set of reviews from critics, and only slightly better reaction from audiences, Sandler has still been breaking records.
Happy Gilmore 2 is certainly not one of the most disastrous Adam Sandler movies to land on Netflix in the last several years, and managed to scrape a fresh rating from the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (on 64% at the time of writing). Reports have been emerging that Andy Byron is planning to sue Coldplay and Chris Martin over the viral video that kicked off a scandal. While there haven’t been any reports about an actual lawsuit filed in court, multiple outlets suggest that it is a strong possibility. The recent post from @PopCrave suggests that he is suing the band, but the claim has yet to be verified.

It was Page Six that first reported the possibility of a lawsuit from former Astronomer CEO, Byron. Insiders told the outlet that Byron blamed Coldplay and its frontman, Chris Martin, for creating a public drama after the latter suggested that he might be “having an affair.”
According to legal experts, Byron can claim defamation against Coldplay and the event organizer.

ABC will take Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air this week as the late-night TV show gets a midsummer break. The news comes during an uncertain time in the genre, but there could be good news on the horizon as we near the return of Jimmy Kimmel.
The world of late-night TV is still reeling from news of The Late Show's cancellation. Hosts have banded together in support of Stephen Colbert, including Jimmy Kimmel. The ABC host has called out CBS and President Donald Trump over what he sees as a politically motivated decision.
But we haven't been able to hear from Kimmel on camera as the comedian remains on summer vacation. In his place, a rotating cast of celebrities has filled in as guest hosts during Kimmel's annual hiatus.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in “Happy Gilmore 2,” currently streaming on Netflix.
“Happy Gilmore” fans got quite the shock when Adam Sandler’s long-awaited sequel finally hit Netflix over the weekend. Three minutes into the movie, Julie Bowen’s beloved Virginia Venit (who is married and shares five children with Sandler’s Happy) is killed off during a freak accident. Happy has a bad shot during a golf tournament and the ball unexpectedly hits and kills Virginia, whose death then drives the sequel’s plot. Fans expressed outrage on social media over the twist during “Happy Gilmore 2’s” opening streaming weekend on Netflix.

It’s been almost 30 years since Happy Gilmore teed off, and the sequel doesn’t waste time getting into the swing of things. It’s got the laughs, the throwbacks, and just enough blink-and-you’ll-miss-it details to keep diehard fans on their toes. Adam Sandler’s back as the unfiltered golf legend, now dealing with fatherhood and a second shot at glory – still loud, still angry, still hilarious. But the real gold? It’s in the background.
Quick nods to the original, surprise cameos, inside jokes, and a few personal touches that connect straight to Sandler’s off-screen life. You probably missed a few. Most people did. Here are ten Easter eggs that flew under the radar – even for the fans who thought they knew it all.

Nearly 30 years after the original “Happy Gilmore,” its sequel hit Netflix this weekend, and among the many cameos in it, one is hitting fans directly in the heart: Cameron Boyce.
Boyce played Sandler’s son in the “Grown Ups” films, and sadly, the actor died in 2019 at the age of 20. In 2020, Sandler included an homage to Boyce at the end of his film “Hubie Halloween,” and in “Happy Gilmore 2,” he made sure his onscreen son was included once again.
Early in the film, Happy heads to a local golf course to start shaking off the rust and practice for an upcoming tournament. As he approaches the stand to check in, the employees can be seen watching an episode of “Jessie,” the Disney Channel series where Boyce rose to fame. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but the credits of “Happy Gilmore 2” confirm the footage from Disney.

28 years after the release of Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler is back with his sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. Set 29 years after Happy Gilmore won his first Tour Championship, he now returns to play golf for his daughter’s ballet school.
Just like the first film, the sequel is full of Sandler’s blend of potty‑mouth wit, underdog grit, and heartfelt redemption. The sequel brings back the beloved golf icon nearly three decades after the original, with nostalgic callbacks, the classic soundtrack, and a plot that finds Happy mentoring the next generation while still throwing fastballs (or golf tees) at anyone who gets in his way.
Reuniting Sandler with several of the original stars like Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Blake Clark, and Christopher McDonald, the film also stars several fresh faces like Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and his daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler. Modern Family on Hulu tops the list when it comes to a blend of tight writing, ensemble brilliance, and emotional nuance. In an interview (via The Paley Center for Media), creator Steven Levitan talked about one scene in Season 3 that had absolute honesty and an emotional resemblance. Even actor Ty Burrell shared his thoughts on that particular scene, saying,
It’s a lot of pressure watching a show like that and realizing I’m never going to be that good of a parent. I’m basically just gonna show when, when my daughter loses her virg*nity, I’m just going to show her the episode.
The actor who portrays Phil Dunphy further said that,

Happy Gilmore 2 Cast Net Worth: Adam Sandler to Bad Bunny, Who’s the Richest of Them All? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
29 years later, Adam Sandler is back as Happy in the sequel to 1996’s Happy Gilmore 2. In this movie, Happy is a decorated retired golfer after winning his first Tour Championship, who lives with his four sons and a daughter. However, when things get tough, he gets lured back into golf. But this time, he is dedicated and motivated to revive the sport. While the Og movie became a cult classic over the years despite all the mixed reviews from critics, the sequel is somewhat a good watch if you want something lighthearted, comedic, and nostalgic.
However, the Netflix movie also received mixed reviews on X (previously known as Twitter), as many viewers didn’t like how the makers played with nostalgia and recycled jokes. But the film featured a stellar cast,...

To the surprise of many, Saturday Night Live alum (and frequent Adam Sandler collaborator) Rob Schneider appeared as a special cameo in Happy Gilmore 2; however, his role in the film may not be what fans expected. The new Netflix comedy, which serves as a sequel to the beloved 1996 film, follows Sandler's Happy as he comes out of golf retirement to fund his daughter's ballet lessons.
As is the case with many modern Sandler films, Happy Gilmore 2 is a cameo-filled affair. Part of this expansive cast includes several former SNL co-stars who worked on the hit sketch comedy show with Adam Sandler, leading some to wonder if someone like Rob Schneider could appear.
Happy Gilmore 2 is now streaming on Netflix, picking up the franchise's underdog story nearly 30 years after the first film. The movie, directed by Workaholics creator Kyle Newacheck, stars Sandler alongside returning stars Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald.

Happy Gilmore 2 officially revealed that Happy has a new caddie, replacing Allen Covert's Otto from the first movie. The sequel to Adam Sandler's 1996 film brought back many returning characters to deliver nostalgia to longtime fans. Aside from Sandler, who is leading the charge as the titular character in the Netflix movie, the long list of Happy Gilmore 2's cast includes Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Ben Stiller as Hal L., and Dennis Dugan as Doug Thompson. However, one prominent absence is Allen Covert as Otto.
In Happy Gilmore, Otto is a homeless man who eventually becomes Happy's best friend and caddie on the tour. A caddie accompanies a golfer and provides practical support and strategic guidance. Otto was instrumental in helping Happy push through with the tour with his comedic relief and hilarious banter with Sandler's character. This is why it's...

Adam Sandler's dream in Happy Gilmore 2 was to include Tiger Woods, but sadly, it didn't happen. The highly anticipated sequel to 1996's Happy Gilmore has finally been released on Netflix, catching up with Sandler's titular character in the present day. Happy Gilmore 2 highlights a star-studded cast of characters, bringing together several golf legends in special cameos, such as Scottie Scheffler, Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIlroy, and Tony Finau. However, one notable absence is the iconic Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods is perhaps a member of golf's Mount Rushmore, with him being widely regarded as the greatest golfer in history. His absence in Happy Gilmore 2 is clearly a missed opportunity, but there are several factors why the expert golfer didn't appear.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Happy Gilmore 2
The long-awaited sequel to Adam Sandler's cult classic sports comedy Happy Gilmore 2 begins with a shocking death that might leave some viewers confused, but it actually makes total sense within the universe of Happy Gilmore. Set 30 years after the events of the original movie, Happy Gilmore 2 sees Happy return to golf to support his children after his life falls apart.
Riding high at the tail end of an all-time great golf career, an errant drive from Happy in 2014 hits his wife Virginia in the head and kills her. Devastated, Happy attempts to numb the pain with alcohol, and his life falls apart over the next decade. Virginia's death sets a dark tone for what was supposed to be a goofy comedy, but it actually makes sense.

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ had a reported budget of around $30-40 million, and it looks like the extensive cast was paid handsomely for their contributions to the sequel.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for Happy Gilmore 2.
Bad Bunny’s acting portfolio only seems to be growing with time, playing the role of Oscar Mejías in Happy Gilmore 2. While the film famously had a lot of cameos from celebrities, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio’s character was not a small one. The actor stayed by Adam Sandler’s side throughout the film, playing the role of his busboy-turned-caddy.
The appearance was quite surprising for fans, considering how different he is in real life compared to the film. While his entire performance as Oscar can be described like this, there is one specific scene that had fans gaping.

Adam Sandler may be the king of slapstick comedy, but when it comes to his daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, he’s all heart, and Happy Gilmore 2 is the latest proof of that. The Netflix sequel to the 1996 cult favorite doesn’t just bring back golf clubs and chaos; it brings family center stage, with Sadie and Sunny stepping into bigger on-screen roles than ever before. Sandler told E! News, reflecting on the surreal joy of watching his daughters perform:

It’s been nearly 30 years since we’ve seen Happy (Adam Sandler), but your favorite menace on the green has returned, ready to show off his special swing for a new generation.

In addition to Sandler, the entire creative team from the first movie returns for the sequel.
It’s been nearly 30 years since we’ve seen Happy (Adam Sandler), but your favorite menace on the green has returned, ready to show off his special swing for a new generation.
Sandler isn’t the only original alum from the first movie to play another 18 holes. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald both return as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin. There’s some new blood on the course with newcomers Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, Travis Kelce, and plenty more fresh faces.

Taylor Swift is showing her support for Travis Kelce’s latest acting endeavor.
The “Fortnight” singer took to her Instagram Story to commemorate the release of Happy Gilmore 2, which the NFL player makes a cameo in as a waiter. There, she shared a photo of Adam Sandler portraying the beloved titular character and rated the film a 13/10.
“Happy Gilmore 2 had me cackling and cheering the whole movie!” the 14-time Grammy award winner wrote. “An absolute must watch, 13/10, go watch it on @netflix as soon as humanly possible.”
Swift included a honey emoji at the end of the post, which seemingly referenced a moment in the film where Kelce is shirtless and has honey all over himself. Her post comes a day after Kelce shared a string of photos of the couple online, notably making their relationship Instagram official.

A Comedy Classic Returns Back in 1996, Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore became an instant comedy classic. The film told the story of a short‑tempered hockey player who trades the ice for the golf course after his grandmother’s house is repossessed by the IRS. Using his unorthodox skills and unshakable determination, Happy takes on the world of professional golf, hoping to earn enough money to save his grandmother’s home. Its mix of outrageous humor, unforgettable one‑liners, and heartfelt moments helped cement Happy Gilmore as one of Sandler’s most beloved films. “Alright, it’s time to watch Happy Gilmore 2. Hey, there’s Happy, it’s great to see him again. Look he’s doing his classic Happy Gilmore swin– Wait, what’s happening? Oh dear God, no!”
This is how we imagine most people processed the opening minutes of Adam Sandler’s much-anticipated sequel. It's not a spoiler exactly, since it happens at the three-minute mark, but Netflix’s marketing has been pretty cagey about the fact that the whole movie is predicated on a tragedy.
In the film’s opening montage, (spoilers for the very beginning of the movie?), we learn that Happy has married Virginia, Julie Bowen’s character from the original. They have a bunch of kids and seem to be living happily ever after — until Happy inadvertently kills her during a game with his ultra-powerful drive, that is.

An Adam Sandler film featuring a cameo from your boyfriend and Bad Bunny? I’d be loving it too, Taylor! On Friday, Taylor Swift shared an Instagram Story celebrating the release of Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix, encouraging her fans to tap in and watch it Asap.

Belated sequel to the 1996 comedy is unlikely to convert newcomers but there’s more than enough to entertain its cult fanbase
Happy Gilmore 2, the much-anticipated follow-up to the canonical sports comedy that dominated pop culture at the turn of the century, opens with Adam Sandler’s irascible hero catching viewers up on the past 29 years.
After humiliating tour nemesis Shooter McGavin (an on-form Christopher McDonald) in the big tournament and riding off into the sunset with the girl, they marry and have five children as Happy’s prosperity continues unbidden. He considers stepping back from the game as his years and wealth stack up, but keeps going at the encouragement of his dear Virginia (Julie Bowen). But when she’s removed from the picture his world is even more upended than it was when we met him as an orphan in 1996.

Spoiler Alert !!!Major spoilers for Happy Gilmore 2
Happy Gilmore 2 falls in the same pothole that doomed other comeback sequels by playing on the same beats that made Happy Gilmore work. Considering comeback sequels, especially comedies, are often subject to the risk of rehashing the original trope, and unfortunately, Happy Gilmore 2 is akin to the likes of Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2 in that department.
The long-awaited Sequel to Adam Sandler‘s 1997 release repeats the original’s underdog trope without bringing anything fresh to the table, and its star-studded cast does little to elevate the experience.
Moreover, the sequel heavily undermines Julie Bowen‘s legacy in the original in the first few minutes by killing off Virginia Venit in a shocking manner, setting Sandler’s titular character on a narrative path similar to the first one.
